Skeleton Crew Productions has revealed the official trailer for Hearts of Darkness: The Making of The Final Friday, a feature-length documentary on the creation and legacy of Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday.

Adam Marcus, director of the divisive 1993 sequel, serves a producer in addition to being interviewed alongside stars Kane Hodder, Steven Williams, and John D. LeMay.

Other participants include actors Steven Culp, Rusty Schwimmer, Richard Gant, Kipp Marcus, Andrew Bloch, Allison Smith, Julie Michaels, Michelle Clunie, Michael B. Silver, Kathryn Atwood, and Jonathan Penner, composer Harry Manfredini, and special makeup effects artists Howard Berger and Robert Kurtzman.

Hearts of Darkness will have its world premiere at FrightFest Glasgow on March 8 and its U.S. premiere at Texas Frightmare Weekend in May, both with Marcus in attendance.

The filmmaker will be touring with it for more screenings around the country. A Blu-ray and streaming deal is in the works.

The Friday the 13th franchise first received the television treatment with Friday the 13th: The Series in 1987, but it was a classic bait and switch. The Friday the 13th franchise started in 1980, with the first installment. It was so successful that it spawned two sequels quickly in 1981 and 82. It went on to have eight more sequels and a reboot in 2009, which despite negative reviews, did well at the box office.

With horror movies like Child's Play and Psycho having successful television adaptations, the upcoming Crystal Lake is the Friday the 13th prequel that the franchise needs. Especially after Friday the 13th: The Series is a letdown for fans.

Fat City, released in 1972, was something of a “rebound” film for beloved director John Huston, whose previous two films had been flops. Based upon the 1969 novel by Leonard Gardner (who also wrote the screenplay), Fat City follows Stacy Keach as Billy Tully, a small time boxer who never made it big who is living in squalor. Over the years I’ve noticed an interesting phenomena among Star Trek fans which is that most of them love the television series but seem only to tolerate the films. Maybe my perception is off, seeing as how I fall into the category of a non-fan who greatly enjoys the films—namely the ones from the 1980s starring the original cast—but not the TV series from which they were based. For whatever reason, there seems to be a strange sort of disconnect between fans of the TV series and mainstream audiences. For many years Tarzan was a staple of cinema—in fact from its very onset. The first Tarzan feature, Tarzan of the Apes, came out in 1918 and was followed by close to 50 other adaptations in the last century. His star started to fade in the late 1960s and there were no Tarzan features in the 1970s save for one. The 1980s somewhat provided his last gasp on the big screen with movies like the Bo Derek vehicle Tarzan, the Ape Man (1981) and- more impressively- the well-received Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. Spearheaded by Sergio Leone himself, Nobody was directed by Tonino Valerii (Day of Anger) and teams Once Upon a Time in the West’s Henry Fonda with They Call Me Trinity’s Terence Hill. With a TV series take on the Friday the 13th film series now in development at The CW, horror fans may be reminded of Friday the 13th: The Series, the late ’80s show that had nothing to do with Jason Voorhees or Camp Crystal Lake, but instead centered on antique store owners seeking to capture and lock away cursed items wreaking havoc outside their shop's doors.

Genre television is becoming a major presence in primetime TV. Shows like American Horror Story, Hannibal, True Blood and Grimm are dominating the air and doing big numbers for cable and network stations alike. Subsequently, there is a new trend of reviving series once thought to be dead. Netflix is resurrecting Arrested Development, Fox is bringing back 24, TBS rebooted Cougartown. FEARnet is even getting in on the game, bringing back Reaper with an all-new reunion special airing May 28th.

We at FEARnet, being die-hard horror fans, have some ideas as to what we would like to see rebooted, revived, retooled, or resurrected for another turn in the spotlight. There are plenty of factors that play in to the viability of revamping or resurrecting a series. There are concerns of continuity, scheduling, the aging of the cast, and more. We are not proclaiming that a revival of each of these series is necessarily logical.

Here’s a list of some of the new movie and TV shows coming to DVD and Blu-ray this week that we’re looking forward to seeing. Also, there’s some classic, and not-so-classic, movies hitting Blu-ray for the first time this week as well.

Independent fright filmmaker Danny Draven spoke with Fango to give us the details on The Filmmaker’S Book Of The Dead, coming from Focal Press January 22. The tome, which Draven has been quietly working on for the past year, is a full-on educational tool for young moviemakers attempting to dive into the horror world.

Book Of The Dead explores everything from the history of the genre to preproduction, shooting and distribution, and features a host of filmmakers and actors dishing out advice on finding success in the field. Among the interview subjects are such iconic genre figures as Robert Englund, Stuart Gordon, Saw’s James Wan, Tom Savini, Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman, special FX artist Robert Kurtzman, Herschell Gordon Lewis, David DeCoteau, Charles Band (who also contributes a foreword), Phantasm’s Reggie Bannister and Fango’s own Tony Timpone and Debbie Rochon.

Now Jason is back, solely stealing the spotlight and the lives of reckless youngins, and despite a mostly negative critical response and dismal box office staying power, he's still one massive murdering machine.

Platinum Dunes' new movie strikes theaters on the 13th, re-releases of the first three films arrive in Deluxe Edition DVDs (news here and here ) on February 3rd as does the new documentary His Name Was Jason ( official announcement ). Paramount Home Entertainment is going to keep the love rolling with the DVD debut of Friday the 13th: The Second Season . The sophomore run of the television show starring John D. Lemay, Louise Robey and Chris Wiggins will street on February 10th.
