Why ‘The Masked Singer’ is taking a longer-than-ever break after Season 13
Image
The Masked Singer's catchphrase is "take it off," and now it's doing just that for fall 2025.

Fox's reality TV show usually produces two cycles per calendar year, but after host Nick Cannon announces the Season 13 winner on Wednesday night, viewers won't see any new episodes until January 2026. So, why is the hit series taking a longer-than-ever break?

"Among Fox’s most enduring signature shows is The Masked Singer with a truly devoted fanbase," said the network. "This juggernaut will return next year for Season 14 as it takes midseason by storm with a spectacular, super-charged new season." Per Variety, Fox is calling this "a strategic move to give ample runway for America’s favorite guessing game and allow us to creatively look at enhancing the show with the biggest names at the center of it."

The Masked Singer has debuted a new season in September every year since 2019, with its second installment.

Patti Labelle Says Elton John Never Returned Her Tupperware
Image
Patti Labelle and Elton John have quite a history together. He first backed her on piano when he was with Bluesology, years before he was “Elton John,” and the two later recorded together in the ‘00s. Yet, when recently asked what the first story that comes to mind when she hears John’s name, Labelle had a clear answer: the time he stole her Tupperware.

Labelle detailed the incident in an appearance on Sherri, explaining that it occurred when she was performing in London in the ‘60s with Bluesology as her backing band. She invited the musicians over to her place to play cards — including a young John, then still named Reginald Dwightt — and upon winning, she took “all their pounds, all their money,” not even leaving them with enough to buy food.

Liam Neeson Played A Villain In A Beloved '80s Crime Thriller Series
Image
Liam Neeson might be a household name now, but the inception of his career can be traced back to low-budget film/television titles and modest stage productions. In fact, filmmaker John Boorman noticed Neeson's potential when he was on stage for "Of Mice and Men," which led to his film debut in the 1981 Arthurian saga, "Excalibur." Sure enough, "Excalibur" opened many doors for Neeson, and he starred in a handful of projects over the years, including 1986's "The Mission."

In that film, Neeson played a Catholic missionary in 18th-century South America alongside Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons, and this small yet impactful role altered the trajectory of Neeson's acting career. You see, De Niro introduced Neeson to an American casting director while they were filming together, which allowed the latter to acquire a work visa in the U.S. and work his way up the ranks. The television role...

‘American Idol’ Season 23 premiere: Carrie Underwood’s first day highlighted by a Backstreet Boy’s son and a Platinum Ticket audition
Image
The Season 23 premiere of American Idol was all about the return of Carrie Underwood. The Season 4 champ officially took her seat on the judges' panel next to Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, 20 years after she won the reality TV singing competition in 2005. The eight-time Grammy winner replaces Katy Perry, who left the series after seven seasons as a judge. This is the eighth cycle of American Idol on ABC following the show's original 15-season run on Fox from 2002 to 2016.

The two-hour premiere aired Sunday, March 9 (8 p.m. Et/Pt) and featured auditions from New York, Los Angeles, and Nashville. As the show's only constant since the series premiere in 2002, Ryan Seacrest returned as host.

"I feel like I'm going to audition, to be honest," Carrie said as her car pulled up to Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. "I just want to do a good job." She called her own experience on...

Carrie Underwood Won Me Over in American Idol’s Season 23 Premiere — Watch the Moment That Sealed It
Image
Heading into Season 23 of American Idol, I had my reservations about Carrie Underwood joining the judges’ panel. I have nothing against her as a person, and certainly not as an artist, but I just didn’t think she’d be able to keep the show’s energy up. (Say what you will about Katy Perry, and I know she had her share of haters, but that woman did so much heavy lifting during her seven-season run.)

Then came Sunday’s premiere, during which something hit me like a Louisville Slugger. And like so many unexpected revelations, it came via the...

Don't Sleep on Netflix's 83% Rt Western Series 'Godless'
Image
Released on Netflix in November 2017, Godless is a Western drama comprised of seven episodes. Created, written, and directed by Scott Frank, the miniseries is set in 1884 and centers its story around a predominately female cast, which is unique given it takes place in the Wild West. That being said, such a component makes its narrative all the more interesting to watch. In a series that manages to stay true to what makes Westerns so compelling in the first place, it also successfully offers something new to the genre. Women were always a part of the Western narrative. Godless simply brings them center stage without making them mere prostitutes or damsels in distress.

Upon its debut, Godless was met with widely positive reviews from critics as well as audiences. With a Tomatometer score of 83% and a comparable Popcornmeter score of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, the show is considerably well liked. It was...

Ken Wydro Dies: ‘Mama, I Want To Sing’ Co-Creator & Producer Was 81
Image
Ken Wydro, who co-created, co-wrote and produced the long-running 1983 Off Broadway hit musical Mama, I Want To Sing inspired by the life of 1960s “Just One Look” singer Doris Troy, died on Tuesday, January 21, at his home in Harlem, New York. He was 81 years old.

His death was announced by theater publicist Keith Sherman. A cause of death was not immediately available.

Wydro, a producer of such Broadway productions as 1988’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone and, in 2008, a revival of David Mamet’s American Buffalo starring Cedric the Entertainer, John Leguizamo and Haley Joel Osment, will be best remembered for Mama, I Want To Sing. The long-running show made its Off Broadway debut at the historic Heckscher Theatre in 1983 and played 2,213 performances before closing in 1991.

In addition to subsequent revivals and world tours, the musical spawned two sequels and a 2011 film adaptation starring Ciara, Lynn Whitfield, Patti Labelle and Billy Zane.

In 1998, Wydro and Higginsen founded the Mama Foundation for the Arts with a mission to uplift the Black musical treasures of Gospel, jazz and R&b, and “to heal and inspire through the power of collective music-making.” Today, the Mama Foundation is an intergenerational and interracial Harlem institution.

For the Mama Foundation, Wydro co-created and directed several musicals performed in various theaters and churches in Harlem for decades.

The author of two plays, Secrets: The Untold Story Of Sigmund Freud And Carl Jung and Vice Versa, Wydro is survived by Higginsen, his wife of 44 years, and daughter Ahmaya Knoelle Higginson-Wydro.
