On An Early afternoon in July, singer-songwriter Billianne is sitting at home in Milton, Ontario, surrounded by the green walls of the house she shares with her parents. These days, her life has been changing so much that she’s been dreaming of moving — she’s been playing with the idea of going to Toronto, a place she loves.
“I feel a bit of a broken record,” says Billianne. “I tell everyone I want to move to Toronto really badly. I want to live there. To me, that’s like where everything’s happening.

Tyler Childers has always seemed comfortable in his contradictions. He’s an old-soul traditionalist whose throwback ballads regularly go TikTok viral, a recovering alcoholic who still releases some of the 21st century’s best drinking music, a stadium-sized star who hasn’t performed his most popular song in a half-decade.
For the past 10 years, Childers has been preaching his righteous Kentucky gospel (see “Long Violent History,” written in the wake of George Floyd protests). Part of that project is showing that, in contrast to how it’s typically portrayed, Childers...

Hulk Hogan, who served as a main catalyst for launching pro wrestling off the top rope and into the pop culture stratosphere when he joined the World Wrestling Federation and became perhaps its biggest star, died Thursday in Clearwater, Fl. He was 71.
WWE confirmed his death but did not reveal the cause. Local police said Hogan (real name Terry Bollea) suffered cardiac arrest at his home and was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The news comes three days after Fox Nation secured rights to air Real American Freestyle, the wrestling league started by WWE Hall of Famer Hogan, Eric Bischoff and Chad Bronstein.
In a statement, CEO and Co-founder Bronstein said, “We lost our Commissioner. We lost a friend. And the sport of wrestling lost one of its greatest champions, not just in the ring, but in spirit. Hulk Hogan believed wrestling was more than just entertainment. He saw it as a brotherhood,...

The groundbreaking anarchic, drug-soaked and political semi-biopic “Kneecap” opened the Galway Film Fleadh in 2024 on its way to a BAFTA award and a chance at an Oscar nomination, having been submitted by Ireland and making the Academy’s international film shortlist.
While Kneecap the band are still touring (they recently played at Glastonbury) and sparking headlines as they go, the film’s producer Trevor Birney returns to Galway this week with an altogether different project.

The film charts Mitchell’s journey from Maine to Washington D.C. to almost six years as senate majority leader to being selected by Bill Clinton as the special envoy for Northern Ireland. When Hulk Hogan pinned the Iron Sheik at Madison Square Garden on January 23, 1984, to become the Worldwide Wrestling Federation's new heavyweight champion, professional wrestling was transformed practically overnight into a pop cultural phenomenon. This roughly coincided with Captain Lou Albano appearing in Cyndi Lauper's music video for "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," which laid the groundwork for the popular singer to participate in a crossover narrative that caught the attention of millions of non-wrestling fans. Though killjoy snobs lamented this explosion of interest in what had long been considered a tawdry, low-aiming entertainment, the never ending soap opera of the WWF and competitors like the Ted Turner-backed Nwa and the Awa proved irresistible to many.

Legendary session bassist Carol Kaye has confirmed she won’t be attending the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony later this year. In a Facebook statement, the 90-year-old musician explained that she is turning down the show because it doesn’t accurately capture the spirit of studio musicians during her heyday.
“No I won’t be there,” Kaye wrote. “I am declining the [Rock & Roll Hall of Fame] awards show… turning it down because it wasn’t something that reflects the work that Studio Musicians do and did in the golden era of the 1960s Recording Hits.”
Kaye also took issue with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame describing her as a member of the “Wrecking Crew,” a label used to describe the collective work of studio musicians in the 1960s and 1970s. Kaye has long maintained that the name is an inaccurate and insulting label for session players of her era.

Hugh Jackman earned an Oscar nomination for his work as Jean Valjean in “Les Misérables,” but things didn’t go so well decades ago while belting out the musical’s “Stars” when he had to sing for the first time at an audition.
“I read first and I could tell it was going well,” Jackman said Saturday night during a performance of “An Evening With Hugh Jackman” at the Hollywood Bowl. “Then I sang and I cracked on the final note so spectacularly. Like it was the worst crack you could have ever imagined. Whatever excitement was on the panel, it just deflated immediately. I was about to run out, just humiliated.”
“But then the guy goes, ‘Whoa, hold on a second. Why did you sing that song?’” Jackman continued. “I said, ‘It’s the only thing I had music for. I’m sorry.’ And he said, ‘Well, you can throw that away.

Is there any saving grace in this disgraceful comedy of terrors? Oh yes, Jacqueline, Lisa and Nargis playing three exceptionally stupid Londoners, roles that suit them to a tee-hee, get to dance to the vintage Cyndi Lauper track “Girls just wanna have fun”. Nothing prepares you for the assault on all aesthetic consideration in this mirthless, and worthless, comedy.
Nothing at all. Not even the opening when Nikitin Dheer, Samir Kochhar and Arav Chowdhary loot jewellery like they had just seen Dhoom: 2 for the third time.
Besides Akshay Kumar battling bravely to beef up the burlesque, there is no one to salvage the comedy about three losers eyeing a London Gujarati millionaire’s wealth. Or maybe ‘eyeing’ is not the right word considering Riteish Deshmukh plays blind to obtain entry...

Sadly, the man behind that song, Rick Derringer, passed away on May 26, 2025, at the age of 77. Though the cause of death was not revealed but Derringer was suffering from ill health for the past few months.

Musician and producer Rick Derringer has died at the age of 77. Derringer is remembered for his work across a variety of genres. With his band, The McCoys, he recorded the iconic 1960s rock track "Hang On Sloopy," and he would go on to work with 1980s icons Hulk Hogan and Weird Al Yankovic. The Associated Press reports that Derringer's death was announced by his caretaker, Tony Wilson; no cause of death was given.
Derringer was born Richard Zehringer on August 5, 1947, in Celina, Ohio. His parents had an extensive record collection and his uncle, Jim Thornburg, was a popular local guitarist, inspiring Derringer to pursue a career in music. As a teenager, his family moved to Union City, Indiana, where he formed The McCoys. When they were hired to open for The Strangeloves, they recognized Derringer's talent, and had him record the new song "Hang On Sloopy." Although some elements of the song remain obscure,...

When they were hired to open for The Strangeloves, they recognized Derringer's talent, and had him record the new song "Hang On Sloopy." Although some elements of the song remain obscure,...

Rick Derringer, who had a No. 1 hit with The McCoys in “Hang on Sloopy,” created a classic rock staple in “Rock and Roll, Hootchie Koo,” produced the Edgar Winter Group’s hit “Frankenstein” and songs for “Weird” Al Yankovic, died Monday. He was 77.
A family spokesman announced the news on social media, but did not provide a cause or other details. His wife and longtime bandmate, Jenda Derringer, noted in February that her husband had angioplasty for two blockages in his leg that was followed by surgery and complications. She also said he had Type 2 diabetes.
Born Richard Zehringer on August 5, 1947, in Celina, Ohio, Derringer was 17 when his band The McCoys opened for The Strangeloves, who picked the young group to record its song “My Girl Sloopy.” Derringer had the title and lyrics changed, and with its loping rhythm and singalong chorus “Hang on Sloopy” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early October.

Cyndi Lauper on if She’d Want Chappell Roan to Induct Her at Rock Hall of Fame: “She’s Really Great”
Cyndi Lauper has long been considered one of pop music’s most vocal advocates for women and the LGBTQ community, and amid her upcoming farewell concert tour and recently announced induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, that seems to be the legacy she’s hoping to leave behind.
“I think it’s nice to get awards. It really is. And it’s nice to be recognized after you’ve worked real hard at something. But I also think, ‘what can I do to create change? What can I do to make it better?'” Lauper told Lori Majewski on Sirius Xm’s Fierce: Women in Music program. “Not just for me, not even just for my gender but for the people that come afterwards: the planet, the people, the kids. If you look at the young artists, the painters and you look at what they’re doing a lot,...

When this year’s inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame were announced, it included legends and pop/rock icons like Chubby Checker, Soundgarden and Cyndi Lauper. But it just wasn’t weird enough. So, come on, it’s time to ask: Why isn’t “Weird Al” Yankovic in the hall of fame?
Joining in the campaign to get Weird Al inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is John Mulaney, who brought up His Weirdness when chatting about this year’s inductees. Speaking about Chubby Checker’s induction specifically, Mulaney noted that there is some humor to it. “Knowing that it was part novelty I think is great. I’m a big proponent of novelty music. I’m a big proponent of “Weird Al” getting into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This is one step closer, though I don’t know why they need to be led via steps.

Few would have been surprised if Cyndi Lauper had entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame during her first year of eligibility back in 2008. After all, she’s one of the most successful artists of the Eighties, and songs like “Time After Time,” “True Colors,” and “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” have enjoyed stunning staying power. The video for “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” has racked up 1.5 billion plays on YouTube; the song itself 1.4 billion plays on Spotify. (And that’s not even getting into the juggernaut of Kinky Boots.

WWE superstar Becky Lynch is branching out into acting, and is set to star on the upcoming Star Trek: Starfleet Academy series. But before she boldly goes where no The Man has gone before, she talked to Variety about her history with the franchise, and her favorite Star Trek star. Those who know that Lynch (real name Rebecca Quin) hails from Ireland may have been able to guess that her fave is countryman Colm Meaney, who starred as Miles O'Brien, "the most important person in Starfleet history," on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine.
Lynch, who recently returned to the squared circle at last month's WrestleMania, discussed her stint on the show, but couldn't reveal much: "I’m on the bridge crew, and filming on the bridge, it was one of the most amazing sets I’ve ever been on." And while she wasn't a hardcore Trekkie,...

The path to stardom and success hasn’t always been smooth and easy for stars. Something that Chappell Roan will agree with. The 27-year-old singer, who recently made history at the 2025 Grammy Awards, was apparently rejected, not once but twice, by two of the country’s most prestigious reality TV talent shows.
Turns out, back in the days, when this young rising talent was trying to break into the industry, she was turned down by The Voice and America’s Got Talent. However, instead of losing hope or crying over rejections, Chappell Roan turned the tables with her sheer talent.

Warren Zevon’s son isn’t sure how his late father would feel about finally getting inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. “By now he’d be 78,” Jordan Zevon tells Rolling Stone. “How would 78-year-old pop react to it? This year, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will induct acts including Soundgarden, Outkast, and the White Stripes — but some huge names from the ballot didn’t make it, most notably Mariah Carey (for the third time!), Oasis, and Phish.
Carey is an undisputed pop legend; Oasis recorded some of the greatest songs of the Nineties and are about to embark on the most-anticipated reunion tour in years; Phish are, well, Phish, a band that’s created a universe of its own, playing arenas decades into their career. So what happened?...

The 16-minute collection is his first body of work since his 2023 flute-based album New Blue Sun, which Rolling Stone praised as “a gorgeous, deeply contemporary, prismatic breath of fresh incense.” Similar to his previous music, 7 piano sketches fully embraces its instrumentals and puts André’s solo talents on full display. After the tease with which the April 28 episode of The Voice ended, we all kinda guessed, didn’t we, that coaches John Legend, Adam Levine, Michael Bublé and Kelsea Ballerini would be allowed to invite back an eliminated contestant ahead of the Lives. And indeed, in the final moments of Monday’s episode, they were informed that they could use another Super Save to return one singer apiece to the competition. Which ones? That, we wouldn’t find out until next week. In the meantime, let’s review how Michael and John’s teams fared on the second and last night of the Playoffs.

Soundgarden are seen as a quintessential Nineties band, but they actually formed in 1984, and started releasing music three years later. That means they’ve been eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 2012. Fans started giving up hope after they appeared on two ballots prior to this year, and failed to get in. That made it even more joyous when the Seattle group finally made the cut this year alongside the White Stripes, OutKast, Chubby Checker, Bad Company, Joe Cocker, Salt-n-Pepa, Warren Zevon, and Cyndi Lauper.

The copyright infringement lawsuit claiming that Sam Smith and Normani’s 2018 hit single “Dancing With a Stranger” stole from a 2015 song of the same name has been revived by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. In 2023, a California federal judge dismissed the case, stating that “most if not all of the Plaintiff’s claimed similarities” relied on musical building blocks that belong to the public domain and could not be protected by law. The federal appeals court has reversed the ruling, stating that a “reasonable jury” should decide the matter instead.

Chappell Roan has won a Grammy, performed in front of one of the biggest Lollapalooza crowds of all time and finds no problem establishing boundaries as a rising star. However, one of the “scariest thing[s]” she’s endured was auditioning for The Voice.

Soundgarden’s Kim Thayil Thinks Chris Cornell Would “Definitely Be Stoked” About Rock Hall Induction
Soundgarden are one of nine new additions to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year, and founding guitarist Kim Thayil feels that the late Chris Cornell would “definitely be stoked” about their imminent induction.
In a new interview with Billboard, the guitarist and songwriter expressed plenty of gratitude towards the Rock Hall and the band’s fans for recognizing their impact after all these years. According to Thayil, Cornell would be just as proud. “He’s the one who convinced me how appreciative the fans and our peers and the Soundgarden community — that includes the people that we work with and work for us — would be about it,” said Thayil.
“He realized how important that was, and he understood that would be important to us because it’s important to people who cared about us and helped us and supported us all along. That’s how I believe Chris would respond to this.

Zach Bryan debuted an unexpected, note-perfect version of Warren Zevon’s “Lawyers, Guns and Money” during his Stagecoach Festival headlining set Friday night, two days before the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced the late singer-songwriter’s long-delayed induction.
Bryan introduced the 1978 track as his “favorite song of all time” midway through his two-hour set, before launching into a faithful rendition backed by a horn section. Bryan and one of his band members, Read Connolly, traded vocals on the song — Connolly’s singing voice turned out to sound quite a bit like Zevon’s.
