Kendrick Lamar was top winner at the 2025 BET Awards, held in Los Angeles Monday night.

The rapper took home the awards for album of the year for Gnx, best male hip-hop artist, video of the year for “Not Like Us” and best collaboration alongside Sza for “Luther.” Lamar also shared the award for video director of the year with his longtime creative partner Dave Free.

Sza and Chris Brown won best female and male R&b/pop artists, respectively. Doechii also won the award for best female hip-hop artist. During the latter’s acceptance speech, the rapper called out President Donald Trump for the “ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order” amid protests against unlawful immigration raids in Los Angeles.

Other winners included Leon Thomas for best new artist, Denzel Washington for best actor and Cynthia Erivo for best actress.

The 2025 BET Awards turns 25 and has a big celebration in store with Kevin Hart set as host.

Hart will present the culture’s biggest night live from the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles.

Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx, Kirk Franklin, and Snoop Dogg will be honored with the 2025 Ultimate Icon Award.

The BET Awards will continue as planned amid Los Angeles citizens protesting and pushing back on Ice raids.

“BET remains committed to the safety of our guests and staff. We are working closely with LAPD and monitoring the situation,” a BET spokesperson said in a statement. “The 2025 BET Awards will take place Monday, June 9th 2025 at 8pm Et/Pt as scheduled.”

Kevin Hart is set to host the 2025 BET Awards from the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles (Dtla), close to where protestors fought against the raids.

On Sunday afternoon, anti-ice protestors took to the streets to make their voices heard against the inhumane raids taking place across Los Angeles County. Demonstrators shut down traffic on the 101 Freeway as things escalated.

For those who decided that studio flicks like "Madame Web" or "Rebel Moon" were among the worst film of 2024, do I have some good news for you: they weren't even close. Some brave critics, or even braver explorers of the deep trenches of 2024's cinematic offerings may have much more dire stories for you, telling tales of Neil Marshall's dumb actioner "The Duchess," or Sean McNamara's embarrassing deification of Ronald Reagan in "Reagan." Have you even heard of the Nick Frost horror sitcom spoof "Krazy House," or the Netflix Biblical drama "Mary"? 

The above-mentioned films all have one thing in common: they were voted among the ten worst films of the year, as gauged by Metacritic. The story in Lumina is bizarre and incoherent, with missing scenes and poor CGI. The editing is terrible, with excessive Adr and a disappointing quality overall. Despite catchy music, Lumina falls short with unpolished visuals and unresolved plot points.

There's a character in Gino McKoy's second feature film, Lumina (2024) , who is meant to serve as comic relief, as indicated by his bucket hat, square glasses, and Alice-like love of descending internet rabbit holes. Unfortunately, George (Ken Lawson) is not funny, and yet I found myself laughing often throughout the first two-thirds of this science fiction horror film. About every 20 minutes in this overlong film, something so absurd and garbled occurs that it snatches an honest belly laugh.

Lumina is an impressively incoherent film.

Talking Strange host Aaron Sagers visited the premiere of the alien abduction inspired Lumina to talk to the creatives behind the sci-fi film, which releases widely in theaters today.

Netflix’s latest acquisition spree includes a splash of sibling synchronicity.

The streaming service on Wednesday announced that that it has acquired the rights to seven classic Black sitcoms, including ’90s hits Sister, Sister and Moesha. Additional titles include Girlfriends, Half & Half, The Parkers, One and One and the first three seasons of The Game.

Exclusive: 25 Words or Less, a syndicated game show hosted and produced by Meredith Vieira, is sold in 75% of the country ahead of its debut this fall, Twentieth Television is reporting as Natpe kicks off in Miami.

Ken Lawson, Svp & General Sales Manager of Broadcast Sale for Twentieth, called the reception to the show “phenomenal” and said it has been sold into 125 markets. While Fox Television Stations are the core at launch, the show has also cleared stations owned by Sinclair, Gray, Hearst, CBS, Scripps, Northwest and Tribune.

The Bernie Mac Show's Kalita Smith joins the sitcom in season two, which premieres in July. The series was quietly renewed for a second season some time ago and those episodes have been shot and are currently being edited.

In The Cut was created by Bentley Kyle Evans who produces with Trenten Gumbs, both of whom are having a pretty good day. The duo produces Family Time, which was also renewed, today.
