Michael Davis: The Top 10 Black Superheroes…
…Created By White Guys and Louise Simonson

My sincere thanks to Grace Randolph

10. Black Lightning.

Created by Tony Isabella

What can I say about Black Lightning except for the fake Afro wig (decades before Steve Harvey’s Btw… wait… y’all didn’t know that was a wig? Oops, sorry Steve, my bad) but like I was saying-except for the wig I loved this character the moment I saw him. Yeah, there were some stereotypical thing to him like his real first name, Jefferson but his last name was Pierce and Jefferson Pierce sounded so cool I can give Jefferson a pass.

9. Spawn.

Created By Todd McFarlane

Little know story: when I was the CEO of Motown Animation & Filmworks I started a comic book imprint called Machineworks. We were all set to do a publishing deal with Marvel Comics which would have given Marvel its very own Milestone like imprint.

The Extended Disney Family And Peter Pan
The new Blu-ray/DVD/Digital release of Walt Disney’s Peter Pan includes the bonus features from previous DVD releases plus a few additions, including Growing up with Nine Old Men, a short documentary in which Ted Thomas, the filmmaker and son of top Disney animator Frank Thomas, checks in with the children of the other artists who were nicknamed the Nine Old Men. There are no revelations or airing of dirty laundry, but if you’re a diehard Disney buff you’ll enjoy learning about the personal lives, families, and hobbies of such animation titans as Thomas, Ollie Johnston, Ward Kimball, Milt Kahl, Wolfgang Reitherman, Les Clark, and John Lounsbery. Glen Keane Talks Tangled
Executive producer and supervising animator Glen Keane talks Tangled

Tangled will hit the shelves on Blu-ray and DVD on March 29, which is a landmark release because Tangled is the Walt Disney Pictures' 50th animated movie. One of the driving forces behind this new spin on the Rapunzel tale is Glen Keane, who served as both the supervising animator and executive producer. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment recently held a virtual roundtable junket with Glen Keane, to discuss his experiences working on Tangled. Here's what he had to say below.

How did you reach the amazing "organic quality" in terms of the character animation.? Did you have any special tools/techniques to improve that effect, or is it in the end just the hard work of the artists?

Glen Keane: For me it was very important to find what I call "bridge people." These are people who understand computer and hand drawn animation.

Arizona's Other Shooting Horror
Still mourning the shooting spree that claimed a 9-year-old girl's life, Arizona is bracing for the trial of another accused child-killer: a female Minuteman. Terry Greene Sterling reports.

Early on the morning of May 30, 2009, Raul Flores heard a knock at the door of his Arivaca, Arizona, home. When he opened it, he found a man and a woman claiming to be law-enforcement officers in search of fugitives. Minutes later, the man shot Flores to death. Then, authorities say, he pumped three bullets into Flores' wife, Gina Gonzalez, who survived but played dead. "Why did you shoot my mom?" Gonzalez's 9-year-old daughter, Brisenia Flores, asked the gunman, according to prosecutors. Those were her last words. The man put a gun to her head, fired off two rounds, and killed her.

Leonardo DiCaprio does some killing in The Devil in the White City
Leonardo DiCaprio can do a lot of things well, but now he's looking to get downright murderous. Leo will put that famously furrowed brow to good use as killer H.H. Holmes in an adaptation of Eric Larson's book The Devil In The White City. The chilling story revolves around the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, and (per Amazon) follows two men: "Daniel H. Burnham, the architect responsible for the fair's construction, and H.H. Holmes, a serial killer masquerading as a charming doctor....
