The premise of Glen A. Larson's 1978 sci-fi series "Battlestar Galactica" was high-concept and complex. It took place far from Earth, at the end of humanity's millennium-long war with a species of robots called the Cylons. The Cylons themselves were built by a long-extinct race of humanoid reptiles, and they seem poised to offer the same fate to humankind. Feeling that the writing was on the wall, a human named Count Baltar (John Colicos) betrayed humanity by siding with the Cylons, putting the robots hot on the trail of the Battlestar Galactica, a massive starship carrying most of the galaxy's last-known humans. Their goal is to find a long-lost "thirteenth tribe," a human colony that was said to have settled on a distant planet called Earth.

The developer of Battlestar Galactica’s 2004 reboot, Ronald D. Moore, has confirmed that he’s done with the franchise for good. Moore turned the sci-fi show originated by Glen A. Larson in 1978 into one of the 21st century’s most popular and acclaimed TV series, before ending it in 2009, after four seasons, a miniseries, and two small-screen movies.
Now, the writer and producer has revealed that he believes his involvement with the franchise is definitely over. Despite working on the Battlestar Galactica spinoff series Caprica after he’d brought the main show to an end, Moore doesn’t expect to return to it again.
Speaking to ScreenRant’s Joe Deckelmeier about writing another Battlestar Galactica reboot at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, July 24, Moore seemed to have made up his mind. When asked about the possibility of being involved in such a reboot, he responded as follows:
“Under my vision?...

The 70s were a time when television would seem to try anything at least once. Science Fiction was one of the main genres where this was very true. Thanks to the success of series like Star Trek, and Lost in Space there was a deluge of, off beat and actually good genre TV (as we explored on last week’s Land of the Lost episode). Typically it was with some sort of toy tie-in or angle to get children to watch and/or buy something. And just wait until Star Wars happened.
But, the early 70s would find a new kind of hero to grab the hearts and minds of kids across the country and he’d bring with him some of the coolest toys around. Because, he was literally made up of metal and plastic himself.

In the days before cable television got serious about creating original programming, the networks were just about the only game in town if you wanted to watch a new hour-long drama or half-hour sitcom. This meant it was on three broadcast entities to serve a diverse array of viewers with cop procedurals, family-friendly comedies, urbane farces, nighttime soaps, Westerns and science fiction. There were certain formulas that worked and got rehashed as needed, but the networks were always on the lookout for something out of the ordinary, a smarter-than-average take on one of the aforementioned genres, or, even better, a daringly innovative series that captured the public's imagination. Shows like "Soap," "St. Elsewhere" and "Twin Peaks" pulled this off with stunning élan, but when a network risk went south there was always the chance that you'd wind up with a pop cultural punchline like "My Mother, the Car," "Supertrain," or "Cop Rock.

For many modern science-fiction fans, you may know Ronald D. Moore from his works on the Apple+ series, "For All Mankind". Yet, for fans of a certain age, you may remember Moore's work on Star Trek. He's often seen as one of the best writers the franchise ever had. Yet, between the current Apple+ series, and his work on Star Trek, Moore rebooted the maligned 1970s and 1980s series, Battlestar Galactica.
Moore helmed the show, which got picked up by SyFy first as a limited-run mini-series, and then later as a full-fledged show. While the show fell off heading into the fourth and final season, it still remains one of the most consistent, thought-provoking and incredible science-fiction series to date.

Pulp-influenced, space-faring comic book heroes from Flash Gordon to Star-Lord can tip their hat to Buck Rogers, who debuted on the funny pages in 1929 and paved the way for the medium's future sci-fi protagonists. Though Legendary and Skydance have been developing their dueling "Buck Rogers" projects in recent years, the character's pop culture prevalence isn't quite what it used to be. Back in the day, however, Rogers received more than his share of attention. The character soon leaped from the page to a long-running radio series, a 1939 movie starring Buster Crabbe -- who, funnily enough, was also the go-to Flash Gordon actor of the era -- and a short-lived 1950 TV show.
However, if you were to name a definitive live-action take on Buck Rogers, it's hard to beat "Battlestar Galactica" creator Glen A. Larson's "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century." The show got its start in 1979 with a frankly...

Battlestar Galactica's 2004 reboot series made many changes to its source material, and one of those deviations led directly to the show's best character. Beyond the name and central premise, Ronald D. Moore's Battlestar Galactica TV show shared very little in common with the 1970s series created by Glen A. Larson. Moore's tone was darker, the story was richer, the characters were more nuanced, and the Cylons were more fleshy. Nevertheless, Battlestar Galactica's reboot retained many main characters from the original series, including Starbuck, the Adamas, and Colonel Tigh.
Most of these recycled characters only carried a vague resemblance to their namesakes. Battlestar Galactica 2004's cast of characters received more layered development, more backstory, and more color to their personalities. In virtually every case, the reboot's character alterations could be considered improvements, but one reinvention proved particularly successful by turning a run-of-the-mill antagonist into one of sci-fi's greatest characters.

Glen A. Larson's "Battlestar Galactica" has evolved into a sizable franchise since the original series (of the same name) aired in 1978. No matter the medium, these stories always find their way back to the Twelve Colonies — a group of planets representing humanity during the Cylon War — as it falls under attack. The attackers in question are the Cylons, who wish to exterminate the human race at all costs, and to this end, they destroy the Colonies, save for a small group that manages to escape. Among the remaining spacecrafts, only the Battlestar Galactica, which doubles as a battleship and a carrier, is able to offer refuge to the survivors in search of a mysterious new colony: Earth.
Yep, this is a really cool premise, and "Battlestar Galactica" explores the age-old themes of morality, survival, conflict, and faith through an intriguing narrative lens. The techno-jargon employed throughout is not ornamental,...

After opening theatrically in May 2024, The Fall Guy has finally landed on Peacock for home video streaming. With roughly 20 minutes restored to flesh out the story and deliver more visceral stunt-leaded action set pieces, The Fall Guy's extended cut aims for a much more complete, additive experience than a redundant and repetitive one. For those who enjoyed the theatrical release or missed the movie, a closer look at the new scenes will help viewers decide whether it's worth a watch.
Indeed, most deleted movie scenes are removed from a theatrical release for pacing and tempo, and to ensure the plot drives forward without too many unnecessary distractions. Yet, in the case of The Fall Guy, the extra scenes restored to the extended cut may answer outstanding questions, wrap up loose ends, and provide a much more satisfying sense of closure while delivering more action-packed thrills.

Hollywood has been chasing the blockbuster high of "Star Wars" since 1977 — and often falling short. One of the first and most transparent copies, though, was on television. In 1978, Glen A. Larson created a space opera for serialization on ABC: "Battlestar Galactica." Set in far-away space, the series kicked off with the TV movie "Saga of a Star World." Humans, living on 12 planets named for the astrological signs, are at war with a robot race called the Cylons. A surprise attack sees the Cylons laying waste to their enemies — the remaining humans flee in a "ragtag fugitive fleet" led by the eponymous starship.
The "Star Wars" similarities are obvious, both in narrative and aesthetic. Lieutenant Starbuck (Dirk Benedict) in "Battlestar Galactica" is a cocky starship pilot, clearly modeled on Han Solo (Harrison Ford). Like the X-Wings in "Star Wars," the heroes fly one-man, fighter jet style ships ("Vipers") into battle. A...

Casting the right actor in an important role is one of the most important decisions that a movie or TV show can make. How this actor brings the character to life and their chemistry with the other actors is just as important as the story they're telling. Over the years, the film industry has been more open to gender-flipped casting, which sees performers of different genders take on roles initially written for or acted by someone of a separate identity. In some cases, gender-swap recasts improve upon the original movie or TV show, creating exciting opportunities for the story.
Most gender-swapped casting in movies and TV involves women stepping in to play roles traditionally portrayed by men.

Exclusive: The Fall Guy is off to a strong start on Peacock, launching over the holiday weekend as the streamer’s biggest film debut since Oppenheimer.
The film was the second most-watched film on streaming in the U.S. over the Labor Day weekend, per Nielsen data.
NBCUniversal didn’t say exactly how many people watched, but further data will be available in a few weeks when Nielsen drops its streaming report for the Labor Day weekend. The Fall Guy is expected to be among the top titles.
Paris Olympics coverage is at least partially to thank for the film’s streaming success, as The Fall Guy was the top film watched by Olympics viewing accounts, the company said. It was the No. 2 title overall for Olympics viewing accounts, behind only Love Island USA.
The extended cut, which features an additional 20 minutes of footage, was the big draw, making 92% of the film’s viewing.

With the Battlestar Galactica reboot's mission being aborted long before its planned launch, one of the show's Og stars has mixed feelings about the news. Katee Sackhoff insists the military sci-fi series can still be revived, but the version she starred in "ended beautifully."
Speaking with Collider, Sackhoff believes the first reboot of Battlestar Galactica, airing between 2004 and 2009, had more narratives to explore. However, she remains content with how the most recent version of the show concluded. "I am of two minds; on one hand, I thought that in the story we told, there potentially was more there, but at the same time, I thought that it ended beautifully," Sackhoff said.

The 1980s are often viewed as a pop cultural wasteland: a post-disco, style-over-substance hellscape where music videos turned vacuous bands and singers into chart-topping titans, blockbuster-chasing executives drained films of personality and artistic merit, and television pandered to a benumbed viewership with hacky sitcoms, formula dramas, and risible nighttime soaps. This was only half-true.

Mr Robot showrunner Sam Esmail’s Battlestar Galactica reboot needs a new home as streaming platform Peacock has reportedly passed on it.
A new take on the space opera TV series Battlestar Galactica is no longer in development at NBCUniversal’s streaming platform Peacock, it’s been reported.
Originally announced in 2019, the Battlestar reboot was being overseen by Sam Esmail, creator of hit series Mr Robot, who was executive producer under his own company, Esmail Corp. Various writers had come and gone over its long gestation, while 2023’s Hollywood strikes also delayed work on show.
Esmail told Deadline in October 2023 that development on the new Battlestar Galactica was still ongoing, however, and things still sounded positive in January, when Derek Simonds, who wrote and directed TV’s The Sinner, was announced as its new screenwriter.

The Battlestar Galactica reboot has been lost in space. After about five years in development hell, the project has officially been scrapped.
Per Variety, Peacock has axed a planned Battlestar Galactica reboot that was in the works for a streaming release on the NBCUniversal platform. The unfortunate update comes nearly five full years since the project was announced in September 2019. At the time, a Battlestar Galactica reboot series was one of the titles announced by NBCUniversal for Peacock's original programming ahead of the platform's official launch in 2020. However, though it was given an announcement, the show was never officially ordered to series, and it would now appear that NBCUniversal had called it quits on making it happen.

The long-gestating reboot of the popular sci-fi franchise Battlestar Galactica, from Sam Esmail’s Esmail Corp., is no longer set up at Peacock.
First announced as being in development at the NBCUniversal streamer in 2019, the new incarnation of Battlestar Galactica never got to a green light but remained in development, including a writer change within the past year as The Sinner creator Derek Simonds came on board as writer, executive producer and showrunner.
That version of the project from Simonds will now be shopped to other platforms by its studio, Peacock’s NBCUniversal sibling UCP.
A new take on the classic IP, the latest incarnation is executive produced by Simonds as well as Esmail Corp’s Sam Esmail and Chad Hamilton. UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.
Battlestar Galactica has been a passion project for Mr. Robot creator Esmail who is a big fan of the original.

Battlestar Galactica's intense atmosphere and secrecy led to a culture of fear and anxiety among the cast. The Fall Guy was an early Eighties TV show that followed the adventures and misadventures of a stuntman who moonlighted as a bounty hunter. It was one of a whole slew of shows like The Dukes Of Hazzard and The A-Team where a quantity of loveable rogues, often with a good car, met and then vanquished a villain every week. Glen A Larson, who created the original series, would revisit that formula again and again.

The evolution of the Battlestar Galactica franchise has been one of the most surprising reboots in the history of science fiction. Although it did end up generating a cult following, the original Battlestar Galactica series from 1978 was by no means a mainstream hit; in fact, the show was so often compared to the Star Wars franchise that 20th Century Fox actually sued producer Glen A. Larson for plagiarism. However, the Battlestar Galactica reboot from Star Trek: The Next Generation writer Ronald D. Moore ended up becoming an acclaimed, politically relevant drama series that ran for four successful seasons on the SyFy network. Despite utilizing many of the archetypes and mythology of its predecessor, the Battlestar Galactica reboot had many major differences from the original series.

Moore's experiences on DS9 influenced the darker tone of Battlestar Galactica, with similar storylines and character inspirations. Connections between the two shows include shared actors, music mysteries, and thematic similarities in character development. DS9's influence on Battlestar Galactica writers helped shape the morally ambiguous and darker themes of the rebooted series.
Ronald D. Moore's 2004 Battlestar Galactica reboot borrowed a story idea from his first season as Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's supervising producer. When Star Trek: The Next Generation ended in 1994, Ronald D. Moore joined the DS9 team as a writer and supervising producer. Together with Ira Steven Behr, Robert Hewitt Wolfe, and the rest of the DS9 team, Moore was instrumental in shaping the Dominion War arc between seasons 3 and 7. Years later, when Ronald D. Moore rebooted Battlestar Galactica, it was clear that Moore's experiences on DS9 influenced his darker take on Glen A. Larson's space opera.

Magnum, P.I. was a huge hit in the 1980s, giving star Tom Selleck his big break in Hollywood. Despite enjoying his time on the show, Selleck shared in his new memoir, You Never Know, that he disliked the show's title for one specific reason.
Per TVLine, Selleck wrote in his memoir that the beloved crime drama series, created by Donald P. Bellisario and Glen A. Larson, was originally titled Magnum. At that time, the title character's full name was also different, being Harry Magnum instead of Thomas Magnum. An unfulfilled guest star appearance by Katee Sackhoff on The Office would have been a perfect callback to Jim's iconic line mocking Dwight's Battlestar Galactica obsession. Rainn Wilson revealed that the show tried to get Sackhoff to appear on The Office either as herself or a character Dwight encounters, but it never worked out. Sackhoff's Star Wars role would have added another layer of significance if she'd guest-stared on the later seasons of The Office, as Dwight is also a fan of this franchise.
A specific actor's unfulfilled guest star appearance on The Office would have been the perfect callback to one of Jim Halpert's most iconic lines. While the ensemble cast of The Office was full of strong performers, some of the best characters were only around for a short while. Throughout its nine-season run, The Office (U.S.) featured plenty of memorable guest stars in a variety of roles.

Throughout its nine-season run, The Office (U.S.) featured plenty of memorable guest stars in a variety of roles.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2024, the Battlestar Galactica reboot marked one of television's first high-profile fusions of sociopolitical sci-fi with an HBO series' prestige drama sensationalism. Battlestar's bleak realism complete with a gray color palette, cinma vrit cinematography, and an apocalyptic scenario populated with fluidly flawed characters helped Ronald D. Moore and David Eick's reimagining of Glen A. Larson's 1978 series transcend genre barriers. It gathered accolades by the truckload, turned weekly space opera into watercooler material, and opened the floodgates for philosophically-minded projects like Foundation and Moore's own For All Mankind.

The Fall Guy created a stir on social media with the inclusion of a joke that made light of the relationship between former couple Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Now, the writer of the film has weighed in, arguing that the whole point was that the joke was inappropriate, as this was in line for the character.
In The Fall Guy, Hannah Waddingham plays movie producer Gail Meyer. One scene in the film sees the antagonist walking into a disheveled trailer on a film set and joking, "It's like Amber and Johnny were just in here." This is a clear reference to the allegations of domestic violence that Depp and Heard had accused one another of, leading to a high-profile defamation trial. Speaking about the scene with THR, writer Drew Pearce agreed that "no decent human being" would ever joke about domestic violence, and that's why the line was said by the movie's villain,...
