The widow and daughter of deceased grunge icon Kurt Cobain have accelerated their efforts to block the release of photos depicting Cobain’s 1994 suicide, contending that their release would be “highly offensive” and would cause “substantial irreparable harm” to Love and Frances Bean. In court papers obtained by TheWrap, Cobain and Frances Bean also contend that the release of the photos to conspiracy theorist Richard Lee, who asserts that Cobain did not commit suicide, is “not of legitimate concern to the public.” “There is no genuine issue of material fact that releasing the ‘death-scene’ photographs of Kurt Cobain would sustainably and.

In this day and age, footballers are often seen to be style icons and it can be argued that some of them care about their appearance of the field just as much as their ability on it.
However, there’s definitely been the occasional oddball who’s not quite content with the safety of the short back and sides look. Certain players have tried to – key word being tried – pull off a more controversial look and it’s safe to say not all are able to get away with such crazy ideas.
Some may argue that it was the style of the time, others that it’s their personal preference, but one thing that is for sure is they were, and still are, a bit of an eye sore.

In the least surprising development of transfer deadline day, West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace has confirmed once more that Saido Berahino isn’t for sale at any price, as reported by Sky Sports News HQ.
Obviously there is still time before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm, but at this stage it would surely take something major for Peace to let his most valuable asset leave to a relegation rival.
Sky Sports say Peace is confident that they will not see a drop in valuation for the England forward, even if he continues not to play presumably and they clearly have no financial worries if they’re turning down more than £20m for a player who has largely sat on the bench recently.

Papiss Cisse will undergo an operation on his groin injury in Paris, reports the Chronicle.
This will prolong his absence from the Newcastle first team with early estimates suggesting he could now be out for up to five weeks. That would likely see him miss 7 or 8 games, a huge run for Newcastle to be without their number 9 in their fight against relegation.
Cisse being on the sidelines heightens United head coach Steve McClaren’s urgency to purchase a new striker. Big question marks still surround Aleksandar Mitrovic’s ability to consistently put the ball in the back of the net, leaving only Ivan Toney (picked up from the lower leagues in the summer and severely lacking experience at this level) and Emmanuel Riviere (who has been sidelined through injury all season to date and had a torrid season last campaign with only one, scuffed, league...

After the year Newcastle United have had on the pitch, you would have been forgiven for thinking that we’d be hard pressed to find five individual performances that were worth writing home about.
Despite Steve McClaren, his new backroom team, and over £50 million worth of signings heralding what we all thought was a new dawn at St James’ Park, Newcastle followed a worrying trend all year long that doesn’t look like leaving the squad any time soon.
There’s a losing mentality around NE1 at the moment. It’s solely in Mike Ashley’s hands whether that leaves or not. You don’t need me to tell you how he can do that…

If there’s one thing we can gleam from Steve McClaren inexplicably fielding the same 11 on Monday just two days after a gruelling 90 minutes against Everton, it’s that he doesn’t believe he has an actual squad of players at Newcastle United he can trust.
The game after the boxing day fixtures is historically the match where you would usually rotate but it saw the likes of Florian Thauvin, Siem De Jong, Cheick Tiote and Yoan Gouffran stationary on the bench at the first whistle, and you just have to wonder if McClaren has given up on anyone outside his first 11-13 men.
Against Arsenal today, the safe bet would once again be on Newcastle being unchanged though McClaren is forced into one move with a hamstring injury seeing Vurnon Anita sidelined, with Tiote expected to be his replacement. Rob Elliott is also a huge...

It was a strange atmosphere prior to kick off at St James’ Park as a deflated Newcastle United faced a freshly blown up Chelsea.
The Magpies’ pre-match atmospheric video broke a deathly silence that swiftly returned upon its completion. The stadium announcer’s war-cry of “Lets Make Some Noise For Newcastle United” was met with a eery knee-pat, resembling the latter stages of a charity raffle.
Presumably Newcastle’s defeat against Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup had spooked the Geordie fan-base but the Magpies’ thrilling start turned up the volume as Steve McClaren’s 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 formation with Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez up front gave Jose Mourinho’s side some early problems.
Kevin Mbabu’s fearless, energetic and unfazed workmanship (or a severe mid-week telling off) lifted the whole team and made them unrecognisable from the side (and support...

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly made a £15 million deadline bid for Newcastle’s Ayoze Perez but the striker is focused on improving at the Magpies.
The club swiftly confirmed that any link with Spurs or “anyone else” was “total rubbish” and that Perez will be staying put on Tyneside.
The Spanish forward scored seven Premier goals last season after moving from Tenerife for just £1.5 million. Originally signed for the future, Perez broke into Alan Pardew first team set up and made 37 league appearances for the club.
The 22-year-old is hoping to improve this season and continue to develop at Newcastle and described his time at the club as “like a dream”.
Speaking to the Shields Gazette, the player said:
“It’s harder because I had a good season last year, and I have to keep going and improve and maybe do better if I can.
“That’s what I want to do.

The French side are the latest big-name club linked with a move for the Magpies midfielder who has been linked with a number of top sides all summer.

Remy Cabella moved to Marseille earlier this month in a transfer deal that brought Florian Thauvin to Newcastle United.
Thauvin scored a goal inside 180 seconds of his full debut yesterday, provided three assists and then left the field after 65 minutes to a St James’ Park standing ovation as Newcastle beat Northampton 4-1 in the Capital One Cup second round.
Cabella also enjoyed his first game for his new club, grabbing an assist as Om beat Troyes 6-0 at home.
Speaking to Rmc Sport the former Magpie has given his first interview since leaving the club and spoke highly of his £13 million replacement.
He said:
“I think he [Thauvin] can win. He will play left midfield or right midfield and that is the position where the coach was looking for someone.
“He has the qualities to win but it will take a little time as it takes time to adapt to England.

It follows three single twenty-something gay boys as they navigate a thriving out and proud community filled with its own tribes of twinks, bears, ricequeens and gymbunnies. This series is not only sassy and hilarious, but tackles issues of sexual racism that are absolutely prevalent in the gay community.

Miranda Lambert has made some impressive leaps and bounds in the television industry, going from her acting debut in an episode of Law & Order: Svu to executive producing her first series in less than a year. And what’s even more impressive than that is the show she’s created has had a good amount of interest shown in it from a couple of big networks. Originally, the series was to be picked up by ABC Family, but now NBC has bought the light drama, which is inspired by Lambert’s life growing up in Lindale, TX. For someone who’s mostly known for her country music career, I think you’ll all be surprised at the potential gem she’s created.
According to Deadline, Lambert’s project found its way to NBC thanks to the relationship the network has with her husband, Blake Shelton, who is also an executive producer on the project.

Exclusive: Miranda Lambert is probably the hottest female country singer at the moment after winning four Academy of Country Music awards last night. Now I hear the 27-year-old is venturing into scripted series with an hourlong project at ABC Family based on her childhood, which is being executive produced by Kapital Entertainment. Lambert, along with her younger brother, grew up in Lindale, TX. Her father, Richard Lee "Rick" Lambert, a retired police officer, became a private investigator in partnership with her mother, Beverly "Bev" June Lambert. If there's one word that's not used all that often to describe anything Nicki Minaj does, it's "understated."
Yes, from her vast collection of neon wigs to her closet full of skintight outfits, Nicki is rarely, if ever, subtle. But in her upcoming video for "Right Thru Me," all of that has changed. Gone are the Kool-Aid accoutrements and Harajuku Barbie getups, replaced instead with a side of the rapper most of her fans have never seen before: a sensitive, softer one.
And that was very much the plan, as Minaj told MTV News when we visited the set of "Right Thru Me" last month in Los Angeles. Because unlike her previous singles, this one gets downright personal.

Kandahar Break, a new independent film written and directed by David Whitney, offers a love story as old as Romeo and Juliet at the core of a more contemporary thriller, every scene of which is packed with suspense. We are at first confronted with the stark landscape of Afghanistan: forbidding, dry, lonely, and frightening. The drama takes place in 1999 -- pre 9/11, before this strange and foreign place had assumed a large hold on our collective psyche. But this rough, mountainous region does have such a hold on us today, so the story becomes larger and scarier as each scene unfolds. Richard Lee, played by Shaun Dooley, is a member of a team of British engineers who are trying to find and destroy land mines that spot the dangerous countryside. But working for the Taliban, whose stringent rules restricting the...

Finding enough of this green stuff is not the problem. When Proposition 19, California’s pot-legalization initiative, hits the ballot in November, it has the potential to send thousands of voters to the polls—but only if they know about it. That means a TV campaign, which would cost $10 million. But Prop 19 doesn’t have that kind of money! Richard Lee, the initiative’s sponsor, himself donated “$1.5 million of the $1.9 million raised through June,” the L.A. Times reports, and other investors have been slow to get in on the action. Not even financial powerhouse George Soros, who “has invested about $3 million to liberalize California’s drug laws,” has contributed this time around.

Eminem's Recovery

It doesn't matter if you're a new kid on the block like Drake or a veteran like Eminem, chances are your new album is bound to leak early at some point. Marshall Mathers is the latest to fall to the leak plague, as his upcoming Recovery hit the Internet on Monday, two weeks before its June 22 official release date, and spread like wildfire.
Fan forums immediately blew up with quick-take reviews on the rapper's second album in as many years, raving about the many different sounds Slim Shady tries on over the course of the disc. The opening track, "Cold Wind Blows," finds Em taking aim at some of his favorite targets, viciously daring haters to take him on while dropping references to Elton John, Michael Vick, Aquaman, Michael J. Fox and Mariah Carey before dipping into a sing-songy chorus,...

Breaking down windows with his bare hands, jumping into canyons and learning to fly, surviving a walk in Newark: such are the superpowers of Eminem in the Richard Lee-directed clip to his "Not Afraid." The song explains his years-long struggle with drugs and the battles of fame, which translates into ambiguous visual metaphors of standing on the ledge of a tall building, a creepy hall of mirror, the ilk. Em puts on his serious acting face for his scenes of confusion and then ultimately his triumphs, as he bobs and gestures through dark, weird scenes on Market Street and a dirty...

Eminem shoots "Not Afraid" in Newark, NJ

Newark, New Jersey — Imagine you're walking down your block and somebody tells you that Eminem is filming his new video in your neighborhood. Imagine, even further, that you live in a tough city like Newark, which is near New York but doesn't exactly see that kind of high-profile action every day.
But of course, in one of the main sections of Eminem's just-released video for "Not Afraid" (from his forthcoming Recovery LP), Slim Shady walks down Market Street in downtown Newark among some locals.
"It was a month or three weeks ago," Newark native Kyro "Ro" Inman, who appeared as an extra in the video, told MTV News. "I was walking [on Market Street] and I asked,...

Eminem's "Not Afraid"
Photo: Interscope
Eminem's video for "Not Afraid," the first offering from his June 22 release Recovery, has premiered.
Directed by Richard Lee, the video starts with Eminem standing on a rooftop ledge that overlooks New Jersey. As he says his opening lines, the clip shifts to a basement, where Slim Shady is rhyming on the steps, then standing.
The video goes back to the rooftop, where Em goes closer to the edge. The shot could be taken as a metaphor for his life. Last year, the Grammy Award winner very openly told his story of being in a drug-induced haze for years. He said his addiction was so horrific, he almost overdosed and died.
Just like in real life, Em stops short of going off the ledge in the video. Instead, he...

A funny thing happened on the way to the global economic meltdown: The weak U.S. dollar got stronger.
But as the greenback flexes its muscles for the first time in nearly a decade, the U.S. movie industry is bracing for slimmer revenue as foreign currencies shrink in dollar terms when repatriated to the U.S. Major studio number crunchers are busy handing down new exchange rates for use in converting boxoffice revenue.
Studio year-by-year overseas boxoffice comparisons will be adversely affected if the strength of the dollar persists through 2008.
In 2007, the dollar fell 6.8% against global currencies, according to Reuters, and if trends persist, any such currency "bonus" will be missing this year. Last year, the favorable currency exchange helped pave the way for a record $9.4 billion in overseas grosses for the major studios.
Since the end of June, the U.S. dollar has staged a dramatic comeback. Of...
