Evita drama among series highlights at Iberseries & Platino Industria co-production forum

A coming-of-age drama about Argentinian icon Eva Peron and two Spanish comedy dramas, Band Of Buffoons and A Series Of People, are among the stand out series projects presented at the fourth edition of the Iberseries & Platino Industria Co-Production Forum in Madrid this week.

Evita Behind The Icon is a coming-of-age drama about Argentina’s former first lady. Described by its creators as a “punk and justice-driven” Evita, the series is produced by Argentina’s Kapow, with Paula Hernández directing.

Band Of Buffoons is a mix of black comedy and drama and is produced by veteran César Benítez’s Plano a Plano.

Chile’s Rizoma and Atlanta-Based Condeco Launch Rizco Content Sales (Exclusive)

In a bid to tap the burgeoning international interest in content from Latin America and Spain, Chile’s Rizoma, run by Sebastian Freund, and Ángel Zambrano’s Atlanta-based Condeco have launched international sales company, Rizco Content Sales.

The new sales agency follows their successful partnership in the international sales of the Chilean miniseries “Cecilia Incomparable,” based on the life of Chilean singer Cecilia, and the Argentine-Chilean film “Salvajes,” both licensed to Prime Video.

Unveiled during the 4th Iberseries & Platino Industria in Madrid (Oct. 1-4), it will be based in both Santiago and Atlanta.

By leveraging their deep experience and connections in the industry, Freund and Zambrano also plan to to participate in the co-production of film and series projects from their early stages.

“Sebastián and I share a passion for telling stories that resonate with audiences around the world. The content being produced in Latin America and Spain is increasingly gaining international attention.

Argentina’s Natalia Smirnoff and Alberto Lecchi and Money Heist’s Alejandro Bazzano are among the directors with projects selected for Iberseries & Platino Industria’s Co-production and Financing Forum, which is takeing place in Madrid from October 1-4.

The fourth edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria, an industry meeting point for the Spanish and Latin American cinema and TV sectors, will host more than 2,000 professionals from 50 countries this year.

The Coproduction and Financing Forum features 10 film and 11 TV series projects.

They include veteran Argentinian filmmaker Alberto Lecchi’s A Distant Place, with an attached cast that includes Ernesto Alterio and Soledad Villamil.

Chile’s Sebastián Freund of Rizoma Films and Argentine thesps Ernesto Alterio (“The Passenger”) and Soledad Villamil (“The Secret in Their Eyes”) have boarded the upcoming feature by Argentine filmmaker Alberto Lecchi, “A Distant Place” (“Un lugar lejano”).

Rizoma Films joins lead producer Twins Latin Films of Argentina and co-producers Filmakers Monkeys (Spain) in the drama that participates in the Iberseries & Platino Industria Co-Production Forum in Madrid.

Penned by Gerardo Pranteda, the story revolves around a pianist and a history teacher as they struggle for a second chance at love before a shattering illness impacts the musician’s grip on reality.

“We are excited to make a film that shows how love, memory, and bonds can offer comfort and hope even in the most difficult moments. It also addresses frontotemporal dementia, a condition rarely explored in cinema, providing an empathetic and sensitive perspective,” said Lorena Quevedo, CEO & producer at Twins Latin Films.

'Estomago' wins top prize at Valladolid
Madrid -- Italian-Argentine co-production "Estomago," directed by Marcos Jorge, walked away with the 50,000 euro top prize, the Golden Spike, while Alberto Lecchi's "El Fracaso," took the 25,000 euro Silver Spike as the Valladolid International Film Festival wrapped Sunday.

Maria Heiskanen earned best actress honor for "Maria Larsson's Everlasting Moments," which saw Mischa Gavrjusjov and Jan Troell win best photography.

Joao Miguel shared the best actor award with Unax Ugalde, for their respective roles in and "Estomago" and "Buena Nueva."

Henrik Ruben Genz's "Terribly Happy" won both the best music award and the best script award.

Valladolid ran Oct. 24-Nov. 1 under the guidance of new artistic director Javier Angulo.
