Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes look at Kelley Jones’ Variant Cover for Host Mortem Graphic Novel
Image
Host Mortem, a "tongue-in-cheek, time travel metafiction mystery" by Kevin Shinick, is now on Kickstarter: "Kevin Shinick used to have all the answers. Before he was an acclaimed comic writer on titles like W.E.B. of Spider-Man and The Flash, before he was an Emmy Award-winning writer on Robot Chicken, before he was a bestselling novelist (Star Wars: Force Collector), before he was an Annie award-winning producer (Mad), Kevin Shinick had all the answers — as the TV gameshow host of Where In Time Is Carmen Sandiego?

Now Shinick is writing Host Mortem, an all-new tongue-in-cheek, time travel metafiction mystery in which he appears (as himself!), along with Greg Lee (the host of Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?). When the two former gameshow hosts are transported to the year 1947 by a time portal at Comic-Con, they find themselves enmeshed in a murder mystery involving Humphrey Bogart’s legendary noir film The Big Sleep.

Exclusive: Host Mortem! Launches On Kickstarter, Bringing Together "Carmen Sandiego" Hosts For A Noir Time Travel Adventure
Image
Two stars of the beloved Carmen Sandiego franchise are uniting in an exciting new project that puts a delightful twist on their most recognizable roles. In the new graphic novel Host Mortem, Where In Time Is Carmen San Diego? host Kevin Shinick and Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego? host Greg Lee find themselves at the center of a classic noir Hollywood mystery after being transported back to 1947.

Screen Rant is honored to share the Kickstarter link for the project, along with an exclusive first look of the cover for Host Mortem written by Kevin Shinick, with art by Damien Torres which appears set to be a playfully meta take on Hollywood history.

1990s kids nostalgic for Carmen Sandiego will find this to be an exciting alternative to a reboot of the children's series, as the series seems designed to evoke the spirit of the fan-favorite franchise, while carving...

Ray Romano May Be Responsible for Giving Us Joe Rogan
Image
It’s part of TV comedy history that Joe Rogan replaced an actor named Greg Lee in the sitcom NewsRadio, making Rogan a household name and setting the stage for Fear Factor and eventual world domination. It would be easy to point an angry finger at Lee, who actually starred in the NewsRadio pilot, for not holding onto the job that would give Rogan a fame foothold. But there was a third comic actor who was cast before Lee. And if Ray Romano could have done a better job of impressing producers, we’d live in a very different timeline.

Yep, it was the future Everybody Loves Raymond star who was first cast as the electrician on NewsRadio. Romano auditioned and got the part in 1994 — only to get fired two days into rehearsals.

What was the problem? Producers felt like Romano’s sleepy line delivery was slowing down the show’s rapid-fire comic pace.

Greg Lee, Hepcat Singer, Dead at 53
Image
Greg Lee, co-lead singer of the California ska band Hepcat, has died at 53 years old.

His partner Amanda Becker revealed the news in a social media post, writing that Lee had suffered a “massive brain aneurysm and cardiac arrest” at their home in Paramount, California on Sunday (March 17th) before passing away in the hospital on Tuesday.

“I found him on the floor unconscious and not breathing,” Becker recalled. “I immediately called for 911 and the first responders were through the door within moments. They were able to regain his pulse, but he was not able to breathe on his own. He has been on life support in the Nicu ever since and has not regained consciousness. The neurologist let us know his case is very rare and that the moment was swift. He did not suffer.”

Becker continued, “He has touched the lives and hearts of so many people all...

‘SNL’ Introduces New Game Show: ‘Where In the World is Kellyanne Conway?’ (Video)
Saturday Night Live (1975)
“SNL” brought back the 1990s kids’ game show “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” in an attempt to figure out what’s happened to Donald Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway. Recreating the show’s colorful aesthetic, the show asked what’s happened to the adviser, who hasn’t been seen on television for the last seven weeks. The sketch even featured a recreation of male acapella group Rockapella, famous for singing the “Carmen Sandiego” theme song, featuring host Chris Pine, and brought back original host Greg Lee. Time to find Kellyanne. #SNLLiveCoastToCoast pic.twitter.com/RnpKNBVAod — Saturday Night Live (@nbcsnl...

Video: 10 Reasons Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? Was the Best Educational Show Ever
There's a long history of grown-ups trying to make educational materials entertaining. However, there's also a long history of most of these efforts turning out to be heavy on the education, light on the fun. It's a tough one for adults to wrap their heads around, but they're not always the best at predicting what kids will take to and what they'll sniff out as just being homework gussied up like playtime.

One exception? The various Carmen Sandiego games. Next to Oregon Trail, they were often the best possible use for a school computer back in the day. And in...

Greatest TV Pilots: Newsradio ‘Pilot’
Newsradio, “Pilot”

Written by Paul Simms

Directed by James Burrows

Original air date: March. 21, 1995 on NBC

As far as sitcoms go, Newsradio is a diamond in the rough. Despite a not-so-unique workplace setting, the show successfully combines wit and physical comedy, without ever feeling dull or predictable. It has the kind of quick, self-sustaining energy that we love about sitcoms, and it all began with the pilot episode. Of course, every series begins with a pilot, but with Newsradio, the first episode never feels forced or stiff in the way many others have. Often times, sitcoms struggle with comedic timing in their first few outings. Featuring a veteran cast, boasting a strong background in comedy (Dave Foley, Kids in the Hall; Phil Hartman, Saturday Night Live; Andy Dick, The Ben Stiller Show), Newsradio hits its stride right from the get-go.

The episode opens with Dave (Dave Foley) arriving at Wnyx,...
