30 Best Action Movies Ever: A Definitive History from Samurai to Super Spies
Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Olivia Morris, N.T. Rama Rao Jr., and Ram Charan in RRR (2022)
The action film is our modern campfire story, a universal language spoken in shattered glass and exquisitely choreographed fisticuffs. Its appeal is primal, tapping into a shared human fascination with kinetic energy and high-stakes problem-solving. But in a genre so saturated with spectacle, a crucial question emerges: What makes a good action movie truly immortal? What separates a fleeting sugar rush of adrenaline from a film that endures?

This list is an attempt to answer that, an exploration of the best action movies guided by a clear set of action movie criteria.

First, there must be character-driven action. The violence isn’t just noise; it’s narrative. Every punch is a paragraph, every chase scene a chapter in a desperate protagonist’s story. The chaos must have a human anchor. This is tied directly to the necessity of tangible stakes, where the threat feels crushingly real, whether it’s the...

Fast and Loose: Before Michael Bay, Will Smith Parted Ways With Quentin Tarantino 13 Years Ago
Image
A confirmed report from The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Michael Bay has walked out of the production of the upcoming comedy/action movie Fast and Loose.

The movie, which is going to stream on Netflix upon release, is helmed by Will Smith and will talk about a mob boss who loses his memory in an accident. However, he slowly recovers his memories and recalls that he was actually leading a double life as a CIA operative.

THR previously reported that director David Leitch had also walked out of the production of Fast and Loose to start his work on The Fall Guy. Following Leitch’s exit, iconic director Michael Bay has also chosen to part ways with Will Smith over a “creative difference” between the two.

This isn’t the first time that Smith or Michael Bay have been in the news for walking out of a project. Will...

Michael Bay Exits Netflix’s Will Smith Action Film ‘Fast and Loose’
Image
Michael Bay has exited Netflix’s action film Fast and Loose amid creative differences with star Will Smith, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Fast and Loose focuses on a crime boss who loses his memory after an attack and gradually learns that he was leading a double life as a CIA agent. Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner and Eric Pearson worked on the screenplay. Jon and Erich Hoeber wrote the original script after selling their pitch to Netflix.

The streamer is looking to begin production in 2026 and will be focused on attaching a filmmaker in the meantime. THR reported in October that Bay was set to helm the project.

Fast and Loose has been in the works since before Smith’s slap of Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars ceremony. THR previously reported that David Leitch had exited the project the week before the infamous Academy Awards telecast to start work on The Fall Guy,...

Michael Bay Exits Netflix’s ‘Fast and Loose’ Over Creative Differences With Will Smith
Image
Michael Bay has exited “Fast and Loose,” an upcoming Netflix action movie that was meant to be a reunion of star Will Smith and the “Bad Boys” director, because Bay and Smith were unable to reconcile their creative differences TheWrap has learned.

The project, announced last fall, would follow Smith’s character, who wakes up without his memories. He eventually figures out that he was living two lives – as a crime lord and an undercover CIA agent. Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner and Eric Pearson wrote the script, based on an initial pitch from the Hoebers.

Smith is also a producer on the project with his Westbrook Studios, alongside Kelly McCormick and David Leitch for 87North. The movie was on track to start production in October, but will now be moved to 2026.

Michael Bay Exits Will Smith's Netflix Action Film in Major Creative Shakeup
Image
Will Smith's upcoming action film has just experienced a major hiccup. His new Netflix film with a very long history, Fast and Loose, has just lost its director.

According to Deadline, Michael Bay, who was supposed to helm Fast and Loose, has just exited the project. The two were reportedly unable to "bridge creative differences." This led to Bay to exit, as the Transformers director reportedly wanted more emphasis on action, while Smith wanted to lean into the comedy bit of the film.

Fast and Loose follows Smith as "a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns he’s been living two lives: one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent." Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner, and Eric Pearson wrote the script for the previously Michael Bay-helmed action film.

Will Smith at an event for Seven Pounds (2008)
Fast and Loose: Will Smith action film loses director Michael Bay
Will Smith at an event for Seven Pounds (2008)
Five years ago, it was announced that Will Smith would be teaming up with director David Leitch for an action film called Fast and Loose. Originally developed by STXfilms with Leitch attached as a producer, the project moved to the Netflix streaming service after Leitch moved into the director’s seat as well. But, as the years went by, Leitch decided to step back – and ten months ago, it was revealed that Smith would be reuniting with his Bad Boys and Bad Boys II director Michael Bay to bring Fast and Loose to the screen. Well, now plans have changed again. Deadline reports that Smith and Bay were “unable to bridge creative differences” they had over the project, so Bay has dropped out.

Netflix is now searching to find Fast and Loose‘s third and hopefully final director. They’re planning to get this thing into production in October, so...

Michael Bay & Will Smith Part Company On Netflix Action Film ‘Fast And Loose’
Image
Exclusive: Netflix is back out looking for a director for Fast and Loose, after Michael Bay and Will Smith were unable to bridge creative differences and Bay shook loose of the film yesterday.

Fast and Loose will star Smith as a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns he’s been living two lives: one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent. The script by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner and Eric Pearson. The film has action as well as comic moments, but Deadline hears Bay wanted more emphasis on the former while Smith wanted to lean into the latter.

They are looking to shoot in October, and Netflix will lock in a new filmmaker to keep things on track. Bay has plenty else to do. He is discussing with Paramount a return to...

'Jurassic World Rebirth' Breaks Into a Major Top 100 Box Office List
Image
A day before it arrives on home video, Universal's Jurassic World Rebirth has passed its biggest box office milestone. The seventh installment of the landmark action-adventure franchise is now one of the 100 highest-grossing films in domestic box office history. It'll conclude its theatrical run with a lower haul than all three of its predecessors, but that's mainly a result of the changing theatrical landscape rather than any possible irrelevance. However, Universal was smart enough to keep costs in control this time around; had it spent the kind of money it did on Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Rebirth couldn't have been classified as a hit.

With $317 million domestically and another $448 million from overseas markets, Rebirth has generated a total of $766 million worldwide. The movie was produced on a reported budget of $180 million, which is way lower than the $432 million that was spent on Fallen Kingdom, or even the reported $265 million...

David Harbour Finally Reveals When 'Violent Night 2' Will Start Filming
Image
For action fans, Christmas is a joyous occasion, as it allows us to reach into our cinematic sack and pull out the likes of Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, and, for some, even Batman Returns. A few years ago, we were gifted another festive action great to add to the list, and we now have some seriously promising news about the upcoming sequel.

Released back in 2022, the first Violent Night stars David Harbour as Santa Claus alongside John Leguizamo, Beverly D'Angelo, Alex Hassell, Alexis Louder, Edi Patterson, Cam Gigandet, and André Eriksen. The action outing finds Harbour’s Santa reaching into his sack and bringing out the big guns after a team of elite mercenaries breaks into a wealthy family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone inside hostage. But the team isn’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus. Who, they quickly find out, is no saint.

F1 Soundtrack Was Fire, But Brad Pitt’s Latest Book Adaptation Had The Greatest Songs Ever
Image
Brad Pitt’s F1 is currently dominating headlines and box office records, but Bullet Train leaves it in the dust when it comes to a soundtrack showdown. The 2022 action-comedy movie Bullet Train, based on Kōtarō Isaka’s novel Maria Beetle, wasn’t just a thrilling watch due to its stylistic visuals, amazing cast, and twists, but also the music!

And even though F1’s whole album featured music from global giants, it couldn’t quite deliver the same emotions. Both movies had sky-high ambition, but let’s look at how they compare when it comes to soundtracks and what F1 exactly needed to elevate itself on the musical front.

How Brad Pitt’s Bullet Train Outperformed the Soundtracks of F1 Brad Pitt in Bullet Train | Credits: Columbia Pictures

F1 was scored by Hans Zimmer, the legendary music director who’s known for composing masterpieces in movies like Interstellar, Gladiator, and Inception.

David Harbour Just Delivered a Bloody Exciting Update on 'Violent Night 2' [Exclusive]
Image
Christmas came early at FanX's Tampa Bay Comic-Con, where David Harbour confirmed that Violent Night 2, the blood-soaked holiday sequel, is officially heading into production in just four weeks. While speaking on stage during a joint panel hosted by Collider's Maggie Lovitt, with Stranger Things co-star Matthew Modine, Harbour offered a clear timeline: “I'm doing the sequel to Violent Night in four weeks,” he told the crowd, eliciting cheers from fans of his gruff, beer-swilling, hammer-swinging Santa Claus.

Harbour will reprise his role as the brutal St. Nick, last seen delivering a holly jolly can of tinsel-lined whoop ass to mercenaries on Christmas Eve in the 2022 sleeper hit. Directed by Tommy Wirkola and produced by 87North's Kelly McCormick and David Leitch, Violent Night racked up $76 million at the global box office on a modest $20 million budget, blending Die Hard antics with Santa’s Viking lore.

Lee Isaac Chung in talks to direct Ocean’s prequel
Image
The Ocean’s prequel seems alive and well as Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung is in talks to direct.

The Ocean’s prequel has been in development hell for quite a while now. It was originally rumoured in 2022 and said to be starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Since then, it’s been quiet on that front while a new Ocean’s sequel seems to be in the works separately with David Leitch potentially directing.

But the prequel doesn’t seem to be completely dead. Deadline now reports that Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung is circling the project. Robbie is still on producing duties for Warner Bros. via her LuckyChap company, but whether she’ll star, with or without Gosling, is still unclear.

We do know that there is a script and it’s written by Carrie Solomon. We probably won’t know anything else about the script for a good while as Warner Bros.

According to Deadline, Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung is in talks to helm the Ocean’s prequel movie for Warner Bros.

The current screenplay is by Carrie Solomon and is based on characters created by George Clayton Johnson & Jack Golden Russell, but the plot is being kept under wraps. Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, is producing the project. At one time, it was reported that Robbie would star in the film alongside Ryan Gosling, but current reports state that no cast has been set.

Jay Roach (The Roses) was once attached to direct the film, but it seems he’s off the project. Previous reports stated that the film would be set in 1960s Europe and feature Robbie and Gosling as the parents of Danny (George Clooney) and Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock).

Jurassic World Rebirth Stealthily Roars To Dinosaur-Sized Success At The Global Box Office
Image
Given its impressive box office performance, a sequel to Jurassic World: Rebirth feels all but guaranteed.

Over the weekend, the film’s global total climbed to $718.4 million, earning $301.5 million in North America and $416.8 million from international markets.

With a production budget reportedly set at $180 million and an additional $90 million spent on marketing, Rebirth needed to bring in roughly $540 million globally to break even, based on the standard 50/50 revenue share with theaters. It surpassed that benchmark weeks ago.

As ticket sales continue to rise, analysts now predict the film could easily surpass $800 million worldwide by the end of its theatrical run, strengthening the case for another installment in the franchise.

#JurassicWorldRebirth broke $700M at worldwide #boxoffice this wknd! Latest update:

Domestic $13M/$301.5M (-45%)

Jason Statham’s Apparent “Hardcore” Thriller Is Beating the Odds on Streaming
Image
Jason Statham is known for his hardcore action movies, but one entry was too hardcore even for his filmography. After appearing in several installments of the Fast & Furious franchise, Statham reprised his role for 2019’s Hobbs & Shaw, a spin-off focusing on him and Dwayne Johnson.

Recently, Hobbs & Shaw is doing surprisingly good on streaming services, being available on Peacock in the USA, and other platforms in several Asian and European countries (via FlixPatrol), where it is cracking the top 10 charts. Here is why Statham considers Hobbs & Shaw one of his most hardcore movies.

Why Jason Statham Considers Hobbs & Shaw a Hardcore Movie

Jason Statham debuted in the role of Deckard Shaw during the closing moments of 2013’s Fast & Furious 6. He later reprised the role in subsequent installments before joining Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs in the spin-off movie Hobbs & Shaw.

Jason Statham’s 88% Rotten Tomatoes Thriller He Called “Hardcore” Is a Global Streaming Hit

While Jason Statham’s newest movie continues to find streaming success, another of his more recent films has stumbled back into the streaming spotlight over five years later. Statham stars alongside Dwayne Johnson and Vanessa Kirby in the 2019 Fast & Furious spin-off film, Hobbs & Shaw. Hobbs & Shaw follows two F&f titans as they team up to take down a cybernetically enhanced villain, Brixton (Idris Elba), intent on destroying all of humanity. Hobbs & Shaw is currently streaming on Peacock in America and Prime Video globally, where it’s charting in countries such as Thailand, Lebanon, and even Yemen. Hobbs & Shaw earned respectable scores of 67% from critics and 88% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, narrowly missing out on the “certified fresh” and “verified hot” labels. However, that didn’t stop it from grossing $760 million at the box office against a $200 million budget.

John Wick Had An Underrated Prequel With Lance Reddick That Was Lost To Time
Image
For a while, it seemed as though Lionsgate and the "John Wick" saga had a lot to teach Hollywood about building a cinematic universe. But after the lifeless, joyless return to the Wick-verse that was TV series "The Continental" and the less-than-ideal box office returns for the Ana de Armas-led "Ballerina," it became depressingly clear that without Keanu Reeves' hitman at the forefront, this burgeoning shared universe was never really going to succeed.

"John Wick: Chapter 5" has been officially green-lit and could bring the man himself back from the dead. But with interest in the series apparently waning in the wake of the "Ballerina" box office, is Keanu's return going to be enough to save this franchise? It seems as though it would be the big fix Lionsgate is hoping for, but perhaps after witnessing Baba Yaga battle his way through hordes of enemies and perish at the end of "John Wick: Chapter 4,...

Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell are reuniting for a new action comedy movie. The casting comes two years after the two actors appeared in Barbie, one of the biggest films of 2023.

Per Deadline, Gosling and Ferrell are set to co-star in a new movie called Tough Guys. An action comedy, the film comes from Amazon MGM Studios. Gosling is also in talks to produce alongside Jessie Henderson through Open Invite Entertainment, while Ferrell is also eyed to produce with Jessica Elbaum for Gloria Sanchez Productions. Trevor Engelson and Aaron Falbe are in talks to executive produce for Underground.

As of now, a director has not yet been attached to the project, but the script comes from writer Daniel Gold (Workin' Moms). The film follows "two henchmen who are tired of being disposable and break free from the criminal underworld, rewriting the rules as they build a new life on their own terms.

Death on Deadpool 2 Set: Investigation Report on Stunt Double Joi Harris’ Motorcycle Accident
Image
While workplace drama is nothing new, Deadpool 2 takes it a step beyond by closely experiencing the dangers of working in the superhero industry. While filming on the sets of Deadpool 2, a motorcycle accident was reported in which a stunt double, Joi Harris, ended up losing her life.

The fatality of working in the stunt double industry is well known throughout Hollywood. The Ryan Reynolds sequel is one of those films that is heavy on the action, and considering the hugely acrobatic and performative action style of Deadpool as a comic book character, it is not surprising to hear that one of the stunt performers was injured in the process of filming.

Jurassic World Rebirth Tops Half-Billion Worldwide And Holds Strong Even With Superman's Arrival
Image
After a strong debut, there was speculation that Jurassic World Rebirth might cut into Superman’s opening weekend box office. However, both films appear to have found a way to coexist in North America, managing to perform well without significantly hurting each other.

In its second weekend, Jurassic World Rebirth saw a 57% drop in domestic earnings, fairly standard for a major tentpole release. Looking at other top 2025 films, this trend holds:

Lilo & Stitch opened with $146.01 million and dropped 57% to $63 million in weekend number two. A Minecraft Movie debuted at $162.75 million, followed by $80.6 million the next weekend- a 50% dip. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning went from $64.04 million to $27.22 million- a 57% drop. How to Train Your Dragon opened at $84.63 million, dropping 56% to $36.58 million the following weekend. Sinners, however, broke the pattern, falling just 5% from $48.01 million to $45 million- a highly unusual hold for a blockbuster.

In short, Jurassic World Rebirth’s performance...

Jonathan Bailey Boards Jurassic World: Rebirth as Jeff Goldblum Returns
Jonathan Bailey
Jonathan Bailey has formally joined the ensemble of Jurassic World: Rebirth, stepping into an as-yet-unnamed lead role opposite Jeff Goldblum, whose cameo will mark Dr. Ian Malcolm’s first appearance since 2022’s Dominion — a pairing confirmed by director Gareth Edwards after Deadline broke the news last week. Filming began in March on soundstages outside London before relocating to Thailand and Malta, where cast member Scarlett Johansson reportedly chartered a yacht so the company could unwind between night shoots.

Bailey’s schedule briefly overlapped with post-production pickups for Jon M. Chu’s two-part Wicked, but Universal arranged a three-week hiatus that allowed the actor to finish musical Adr in Los Angeles before rejoining the dinosaur thriller. Studio insiders say the dual commitments underscore the franchise’s new strategy of blending Broadway-honed talent with blockbuster veterans to refresh its demographic reach.

Goldblum, who filmed his scenes in May, appears for “several pivotal...

John Wick's Story Borrowed A Big Part From A Forgotten Keanu Reeves Romance Movie
Image
Across four movies, John Wick has killed almost 500 people, wounded countless others, and left a trail of absolute devastation across the globe. While he's mostly dispatched his enemies using his ferociously efficient gun-fu fighting style, Keanu Reeves' assassin has also offed adversaries in a variety of ingenious ways, including pencils to the neck and books to the face. From 2014's "John Wick" to 2023's "John Wick: Chapter 4," we've seen the hitman lay waste to thugs using every form of weapon and using every type of physical combat. And to think, if losef Tarasov (Alfie Allen) had just left that poor puppy alone none of this would have happened.

As any fan will know, John Wick set out on his murderous rampage simply because the son of a Russian crime boss killed his Beagle puppy, Daisy. That puppy happened to have been given to the retired assassin by his deceased wife,...

The 15 Best Ryan Gosling Movies Ranked
Image
An actor of such magnetism, gravitas, style, charisma, and raw talent that people around the world are convinced that he's literally them (you're all delusional –- he's literally me), Ryan Gosling might just be the most beloved actor working in Hollywood right now. The coming years are set to be momentous for the Canadian former child star, who has gone from performing with Britney Spears on "The Mickey Mouse Club" to leading such highly-anticipated projects as Phil Lord and Christopher Miller's sci-fi thriller "Project Hail Mary" and Shawn Levy's "Star Wars: Starfighter" film.

Either movie could be yet another hit for Gosling, adding to a list of incredible projects so long it was hard to pick just 15 to talk about. Even so, we've painstakingly sifted through indie dramas, cult classics, overlooked box office duds, and more than a few major blockbusters to rank the best Ryan Gosling films of all time.

Guy Ritchie Exits Road House 2, but These 5 Directors Are Absolutely Perfect
Image
It’s official—Guy Ritchie has slammed the door shut on Road House 2. While Amazon MGM Studios is still staying tight-lipped on why the filmmaker walked away, the sequel is still very much alive and kicking. Even Jake Gyllenhaal is set to reprise his role as the bouncer turned Florida renegade, Dalton.

After the original 2024 remake, we know that the Road House franchise still has plenty of punch left. So now the gig question remains—if not Guy Ritchie, who has the grit, style, and action chops to deliver this sequel? With screenwriter Will Beall (Bad Boys: Ride or Die) crafting the script and Gyllenhaal doubling down as both star and producer, the stage is set for an action-packed follow-up.

But it needs the right director—someone who knows how to mix the punches with cinematic flair. So, we’ve rounded up five directors who are somewhat best suited to replace Ritchie.

‘Heads of State’ Review: John Cena and Idris Elba Reunite for a Ridiculously Silly Action Comedy
Image
An Above-Average Streaming Movie ‘Heads of State’ is not your typical, run-of-the-mill Prime Video movie that was dumped on the service on some random Summer weekend. It has a tight script and modest runtime, some great action sequences, and is actually funny. ‘Heads of State’ doesn’t try to be something it’s not, which is why it succeeds in an era filled with soulless streaming slop (that somehow costs hundreds of millions of dollars to produce). Thanks to the chemistry between John Cena and Idris Elba’s, it makes for a well-spent night on your living room couch, which should have been a well-spent night at the theater. Oh, and the most unrealistic thing about ‘Heads of State’ is that the U.S. President isn’t a delusional geriatric. Brad Pitt's Marvel Cameo Inspired An Amusing Gag In A Ryan Reynolds Kids' Movie
Image
Brad Pitt might hold the record for briefest Marvel movie cameo, thanks to his role in Ryan Reynolds' "Deadpool 2." The Fox-produced Marvel movie was directed by David Leitch, who has long been Pitt's stunt double. Leitch was able to call in a favor and have Pitt join "Deadpool 2" in a two-second silent cameo. The movie saw Reynolds' Deadpool putting together a team of heroes called X-Force, only for almost the entire team to be immediately wiped out while attempting to parachute in high winds. Deadpool was forced to look on in horror as, one by one, his teammates were blown to grisly deaths.

One member of Deadpool's X-Force team was Vanisher. With the power of invisibility, Vanisher spent much of his brief stint in "Deadpool 2" unseen and silent. When Deadpool was interviewing X-Force candidates, Vanisher didn't turn up, setting up a gag in which Deadpool...

Jurassic World: Rebirth Review: Franchise Reset Delivers The Jurassic Park IV We Never Got
Image
A worthy sequel 65 million years in the making finally comes to fruition with Jurassic World: Rebirth. The return of Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp to pen the story, and the addition of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards prove a perfect genetic splice, placing Michael Crichton’s novels under the microscope once again and evolving Jurassic World: Rebirth into one of the top entries in the franchise.

Several years after the events of Jurassic World: Dominion, the dinosaurs have once again faced a mass extinction, dying out due to an inhospitable climate everywhere except in areas near the equator. Pharmaceutical executive Martin Krebs (Rupert Friend) enlists the help of covert ops specialist Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson) and her team of mercenaries to extract DNA from the three largest dinosaurs ever to exist. Due to their relatively long lifespan and enormous size, Krebs‘s company ParkerGenix believes the...

'Jurassic World Rebirth' Already Hits Massive Global Box Office Milestone Before First Weekend of Release
Image
It's been only a few years since Jurassic World Dominion brought the franchise's sequel trilogy to a lackluster conclusion, despite hitting the coveted $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. The visibly declining returns notwithstanding, Universal is still treating the franchise like its crown jewel, especially with the Fast and the Furious series seemingly stuck in the pit lane. This week, the studio debuted Jurassic World Rebirth in theaters worldwide, reminding audiences that these movies can't be benched for too long. Rebirthdebuted to mixed reviews, but has already passed the $100 million mark worldwide before its first weekend in theaters.

With over $80 million at the domestic box office and another $80 million from overseas markets, the movie's cumulative global haul currently stands at over $160 million. Rebirth was produced on a reported budget of $180 million, which is significantly lower than the $265 million that Dominion was reported to have cost. The difference between Rebirth...

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score Plummets as it Earns Franchise’s Second-Worst CinemaScore
Image
This week finally saw the release of Universal’s biggest bet of the summer, Jurassic World Rebirth. The film debuted on Wednesday in several major territories across the globe, including the United States, where it’s set to deliver a blockbuster box office debut. However, audiences don’t seem to be super-pleased with the film, which was built primarily by the studio, with director Gareth Edwards being brought on board at the last minute. Rebirth stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey in the lead roles, and is designed as a new reboot of the franchise, after the Jurassic World trilogy ran its course a few years ago.

The previous trilogy witnessed diminishing returns, both critically and commercially, despite huge amounts of money being pumped into it by the studio. It was clear by the time Jurassic World Dominion debuted in 2022 that audiences had mostly checked out. Although the...

‘She Just Goes Batsh*t Crazy’: Nobody 2 Director Teases Sharon Stone’s Villainous Role
Image
Indonesian filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto has opened up about Sharon Stone’s casting in the upcoming Nobody 2 movie. This marks the first English-language directorial feature for Tjahjanto, who is best known for his work on action thrillers like Killers (2014), Headshot (2016), and The Big 4 (2022), as well as horror movies such as Macabre (2009) and May the Devil Take You (2018).

In Nobody 2, Stone will be playing the sequel’s main antagonist named Lendina. Golden Globe winner is no stranger to villainous roles, following her iconic performances in 1992’s Basic Instinct and 2004’s Catwoman. Speaking with Empire, Tjahjanto teased the acclaimed actor’s lethal character, while also recalling Stone’s unbelievable casting. “She’s like a snake,” he said. “Sometimes she plays it calm, and sometimes she just goes batshit crazy! I thought we could never get Sharon Stone,” he explains. “We sent a script and a couple of days later I was sitting on her couch,...

John Wick Director Chad Stahelski Had A Massive Argument With The Studio Over One Note
Image
After Keanu Reeves' assassin seemingly perished at the end of "John Wick: Chapter 4," it seems he's set for a return. "John Wick 5" will bring Keanu back from the dead, with studio Lionsgate keen to keep the franchise's momentum going after a couple of spin-off missteps, the latest being the Ana de Armas-starring "Ballerina."

Sadly, the box office returns for "Ballerina" appeared to be a death sentence for the John Wick universe, which only really seems to bring in crowds when the man himself is front and center. With a 76% Rotten Tomatoes score, an A- Cinemascore, and a title that makes no secret of the film being "From the World of John Wick," "Ballerina" should have done better than $109 million on a $90 million budget. So, why didn't it? Well, the obvious answer is, again, because John Wick wasn't the main attraction, and with TV spin-off "The Continental" also falling flat,...

'Nobody 2' Director Timo Tjahjanto Describes Sharon Stone's Performance as "Batsh*t Crazy"
Image
'90s icon Sharon Stone is set to make her comeback in the sequel to the surprising hit Nobody 2. The John Wick-esque movie will feature Bob Odenkirk again as the retired government mercenary whose past comes back to haunt him because of some unresolved business. The first film was quite successful with audiences and critics, and naturally, the producers were going to capitalize on it by making a sequel with an additional ingredient: a notable film icon as the villain. Director Timo Tjahjanto is grabbing the reins for the action follow-up, and he had nothing but good things to say about the Academy Award-nominated actor who has been missing from the spotlight lately.

Nobody was one of the films released in 2021 right as the Covid-19 pandemic shook the film industry. It suffered a delay in its original release schedule, and although this may have affected its performance, the film was well-received.

'Superman' Star, Nicholas Hoult, Teases Plot Details of 'John Wick' Co-Creator's New Thriller 'How to Rob a Bank'

Nicholas Hoult is set to star in one of the biggest movies of the year, James Gunn's Superman, where he will play the infamous and notoriously bald supervillain, Lex Luthor. But, following Superman, Gunn is losing the villainous persona and swapping the bald cap for bleach blonde hair in a new thriller from John Wick co-creator, David Leitch. How to Rob a Bank is Leitch's next action-packed movie, and Hoult teased what fans can expect from the new flick.

Wick Is Pain Review: The Real-World Cost of a Fictional Universe
Image
Jeffrey Doe’s documentary, “Wick Is Pain,” arrives not as a simple behind-the-scenes featurette, but as an essential autopsy of a cultural phenomenon that, by all logic, should never have happened. It meticulously chronicles how the John Wick saga, now a monolithic titan of modern action cinema, began its life as a precarious, almost stillborn independent film.

The series that projects such effortless, hermetically-sealed cool was, in reality, born from absolute chaos and desperation. This is the central, delicious irony the film explores with candid insight. It peels back the curtain on a mythology we take for granted to reveal a production teetering on the brink of collapse, a high-wire act performed without a net over a canyon of debt.

We learn that hours before filming was to commence, the entire enterprise was short millions of dollars and destined for the scrapheap of cinematic history. This wasn’t just a...
