Image
Exclusive: Filipino film Hello, Love, Again, the sequel to the 2019 box office hit Hello, Love, Goodbye, will release in theaters across the U.S. and Canada on November 15.

Hello, Love, Goodbye was the Philippines’ highest-grossing film of all time until it was surpassed by Rewind this year after Rewind earned nearly $17 million at the global box office.

With Hello, Love, Again set to show across 200 to 250 theaters on opening, North American distributor Abramorama says that the film will have the widest North American release to date for a Filipino film.

Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards reprise their roles in the sequel, which is directed by Cathy Garcia-Sampana.

FIlm Review: The Mistress (2012) by Olivia Lamasan
Image
Celebrating the10th anniversary of John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo's partnership as a love team, and also their comeback film after their 2010 hit “Miss You Like Crazy”, “The Mistress” was one of the most commercially successful titles in the country in 2012, becoming the highest grossing non-mmff of the year while still retaining a spot on the list with the highest grossing Filipino films of all time.

Architect Jd is the sole heir of his father's company, but their relationship is not exactly ideal, with him thinking that Rico never accepted him as his son, and Rico accusing him of cowardice in the face of the crisis the family and the company faced some time ago. Seamstress Sari is the owner of a small boutique, and tries to make ends meet for her family, including her grandmother, Lina. She is also the long-time mistress of Rico, who has helped...

Lots of Filipino Movies soon to be uploaded on Netflix
Following its plan to upload more and more local content alongside the more predictable blockbusters, streaming giant Netflix is about to give us the opportunity to binge on good Filipino movies.

After choosing to stream Mikhail Red’s Academy Award-nominated “Birdshot” in March, Netflix has just announced a new list of films, including bombastic action thriller “BuyBust” by Erik Matti.

Here is the list of Filipino movies coming soon to Netflix:

“Heneral Luna” (2015) by Jerrold Tarog (Release date on Netflix: November 1)

Set during the Philippine-American war, a short-tempered Filipino general faces an enemy more formidable than the American army: his own treacherous countrymen. (IMDb)

“BuyBust” (2018) by Erik Matti (Release Date on Netflix: November 15)

Mainstream Cinema is Still Dead at the Filipino Film Critics Awards
The mainstream industry is (artistically) dead. That's what the Gawad Urian, the society of the Filipino film critics, made clear once more with their latest awards celebration. This is nothing new, since its been years since the organization nominated the big productions of the Philippines' major studios, despite the presence of good films like Olivia Lamasan's The Mistress. The question is always the same: When is the audience seeing these winners? In fact, most of the films chosen by the critics didn't have their run in the local theatres. A problem, as usual, when we talk about independent cinema in the PhilippinesHere is the complete list of winners:best Supporting Actress: Alessandra de Rossi, "Sta Nina"Best Supporting Actor: Art Acuna, "Posas"Best Documentary: "Harana" by Benito BautistaBEST...

Review: Olivia Lamasan's The Mistress
The Mistress has a plot that feels taken straight out of one of those cheap trashy novels, the ones with tacky covers promising sleazy escapism with impossible love stories set in unbelievable milieus that enunciate pulpy passions. It is grounded on that very basic story where hapless women are made to choose between two lovers, representing either true love or elusive security. Director Olivia Lamasan and writer Vanessa Valdez overhaul the overused tale, turning the central woman into a mistress of a wealthy businessman, and her other man as that wealthy businessman's rebellious heir. The film contributes a tad more sophistication to the tired genre, with characters struggling with love that is more the conflict rather than the resolution to the story. When Jd...

In The Name Of Love Review
The first fifteen minutes of Olivia Lamasan's In the Name of Love is that sort of uncharacteristic greatness that comes from an otherwise unspectacular director. Hinting of a narrative that is darker than what is expected from a mainstream studio, Lamasan confidently lays the pieces of her masterpiece-in-the-making. After spending seven years in a Japanese jail for being caught transporting yakuza money in the airport while on his way home to visit his son, Emman (Aga Muhlach) has become old and modest in his ambitions. However, an unlikely meet-up with Mercedes (Angel Locsin), the prostitute-turned-girlfriend of a politician's son (Jake Cuenca), pushes him in the middle of a dangerous love triangle involving a murderous political family and a province struggling under its control.  ...

Here Comes The Bride Review
All it took was a solar eclipse and five-car collision atop the Magnetic Hill for the souls of five individuals --- the virginal bride-to-be (Angelica Panganiban), her histrionically litigious godmother (Eugene Domingo), her ringbearer's destitute nanny (Tuesday Vargas), her husband-to-be's amorous grandfather (Jaime Fabregas), and her gay beautician (John Lapuz) --- to switch bodies. With the bride-to-be's soul transferring to the godmother's body; the godmother's soul transferring to the nanny's body; the nanny's soul transferring to the grandfather's body; the grandfather's soul transferring to the beautician's body; and the beautician's soul transferring to the bride-to-be's body, the dream beach wedding turns into a hilarious riot, where long-dormant passions are awakened, sexual fantasies are fulfilled, economic alleviation is achieved, and a chance at love is obtained.

Let us get it out of the way. Chris Martinez's Here Comes the Bride is top-notch entertainment. Martinez was able to come up with...
