Jeff Kober in The First Power (1990)
The First Power: 1990 Lou Diamond Phillips horror thriller gets a novelization
Jeff Kober in The First Power (1990)
I was only about 7 years old when I first watched writer/director Robert Resnikoff’s 1990 supernatural horror thriller The First Power – and as you might imagine, the things that movie had to show me shook my world and creeped the hell out of me. I loved it! I have counted The First Power as one of my favorites ever since, so it’s very cool to see that it has finally been given the novelization treatment, courtesy of Christian Francis. Hard copies of The First Power novelization can be purchased at This Link, and the Kindle edition is available Here.

Here’s the description: Based on the original screenplay, this novel delivers the high-stakes action, horror, and supernatural tension that made the film unforgettable. Detective Russell Logan thought he had ended Patrick Channing’s reign of terror. The serial killer was caught, sentenced to death, and executed. But some killers don’t stay dead.

‘Bingo Hell’ (2021), A Blumhouse Horror Comedy
Image
Bingo Hell is a movie directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero starring young upstarts called Adriana Barraza, Richard Brake, L. Scott Caldwell and Bertila Damas among other promising cast members.

The screenplay was written together by Shane McKenzie, Gigi Saul Guerrero and Perry Blackshear. And, apparently, they had a blast writing this.

Plot

Some seniors live a peaceful life caring for their community and spending hours playing bingo until things change: a new owner, with greater and more infernal prizes has arrived at the district to change the way this entertainment is experienced from now on.

About the Movie Bingo Hell (2021)

I was recommended this film as one of the worst films to write about and I will disagree: Bingo Hell is infernal entertainment, and very well made visually (at least the choices they have made). It is tacky, kitsch or whatever you want to call it, it has a neon...

‘Bingo Hell’ Review: The Door Prize Is Death in This Effortful Blumhouse Horror Comedy
Image
One of the lesser-sung items among umpteen offbeat little ’70s movies was Larry Yust’s “Homebodies.” That 1974 black comedy on the cusp of horror was about a community of frail old retirees who turn out to be surprisingly vigorous — even homicidal — in defending their homes from the callous forces of market-driven “progress.” A similar premise is the starting point for “Bingo Hell,” which alongside “Black as Night” kicks off the second quartet of genre features premiering under the “Welcome to the Blumhouse” umbrella on Amazon Prime. This first full-length solo directorial project for Gigi Saul Guerrero exchanges the Cincinnati grit of “Homebodies” for the hotter palette of a Southern California desert town.

The comedy and horror elements get amped up as well — maybe too much so. In any case, what starts out looking like another caustic commentary on gentrification at the expense of the elderly soon takes a turn into half-baked Stephen King territory,...

Tony Award Winner L. Scott Caldwell to Lead Blumhouse Amazon Feature ‘Bingo’ (Exclusive)
Image
L. Scott Caldwell will star in Blumhouse and Amazon’s “Bingo,” the latest thriller on the “Welcome to the Blumhouse” slate.

The Tony Award-winning actor, known for her roles as Rose in “Lost” and in “The Fugitive” will star as Delores, the “witty, loyal and tough grandmother” at the center of “Bingo’s” story.

Caldwell joins previously announced stars Adriana Barraza (Oscar nominee for “Babel”), who plays Delores’ best friend Lupita, and “The Good Lord Bird” breakout Joshua Caleb Johnson, as her grandson Caleb.

Set in the barrio of Oak Springs, the film follows a strong and stubborn group of elderly friends who refuse to be gentrified. Lupita is the leader of the group, keeping them together as a community, a family, but little do they know, their beloved Bingo hall is about to be sold to a much more powerful force than money itself.

“Bingo” is directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero...

Faceless (1988)
Mysterious Face Transplant Horror-Thriller 'Faceless' Official Trailer
Faceless (1988)
"Don't hide from your demons." Indican Pictures has revealed the official trailer for an eerie indie horror-thriller titled Faceless, a new film from filmmaker Marcel Sarmiento, director of the strange genre films Heavy Petting and Deadgirl. His latest film is another strange concept that is especially unsettling - a man wakes up to discover he has received a full face transplant. As he attempts to make sense of things leaving the hospital, he's plagued by vivid, unexplainable flashbacks and stumbles around trying to find out what's going on. Brendan Sexton III stars in this as George, with a cast including Alex Essoe, Terry Serpico, Clayton Landey, and Blake Robbins. The trailer is just as peculiar and confusing as you might expect for a film like this, as it's a bit challenging to try and figure it out just from two minutes of footage. Check it out. Here's the first official...

Many Local SAG-AFTRA Presidents “Declared Elected Without The Necessity Of A Membership Vote” In Uncontested Races
Logo
The hotly contested SAG-AFTRA presidential election is in full swing, but the presidents of 16 of the union’s 25 locals spread out across the country already have been “declared elected without the necessity of a membership vote” because they were running unopposed.

Members of five locals – in Colorado, Dallas-Fort Worth, Portland, Seattle and the Twin Cities – didn’t cast a single ballot for any of their officers, board members or convention delegates because all were running unopposed. In Colorado, there was no presidential candidate on the ballot because no one submitted in a timely manner.

On the national level, there is plenty of competition in the races for president, secretary-treasurer and the national board of directors. But that’s not the case at many of the smaller locals, where more often than not, incumbents are returned to office without opposition.

Local presidents elected or reelected without the necessity of...

Labor Law Violations Trigger A Do-Over For SAG-AFTRA Atlanta Local’s Elections
Logo
The SAG-AFTRA local in Atlanta is offering its members an election do-over: If they’ve already cast their ballots for board candidates, they can vote again for different candidates.

The unusual move comes after the local’s ruling faction, Union Strong Atlanta (USA), received an unfair and potentially illegal advantage from a local talent agency and from an acting workshop, which had posted campaign materials and promoted the Union Strong slate on their Facebook pages.

Prior to ballots being mailed last month, SAG-aftra’s national election committee informed employers and agents that “federal law prohibits any employer, including employers who are agents, managers, casting directors or producers, from contributing anything of value to candidates for any SAG-aftra elected office. If there is a Department of Labor investigation, the Dol may seek to take statements from candidates and any employers who contributed to them. Further, any such contributions may...
