The legacy of Paul Heyman, the infamous professional wrestling promoter, serves as a position of brilliance and anarchy. In the 1990s, he assumed the reins at Extreme Championship Wrestling (Ecw). He built it into a cutting-edge promotion that offered a different, gritty, hardcore wrestling experience than WWE and WCW, which created an ultra-loyal cult following.

In 1999, a deal with The Nashville Network (Tnn) brought glory when Ecw experienced a zenith of success and national prominence in the United States. While 410,000 fans were still tuned into “Monday Night Raw,” some of the most intense and groundbreaking wrestling matches ever witnessed in the industry.

Nevertheless, with success came the eternal specter of financial collapse. All of the mastermind creative licenses rapidly became a hit or miss for Ecw. Financial chaos loomed due to Heyman’s lack of oversight with finances, which left the promotion with unpaid talent,...

A lot of Ecw fans may have gotten dj vu while watching Roman Reigns' phone call to Paul Heyman on last Friday's episode of WWE SmackDown. The ongoing Bloodline story arc reached its most interesting development, when Reigns tried to call his all-knowing advocate and Wiseman, only to learn the number is disconnected.

As Bubba "Bully" Ray Dudley expressed on Busted Open Radio, and in an accompanying X post, Roman Reigns' phone call to Paul Heyman on WWE SmackDown echoes another storyline from Paul Heyman's extreme alma mater, Ecw, in a story involving Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk. Dreamer would corroborate Bully's sentiment in an X post of his own, adding that while WWE's storyline heads into Survivor Series: WarGames, Dreamer's kindred storyline was heading into Ecw November to Remember 1996.

Much of wrestling history reflects on how WCW was WWE's biggest competitor of the 90s, but Ecw can't be left out of that conversation. While Ecw wasn't on course to beat WWE in the ratings for 83 weeks like Eric Bischoff, Extreme Championship Wrestling did largely inspire many of the sensibilities of modern wrestling.

Before WWE quickly introduced inappropriate moments into the Attitude Era that they couldn't get away with today, Paul Heyman was booking even more extreme angles for Ecw. Before WCW had a hardcore division, Ecw was hardcore. Even to this day, Ecw leaves a mark on current wrestling, as WWE's Nxt brand headed to the classic 2300 Ecw arena in Philadelphia, showing that the legacy of Extreme is still alive in WWE. When looking at some of Ecw's most extreme moments, it's easy to see why wrestling fans find the promotion so unforgettable.

Hardcore legend and WWE Hall of Fame wrestler Terry Funk has died. He was 79.

Funk’s mentee and fellow Hall of Famer Mick Foley confirmed his passing Wednesday on X, the app formerly known as Twitter. A cause of death was not immediately disclosed.

Hall of Fame wrestler Scott Hall died Monday at the age of 63, WWE has confirmed.

The former WWE Intercontinental Champion had been on life support since Saturday after suffering serious complications from hip replacement surgery, per PWTorch.

Longtime friend and former tag team partner Kevin Nash paid tribute to Hall on Monday, announcing his family’s intent to remove him from life support.

Wrestler Tommy Dreamer has reportedly been suspended indefinitely by Impact Wrestling following comments he made during Vice’s docuseries, Dark Side of the Ring.

Pro Wrestling Insider reports that Dreamer was “asked to leave effective immediately” from this week’s taping in Tennessee after making statements that were “out of line” with the company’s core values. Impact Wrestling has not yet responded to TVLine’s request for comment.

Shortly after the news of his passing was announced, Ed Asner is trending on Twitter with many of his famous fans paying tribute along with many others across the world. Asner, whose impressive legacy includes winning five Emmys for playing Lou Grant on two separate TV shows, passed away on Sunday at the age of 91. The news has left many feeling the pain of losing someone who was just as wonderful behind the scenes as a person as he was an actor on screen.

"Ed Asner, who won seven Emmy awards including five for the unforgettable role of Lou Grant, has passed away," tweets Star Trek legend George Takei. "He was a giant on the screen, and a philanthropist, too. A man of true heart and talent. He will be missed."

The legends of pro wrestling are banding together to say goodbye to WWE Hall of Famer Paul Orndorff. Known to wrestling fans worldwide as "Mr. Wonderful," Paul Orndorff sadly passed away on Monday following a recent dementia diagnosis at the age of 71. Many fans have been left in mourning in the wake of the news, and those who knew Ondorff and had even performed with him in the ring are feeling especially heartbroken.

One man who was quick to pay tribute online is Hulk Hogan. Previously, Hogan and Paul Orndorff had been foes in the 1980s. They even wrestled in the main event of the first WrestleMania with Hogan teaming with Mr. T to take on Orndorff and Roddy Piper. In today’s TV news roundup, Netflix unveiled the trailer for its superhero drama “Jupiter’s Legacy,” and ESPN set the premiere date for docuseries “GOATs: The Greatest of All Time.”

ESPN will debut three-part docuseries “GOATs: The Greatest of All Time,” exploring star athletes through the lens of veteran sports photographer Walter Iooss, March 7 at 8 p.m. Directed by Kevin Kaufman, the series will celebrate some of the world’s greatest athletes, featuring exclusive interviews with Kobe Bryant, Joe Montana, Derek Jeter, Tiger Woods, Joe Namath, Chris Evert, Ken Griffey Jr., Jack Nicklaus, Caroline Wozniacki and Kelly Slater. The series is produced by Kaufman Films in association with Transform Films & Royal Ventures Studios. Kaufman will executive produce, along with Beth Fraikorn and Joe Dimuro. The youth-skewing broadcaster is expanding its Dark Side of the Ring franchise further with a 90-minute talk show.

Dark Side of the Ring: Confidential, which premieres Tuesday March 9, will feature eight 90-minute episodes, where the show’s creators dive into the episodes of season one and two and answer the unanswered questions and secrets and feature never-seen-before moments.

Creators Evan Husney and Jason Eisener will sit down for a series of roundtable discussions with host and wrestling insider Conrad Thompson and episodes will feature guests such as Tommy Dreamer, The Blue Meanie, Savio Vega , and former WWE referee Mike Chioda.

Each episode will explore a major moment from the series, including the Von Erich brothers’ tragic deaths, The Montreal Screwjob and conspiracy theories around Gino Hernandez’s death.
