I’m not ashamed to admit that, as a die-hard horror fan, there are still some gaps in my movie-watching history. The original Rabid Dogs, directed by the Italian legend that is Mario Bava, is one such film (something I should correct given the film has recently had the Arrow Video treatment). It’s a situation that meant I was headed into this redux with no prior knowledge of the original.

Now that English Canada has made a real war drama (Passchendaele), Quebec will follow with a war drama of its own. In fact, La cité, Kim Nguyen's latest film, will hit Quebecker theatres on April 9, 2010.

The film takes place in 1885 in Algeria at a time when it was a French colony. Dr. Max Orswell (Jean-Marc Barr) just went through a war that lasted 8 years. Now that the war is over, he's to be taken to a port by a caravan, because he plans to go back to France. However, that caravan doesn't come. Besides, the village Max lives in is struck by a strange plague and is forced to be isolated.

This war drama was produced with a budget of $4.8 million Cdn and it's a co-production between Canada, Switzerland and Tunisia. Moreover, it was shot in Tunisia and Italy.

The 33rd Annual Montreal World Film Festival will be paying tribute to Canadian actor Pierre Lebeau. The Prix Jutra best actor winner in 2003 will be honored with the Grand Prize of the Americas.

Wff president Serge Losique said, "Pierre Lebeau is an exceptional actor whose career has left a profound mark on contemporary Quebec culture and I am very proud to honor him with the Festival's highest award, the Grand Prize of the Americas."

The festival will show his latest film, Roger Cantin's "Un Cargo pour l"Afrique." It will receive its world premiere in the competition during the Montreal World Film Festival's run from August 27 to September 7.

Lebeau won the Prix Jutra 2003 for best actor for his titular role in "Seraphin, un home et son peche." His film credits include "Bon Cop, Bad Cop" and "Les Boys" among others.
