Five years since 'Tiger King' and why it is still worth watching
Image
Do you remember watching Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness during the Covid-19 pandemic? The documentary followed the life and career of Joe Exotic, whose real name is Joseph Maldonado, a former zookeeper and convicted felon.

Exotic was the owner of the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park (known as the G.W. Zoo) in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, from 1999 to 2018, prior to his conviction. He had a rivalry with Carole Baskin, who was the owner of Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, Florida.

Currently, he’s incarcerated in prison for an original 22-year sentence that includes 17 federal charges for animal abuse and two counts of attempted murder for hire against Baskin. Exotic has maintained his innocence in the murder-for-hire plot.

What happened on Tiger King and to Joe Exotic

According to Exotic and his attorney, he has said that he has never seen the documentary on Netflix. The videos were a collection of...

Netflix's Best New Show Teaches Us A Hard Lesson About The Streamer's Worst Habits
Image
Content warning: This article discusses topics that may be triggering to some readers, including stalking, grooming, and sexual assault.

"Baby Reindeer" is the latest Netflix phenomenon, the must-see limited series that people can't stop talking about. Starring Scottish comedian Richard Gadd and based on his award-winning play of the same name, "Baby Reindeer" is a dramatized look at real events Gadd endured when he was stalked by a woman he refers to as "Martha," and how his prior, unresolved history with sexual assault directly influenced how he responded to the situation. Given that Gadd is essentially reliving his trauma, "Baby Reindeer" differs from the majority of "based on true events" adaptations in that the person telling the story was actually there. There's no mystery to solve because the show's survivor is the one shaping the narrative.

But despite Gadd's tireless attempts to keep the identities of his abuser, his stalker,...

The remarkable thing about Brad Pitt, who turns 60 on December 18, isn’t the 85 and counting IMDb acting credits under his belt, although that’s a pretty impressive number.

Camden Toy
Camden Toy, ‘Buffy the Vampire’ Star, Dies at 68
Camden Toy
Camden Toy, the versatile character actor famed for playing a succession of demonic monsters on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has died. He was 68.

Toy died Dec. 11, after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, his representatives confirmed in a press release.

Often caked under layers of makeup as well as special prosthetics, Toy would be unrecognizable for many of his most well-known turns on Buffy and later Angel, playing one of the Gentleman, the Prince of Lies and the demon Gnarl among others, but his unmistakable physical acting would rank him and close friend Doug Jones as firm fan favorites.

“This is hard,” Jones tweeted on Wednesday. “So many memories including working together, decades of laughing, sharing mutual friends, get-togethers, travel, conventions, and huggles with each other and our fans. From Buffy on, 24 years blessed to have this friend. May he rest in God’s peace.”

Toy was born on May 31, 1955, in Pittsburgh,...

Buffy The Vampire Slayer's Scariest Episode Was Inspired By Two Horror Classics And A Simpsons Villain
Image
"Buffy The Vampire Slayer" season 4 is one of the show's more contested runs, but episode 10, "Hush," is a fan-favorite. When silent, grinning demons called the Gentlemen come to Sunnydale and rob the characters of their voices, the series makes a rare turn into outright horror.

Series creator (and controversial figure) Joss Whedon, who personally wrote and directed "Hush," recounted in the episode's DVD commentary that he wanted to test himself as a visual storyteller. He felt the visuals in "Buffy" had become too functional; the dialogue was guiding the storytelling to simple shot/reverse shot techniques. The obvious way to break up this monotony was to make an episode with little dialogue.

"Hush" forces the characters to find new ways of communicating and the story to deliver information without language. Looking at his career wholistically, Whedon never really outgrew using his dialogue as a crutch, but even he acknowledges: "It...

Joss Whedon Used Buffy The Vampire Slayer's Hush To Save Himself From 'Hackdom'
Image
"Hush" is the scariest episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and I will fight any naysayers on that. "The Body," where Buffy's mom dies, is the saddest and most impactful, in my opinion, but this one ... creepy, smiling men that float towards you, steal your voice, and then stab you ... there is no way to watch this and not shudder. I apologize for any nightmares the picture above gives you. I assure you, I have already collected all my old stuffed animals, checked under my bed for odd boxes, and turned on every light in the house.

If you haven't watched the tenth episode of the fourth season, I implore you not to do it alone. In "Hush," everyone is dealing with communication issues. Tara (Amber Benson in the character's debut) struggles to stand up for herself at a coven meeting while Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Riley (Marc Blucas...

Carole Baskin Claims Missing Ex-Husband Don Lewis Is Alive In Costa Rica, County Sheriff Disagrees
Image
Carole Baskin is alleging that her missing ex-husband Don Lewis is alive and well in Costa Rica.

The admission of his apparent whereabouts came out during a recently resurfaced 2021 television interview with Baskin.

Don Lewis’ disappearance in 1997 is detailed in Netflix’s widely popular “Tiger King” series, which attracted a lot of viral attention in 2020.

Though there were fan theories that Baskin had something to do with Lewis’ disappearance, the 61-year-old animal activist was adamant that he was still alive.

In a 2021 clip with the British ITV show “This Morning,” Baskin discussed the theory that Lewis is still living.

“They said my husband, Don Lewis, is alive and well in Costa Rica. And yet all of this drama has been made about me having something to do with his...

Joe Exotic in Tiger King (2020)
‘Tiger King’ Star Carole Baskin’s ‘Missing’ Husband Was Apparently Found Alive
Joe Exotic in Tiger King (2020)
In a November 2021 interview on ITV, Tiger King’s Carole Baskin told the hosts of This Morning that her missing husband, Don Lewis, was actually found alive according to Homeland Security. Not one single source has come through in the 14 months since the interview aired to confirm her claims are accurate, but the internet is just catching on. Her story goes like this: “One of the really exciting things that came out of Tiger King 2 is that they produced a letter from Homeland Security,” she told the hosts. “And it says that a special agent in charge with the FBI at Homeland Security reached out to the sheriff’s detective George Fernandez — which means this had to have happened after 2002 because Homeland Security wasn’t even around until 2002. “They said that my husband Don Lewis is alive and well in Costa Rica. And yet all of this hay has...

‘I’m speechless’: Barbara Walters ‘legendary’ interview with Sean Connery resurfaces after broadcaster dies
Barbara Walters at an event for Bride Wars (2009)
A video of Barbara Walters interviewing Sean Connery has gone viral in the wake of her death.

Walters, the first woman anchor on an evening news broadcast, died aged 93 on Friday (30 December).

Following news of her death, tributes have poured in from industry figures including Oprah Winfrey and former CBS anchor Dan Rather.

Her death has also prompted the resurfacing of a clip from her 1987 interview with Connery.

In the clip, which has been viewed 5.1 million times at the time of writing, Walters questioned the actor over a Playboy interview in which he said he does not think there is “anything wrong with hitting a woman”.

Connery, who died at 90 in 2020, told Playboy in 1965: “I don’t think there is anything particularly wrong about hitting a woman, although I don’t recommend doing it in the same way that you’d hit a man.”

The James Bond star said...

Video Of Barbara Walters Challenging Sean Connery’s Assertion That It’s ‘Absolutely Right’ To Hit Women Goes Viral
Image
Twitter users who took to the social media platform on Saturday, Dec. 31 may have noticed an unexpected name trending: Sean Connery, who died in 2020 at age 90.

As for why the James Bond actor was trending, it had to do with a video that resurfaced following the death of Barbara Walters on Friday at the age of 93.

The video features an excerpt from Walters’ 1987 interview with Connery, in which she challenges him about a comment he’d made in a Playboy interview decades earlier, when he said, “I don’t think there is anything particularly wrong about hitting a woman.”

‘I’m being humbled’: Kanye West compares himself to George Floyd as he brands family ‘greedy’ over lawsuit
Image
Kanye West has compared himself to George Floyd after questioning the nature of his death at the hands of a Minnesota police officer.

The 45-year-old rapper made a number of claims about Floyd’s death in an appearance on the Drink Champs podcast earlier this month, alleging that “they hit him with the fentanyl, if you look the guys knee wasn’t even on his neck like that”.

His remarks sparked widespread outrage and a lawsuit from Floyd’s family.

In a video that was reportedly shot in Los Angeles over the weekend, West, who legally changed his name to Ye, stopped and answered some fan questions.

When asked about his recent antisemitic comments and his opinion about Floyd’s death, the Donda rapper reportedly said that he “had experiences where I felt like I was being teamed up on”.

“And I didn’t realise that term would be antisemitic,...

Kate McKinnon and John Cameron Mitchell in Joe vs. Carole (2022)
‘Joe vs. Carole’ Review: Kate McKinnon Leads Peacock’s Surprisingly Classy Retelling of the ‘Tiger King’ Saga
Kate McKinnon and John Cameron Mitchell in Joe vs. Carole (2022)
Remember that time, almost exactly two years ago, when pandemic lockdowns had just begun, and the scents of bleach spray and sourdough filled the air as we all united in our obsession with a mulleted, eyelinered man who bred tigers and his nemesis, an animal activist who wore animal prints and flower crowns? Well, it has been a long two years, so maybe it’s as good a time as any for a little early pandemic nostalgia, courtesy of Peacock’s eight-episode miniseries “Joe vs. Carole,” which revisits the story of the 2020 Netflix documentary “Tiger King,” this time in scripted form.

The question, of course, is whether this story warrants multiple retellings, especially in such a short period. Is the feud between animal-collecting showman Joe Exotic and big-cat rescue activist Carole Baskin really the “Macbeth” of our time? Or even the O.J. Simpson murder trial of our time?

If you...

‘Joe vs. Carole’: Peacock Series About ‘Tiger King’ Duo Lacks Bite
Image
The names Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin have begun to feel like relics of a bygone era. The debut of Netflix’s documentary series “Tiger King” debuted nearly the same day the world shut down in the wake of the global pandemic in March 2020, leaving us questing for something, anything, to distract us from what lurked outside our door.

We found (what passes for) comfort in the outrageous story of a “gay, gun-carrying, redneck with a mullet” named Joe Exotic, an Oklahoma zoo owner, and his feud that devolved into a murder-for-hire plot against fellow (and equally kooky) big-cat enthusiast Carole Baskin. “Tiger King” felt like a global watch event with how much everyone discussed it on social media. Almost as quickly, two dueling projects focusing on Exotic and Baskin were announced: one set to star Nicolas Cage in the title role for CBS and the other, for NBC’s streaming service Peacock,...

Tiger King's Carole Baskin Responds to Claim That Husband Don Lewis May Be Alive
Carole Baskin
Carole Baskin has some thoughts about a claim made in Tiger King 2 that her missing husband, Florida millionaire Don Lewis, may be alive. The Florida millionaire disappeared in 1997 and was legally declared dead in 2002. On the hit 2020 Netflix docuseries Tiger King, Oklahoma zoo keeper Joe Exotic accused Baskin, a big-cat rescue activist, of killing her husband, who had told her he wanted a divorce. While she has denied involvement in his disappearance, police have deemed her a "high-profile person of interest" in the case. On the recently released Tiger King 2 series, a document the show identifies as being from the Department of Homeland Security states...

‘Tiger King’ Season 2: Ugly Villainy Dominates Netflix’s Shameless Double Down on Joe Exotic Saga
Image
Last March, as pandemic stay-at-home orders forced us into our houses, one show seemed to unite the country: Netflix’s “Tiger King.” The story of zoo owner Joe Exotic and the murder-for-hire plot against fellow tiger enthusiast Carole Baskin was always going to be something that captured people’s attention — Joe’s aesthetic alone! — but this went beyond that. It became something people loved, reviled, hate-watched, and called a guilty pleasure in equal measure. But was it ever meant to be more than a one-off phenom? “Tiger King 2,” which Netflix is technically calling the second season to the first “Tiger King” run, definitively says the answer is no.

Calling this season a docuseries is a stretch, as the five episodes feel like a hodgepodge of ideas in search of a story to tell. Joe Exotic, once the focal point of the show, is now merely a tangential connection for...

‘Tiger King’ Season 2 Is a Dull Rehash of a Show That Should’ve Stayed in Quarantine
Image
As “Tiger King” itself notes in its Season 2 premiere, during an opening sequence delivered with all the melodramatic gravitas of a grim thriller, Netflix dropped “Tiger King” at precisely the right moment for it to become the cultural sensation it did. By March 19 of 2020, millions of people were stuck at home waiting out the first wave of the novel coronavirus, not realizing that life was about to change for a much longer time than it takes to perfect sourdough starter. For anyone else starved for something besides a deadly virus to focus on, something as flashy and splashy as “Tiger King” provided the perfect kind of distraction. The interwoven tales of warring Oklahoma big cat enthusiasts “Joe Exotic,” Carole Baskin, and the wild cast of characters surrounding them proved irresistible. That the show wasn’t particularly good or well-made didn’t really matter. “Tiger King,” in all its tacky glory,...

‘Tiger King 2’ Reveals an Alleged Plot to Murder Joe Exotic, Questions About Don Lewis’ Disappearance and More
Image
Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched “Tiger King 2” on Netflix.

It has been a year and a half since “Tiger King” mania took over the newly-locked down world, and now Netflix is hoping to recapture that magic with “Tiger King 2.” This time around, though, the focus is much heavier on Carole Baskin and her missing former husband, Don Lewis.

The original docuseries — centering on a feud between big cat zoo owners and the tumultuous personal life and fame seeking of Joseph “Joe Exotic” Maldonado-Passage — first premiered on Netflix in March 2020, right when the Covid-19 pandemic was forcing people inside. A content consumption frenzy ensued, leading to directors Rebecca Chaiklin and Eric Goode filming enough additional footage to fill five more episodes.

There were several questions lingering at the end of “Tiger King” — most obviously, “Was Joe Exotic framed and will he get out of jail?...

Carole Baskin Sues Netflix for Using Footage of Her in ‘Tiger King 2’
Image
Carole Baskin is suing Netflix for using footage of her in the upcoming “Tiger King 2” series.

Baskin and her husband, Howard Baskin, filed suit in Tampa, Fla. on Monday against the streamer and production company Royal Goode Productions. According to the documents, obtained by Variety, Baskin alleges that Royal Goode Productions has breached contract by continuing to use footage of her and her husband in “Tiger King 2,” since they only signed appearance release forms for the first documentary. Netflix declined to comment on the matter.

“Understanding that the Appearance Releases limited Royal Goode Productions’ use of the footage of the Baskins and Big Cat Rescue to the single, initial documentary motion picture, the Baskins believed that any sequel – though odious – would not include any of their footage,” the document reads, also stating that the Baskins were surprised to see that footage of them was used in the trailer for “Tiger King 2.

Tiger King 2: Netflix Drops Bonkers Trailer
Joe Exotic in Tiger King (2020)
Tiger King 2 looks to be more bonkers than its predecessor.

Netflix on Wednesday dropped a full-length trailer for the forthcoming follow-up, and it looks pretty crazy.

“When you thought you’ve seen it all, you haven’t quite seen it all,” the clip teases.

“We have more money than God right now,” Jeff Lowe, who took over Joe’s zoo when he went to prison, says in the clip.

Joe is still incarcerated and unimpressed about everyone on the outside making a lot of money on the success of the original series.

At one point, he vows to make a deal with the devil, likely to get out of the big house.

The clip even touches upon the demands for Donald Trump to pardon him.

The trailer is a lot, and even though Carole Baskin has slammed the decision to bring the show back, it seems like there will...

Tiger King 2 Trailer Suggests Follow-Up Is About... Everyone But 'Joe Exotic'?
Image
A new trailer for Netflix’s Tiger King 2 suggests that 1) this follow-up is a round-up of mostly leftover Season 1 footage, 2) it will barely involve the imprisoned Joe Exotic, and 3) the rivalry with Carole Baskin will be revisited even though she very publicly distanced herself from the franchise.

Season 1, which was released early in the pandemic to a captive audience, tracked the rivalry between big cat “enthusiasts” Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel and Baskin. The feud took a dark turn when Schreibvogel — a mulleted, gun-toting polygamist, country singer and former gubernatorial candidate who presides over an Oklahoma roadside zoo — was arrested for...

Carole Baskin Slams ‘Tiger King 2’ Directors: ‘I Wouldn’t Call Them True Documentarians’ (Exclusive)
Image
Carole Baskin, a major figure in Netflix’s original “Tiger King” docuseries, has lashed out about the upcoming sequel, “Tiger King 2,” and its directors.

On Thursday, Netflix announced the new “Tiger King” series with brief footage of Baskin and Joe Exotic, with the latter phoning in from jail, where he is currently serving a 17-year sentence for attempting a murder-for-hire plot aimed at Baskin.

In a phone call with Variety on Thursday afternoon, Baskin said she knew that “Tiger King” directors Rebecca Chaiklin and Eric Goode were filming more content, but she didn’t expect it to be finished so soon, after the original docuseries premiered in March 2020 and took the world by storm.

“I know some people who have been involved in it and they were doing more filming, so I assumed at some point they would come out with a ‘Tiger King 2.’ It took them five years to put together the first one,...

Carole Baskin Slams ‘Tiger King’ For Portraying Her As A “Murderer”, Says Show Led To Death Threats
Image
Carole Baskin again has slammed Tiger King, saying that the Netflix docuseries, in its final form, was not what she expected.

“[Tiger King] was totally not what we had been told the series was going to be about,” she said on recently launched podcast The Tea With Dr. V, hosted by celebrity shrink and relationship guru Venus “Dr. V” Nicolino.

Following its debut on Netflix in March 2020, the show about big-cat owners and aficionados broke out as a pop culture sensation during Covid lockdowns, earning six Emmy nominations. While some of the attention it brought to Baskin was harmless — including plenty of memes — some of certainly wasn’t.

From the perspective of the big-cat activist, what was particularly problematic about Tiger King was that it made her out to be the villain — “a vicious, gold-digging, home-wrecking murderer,” she told Nicolino. This was in stark contrast, she said, to the way the show’s main subject,...

SXSW Review: WeWork: Or the Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn Explores the Dark Side of Disruptive Innovation
Many companies these days throw around terms like “innovation,” “digital transformation,” and “entrepreneurial culture” without actually doing anything unique, a core critique lobbied by NYU professor Scott Galloway when assessing the value of real-estate start-up WeWork, who was valued like a tech company rather than a real estate company. Jed Rothstein’s energetic business documentary WeWork: Or the Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn explores the toxic side of the real estate company later known as The We Company and its flamboyant founder Adam Neumann.

Raised on an Israeli kibbutz, Neumann arrives in New York to live with his model sister and creates the co-working space WeWork with Miguel McKelvey, who also grew up on a commune, though in Oregon. They envision not just shared office space like those run by Regus––which looked more like doctors’ offices than the hip Instagram-friendly spaces they designed––but a “capitalist...

‘Tiger King’ One Year Later: What’s the Latest on Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin?
Image
A year ago Saturday, Netflix launched the series “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness,” a fascinating character study filled with big cats, drugs, sex cults and some very questionable motives. Released at the beginning of an unprecedented quarantine lockdown, the seven-part documentary series quickly became one of the most talked-about shows in the world. Within the first month, the pop culture phenomenon was sampled by 64 million households worldwide.

As a result of the show’s success, there are many spinoff projects in the works. Investigation Discovery is developing a series titled “Investigating the Strange World of Joe Exotic,” which will serve as a direct sequel to “Tiger King” and investigate the disappearance of Carole Baskin’s husband. Kate McKinnon will star as Baskin in an upcoming limited series currently titled “Joe Exotic,” which received a multi-platform series order at NBCUniversal Television. Back in May, Variety exclusively reported that Nicolas Cage...

New Joe Exotic Documentary Claims Carole Baskin's Ex-Husband Was Strangled & Dumped Over Gulf

Carole Baskin's late husband Don Lewis was reportedly murdered in a plane and dumped in the gulf back in 1997. Joe Exotic: Tigers, Lies & Cover-Up, a new documentary currently airing on Discovery+, details the possible death of Lewis after years of speculation. Netflix's Tiger King became everybody's guilty pleasure when the public health crisis first started, bringing Carole Baskin back into the limelight, along with her missing ex-husband.

While Carole Baskin has definitely benefitted from the Netflix series, she doesn't think she was portrayed fairly. "The series presents this without any regard for the truth or in most cases even giving me an opportunity before publication to rebut the absurd claims," she said. "They did not care about truth. The unsavory lies are better for getting viewers." If Baskin wasn't happy with the Netflix docuseries, she probably isn't going to like the new Discovery+ doc either.

Tiger Attacks Staffer at Carole Baskin's Big Cat Rescue Sanctuary
Image
Carole Baskin is back in the news after a big cat attack at her tiger sanctuary left a staff member seriously injured. The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday morning when Hillsborough Fire Rescue responded to an animal attack call to Baskin's Big Cat Rescue, the Tampa-based sanctuary made famous by the hit Netflix series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness. Although the injuries sustained from the tiger were significant, they are fortunately not life-threatening.

Baskin and husband Howard explained the details of the incident to TMZ. Candy Couser, a longtime volunteer at Big Cat Rescue, was reportedly about to feed Kimba the tiger when she reached her hand into the enclosure to open the door. Kimba then "bit into her hand and started thrashing," nearly tearing Couser's arm off at the shoulder. The tiger then let go when other staff members ran over to the enclosure to assist Couser,...

Image
Tiger King star Joe Exotic and his legal team are feeling pretty good about their chances of getting the Netflix documentary star out of prison in the near future. As of now, Joe is about one year into a 22-year prison sentence on charges of animal abuse and allegedly plotting to have Big Cat Rescue CEO Carole Baskin murdered. For several months, his lawyers have been campaigning for President Donald Trump to give Joe a pardon, and should Trump follow through, Joe's team will already have a souped-up ride waiting for him.

Carole Baskin Gets Booted from Dancing with the Stars After Lion King Samba
Image
Paying homage to The Lion King was just not enough to keep Carole Baskin around on Dancing with the Stars, as the Tiger King star became the second celebrity contestant to be eliminated this season. Disney Night served as the theme for the third week of the dancing competition series, the contestants were tasked with dancing and dressing up appropriately for their choice of Disney song. You may not be surprised to learn that Baskin chose Elton John's "Circle of Life" as heard in The Lion King, and she even went so far as to perform a samba with partner Pasha Pashkov while wearing a lion costume.

While the judges were entertained by Baskin's costume, they were critical of her dancing abilities. In fact, the combined judges' score for the performance set the record for the all-time lowest score by any female celebrity in the history of the show.

Carole Baskin has faced a great deal of criticism since being cast on Dancing With the Stars. She has long been accused by critics and the family of her ex-husband Don Lewis of being involved in Lewis's disappearance. Now, the family is suing Baskin for defamation due to a joke said after her first performance on the dance competition show.

Baskin has achieved prominence following the success of the 2020 Netflix docuseries Tiger King. The devout cat activist and founder/CEO of Big Cat Rescue was featured in the quarantine hit as the arch-nemesis of Tiger King's star Joe Exotic. The docuseries reveals Carole's previous marriage to the wealthy business tycoon Don Lewis. The former couple was nearing separation when Lewis disappeared in 1997. After he was presumed dead, as a result of his disappearance, Baskin received the bulk share of his estate. Lewis' family has long been suspicious of Baskin's involvement in his vanishment.

Carole Baskin
The family of Carole Baskin’s late husband, Don Lewis, may have gotten the answers they were looking for when they aired an ad during the “Tiger King” star’s “Dancing With the Stars” debut on Monday.

According to the Lewis family’s lawyer, John M. Phillips, the slot has generated some “legitimate tips,” he told USA Today on Friday.

Of the more than 100 calls he says they’ve received, “there’s some pretty specific tips and locations mentioned that we’re gonna check out,” Phillips said.

He wouldn’t give specifics about the active investigation, but added that “some locations that we need to check out have been revealed. Some people we need to check out have been revealed,” and that they plan to “take some statements and see where it leads.”

The commercial slot, which you can watch here, centers on Lewis’ three daughters — Gale, Lynda and Donna — his former assistant,...

Carole Baskin Supports Dancing with the Stars Ad Launched by Missing Husband's Family
Image
Carole Baskin fully supports the family of Don Lewis airing a commercial during Dancing with the Stars. Lewis was married to Baskin and disappeared under mysterious circumstances in 1997. The family took out some money to air the ad, which is seeking information about Lewis' disappearance. The family mentioned Baskin by name in the commercial and offered up a $100,000 reward to anyone who comes forward with valid information about Lewis' disappearance.

When asked about the family of Don Lewis buying a commercial during her Dancing with the Stars debut, Carole Baskin said, it's "wonderful." She went on to add that if the mystery was solved as a result of the commercial on the hit dancing show, it would be a "side benefit." Fact: Not everyone fell under the spell of Tiger King's delightful draw. On Monday, Sept. 14 season 29 of Dancing With the Stars premiered (to a three-year ratings high!) and audiences waited with bated breath for the debut of Carole Baskin, the owner of a big-cat rescue in Florida who's at the center of the aforementioned hit Netflix docuseries. Baskin's performance to "Eye of the Tiger" (how appropriate) wasn't very good—she scored an 11 out of 30 points—yet headlines surrounding Dancing With the Stars largely remain focused on her. Why? As Tiger King fans might recall, rival cat lover Joe Exotic alleged Baskin killed her ex-husband, Don Lewis, and that she fed him to her...

How Carole Baskin’s Missing Ex-Husband’s Family Crashed Her ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Debut
Image
Just as ABC was getting ready last night to show “Tiger King” figure Carole Baskin on the dance floor, the family of her ex-husband devised plans to trip her up – and they weren’t difficult to put into motion.

Viewers watching ABC affiliates Wfts in Tampa and Wjxx in Jacksonville at just past 8:30 p.m. Monday night saw a commercial featuring three daughters of Don Lewis, Baskin’s second husband who has been missing since 1997 and was declared legally dead in 2002. In the spot, the trio and family attorney John Phillips ask area residents to come forward if they know anything about Lewis’ disappearance – or if they know that Baskin was involved.

“Don Lewis mysteriously disappeared in 1997. His family deserves answers. They deserve justice,” says Phillips in the commercial. “Do you know who did this or if Carole Baskin was involved?” The family mentions a potential reward of $100,000. Baskin...

Joe Exotic in Tiger King (2020)
Don Lewis’ Family Airs Commercial During Carole Baskin’s First Night on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ (Video)
Joe Exotic in Tiger King (2020)
As “Tiger King” star Carole Baskin made her debut performance on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” Monday, the family of her late husband, Don Lewis, was airing a commercial asking for answers about his mysterious disappearance.

To no one’s surprise, Baskin’s first number was “Eye of the Tiger” (watch that clip here). But all the dancing in the world won’t ease the minds of Lewis’ family — so they’re asking the general public to come forward with any information they might know.

The commercial slot, which was first reported by TMZ, centers on Lewis’ three daughters — Gale, Lynda and Donna — his former assistant, Anne McQueen and the family attorney, John M. Phillips. Together, they offer a $100,000 reward for information about their father’s 1997 disappearance, and Phillips asks viewers point-blank if they know whether Baskin was involved. They also provided a tip line for the case: 646-...

That was memorable!

Dancing With the Stars finally returned to ABC Monday night, but the biggest development happened during a commercial.

The commercial in question revolved around DWTS star Carole Baskin's missing husband Don Lewis.

The spot featured Lewis’ daughters, Gale, Lynda and Donna, his attorney John Phillips, and his former assistant, Anne McQueen, pleading with viewers for any leads in finding the missing millionaire, who disappeared in 1997.

“We need to know what happened to our father,” his eldest daughter, Donna, said in the clip. “Do you know if Carole Baskin was involved?” Phillips asked as he explained that the family is offering a $100,000 reward for information.

Carole Baskin’s Missing Husband’s Family Airs Commercial During Her ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Debut
Image
Carole Baskin faced scrutiny on “Tiger King” over the disappearance of her husband Don Lewis in 1997, and Lewis’ family reignited the mystery with a commercial that aired during Baskin’s debut on “Dancing With the Stars.”

The commercial aired during the “Dancing With the Stars” telecast Monday night in Tampa and Jacksonville, as well as other markets, Variety has confirmed. Lewis’ daughters, former assistant and family attorney asked that viewers with any information on Lewis’ disappearance or Baskin’s alleged involvement reach out to a tip line. They also said a $100,000 reward has been funded for the investigation.

Lewis’ disappearance became a hotly debated topic after people watched “Tiger King” on Netflix earlier this year. Many viewers, including several people interviewed on “Tiger King,” have alleged that Baskin killed Lewis by feeding him to tigers and disposing of any evidence in a meat grinder. Baskin has repeatedly denied allegations that...

Family of Carol Baskin's Missing Husband to Air Ad During Her Dancing with the Stars Debut
Image
Big Cat Rescue CEO Carole Baskin is set to make her primetime debut on Monday's new episode of Dancing With the Stars, but the family of her missing ex-husband, Don Lewis, are throwing a damper on the event. Becoming a worldwide superstar overnight with the release of the Netflix documentary Tiger King earlier this year, Baskin has been the subject of great controversy since being introduced to the world. It is believed by many viewers of the series that Baskin is somehow behind Lewis' disappearance, but as of now, there's no evidence to suggest that she was involved.

Still hoping to learn the truth about what happened to Lewis, his family filed a new lawsuit against Carole Baskin just last month. The suit, filed by Lewis' three surviving daughters, specifically seeks to have Baskin forced to formally testify on the record everything she knows about what might have happened with her ex-husband.
