Disney+ UK is about more than Marvel and Star Wars stuff. Here’s a bunch of underappreciated films on the service.

Many of us subscribed to Disney+ to always have a bunch of Disney productions at hand.. You know, in case I simply need to watch The Lion King at 2am and can’t find my DVD in the dark.

But the streaming service offers so much more than just the well known favourites. There’s a whole sea of incredible films to discover – but with such extensive libraries, they can be hard to find. We’ve done our best to highlight 30 underrated films that you should give a chance to. This’ll be updated over time, too.

The final installment of the Netflix tentpole series will arrive in three parts at the end of this year. Season 5 officially wrapped production December 2024 after it had reached the halfway point in July. Production on the final season kicked off in January 2024.

The fifth and final season of the show has been in the works ever since Part 2 of Season 4 arrived in July 2022, with the writers room for the next season opening August that year. A pandemic delaying Season 4’s arrival and then dual Hollywood strikes pushed Season 5 further than originally planned.

Nothing destroys a film's momentum quite like bombing at the box office. While poorly received movies can still be successful should they gross a lot of money, even the most critically acclaimed film is considered a failure if it fails to make its money back upon release. Walt Disney's entertainment juggernaut is all too familiar with financially destitute films, as not every picture can be a winner.

Exclusive: Bestselling author Aaron Blabey has signed an eight-figure deal with Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group for two new series.

The first, called Game of Pets, will debut in the fall of 2026. Macmillan and Foundation Media Partners plan to develop and produce it as a feature film franchise.

Blabey’s The Bad Guys series and Thelma The Unicorn were adapted for film by, respectively, DreamWorks Animation and Netflix. Blabey served as executive producer on both.

Universal Pictures and Dwa are releasing The Bad Guys 2, a sequel to the $250 million-grossing 2022 hit, later this year. It follows a crackerjack criminal crew of animal outlaws, struggling to find acceptance in their newly minted lives as Good Guys, who are pulled out of retirement and forced to do one last job. Netflix aired animated prequel The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday Christmas special in 2023.

Animated musical Thelma The Unicorn debuted on the streamer last May.

When I saw the trailer for Skeleton Crew, my first thought when I saw the sprawling suburban environment was that this was not the Star Wars I know and love. In fact, the images drew an immediate link to Madeleine L'Engle's novel A Wrinkle in Time. Within that franchise, there is a city without individuality or creativity that bears some resemblance to Wim's neighborhood. Although the show looked fun, I wondered whether the personality of Star Wars could survive in such a place.

I figured the purpose of this safe, modern town was to draw contrast to the grungy, pirate-infested worlds the children would encounter later. Of course, this is partially true. However, upon viewing the first episode, I was struck by how well the Star Wars aesthetic was still able to thrive within more sterile environments.

Netflix has officially announced that the fifth and final season of Stranger Things will premiere in 2025.

This confirmation was made on November 6, 2024, during the annual Stranger Things Day commemorating the in-universe date when Will Byers vanished into the Upside Down.

In celebration of this announcement, Netflix released a teaser video unveiling the titles of the upcoming season’s eight episodes: The Crawl, The Vanishing of…, The Turnbow Trap, Sorcerer, Shock Jock, Escape From Camazotz, The Bridge, and The Rightside Up.

Notably, the second episode’s title, The Vanishing of…, is partially redacted, evoking the series’ inaugural episode, The Vanishing of Will Byers.

This has led to speculation about which character might disappear in the final season.

The final episode, titled The Rightside Up, appears to be a deliberate inversion of the Season 1 finale, The Upside Down, suggesting a potential resolution to the series’ central conflict.

In the fall of 1987, one last adventure begins.

The fifth and final season of “Stranger Things” will debut in 2025, Netflix announced on Wednesday. To celebrate Nov. 6, 1983, a.k.a. “Stranger Things Day” — the day Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) was abducted into the Upside Down — the streamer also released a video revealing the titles for the final eight episodes, which will conclude the supernatural story of Hawkins, Indiana.

The episode titles are “The Crawl,” “The Vanishing of…,” “The Turnbow Trap,” “Sorcerer,” “Shock Jock,” “Escape From Camazotz,” “The Bridge,” and “The Rightside Up.”

Some of these titles allude to earlier episodes: “The Vanishing of…” — revealed with the name fully obscured — invokes the series premiere “The Vanishing of Will Byers.” Fans online have already speculated that the new abductee could be Holly Wheeler, the younger sister of Mike (Finn Wolfhard) who was reportedly recast with “Evil Dead Rise” actor Nell Fisher, but Netflix has not officially confirmed.

A Wrinkle in Time, Madeleine L’Engle’s beloved and acclaimed children’s book classic, is being developed as a stage musical, producers announced today.

The adaptation will feature music and lyrics by Obie Award-winning composer Heather Christian (Oratorio for Living Things), book by Lauren Yee (Cambodian Rock Band) and direction by two-time Obie Award winner Lee Sunday Evans (Dance Nation).

Dates for productions, as well as additional creative team members, will be announced in 2023.

Although seven current play adaptions of Wrinkle are available for license, in addition to television and film adaptations, the new project will mark the first musical version of the novel and the first Broadway production of any kind.

The project has been shepherded by Charlotte Jones Voiklis, L’Engle’s granddaughter and director of her literary estate. She’ll produce along with Diana Dimenna and Plate Spinner Productions, and Aaron Glick.

The Oscar-nominated filmmaker will write, direct and produce the feature adaptation of Isabel Wilkerson’s critically-acclaimed novel “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.”

The film adaptation, titled “Caste,” will use a multiple-story structure to examine the “unspoken system that has shaped America and chronicles how our lives today are defined by a hierarchy of human divisions dating back generations.” The novel, published in August 2020 by Pulitzer Prize winner Wilkerson, was a New York Times best-seller and an Oprah’s Book Club selection.

Only the faintest glimmers of genuine, earned emotion pierce through the layers of intense calculation that encumber Ava DuVernay's A Wrinkle in Time. Disney's lavish adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's fantastical 1962 book (there were four sequels) about a girl's journey through multiple dimensions to find her long-missing father may provide enough distractions to keep kids in the lowest double-digits age range interested. Ava DuVernay's adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time is a colossal disappointment. The classic science fiction novel by Madeleine L'Engle has been turned into a sappy melodrama; utterly devoid of mystery or wonder. DuVernay's approach to the story is to emphasize its outcast element. The result is a fire hose of gushing positive reinforcement for the bullied, angst ridden protagonist. It reminded me of Al Franken's famous SNL skit, "Daily Affirmations with Stuart Smalley"; where he sits in front of a mirror saying, "You're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it, people like me". A Wrinkle in Time is essentially two hours of that, with Oprah Winfrey and special effects.

The world premiere of A Wrinkle in Time sprinkled a little magic on Hollywood on Monday night, with those in attendance quickly taking to social media to share their thoughts about the Ava DuVernay–directed film.

The El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles hosted the first public screening of the Disney fantasy epic, an adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's beloved 1962 novel.

The film stars Storm Reid as middle schooler Meg Murry, who must go on a mission to find her missing father (Chris Pine). Meg gets help from three celestial beings named Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey), Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon) and Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling).

Walt Disney Studios Canada has released a third trailer for A Wrinkle in Time, which features the new song "Scars to Your Beautiful" by popular Canadian singer Alessia Cara, which will be featured on A Wrinkle in Time soundtrack. This trailer kicks off with new footage of lead character Meg Murry, played by Storm Reid, who is told by Principal Jenkins (Andre Holland) that she can't keep using her father Dr. Alex Murry's (Chris Pine) disappearance as an excuse to act out. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and Nissan North America are launching a nationwide search for the next visionary filmmaker in celebration of the upcoming release of A Wrinkle in Time. The contest seeks to inspire innovative directors, especially female filmmakers, to step up and share their voice. Aspiring directors ages 18 and up must submit a 2-minute video showcasing their journey as a filmmaker. Submissions will be judged on their unique storytelling voice, their creativity and originality and their depiction of one of the most powerful lines of dialogue in the film, "Be a Warrior."

Director Ava DuVernay wrote, produced and directed her first narrative feature I Will Follow in 2010 on a budget of $50,000. As if you didn't already think Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey and Mindy Kaling were ethereal beings, they had to go ahead and straight up stun in Time.

Along with their A Wrinkle in Time co-star Storm Reid, the trio graced the cover of the magazine's latest issue in what are destined to become iconic photos. All four were photographed wearing black shirts and pink lipstick, their hair slicked back as they stared thoughtfully into the beyond.
