Comedian Jerry Lewis ousted from muscular dystrophy gig
Los Angeles - American comedian Jerry Lewis has been relieved of his duties as host of the Muscular Dystrophy Association's annual telethon, after 45 years as frontman and national chairman. The Mda announced the change late Wednesday in a short statement that hailed the 85-year-old entertainer as a 'world class humanitarian.' Lewis has hosted the telethon every year since 1966, helping to raise hundreds of millions of dollars to combat the disease and also pioneering the use of celebrities in television fundraising. Last year, the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon raised almost 60 million dollars, and in May Lewis had said he planned to make this year's appearance his last before retiring.
