Jay Leno should have known what he was getting into when he told the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation that today’s comedy has become “just really political.” Comedians who clearly state their positions are alienating half their audiences, he complained. “Why not try to get the whole? I like to bring people into the big picture. I don’t understand why you would alienate one particular group — or just don’t do it at all... Just do what’s funny.”
The blowback was immediate. John Oliver heard the interview and decided, “I’m going to take a hard pass on taking comedic advice from Jay Leno.” And his old Daily Show partner, Jon Stewart, had no patience for Leno’s idea of avoiding “jokes about things you actually think.”
“The whole thing,” Stewart said, “is fucking ridiculous.”
Others, including Cracked, wasted no time reminding Leno that he’d made plenty of alienating,...

Amanda Knox is looking to break free from the one thing that defines her — but first, as the actress playing her says in the trailer, she has to go back.
“Many people think they know my story. But now, finally, it’s my turn to tell it,” says Grace Van Patten in the role of Knox for Hulu’s forthcoming limited series The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.

Jay Leno believes that late-night shows such as the recently canceled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert lost their way when they started being too critical and “alienating” in their political humor, as opposed to the welcoming and uncontroversial way he called Monica Lewinsky a slut every night on national television.
Over the last few days, Leno’s recent and extremely poorly timed interview about the state of late night in 2025 has empowered the online right and enraged the left as the former Tonight Show host declared to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation that today’s late-night hosts are struggling because they picked sides in politics, unlike himself. In case the irony and hypocrisy of Leno claiming that partisanship ruins comedy in a conversation with the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation wasn’t nauseating enough in a vacuum, there’s also Leno’s long history of picking sides — usually conservative ones...

Jay Leno believes late-night TV comedians have become too politicized — and that they risk losing half the viewing audience by “cozying up to one side or the other.”
“To me, I like to think that people come to a comedy show to kind of get away from things, you know, the pressures of life, whatever it might be,” Leno said in a recent interview with David Trulio, president and CEO of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute. “Now you have to be content with half the audience because you have to give your opinion.”
Leno didn’t name names. But the current roster of late-night hosts — Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Jon Stewart, John Oliver, Seth Meyers and more — has routinely mocked President Trump and the Maga movement. To be fair, they have also opportunistically lampooned Democrats.
Leno’s impression is that late-night TV these days skews toward specific political viewpoints.

“I was just browsing this morning. Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel hate each other. You know, Will Smith and Chris Rock probably still hate each other? Taylor Swift and Kanye West is still a match I’d like to visit in the ring. It feels like there are still some unresolved issues there.”

For the duration of her years-long legal battle with Dr. Luke, Kesha lived in two separate realities cosplaying as one. In one, she was locked in litigation with the producer, born Lukasz Gottwald, who countersued her for defamation after her lawsuit alleging sexual, physical, and emotional abuse was dismissed largely on the grounds that they were too old. In the other, she was still handing over music to his label Kemosabe Records and performing songs that used her voice — which she had no legal rights to — for audiences full of fans and supporters.

What does it mean to be the President of the United States? Are you the leader of the free world, the responsible holder of the highest status in the land, a role model to one and all? Or are you a power-hungry despot, a selfish apex of broken ideals of exceptionalism and imperialism? Or is it somewhere in between? Or does it change from person to person?
These are big questions for a big office, questions that have been explored in various movies throughout the years. While there are a litany of interesting movie presidents in bangers like "Dave," "Idiocracy," and "Fail Safe," some of our most direct interrogations have come when filmmakers and performers set their sights on the real-life rulers, donning prosthetics and turning history into drama.

“Tell me everything,” Barbara Walters used to urge her TV guests. She believed she could coax the truth out of anyone, whether revered or disgraced, and so did her viewers.
Her confidence would be challenged today when every fragment of news, even neighborhood trivia, disappears in a blur of distrust. Since viewers no longer believe what they hear, she’d wonder, might her interviewees become too constrained about what they say?
President Trump distrusts the news media so intensely he limits his announcements to his website, even when they’re nakedly bogus (“lasting disarmament”?) .
If that revered truth-teller Walter Cronkite were alive today it’s doubtful whether even he could cast a clear focus on Gaza or Tehran, on Zelenskyy or Netanyahu. Frustrated, he might even unleash AI on Ice just to see what emerges.

The teaser trailer for The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox sees Grace Van Patten as Amanda Knox, fighting for her life.
The series is based on Knox’s harrowing journey to prove her innocence and regain her freedom after being wrongfully imprisoned for her roommate’s murder. Knox, a Seattle native, was studying abroad in Italy at the time. After being initially convicted for murder in 2007, she was later acquitted by Italy’s highest court in 2015.
“Many people think they know my story, but now it’s my turn to tell it,” Van Patten’s Knox can be heard saying in the footage (below), which debuted during game five of the NBA Finals on Monday.
“A limited series inspired by the story of how Amanda Knox was wrongfully convicted for the tragic murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher, and her 16-year odyssey to set herself free,” the show’s logline reads.

The documentary Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything is a film much like its subject: sharp, uncomfortably direct, and possessed of a ferocious intelligence that refuses to settle for simple answers. It presents a life that was a constant negotiation between a public persona of empathetic inquiry and a private reality of steel-willed ambition.
Here was a woman who did not just report on the seismic cultural shifts of the 20th century; she was one of them, a genuine trailblazer who shattered the stained-glass ceiling of broadcast news with methodical determination.
Yet the film does not sanitize its subject. It understands that the same person who could disarm a dictator with a disarmingly human question could also maintain a perplexing, decades-long friendship with the political fixer Roy Cohn.
The film sets its hook not by promising a tribute, but by promising a full accounting of a deeply complicated and significant American figure.

A documentary is shedding light on Barbara Walters’ early career, and it’s not the inspiring story you might expect. While she went on to become one of the most respected journalists in television history, her big break at NBC came for a surprising reason. Apparently, NBC hired her not because of her talent or potential, but solely because she came at a low cost.
Well, this was definitely a startling contrast to the legacy she eventually built, further reminding us how often success stories begin in unexpected ways. Let’s dive deeper!
The truth behind Barbara Walters’ first big break at NBC
Barbara Walters is remembered as a television legend, known for being a fearless interviewer who sat across from presidents, movie stars, and royalty. But a new documentary, Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything via USA Today, reveals that her journey to the top wasn’t as glamorous as many believed.

It’s a familiar routine: Famous person dies and each network’s news division works quickly to cobble together (or finish off) a tribute special that answers a few basic questions — “Why was this person significant?” mostly — in a satisfying way that can be delivered within days of the death.
Tribute packages like that aren’t really “documentaries,” but they serve a valuable purpose for grieving or simply curious fans.
The problem with Jackie Jesko’s new documentary Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything, premiering at Tribeca ahead of a Hulu launch, is that for much of its 95-minute run, it feels exactly like one of those immediately posthumous overviews.
Especially in its first half, Tell Me Everything tries to emulate the iconic television journalist by guiding audiences through basic information, and eventually asking the tough questions, or at least touching on provocative issues. But it only rarely pushes deeper than hero worship.

Barbara Walters didn’t set out to become a pioneer for females in media. The legendary broadcast journalist and “The View” creator was simply trying to survive as a woman in a male-dominated industry.
“She’s mentioned in the same sentence as feminist icons, but she wasn’t a crusader. She wasn’t Gloria Steinem,” says Jackie Jesko, the director of “Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything,” which premieres on Thursday at Tribeca Festival. “She wasn’t doing it for other women. She was doing it for herself.”
That doesn’t make Walters — whose career took off at NBC as the first female co-host of “Today” and shaped history again at “ABC Evening News” as the first female (and highest-paid) network news anchor — any less of a trailblazer.
“We shouldn’t require that of our feminist icons,” the director says. “She made it possible for other women, and she loved that once she realized it,...

Miley Cyrus has been an absolute icon ever since she stepped into the entertainment industry as the wide-eyed Miley Stewart in Hannah Montana. It didn’t take long for the singer to build herself a fanbase that stretched across continents, but things took a turn for her in 2013, with the release of her highly controversial album, Bangerz.
Bangerz was a complete 180 from the image fans were so used to. While I’d say the songs were bangers on their own, it was her provocative image that received criticism from some Og fans. Now, Miley Cyrus is opening up about how that era affected her personally, causing trouble back home and in her love life.

It’s no secret that Sophia Bush did not leave Chicago Pd and the One Chicago franchise on the best of terms. Bush departed the series after four seasons of playing Detective Erin Lindsay on NBC’s hit police drama, and it’s honestly amazing that she stuck with the show for as long as she did, considering everything she had to endure behind the scenes.
Bush has opened up about her experience on the show before, but her newest comments paint a truly heartbreaking picture of just how rough things were for the beloved actress.
During a recent appearance on Monica Lewinsky's podcast, Reclaiming, Bush opened up about how her bucket list show brought about a traumatic experience where she experienced "every kind of abuse.”

One Tree Hill and Chicago P.D. star Sophia Bush has emotionally reflected on the abuse she suffered on the set of one of her shows. Bush shot to global fame in her breakout role of Brooke Davis in the CW smash-hit teen drama One Tree Hill, before a starring turn as Erin Lindsay in Chicago P.D., and a recurring role as Dr. Cass Beckman in Grey's Anatomy season 21. She also co-hosts the podcast Drama Queens, with former One Tree Hill co-stars Bethany Joy Lenz and Hilary Burton.
In a recent interview on Monica Lewinsky's podcast Reclaiming (via YouTube), Bush opened up on her traumatic experiences on the set of a show she doesn't specifically name. Bush details that she received "every kind of abuse" from an older man during her time on one of her shows. Bush discusses her time on One Tree Hill, and her first experience of workplace trauma,...

Actress Sophia Bush alleged she was was on the receiving end of “every kind of abusive” treatment while filming a television show.
The One Tree Hill veteran made the claims during an episode of Monica Lewinsky’s podcast Reclaiming that was released Tuesday.
While Bush did not name the show, she gave several context clues (such as the date she left the series) so that one might assume she was talking about her years on NBC’s hit procedural Chicago P.D., where she played Detective Erin Lindsay. She left the show after 84 episodes and has previously described it as a grueling experience.
“I was in this great place [after One Tree Hill], and I was ready for what was next,” Bush said. “And I did this comedy that I loved … for CBS. Then I went to work on this other show that was on my bucket list and then I had this whole other trauma.

There is a very basic (and very dumb) question right at the heart of MTV's 1998 animated series "Celebrity Deathmatch": Who would win in a fight? It was a series based very directly on conversations held while extremely high while talking about one's favorite/least favorite celebrities, and who would best whom in hand-to-hand combat. "Celebrity Deathmatch" visualized such fights in a well-organized, animated pro-wrestling ring, where the celebrities in question could outwardly murder each other. For anyone who has ever taken a big bong rip and asked, "You think Marilyn Manson could take Charles Manson in a fight?", "Celebrity Deathmatch" was the series for you.
The series was created by Eric Fogel, who had created the MTV animated series "The Head" (the one that aired with "The Maxx"), and the pairings he and his writers invented were often ingenious. The fight between Penn & Teller and Siegfried & Roy is a fun one.

While accepting a Gracie award for her work on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” Molly McNearney took the opportunity to directly address the pressure women often face to look perfect.
“I’m not saying this for sympathy. Jesus, do not give me sympathy,” McNearney said Tuesday night at the 50th annual Gracie Awards held at The Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire Hotel. “You might be feeling the same [insecurity] right now, and I need us to realize together — close your ears — it doesn’t fucking matter! Steve Martin is clearly a man of many talents. He’s a stand-up comedian, an actor, a Grammy-winning musician and hands down the world’s greatest cat juggler.
Martin is also an accomplished writer. In addition to penning the screenplays for several of his films, including Roxanne and L.A. Story, he has a long list of published works consisting of essays, short fiction and novels. Most of his writing has been collected and re-published in the new book Steve Martin Writes the Written Word, including his 2000 novella Shopgirl. Somehow Martin resisted the urge to edit out the scene in which a woman risks a Uti by shaving her pubic hair with toilet water.
One story that may be of particular interest to comedy fans is Martin’s condensed script for a nonexistent episode of I Love Lucy. But unlike most episodes of the classic show, this one is all about oral sex.

Molly Ringwald’s candid remarks on why the 1985 classic The Breakfast Club should not get a remake have sparked a backlash after the actress claimed that the movie lacks the diversity needed to resonate with today’s audience.
Starring alongside an ensemble cast, including Emilio Estevez, Paul Gleason, Anthony Michael Hall, and Judd Nelson, Ringwald portrayed the role of Claire Standish, a spoiled, wealthy girl in the movie. However, despite its high acclaim and enduring popularity, she defined the movie as racist and sexist, stirring controversy as it celebrates its 40th anniversary.

As you start to look through the list of Ryan Murphy shows, you’ll find that there are way more than you initially thought. He’s the man behind Glee, Scream Queens, American Horror Story, and so much more. There’s simply no way that you can watch everything in a short space of time, and there are some shows just not as good as others.
How do you know if something is worth watching or skipping, though? After all, something can seem great from the premise, but then you get into two episodes and realize that it’s just not what was promised. The good news is I’ve watched the majority of his shows now, and I can tell you the ones that just don’t quite hit the mark. I have the four that you definitely want to watch, and the three that are just worth skipping.

Veteran BBC journalist David Dimbleby interviewed Bill Clinton for TV in 2004 and enraged the former US president with questions about his denial of his affair with Monica Lewinsky.
This weekend, Dimbleby – who was for a long time the BBC’s premier broadcaster of public events including general elections and royal ceremonies – shared that he had raised the subject of oral sex with Clinton to win a bet with a friend. The broadcaster told The Times newspaper about why he had asked Clinton – who initially denied sexual relations with Lewinsky – whether oral sex did not count as sexual relations.
“That was a bet actually, the oral sex thing,” Dimbleby revealed. “A friend of mine said, ‘I bet you a bottle of champagne you won’t ask him about that.’ And I said, ‘I bet you do.’ It didn’t go down too well.”

Before John Hughes ever met young Molly Ringwald, he wrote the screenplay for Sixteen Candles while staring at her headshot. Flattering? Yes. Creepy? Also yes.
The two shared an agent, and Hughes chose her picture to inspire his new script. “Over the Fourth of July weekend, he put that up on his bulletin board above his computer station,” Ringwald told Monica Lewinsky on a recent episode of her Reclaiming podcast. “And he wrote this movie. When it came time to cast it, they said, ‘Who do you want?’ He said, ‘The girl that I wrote this about.’ And so we met.”
How did the teenager feel about being a grown man’s muse? “He told me that story, but when you’re that age, I had nothing really to compare it to,” Ringwald said. “I mean, I’d done more movies actually than John had at that point. But I was still only 15 years old.

Monica Lewinsky stated that former President Bill Clinton should have dealt with the aftermath of their affair by resigning. “When you look back once the news broke and how everything was handled by media and the White House, how do you think it should have been handled,” the podcast host Alex Cooper asked Lewinski. “Have you thought about that?”
“I think that the right way to handle a situation like that would have been to probably say it was, you know, nobody’s business and to resign, you know, or to find a way – to find a way of staying in office that was not lying and not throwing a young person who was just starting out in the world under the bus,” Lewinsky declared.

Olivia Munn says at the height of the #MeToo movement, she had a “traumatic” experience on a movie set that prompted the studio to offer a seven-figure settlement – which she turned down because she didn’t want to sign a nondisclosure agreement.
The actress told her story on the Tuesday episode of Monica Lewinsky’s podcast “Reclaiming,” as People first reported Wednesday. Munn did not name the movie, studio, nor any individuals involved, but said she reported the alleged incident around the time 2017 reports of Harvey Weinstein’s abhorrent behavior with women were catalyzing the wider #MeToo movement.
