Forty-one years ago, they published the biggest Beatles biography of all time — The Love You Make, which spent three months in 1983 atop the New York Times best-seller list. The book would make its co-authors — former Circus magazine editor and author of 13 best-sellers Steven Gaines and onetime Brian Epstein protégé and Fab Four confidant Peter Brown — into the most famous Beatle-ologists on the planet.
Also, two of the most reviled, at least by some guy named Paul McCartney, who was said to have been so outraged by the tome’s gossipy reportage that he set his copy on fire.
As it happens, Gaines and Brown aren’t quite finished with The Beatles yet. Last month, after decades of steering clear of the subject, they released All You Need Is Love: The Beatles in Their Own Words, an oral history of the Mop Tops based on hundreds of hours of old taped...

Chicago – One of the closest persons to John Lennon in the decade between the break up of The Beatles and his untimely death was May Pang … his lover from 1973 to 1975 … a time in Lennon’s life often called the “Lost Weekend.” Pang narrates a new documentary that sets their record straight, aptly titled “The Lost Weekend A Love Story.”
May Pang is a Manhattan-born daughter of Chinese immigrants and ardent music fan, who became the 19-year-old personal assistant to John Lennon and Yoko Ono beginning in December of 1970, shortly after The Beatles broke up. So when the couple resettled in New York City, she was indispensable to Lennon and Ono’s many wacky projects, In 1973. The Batman TV show, with Neil Hefti’s indelible “na-na-na-na-na-na-Batman” theme song, debuted in the U.S. in January 1966, hitting the U.K. in May. In April of that year, the Beatles started recording what would become the opening track of Revolver, George Harrison’s “Taxman,” which resembles the Batman theme when the band harmonizes on the title phrase. There were already three cover versions of the Batman theme released by April, including a hit version by the Marketts, so it’s entirely possible that the Beatles might have heard...

By 1968, despite, or maybe because of, their huge popularity and success, the Beatles found themselves spiritually exhausted. “We’d been the Beatles, which was marvelous,” Paul McCartney later recalled in The Beatles Anthology. “We’d tried for it not to go to our heads and we were doing quite well – we weren’t getting too spaced out or big-headed – but I think generally there was a feeling of: ‘Yeah, well, it’s great to be famous, it’s great to be rich – but what it’s all for?'”

Robert Freeman, the photographer whose iconic photos and album covers of The Beatles had a major cultural impact, has died. No cause of death was given, but he had been ill for some time. His death was confirmed by official The Beatles’ Twitter page.
Freeman began his career as a photo journalist at the British newspaper The Sunday Times. He made an early impression with black and white photographs of several jazz musicians, including saxophonist John Coltrane, and that brought him to the attention of Beatles manager Brian Epstein. He commissioned Freeman for a group portrait in 1963.
The group shoot led to a long association with the four boys from Liverpool, including the design and photography for the album covers for With The Beatles (Meet The Beatles! in the U.S.), The Beatles For Sale, Help! and Rubber Soul. He also designed the end credit sequences for the Beatles’ first two films,...

For those of us who weren’t lucky enough to attend a Beatles concert in the 1960s, Ron Howard’s Eight Days a Week just might be the next best thing. The 2016 documentary traces the band’s rise from a cramped and dank cellar in Liverpool to record breaking television appearances, jam packed stadiums, and—ultimately—rock immortality. Lovingly assembled through rare and often unseen fan home movie footage, Howard’s film also draws on more familiar material—restored to the highest echelons of HD— and new interviews with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. All told, it’s a joyous...

It’s hard to deny that Yoko Ono and John Lennon were very much in love, but the actual backstory of that love is usually a bit controversial. Even going off of a pretty sanitized account, Lennon met Ono while he was still married to his first wife, Cynthia Lennon, who he definitely cheated on. Then, after Cynthia Lennon had exposed the cheating, John Lennon divorced her and gave her a (relative) pittance in alimony. After that, though, it was all hearts and rainbows for Lennon and Ono, at least until he got murdered.
Anyway, Deadline is reporting that Ono is now developing an untitled film about her relationship with Lennon, alongside producer Michael De Luca and The Theory Of Everything writer Anthony McCarten. In a statement, De Luca said that the film “will focus on ripe and relevant themes of love, courage, and activism in the U.S.—with...

I was enamored of Cynthia Lennon from the moment I met her in the fall of 1980. It was in Ruthin, Wales, where she was running a bed and breakfast, and I was there to interview her for a book I was writing with Peter Brown, the former chief operating officer of Apple Corps, the Beatles’ parent company. Peter had introduced me to all four Beatles and their inner circles — friends, family, wives, and ex-wives — but Cynthia was the only one with whom I felt really simpatico. Cynthia was a lovely person, sweet, soft-spoken, and — despite living in a fishbowl for most of her life — shy. She was also a melancholic figure, wistful, smoking cigarettes and drinking white wine into the small hours. I could never quite figure out what made her so sad. Improbably, she said she was still in love with John, whom she had...

London — A hint of autumnal Beatlemania was in the air Sunday as Paul McCartney, for the second time in his improbable life, climbed the steps of venerable Old Marylebone Town Hall to take himself a bride.
True, thousands of heartbroken female fans crowded the columned building in 1969 when he married Linda Eastman, and only a few hundred showed up Sunday as he wed another American, Nancy Shevell, at the very same registry office.
But the feeling this time was not regret at the loss of a bachelor heartthrob. Instead there was joy that McCartney, regarded as a national treasure and revered the world over, seemed happy again.
The 69-year-old former Beatle appeared proud, content and eager to share his joy with the crowd, raising his bride's hand in triumph as he walked down the steps after they became man and wife in a simple civil ceremony attended by close family and friends,...

New York, Sep 20 – It seems all the feuds within John Lennon’s family have ended for good.
Yoko Ono and Julian Lennon, John’s son with Cynthia Lennon have indulged in years of mudslinging and law suits over the disbursement of the former Beatle’s estate and Julian’s belief that he was not treated equally with Ono’s son, Sean Lennon.
But the former foes buried the hatchet recently when Ono and Sean feted Julian at the Morrison Hotel Gallery on Thursday night at his portraiture and landscape photography exhibit.
