How Old Are Anne Hathaway & Nicholas Galitzine? The Idea Of You's Age-Gap Explained
Image
Nicholas Galitzine and Anne Hathaway star in the new age-gap romance movie The Idea of You. The real-life stars have an age gap of 12 years as opposed to the 16-year gap in the movie. The movie explores the challenges of an age-gap romance under intense media scrutiny.

Amazon's The Idea of You stars Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine as lovers whose age gap hinders their public romance, but the actors' real-life age difference is a few years off from their characters. The 2024 film is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Robinne Lee, who asserts that the book isn't directly connected to One Direction or Harry Styles, despite their similarities. The Idea of You has a strong rom-com pedigree as it was directed by Michael Showalter, who previously helmed the movie The Big Sick, while Hathaway and Galitzine have experience in the genre.

5 The Love Interest of ‘The Idea of You’ Wasn’t Based on Harry Styles

Speaking of fan fiction, The Idea of You has been advertised as such because author Robinne Lee once mentioned being inspired by a Harry Styles music video, but “I don't consider it fan fiction at all,” she said. “Harry was one of multiple people who went into creating Hayes Campbell,” including Prince Harry, Eddie Redmayne, some of her exes, and her husband. Honestly, more people need to write fan fiction about their own spouses.

Netflixs A Family Affair Did 1 Thing Better Than The Idea Of You
Image
A Family Affair explores family dynamics better than The Idea of You. A Family Affair's "meet cute" is more believable than The Idea of You. The Idea of You ranks higher due to better critical reception, performances, and script.

The career trajectory of a Hollywood star never lies in stone, as versatility marks a key trait for ensuring continued success. Going by this mantra, Anne Hathaway has come a long way from her roots as a young actress in 1999’s Get Real. However, her march to the top was not a solitary move, and she has found several inspirations along the way.

Remarkably, one of those celebrated stars on her list is none other than Tom Cruise, even if it is less of an indirect influence and more of a coincidental comparison. The Idea of You movie improved by aging Izzy from 12 to 16, giving her a more mature and relatable personality. Izzy's response to Hayes and Solen's relationship in the movie is more understanding and supportive compared to the book. Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzines romantic comedy, The Idea of You, made a change to a major book character, and it made the movie better. Based on the book by Robinne Lee of the same name, The Idea of You has been receiving great reviews because of its honest portrayal of a complex romantic relationship. Dont Forget To Watch Nicholas Galitzines 90% Rotten Tomatoes Movie From Last Year After The Idea Of You

Galitzine excelled in rom-coms like The Idea of You and Cinderella. Galitzine's highest-rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes is Bottoms, a satirical comedy praised by critics. Bottoms showcased Galitzine's range with a comedic role, different from his typical romantic and dramatic roles.

The Idea Of You has become one of Prime Videos most successful releases in 2024, and its a great reminder to watch Nicholas Galitzines 2023 hit with a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. Nicholas Galitzines acting career began in 2014 with the movie The Beat Beneath My Feet, and got his first major role in 2019 in the Netflix series Chambers, where he played Elliott Lefevre. In 2020, Galitzine played Timmy in Zoe Lister-Jones The Craft: Legacy, and he has been pretty much unstoppable since then, starring in different projects.

Galitzines popularity grew with his role as Prince Robert in Prime Videos Cinderella, Luke in Netflixs Purple Hearts, and Prince Henry in Prime Videos Red,...

‘The Idea of You’ Is a Massive Streaming Success, but Theaters Helped Get It There
Image
Oscar-winning producer Cathy Schulman knows her way around a theatrical release. From “Crash” to “The Woman King,” the long-time Hollywood heavy-hitter has wide-ranging taste that’s earned her both a Best Picture win and millions of box office bucks. But as the theatrical landscape shifts — heck, as the entire entertainment industry shifts — Schulman is staying nimble. These days, that means something that would have sounded crazy a decade ago: a massive hit that goes straight to streaming.

That’s the case with Schulman’s latest, the Michael Showalter-directed Amazon MGM Studios smash “The Idea of You,” a sexy rom-com-dram based on Robinne Lee’s bestselling novel and starring Anne Hathaway and rising star Nicholas Galitzine. In just two weeks on Prime Video, the film has smashed up all sorts of streaming records, handily proving that people do want to watch at home, they will turn out for a streaming-only release,...

Michael Showalter’s ‘The Idea Of You’ On Track For Amazon MGM’s Biggest Rom-Com Debut
Image
Michael Showalter’s The Idea of You, starring Nicholas Galitzine and Anne Hathaway, is on track to command Amazon MGM Studios’ biggest ever debut for a rom-com with nearly 50 million viewers globally in its first two weeks on Prime Video.

Amazon declined to comment on the metric used to arrive at this number. But Mike Hopkins, Worldwide Head of Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios, made the announcement on stage during the studio’s inaugural Upfronts presentation on Tuesday.

“The extraordinary reception of The Idea of You has been thrilling—even leading up to the release, with its record-breaking trailer views to its chart-topping soundtrack,” said Julie Rapaport, Head of Film, Production and Development at Amazon MGM Studios. “And now, audiences have truly fallen for this film, and we could not be prouder of our stars Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, the brilliant vision of Michael Showalter, and the rest of...

‘The Idea of You’ Nabs Nearly 50 Million Viewers in Two Weeks, Marking No. 1 Rom-Com Debut for Amazon MGM
Image
Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine’s age-gap romantic adventure “The Idea of You” attracted nearly 50 million worldwide viewers in its first two weeks on Prime Video, becoming Amazon MGM’s No. 1 romantic-comedy debut of all time, according to the studio.

As Amazon did not detail exactly what counts as a “view,” it should be noted that streaming viewership numbers self-reported by platforms still come with many caveats. Some brands solely report total minutes or hours watched, while others divide that total by each projects runtime to arrive at an estimated number of views. Streamers almost never disclose the exact number of viewers who watched the entirety of their titles, and as Amazon did not define their metric regarding “The Idea of You,” it is possible that a significant portion of the 50 million reported viewers only watched a short piece of the movie.

“The Idea of You,” which premiered at SXSW...

The Biggest Differences Between The Idea of You's Book and Movie
Image
Solne's character in the movie is portrayed as more youthful and approachable compared to the book, showcasing a strong mother-daughter bond. In the movie, Solne's ex-husband Dan and his girlfriend Eva are realistically portrayed, highlighting Dan's faults and Eva's eventual realization. The movie benefits from raising Izzy's age, allowing for more profound relationships and conversations, ultimately leading to a hopeful ending for Solne and Hayes.

In 2017, author Robinne Lee published a contemporary romance novel, which was picked up by Amazon MGM Studios and turned into a Prime Video original movie of the same name, The Idea of You, starring Hollywood icon Anne Hathaway and relative newcomer Nicolas Galitzine. With the central characters consisting of the 40-year-old gallery owner Solne and the 24-year-old boy band member Hayes, whose sexual tensions are shooting through the roof from their first encounter onward, The Idea of You has already stirred up a whirlwind of...

‘The Idea of You’ Author Robinne Lee on Anne Hathaway’s ‘Rocky’ Moment and How She Aims to Inspire Black Women Authors
Image
Back in 2017, Robinne Lee dropped by a local L.A. news station for an interview promoting her role in “Fifty Shades Darker,” the second film in the steamy series based on books by E.L. James.

“You’re venturing out a little bit now with a new novel…” the Kcal anchor said to Lee, whose filmography already included “Deliver Us From Eva,” “Hitch” and “13 Going on 30,” teeing the actor up to mention her career pivot. “I have a novel coming out this spring called ‘The Idea of You,’” Lee replied, grinning.

The premise was unique: A divorced mother and art gallery owner, living in L.A. on the precipice of turning 40, takes her daughter to a concert meet-and-greet and the 20-year-old lead singer of the band falls in love with her. The story, Lee explained, was “as much about a love story complicated by celebrity and the underbelly of...

The Idea Of You Movie Changing Hayes Campbell's Age Avoided A More Divisive Detail From The Book
Image
Aging up Hayes Campbell for The Idea of You movie makes his romance with Solne more digestible for viewers. Hayes Campbell's character age change was influenced by actor Nicholas Galitzine's real-life age. The novel's controversial 20-year age gap between Solne and Hayes is a little less pronounced in the film adaptation.

Based on Robinne Lee's novel of the same name, The Idea of You makes a few key changes to the source material, including the age of musician and love interest Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine). Allegedly based on Harry Styles fanfiction, The Idea of You sees divorced gallery owner Solne Marchand (Anne Hathaway) accompany her daughter, Izzy (Ella Rubin), to Coachella. At the desert-set music festival, the 40-year-old Solne has a chance meeting with Hayes, the lead singer of the "so seventh grade" boy band August Moon. Intrigued by Solne's down-to-earth energy, Hayes finds her LA gallery.

How a Tag Heuer Watch Helps Propel the Love Story in ‘The Idea Of You’
Image
[This story contains spoilers from Prime Video’s film The Idea Of You.]

In the new romantic movie The Idea of You, Nicholas Galitzine — playing Hayes Campbell, a One Direction-like lead singer of a boy band — falls hard for Anne Hathaway’s art gallery owner character, Solène.

Over the course of the new couple’s relationship ups and downs, a watch plays a surprisingly prominent role, becoming a major plot point in the film.

Early on, after Solène — a single mom who’s more than a decade older than Hayes — tells him, “I can’t do this. Because you’re you and I’m me and we just don’t fit,” the lovestruck singer surreptitiously leaves the watch he’s wearing on a table in her house before he departs. “We’ll see,” he says.

From there on out, the watch is sometimes worn by her (when things are going well) and then at other times by him (usually...

Every August Moon Song In The Idea Of You, Ranked Worst To Best

The movie The Idea of You features multiple original songs by the fictional boy band August Moon. August Moon's One Direction influence is showcased in some of their best songs including "Closer." Other songs like "Guard Down," while good, don't necessarily match the tone of the movie.

The Idea of You features quite a few original songs by the fictional boy band August Moon. This stems naturally from the story, which is based on the novel of the same name by Robinne Lee and follows the love affair between Harry Styles-inspired singer Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine) and divorced single mother Solne Marchand (Anne Hathaway).

Costume designer Jacqueline Demeterio didn’t have to look much further than her own Silver Lake-residing friends when pulling inspiration for Anne Hathaway’s Sólene in “The Idea of You.”

In the buzzy new rom-com, Hathaway stars as a 40 year-old art gallery owner and divorcee who falls in love with the 24 year-old heartthrob singer of the boy band August Moon, played by Nicholas Galitzine. Aside from the whirlwind age-gap romance, first depicted in Robinne Lee’s 2017 novel of the same name, the film’s most compelling aspects are the high-fashion ensembles worn by both Sólene and Galitizine’s Hayes. And as the pair jets from Coachella to New York to Paris, the clothes also ground their fantastical affair in reality.

Image
The Idea of You is a solid rom-com starring Anne Hathaway, reminiscent of a classic from 1999. Similar to Notting Hill, the film focuses on a famous person falling for a normal individual. While not as great as its predecessor, The Idea of You offers a modern take on romance with strong performances.

Hayes is older in the movie compared to the book, making the age gap between him and Solne less controversial. Is August Moon A Real Band? What To Know About The Idea Of You's Boyband
Image
The Idea of You's August Moon is a fictional band but has real songs on streaming platforms. August Moon bears similarities to One Direction, but Robinne Lee claims they aren't based on the real boy band. Nicholas Galitzine actually sang in The Idea of You.

The Idea of You's central love story is somewhat complicated by the fact that one of them is the lead singer of a mega-popular band called August Moon (therefore bringing unwanted attention to Nicholas Galitzine's Hayes and Anne Hathaway's Solne's relationship), and after watching the movie, some wonder whether the music group is real or fictional. The 2024 romantic comedy/drama, directed by Michael Showalter and written by Showalter and Jennifer Westfeldt, is based on Robinne Lee's book of the same name. As mentioned, the film revolves around the romance between Hayes and Solne, who share a 16-year age difference.

Aside from Hayes, the August...

‘The Idea of You’ Author Says She Was ‘Not Involved at All’ with Film Adaptation: ‘The Book Is the Book, and the Movie Is the Movie’
Image
[Editor’s note: The following story contains spoilers for “The Idea of You.”]

Don’t you hate it when Hollywood changes the ending to your favorite book when adapting it into a film? The process is sacrilege to some readers, but it can often lead to films improving upon their source material. The latest bestseller to see its ending changed is “The Idea of You” — and a recent piece by IndieWire’s Erin Strecker endorses the changes screenwriters Michael Showalter and Jennifer Westfeldt made in adapting Robinne Lee’s 2017 novel.

However, it turns out these changes, well regarded as they are by some, did not receive input from Lee herself. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the author said she “was not involved at all in the adaptation.”

“I have not even spoken to [director] Michael [Showalter] yet,” Lee said. “But I’m looking forward to meeting him, so no, I haven’t spoken to him about any changes. My...

‘The Idea Of You’ Author On Why She Regrets Saying Harry Styles Inspired Lead Character: “It’s Being Used As Clickbait”
Image
Robinne Lee, the author of The Idea of You, regrets initially stating that the story was inspired by Harry Styles.

In a new interview, Lee explains why the fictional British boy band member, Hayes Campbell, was not just inspired by the former One Direction member after many have compared it to writing fan fiction.

“I don’t consider it fan fiction at all,” Lee said in an interview with EW. “Harry was one of multiple people who went into creating Hayes Campbell — he was the only one in a British boy band that was current at the time, I guess, and so that’s what people have latched onto. It’s unfortunate because it’s being used as clickbait, and when I’m writing for Hayes, I’m not picturing Harry Styles.”

Lee said that the fictional character, played by Nicholas Galitzine in the Prime Video film, us a combination of many real-life people.
