Two weeks from now Sdcc 2013 will be winding down, so are there enough horror offerings to entice attendees back to the show for Day 4 (July 21)? With "Supernatural" kicking things off bright and early, we say, "Yes!"
Also on the schedule for Sunday (traditionally the family-themed day of the event) are "Under the Dome," an update on the adaptation of George R.R. Martin's werewolf/Pi/serial killer mashup novella The Skin Trade, a chance to build your own monster, surviving in a post-apocalyptic world, a Neil Gaiman Spotlight panel, a look at what's coming from Diamond Select Toys, a how-to on creating suspenseful, exciting, anxiety-inducing stories, and per usual, a screening of "Buffy the Musical: Once More with Feeling" to close things out.
Since the horror offerings are so light, we've expanded our Day 4 highlights list to cover such topics as the future of sci-fi novels, the 50th anniversary of "Doctor Who,...

Back Stage readers appreciate David H. Lawrence Xvii's acumen and his ability to give students their money's worth. "[He] understands the industry better than anyone," says actor Erica Hanrahan. "When you finish his intensive, you leave with a mini–demo reel." And, she adds, he's more affordable than other voice/voiceover instructors. Stephanie Clayton puts it succinctly: "Great ear for what works best."Since his second Readers' Choice win last year, Lawrence has added a new offering to his roster of voice-oriented classes. It's called "Alone and Afraid in the Dark: The Art of Self-Direction." The syllabus covers what Lawrence calls "the sea change that's occurred in how voice talent get auditions and how they reply to auditions." When he started out as talent in the business, Lawrence would spend hours each workday traveling to his agent's office or to casting directors' offices for voice auditions. Now most such auditions are recorded from.

Chuck was all about finding the next intersect for the team and the process didn’t exactly go as planned once his favorite candidate was murdered in the castle!
Things started out quite well as Chuck (Zachary Levi) led this mission, giving Casey (Adam Baldwin) and Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) assignments as well as putting Morgan (Joshua Gomez) in charge of finding out the candidates’ cultural knowledge. This was of course the most important aspect of a future intersect. Not. But it was certainly the most comedic moment of the episode…that is aside from the missing Kevin Bacon. Above ground at Buy More, Lester (Vik Sahay), Jeff (Scott Krinsky), and Big Mike (Mark Christopher Lawrence) found themselves in a mascot battle against Large Mart led by Marvin (guest star, David H. Lawrence Xvii) and Bacon was in the middle of that tiring battle.

Working as a voiceover artist in New York City can be a heady, exciting experience for an actor. Getting started and getting work can also be rife with frustration, and today's market conditions are a study in contrasts. The voiceover landscape in New York is shifting beneath everyone's feet, but one thing remains constant: Getting work starts with getting an agent.Locating the agencies that take on new clients can be easier than one might think. Even the big agencies will listen to the demos of artists with real talent. As Robyn Stecher, executive vice president of the commercial department at Don Buchwald & Associates, says, "We have both developmental and seasoned talent, with agents that deal with each, and if someone comes in with talent, we will listen to them. We can hear great talent pretty easily."Buchwald & Associates still prefers to have clients use the agency's in-house studios to record auditions.

The 7th annual Atlanta Underground Film Festival is like having four different fests crammed into an exhaustive three days on Aug. 27-29. It’s an outrageous underground fest, an animation festival, a documentary fest and a horror movie festival: The culmination of a month of fests run by Atlanta’s Festival League. There’s tons of short films, documentaries, features and more.
There’s lots of great stuff to recommend, too. On the last night of the fest, there will be a screening of Chris Hansen‘s second feature film, Endings, which tells the touching story of three people spending their last day on Earth together. The film was reviewed on Bad Lit a few months ago. On the short film front, there’s Loretta Hintz‘s wild lesbian bestiality (sort of) tale, The Sheep and the Ranch Hand and two films by the perpetually awesome Neil Ira Needleman, Meeskit...

Not so many years ago, acting classes were fairly uncomplicated affairs. You needed a spacious, well-lit studio. You would add perhaps a few chairs and tables or movable blocks for scene study work. Top that with a teacher who knew what he or she was about, plus students eager to master the craft, and you were set. In some cases, that model still holds. But many, if not most, acting classes have become decidedly more complex.Consider the catalogue of equipment that Los Angeles acting teacher Brad Greenquist (www.bradgreenquist.com) uses in his acting-for-the-camera classes. "I have a Panasonic DVX100A camera that I shoot with, usually on a tripod but sometimes hand-held or with a dolly," he reports. "I have a boom and a boom pole and a Røde mike, and also an Audio-Technica lavaliere system with a portable receiver-mixer, which allows me to use two lavs to...

NBC's Heroes is no stranger to web series, having had internet tie-ins since season 1. But what's unique about this television/new media relationship is that each inception of the online counterpart has continued to push the boundaries in terms of how much crossover occurs between the main series and concurrent web series. It's last installment, Nowhere Man, took a main character from the show, Eric Doyle (played by David H. Lawrence), continued his journey online, and then returned him to the main show to finish out his storyline. In it's latest incarnation, NBC plans to push the envelop even further by creating a number of multi-media elements to the new series including one-minute scenes airing online directly tied to the on-air story, interactive SMS synced to broadcast, a Heroes survival game, graphic novels for mobile devices, and a $25,000 sweepstakes which links the interactive story. The actual storyline of the new...

What happens when a divorcee "acquires" her ex-husband's marketing research company and asks her best friend, a beauty editor-turned-bestselling author, to help her run it? On the surface, it seems almost plausible. But when those two best friends are Cynthia and Pillar, two of the most self-obsessed women in the San Fernando Valley area, then things get interesting…and often hilarious. Especially when you bring in actors such as David H. Lawrence (Heroes, Goodnight Burbank) and Sandeep Parikh (The Guild, co-creator-director The Legend of Neil) to play some of the crazy cast of characters that participate in the focus groups for the horrible products that result from this "acquisition". Groupthink was created by two former cast members of Goodnight Burbank, so the writing-directing-producing-acting team of Angela Espinosa and Wendy Rosoff have a lot of web series experience to bring to the table. I had the pleasure of sitting down and...

Lawrence, best known for playing the puppetmaster Eric Doyle in season three of Heroes, has revealed on Twitter that he has been cast in Lost. He later clarified, "One episode to start, maybe more. Headed to Hawaii Monday, on hold for three weeks." He revealed no more details about his character, but DarkUFO posted a casting breakdown...

Leaving Bliss is the story of Patience Owen, a naive 25 year-old girl who leaves her small hometown to pursue the dream of acting in Hollywood. Five episodes of the dramedy web series have been released with the fifth one bowing last Friday. The series, from first time web series creator Shanna Micko, is well written and acted in its exploration of the themes of finding love and finding your place in life. Patience is played by writer-creator Micko, who is a graduate of the USC Professional Writing Masters program and does sketch comedy with Elders of the Dark Tower.
