Deadpool Creator Unpacks His Biggest Marvel Regret Following His Recent Exit
Image
In a Screen Rant exclusive interview during Comic-Con weekend, Rob Liefeld expressed regret for not maintaining better care of his copy of Giant-Size X-Men#1. Following his public Marvel exit, Liefeld is embarking on the comic industry's biggest wake-up call in recent memory after his direct-to-consumer launch of Youngblood #1 generated $500,000 in gross sales across five variant editions sold through his website.

Speaking to Screen Rant, Rob Liefeld explains how Giant-Size Youngblood is his way of paying homage to Giant-Size X-Men #1, which he wishes he kept better care of with regard to an original copy he had bought decades prior. Here is all that Liefeld says in full on the matter:

So I can tell you, so Giant-Size Youngblood is my tribute to Giant-Size X-Men No. 1, which came out in 1975. It's currently enjoying its 50th anniversary, and I was there, eight years old pulling it off. I never bought X-Men. I've talked at length how Angel,...

Deadpool's Rob Liefeld Knows Exactly How the Comics Industry Can Save Itself: "It's What People Want"
Image
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Deadpoolcreator Rob Liefeld stated that he firmly believes the future of the comic industry will rely on a “direct-to-consumer” model, which he argues is more of a reflection of “what people want” than how comic book publishers currently do business.

Speaking with Screen Rant, the Deadpool creator and Image Comics co-founder touched on his status as a “disruptor” in the industry, saying it’s a role he didn’t necessarily want, but is willing to play.

That includes more than just pushing the boundaries of comic storytelling, but also reimagining how the business of comics can operate.

Exclusive: Rob Liefeld Says "Direct-To-Consumer" Is The Future Of The Comic Book Industry Excerpt From Liefeld's San Diego Comic-Con 2025 Interview With Screen Rant

Does Youngblood's $500,000 Milestone Represent a Seismic Change for the Entire Comic Industry?
Image
Rob Liefeld just sold a direct-to-consumer copy of Youngblood #1 for $500,000. Liefeld himself is just coming off the heels of a public spat with Marvel Comics that left his career as a writer/artist in question. Now, by embarking on independent avenues, Liefeld has made it clear that there are new ways for him to find success.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rob Liefeld launched a bespoke, direct-to-consumer version of Youngblood #1 that he made available to his fanbase via her website last April, generating $500,000 through five editions with different covers. Liefeld had this to say to THR:

I believe comic book talent, just like the studios, need different revenue streams. Direct to consumer is a giant revenue stream. When Marvel and DC decide to tap that vein that I just tapped into, it will be massive.

It's also worth noting that THR's report arrives with exclusive cover images from Erik M.

Rob Liefeld’s ‘Youngblood’ No. 1 Passes $500,000 in Sales, New Edition Planned
Image
Hollywood has taken some of Rob Liefeld’s creations and put them on the big screen. Now, he is taking lessons from Hollywood for his latest comic. Liefeld has watched as in recent years, with the box office struggling, revenues from ancillary markets have become more important for the lifecycle of a movie. (See: Wicked’s massive $100 million PVOD sales.)

For Youngblood No. 1, Liefeld tried a similar tactic. He launched a bespoke, direct to consumer version of the book that he sold directly to fans on his website in April. The experiment worked and now reveals to The Hollywood Reporter that the book generated $500,000 in sales across five editions featuring different covers.

“I believe comic book talent, just like the studios, need different revenue streams,” says Liefeld. “Direct to consumer is a giant revenue stream. When Marvel and DC decide to tap that vein that I just tapped into, it will be massive.

A Memorium in Four Colours – Jim Shooter
Image
This week we say goodbye to a true, true titan of comics history, as Jim Shooter pulls his chair up to the great writing, editing desk in the sky. Normally, when I have been doing these obituaries, I have passed over divisive elements of people’s careers. I don’t believe Shooter set out to be divisive in his distinguished career; he made decisions based on his love for comics. So the good, the bad and the ugly will remain this time and don’t think Shooter would have had it any other way. Living on the other side of the pond from all the big comics news, I discover things in different ways. On the morning of July 1st, I woke to an Instagram post from Marc Bernardin showing the cover to Secret Wars #4. Was he just posting a favourite cover or an image related to some movie news?...

Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel is 10/10: Deadpool Creator Makes a Controversial Statement
Image
Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld recently weighed in on his favorite DC movie, Man of Steel, and shared a pretty controversial take. On June 27, 2025, known industry scooper @MyTimeToShineH posed a simple question on X: “What DC movie is a 10/10?” And Rob Liefeld responded with Man of Steel.

The 2013 film, directed by Zack Snyder, starred Henry Cavill as Superman and marked the beginning of the DC Extended Universe. Though it received mixed reviews upon release, the film has built a solid fan base over time, especially among those who love its gritty tone and modern twist on the classic hero.

Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has been Team Man of Steel from day one, praising everything from Snyder’s bold direction to Cavill’s super-powered performance. His latest tweet calling the movie a “10/10” is just another notch in his long history of backing the film.

Beau DeMayo Slams Marvel’s X-Men Reboot Director as a “Pathetic Choice,” Says Marvel Studios Has “Plantation Country Club Vibes”
Image
Beau DeMayo, once praised as a rising star at Marvel Studios for his work on the well-received animated series X-Men ’97, was unexpectedly fired before the show even aired. The reasons behind his sudden removal were initially unknown, but Marvel later disclosed that an internal probe found allegations of sexual misconduct against him, which led to his dismissal.

Since then, DeMayo has been openly critical of Marvel, accusing the company of racism and homophobia through his posts on OnlyFans. He has even hinted at possibly suing the studio over his treatment.

Recently, DeMayo took aim at Marvel’s choice for the director of the upcoming X-Men reboot, Jake Schreier, who also directed the film Thunderbolts*. On social media, DeMayo harshly criticized this hiring decision. He claimed Schreier was selected not for his talent but because he fits a certain profile that Hollywood favors.

Deadpool Creator Tells Snyderverse Fans: “It’s Over”
Image
July 11, 2025, isn’t just the release date of Superman. It’s also the official beginning of James Gunn’s Dcu and the official end of Zack Snyder’s Dceu. It’s the moment the baton gets passed, or maybe gets ripped from the grip of die-hard Snyder fans kicking and screaming into the new era. See, while Superman fans are excited to see David Corenswet don the cape and Gunn’s lighter tone take flight, not everyone is happy. Some Snyderverse loyalists have already declared war on Gunn’s film before it even hits theatres. But in the middle of the DC war, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has stepped into the fray with a clear message: “It’s over.” Posting on X, Liefeld wrote: “I understand the Snyderverse disappointment – I loved Mos, enjoyed the Jl Snydercut. I talked of this on my podcast. I realize that they have anger towards...

Rob Liefeld, the Creator of Deadpool, Is Determined to Work on Superman Whether DC Likes It or Not
Image
Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has an idea for a Superman story, and he plans on making it a reality once the rights to the legendary character hit the public domain in 2034. Liefeld just made a contentious exit from Marvel Comics after decades of on/off collaboration, and while fans likely shouldn’t expect to find him working for DC anytime soon, a Superman story isn’t entirely off the table.

Liefeld appeared as the guest on “Millar Time,” fellow comic book author Mark Millar’s podcast, where both of them teased the idea of doing Superman stories outside the banner of DC Comics a decade from now.

“You just gotta stay alive, Mark,” Liefeld said, explaining that the prospect of this future story has become almost mantra-like for him: “every day I go, 'I have to stay alive to do my Superman.” For those who might be unfamiliar with Rob Liefeld,...

It's True, the Creator of Marvel's Civil War Has a Follow-Up In Mind, But It's "Too Political" for Disney
Image
Mark Millar, the author behind Marvel’s groundbreaking Civil War crossover, says he he has had discussions about making a triumphant return to the publisher for another major event series, but that the only idea he is willing to come back to do is “quite politically tricky” for Marvel’s parent company, Disney. Yet Millar assured fans he is “working in the background” to make the idea a reality.

In the latest episode of his “Millar Time” podcast, Millar sat down with author Rob Liefeld, who recently completed his own high-profile exit from Marvel Comics after penning one final Deadpool miniseries. The two touched on what would get Millar to work for Marvel, after a nearly fifteen-year period away from the company.

Liefeld teased that he has some idea of the event series Millar has in mind, though he went only so far as to tease, “Damn. I would read that.

Why Is the MCU In a Slump? Marvel Knows, And the Problem Goes Well Beyond Movies: "Generic People Create Generic Products."
Image
With billions of dollars to its name, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a singular franchise. After getting its start in 2008 with Iron Man, the MCU has become a pop culture juggernaut given its string of blockbuster movies. Of course, the films only came to life because of Marvel Comics, the publisher that brought heroes like Captain America to life decades ago. In recent years, however, Marvel as a whole has been caught in a slump that one creator is now speaking out about.

The conversation regarding the MCU and Marvel Comics slump made its way online this week on Millar Time. The podcast, which is hosted by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, brought in Mark Millar to chat. It was there the comic legends spoke about the success of Deadpool & Wolverine at the box office, and the discussion quickly turned to the ongoing fatigue Marvel is facing on all fronts.

"Don't Create Anything Here": Stan Lee Was Marvel's Greatest Champion, But He Had 1 Problem With the Brand

Stan Lee is the progenitor of all things great about Marvel Comics, but the legendary creator ultimately had some harsh words of advice for authors and artists seeking to follow in his footsteps at the publisher, as relayed by another iconic writer, Mark Millar, who revealed that Lee advised him: “don’t create anything here.”

In the latest episode of his “Millar Time” podcast, Mark Millar sat down with Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, who recently had his own messy break-up with Marvel, for a wide-ranging discussion, which included touching on Stan Lee’s legacy at Marvel.

According to Millar, Lee advised him to develop characters and stories independently, rather than under the auspices of Marvel, a piece of advice that ultimately led to a flourishing “Millarverse” comic book continuity, covering the past twenty-five years of the author’s career.

“Losing $100 Million”: Deadpool Creator Hints Kevin Feige Should Be Fired From MCU After Thunderbolts*

Something’s not quite right in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and with each release, it’s becoming increasingly obvious. Fans have started to feel that the studio, which once set gold standards for box office dominance, has recently taken a string of blows that people couldn’t have predicted five years ago, and now, Thunderbolts* seems to have joined this lineup.

There’s disappointment and growing dissatisfaction among fans and creators alike. Voices that were once associated with Marvel have also begun to criticize its creative legacy. And maybe it’s needed because where’s the spark, who’s steering the ship, and should someone be fired for this?

Marvel Legend Peter David Passed Away, The Man Who Created Maestro Hulk and Spider-Man Variant Miguel O’Hara
Image
We love watching the magic of Marvel unfold in front of our eyes, whether it’s through live-action, animation, or the good ol’ comic books. However, none of this could be possible without the brilliant minds behind the scenes that bring our favorite characters to life and shape the stories we hold dear. Unfortunately, we have to say goodbye to one of those brilliant minds – Peter David.

Peter David wasn’t just a writer. He was a storyteller who knew how to dig deep into the heart of a character. Whether it was the raging inner conflict of the Hulk, the time-hopping chaos of X-Factor, or the cosmic adventures of Spider-Man 2099, the man knew how to keep you hooked from start to finish. The world will miss him.

Marvel Has Completely Screwed Over Ironheart’s Co-Creator: “A small share of that success feels only fair”
Image
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is all set to return to the screens with tons of new projects lined up, though the one closest to release this year seems to be garnering quite a bit of attention as compared to the rest. The next live-action piece in the talk is none other than Ironheart, the forthcoming television miniseries set to hit the screens in June this year.

One to have many more new faces debut in the universe after taking birth from the comics, this streaming show will be based on the comics of the same name. However, the surprising part is that Marvel is allegedly continuing with its unfair treatment of its comic book creators, considering co-creator Mike Deodato’s recent complaints about the same.

Riri Williams Co-creator Says Marvel Didn't Pay Him Anything For Ironheart Disney+ Series
Image
When characters or storylines created by comic book writers and artists appear in Marvel films or series, the original creators are typically compensated with a one-time payment rather than ongoing royalties.

This compensation is generally modest, often cited as being around $5,000, and usually comes with an invite to the project’s red carpet premiere.

It's a gesture of goodwill on Marvel's part as often times, the company brings in artists and writers on "work-for-hire" agreements, and any characters, places, or other intellectual property created end up being owned by Marvel Comics and not the artists and writers.

This payout is frequently viewed more as a symbolic gesture than true compensation—an unspoken nod to the creator’s contribution, rather than a share proportionate to the massive profits these adaptations often earn.

'Deadpool' Co-Creator Rob Liefeld's Marvel Beef Continues as He Debunks Ryan Reynolds' New Movie Claims
Image
Ryan Reynolds recently shocked the Deadpoolfandom by teasing that he might be working on a new movie featuring Wade Wilson. But, while the internet eagerly awaits Deadpool's MCU return, Rob Liefeld, the creator of The Merc With a Mouth, has taken to social media to dispute the claim. Unfortunately, Ryan Reynolds' upcoming project, which many believe to be a Deadpool/MCU team-up movie couldn't be further from the that.

Following Ryan Reynolds' recent tease, Rob Liefeld continued his ongoing beef with Marvel by taking to X (formerly Twitter) to dispute the idea of a fourth Deadpool film being in the works. After Reynolds said "I'm writing a little something right now. It's an assemble," while discussing Deadpool & Wolverine and the character's future, Liefeld revealed that the actor was talking about a completely unrelated project. Liefeld responded:

"Gentle reminder that he is writing a movie called 'Boy Band'"

Deadpool Co-Creator Debunks Reports That Ryan Reynolds Is Writing An "Ensemble" Movie For Marvel Studios
Image
Earlier this week, comments from Ryan Reynolds went viral, suggesting the actor was working on a new Deadpool project.

Talking about why he thinks the Merc with the Mouth works better not being in The Avengers or X-Men, Reynolds said, "I'm writing something right now... It’s a little ensemble, but I like that he's isolated."

Given that he was talking about Wade Wilson in the same breath, it's easy enough to see why what he said was mistaken for apparent confirmation that a new Deadpool project is in development. Now, the character's co-creator, Rob Liefeld, has set the record straight on social media.

"Gentle reminder that he is writing a movie called 'Boy Band,'" he pointed out on X.

We've done some digging, and yes, Boy Band is almost certainly the movie that Reynolds was referring to. While the actor is expected to appear in one or...

Deadpool's Creator Shoots Down Those Rumors Triggered By Ryan Reynolds' Comments
Image
Co-creator of Deadpool, Rob Liefeld, has shot down rumors that Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds is currently writing a new project featuring the Merc With a Mouth. Liefeld was responding to Deadpool Updates' post on X about the actor revealing to Time magazine he was crafting a new film.

The acclaimed comic book creator, who recently vowed never to work with Marvel again, clarified that Reynolds was writing an entirely different project. "Gentle reminder that he is writing a movie called Boy Band," Liefeld wrote in response to the post, "Ryan Reynolds has revealed that he's currently writing a new Deadpool project." Reynolds had teased, "I'm writing a little something right now. It's an ensemble." If a fourth installment of Deadpool were to get off the ground, Liefeld would almost certainly have no role to play after breaking ties with Marvel following his alleged poor treatment by the company.

Ryan Reynolds is Writing a New Deadpool Project But Says Joining the Avengers Would Kill the Character

Deadpool fans had to wait a long time to see the character make his first entry in the MCU, but it seems that now he is here, we are going to be seeing a lot more of him as Ryan Reynolds is already writing the next chapter in the Deadpool franchise. What is more, he also revealed an unexpected plan he pitched to Marvel Studios that would have taken the character into a completely different medium to any other Marvel project.

Speaking to Time Magazine’s Eliana Dockterman, Reynolds was asked about what the future looks like for his multi-billion-dollar franchise, to which he replied:

“I’m writing a little something right now which is like an ensemble, but it's…I like things isolated. If Deadpool becomes an Avenger or X-Men we’re at the end and that’s his wish fulfilment, and you can’t give him that.”

Deadpool Creator Calls For Marvel Comics Executives To Be Fired

Rob Liefeld is not one to hold his tongue. After severing ties with Marvel Comics in 2024 after completing his work on Deadpool Team-Up, he’s been somewhat openly critical towards Marvel Comics. Why Rob Liefeld Flew to Arizona to Pick Up His Newest Comic from the Printers
Image
A few weeks ago, Rob Liefeld flew to Arizona to see his latest comic fresh off the printers. Holding the books in his hands, he admired the artistry, from the quality of the paper to the feel of the spine. A few hours later, he boarded a return flight to California, carrying with him 80 comics across five different editions of Youngblood, the title that launched Image Comics in 1992.

It’s almost unheard of for a creator to hand-select every detail about a book, much less transport the copies themselves. But Liefeld wanted to try something new for the 33rd anniversary of Youngblood, with each edition of this comic only available to buy on his website, or at a one-day only signing Wednesday at Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles.

The idea was last minute for Liefeld, who decided in late February that he wanted to celebrate the Youngblood anniversary with a new book,...

Deadpool veteran says it's time for Kevin Feige to leave Marvel
Image
It has been an interesting couple of years for the folks over at Marvel Studios. The undisputed champion of the all-time box office, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has experienced some uncharacteristic low points in recent years that have resulted in fans questioning whether all good things - even uber-successful ones like the MCU - must come to an end.

It's a good question, but it likely doesn't carry much weight. Honestly, the MCU clearly still has a lot of appeal., but some of its creative processes have resulted in a lack of interest for specific titles from general audiences. That's why projects like Eternals, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Eternals struggled at the box office.

There are highs and lows to everything. What's most impressive is that the MCU generally sidestepped lows for 15 years; it's okay to have a few now. The Multiverse Saga hasn't had the smoothest of runs,...

Rob Liefeld Takes Another Shot at Marvel While Reflecting on His Captain America Revival: “Yes, my Cap was a blast”
Image
Recently, Rob Liefeld cut ties with Marvel, citing mistreatment by Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios. He felt snubbed at the Deadpool & Wolverine premiere in July 2024, where he and his family were excluded from the afterparty, professional photos of him were deleted, and he received no red carpet acknowledgment.

His issues with Marvel date back to 2023 when the company credited Roy Thomas as a co-creator of Wolverine, upsetting Liefeld, who was close to Len Wein’s widow. In 2024, he requested more prominent credit for Deadpool & Wolverine, but Marvel reportedly reacted negatively, leading to further fallout.

Despite his long history with Marvel, which included significant contributions to Deadpool and Cable, Liefeld ultimately decided to sever ties due to ongoing tensions and perceived disrespect.

Ryan Reynolds is one of Hollywood's most popular leading men, with a series of successful blockbusters. However, nothing comes close to his passion project, the Deadpool franchise.

After Rob Liefeld's Exit, Deadpool Is Gearing Up For a Big Milestone and a New Villain
Image
Deadpool is on the verge of a big change, not just because of his upcoming 350th comic issue, but also due to the introduction of a fresh new villain. While Deadpool #15 will celebrate this huge milestone, the new addition to Deadpool's rogues gallery comes with some loaded feelings. This shift comes shortly after the departure of the character's creator, signaling a new chapter for the Merc with a Mouth.

Written and illustrated by Cody Ziglar, Gerry Duggan, and Sanshiro Kasama, Deadpool #15 introduces Kurami, a deadly assassin who will join Deadpool’s extensive list of foes. Kurami, a tech-assisted, low-vision character, brings a fresh and unique challenge for Deadpool, both physically and mentally.

This new addition to the rogue gallery is exciting, yet the timing is bittersweet, as it comes right after Rob Liefeld’s departure from Marvel. Despite Liefeld’s exit, Deadpool’s journey continues, now under the guidance of...

Daredevil: Born Again Episodes 2 And 3 Were Originally Intended To Be The Show's Pilot
Image
Though there have been conflicting reports on exactly how different Daredevil: Born Again would have been prior to the major creative overhaul, we know that some big changes were made to bring the Disney+ series more in line with the original Netflix Daredevil show.

Stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio have indicated that they played a part in convincing Marvel Television that making a fourth season (for all intents and purposes) was the right move, and Michael Cuesta - who directed episodes 2 and 3 as well as the original pilot - has now shared some intriguing new details.

Apparently, episodes 2 and 3 were the original pilot.

Cuesta's full interview with Phase Hero doesn't go live until after tonight's episode, but this would obviously suggest that the events of the first episode of Born Again - Foggy's death, that Bullseye fight sequence, the sit-down between Murdock and Fisk - were not going to be depicted.

Documentary on Stan Lee Alleges Exploitation of the Marvel Comics Legend in Final Years of His Life
Image
A new documentary on Marvel Comics co-creator Stan Lee claims that Lee was mistreated and exploited by some of those in his inner circle during the last few years of his life.

Jon Bolerjack, a comic book artist and a former assistant to Lee during the last four years of Lee’s life, filmed the documentary and on Tuesday launched a Kickstarter campaign looking for funding to complete the film, titled “Stan Lee: The Final Chapter.” In a trailer for the movie, Bolerjack says Lee spent “his final years enduring mistreatment, manipulation, and betrayal at the hands of a few very bad actors.”

Bolerjack says the film includes interviews with other witnesses close to Lee and with comic book creators like Rob Liefeld and Roy Thomas. It also concludes with a string of interviews with other comic book artists who have seen an early cut of the footage discussing what...

Stan Lee: The Final Chapter trailer chronicles the highs and lows of the Marvel Comics legend’s final years

Few faces in the wide world of Marvel Entertainment are as iconic as Stan Lee. Throughout his storied career, Lee co-created legendary characters like Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, the Fantastic Four, Black Panther, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, and Black Widow. When the Marvel Cinematic Universe captured the attention of millions, Lee’s cameos became the ultimate Easter egg of any cinematic franchise. There’s no end to his influence throughout the comic book community. However, in the trailer for a new documentary Stan Lee: The Final Chapter, Lee’s assistant, Jon Bolerjack, says Lee’s final years were challenging in ways fans cannot fathom.

The Russo Brothers know exactly what makes Kevin Feige tick, and they’re making sure Secret Wars and Doomsday don’t fall into the same trap. While the MCU’s been guilty of a few storytelling misfires, Feige has one particular pet peeve that keeps creeping into major projects.

2025 Oscars: Deadpool Crashes Conan O'Brien's Musical Number
Image
The 2025 Oscars ceremony featured a mystifying musical number in its opening segment, which included a nod to Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool character from the MCU. Uncharacteristically, the Merc With a Mouth didn't have anything to say on this occasion, but instead treated attendees and viewers of the 97th Academy Awards to a brief dance performance in a song that host Conan O'Brien ironically called "I Won't Waste Time" (despite doing exactly that).

This year's Oscars will be remembered for a lot of things, but one moment that is certain to live rent-free in people's heads is the musical number that opened the show. O'Brien commanded the stage with a baton in hand, as he introduced various characters from popular movies, including the sandworm from Dune: Part Two playing chopsticks on the piano and "someone who wasn't even nominated... Dancing Deadpool."

10 Best Marvel Characters Who Embraced '90s Tropes
Image
Some see Marvel Comics' heyday as either the Silver Age of Comics or the 1980s, with the latter being an era where almost every major character and franchise had great ongoing titles. The 1990s were a much more infamous decade, both for Marvel and comic books as a whole. Grim and gritty were in, and this saw several characters in the Marvel Universe hit it bigger than others.

The 1990s catapulted several Marvel heroes and antiheroes into stardom, be they X-Ceptional mutants or symbiotic Lethal Protectors. This time period defined Marvel's X-Men in particular, and they had just the right amount of edge for the era. The same was true for various vigilantes and antiheroes, who shined brighter than ever in the Dark Ages of Comics.

Ryan Reynolds Was Almost 2024's Highest-Paid Actor (But His 2020 Competition Beat Him Again)
Image
Ryan Reynolds has proven that his films bring people to the theater. His third Deadpool installment, Deadpool & Wolverine, was the biggest live-action film of 2024 and the second-highest-grossing title of the year.

However, even with his gross, Reynolds didn't score the highest paycheck of the year. Forbes officially released the new top 10 for the highest-paid actors of 2024, which includes 9 actors and an actress. While Reynolds didn't top the chart, he was a close second, with only $3 million behind his 2020 competition.

A key element of the first installment will be replaced in the upcoming sequel.

Although Reynolds' Deadpool & Wolverine grossed $1.33 billion worldwide, he lost the first spot to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Reynolds had a paycheck of $85 million (with a $100 million gross), while The Rock returned to the top of the charts with $88 million...

5 Reasons Why Captain America: Brave New World Bombed at the Box Office
Image
Captain America: Brave New World might be nearing a $300 million global box office collection, however, it is considered a disaster. Fans should note that the budget of the film is $180 million and the film still has to make it past roughly $350 million to break even.

The film received mixed reviews from viewers, who weren’t convinced of Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson as the next Captain America after Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers. Fans were divided on the film’s political commentary, story, and characterization. However, Harrison Ford’s performance as the Red Hulk received praise.

The New Captain America's Disappointing Reception Is Actually Part of a 10-Year-Old Problematic Marvel Trend
Image
Quick LinksMarvel's Most Controversial Era Was the Wrong Basis for the MCUSam Wilson Had No Lead-Up to Becoming Captain AmericaGuardians of the Galaxy Was an Exception, Not the Rule

Captain America: Brave New Worldhas now been out for a few weeks, and the movie's fate may already be sealed. While it had a more than respectable opening weekend, its tepid-at-best reviews have yielded a box office intake that may see it end up flopping. Unfortunately, this cements many current issues with Marvel Studios, especially when it comes to Sam Wilson.

Making Sam Wilson into the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new Captain America emulates the largely unsuccessful "All-New, All-Different" era of Marvel Comics, making the decision incredibly questionable. The character's transition into the role was even more haphazard than it was in the comics, which may have impacted viewer reception. Furthermore, it seems that Marvel Studios is now unable to get its...

Why Is Deadpool's Co-Creator Pissed at Marvel? Rob Liefeld's Feud With Kevin Feige, Explained
Image
If you like the Deadpool movies, or Deadpool in general, you have Rob Liefeld to thank, as he co-created the character with Fabian Nicieza in The New Mutants #98. Over the years, Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson has become both a box office draw and a highly popular character within the Marvel Universe. That's no mean feat, especially for a character who made his debut in the self-proclaimed "Dark Age" of comics, but it's also Deadpool's popularity that might have led to a massive divide between Liefeld and Marvel.

'Not What We Hired You to Do': Ryan Reynolds Allegedly 'Really Upset' the Crew of His 25-Year-Old Horror Comedy
Image
Ryan Reynolds is a fan-favorite actor, whose role as a leading actor grossed over $4.4 billion at the worldwide box office. Now synonymous with the role of Deadpool, the actor is easily defined by his cheek-in-tongue, self-deprecating humor.

Over the years, Reynolds made a name for himself with roles that often poked fun at himself, whether in action, comedy, or more. While the actor proved his range in films like 2008's Fireflies in the Garden, 2010's Buried, and 2014's Voices, it was his comedy roles that won the public over and enchanted the critics. However, in a new episode of Brotherly Love Podcast, hosted by actor Matthew Lawrence and his brothers Joey and Andy, Matthew opened up about his experience with Reynolds on the set of 1998's Boltneck, where the Canadian actor reportedly "really upset" the crew.

Channing Tatum's Canceled 'Gambit' Marvel Movie Would Have Been a "Screwball" Rom-Com
Image
While many were excited to see the titular heroes, played by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman respectively, finally join the MCU in 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine, the breakout star of the film was arguably Channing Tatum's Gambit. The character was finally given the live-action treatment he deserved in the blockbuster hit, with Tatum also fulfilling his own childhood dream of playing the character on the big screen. Most Marvel fans know that the actor was previously in talks to star as Gambit in his own standalonemovie, which would have been set in Fox's X-Men universe. But, no one really knew what the movie would actually have been about... until now.

During an interview with Business Insider, Lizzy Caplan, who would have co-starred with Channing Tatum in the movie, revealed a lot about the canceled Gambit movie. "We got down the road, we were gonna shoot it," Caplan said of...

“I get to write the movies, and you don’t”: Roberto Orci Told Star Trek Fans to “F— Off” While Dissing Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones In the Process
Image
Writer and producer Roberto Orci has never been the one to hold back. The Star Trek and Transformers writer had a fiery personality, both on and off the screen—which often landed him in hot waters, turning him into an infamous personality. But that didn’t stop him from engaging with fans—which sometimes turned into full-blown internet brawls.

One such infamous moment happened during his 2013 meltdown on TrekMovie.com, where he told Star Trek fans to “f— off”, while bizarrely dragging Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones into the mix. It was classic Roberto Orci—bold, unfiltered, and unapologetic. Unfortunately, the man is no longer with us—Orci passed away on February 25.

Roberto Orci, 'Star Trek' & 'Transformers' Writer/Producer, Dead at 51
Image
Roberto Orci, one of the co-writers of some of the biggest sci-fi franchises in the 21st century, has sadly passed away at 51 following a battle with kidney disease at his home in Los Angeles. Born in Mexico City on July 20, 1973, Orci moved to the United States with his family when he was ten years old. He developed a lifelong passion for sci-fi franchises like Star Trek and Transformers, two series that he was instrumental in reshaping.

Roberto Orci's passing is certainly one that will leave shock waves, as he was one of the most prolific screenwriters of the 2000s and 2010s whose work likely influenced many. His work on Transformers and Star Trek reshaped both franchises and kick-started a new era in sci-fi blockbusters. Orci's brother, J.R., released a statement following the writer's passing.

“He was a visionary storyteller with a boundless heart and a beautiful soul. But beyond his creative talents,...

‘Deadpool’ Co-Creator Demands Marvel ‘Get Feige Off The Mound’ After Latest Lukewarm Opening
Image
It’s only fitting that the writer who co-created the Merc with the Mouth would also refuse to shut up when it came to mocking everything Marvel.

Few figures in the comic book world are as divisive or as outspoken as former Marvel writer Rob Liefeld, who most famously invented the character Deadpool with fellow comics veteran Fabian Nicieza. Though the beloved super-anti-hero’s now-signature ability to break the fourth wall and endlessly banter with his friends, enemies and audience is an invention of later writers, ever since Deadpool became a household name, Liefeld has taken after his creation’s iconoclastic style and picked numerous fights with both Marvel and Disney brass while Ryan Reynolds transforms the Deadpool brand into a veritable movie empire.

Above all else, Liefeld’s public beef is with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and his treatment of the comic book artists and writers whose work...

Star Wars Production Company Expected to Undergo Major Shakeup in 2025
Image
The 2025 landscape is experiencing a lot of shakeups in the film industry. After Sony CEO Tony Vinciquerra ended its run at the beginning of the year, Disney had a major shakeup to its live-action films, and other major changes happened at other big studios and production companies, including Lucasfilm.

George Lucas founded the major TV and film production company in 1971, and it has been the home of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, among many others. Since 2012, Lucasfilm has become a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Studios. Per The Hollywood Reporter, longtime producer and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is expected to retire this year.

Rob Liefeld calls for Marvel’s Kevin Feige to resign
Image
You can hold the #1 spot at the box office and still be a tremendous disappointment. Captain America: Brave New World fell to #2 last week, holding off The Monkey but still only pulling in $28.2 million, a nearly 70% fall from its opening weekend. Considering the budget has been pegged to be around the neighborhood of $300 million, you best believe there’s some backlash towards Marvel. Chiming in on the decline of Marvel now is none other than Rob Liefeld, creator of Deadpool.

Responding to the box office drop that Marvel’s Brave New World had in week two, Rob Liefeld wrote on X, “Get Feige off the mound. He’s spent.” In two separate posts, he wrote in part, “MCU is on an extended downside. This is beyond a trend, it’s become the norm. If this was sports, Feige would be removed.
