We're so used to seeing Tommy Lee Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger) act in some of our favorite movies that we often forget that the Oscar winner is also an accomplished director and screenwriter. One of his projects, the 2014 western The Homesman, is a massively underrated gem — but, thanks to Vizio+, you will be able to stream the movie for free as early as August 1.
The Homesmanis set in the mid-19th century and follows George Briggs (Jones), a man who is saved from a terrible fate by Mary Bee Cuddy (Yellowjackets' Hilary Swank), who conditions his rescue to helping her on a dangerous mission: she needs to transport three women across the country through a harsh winter and not let any of them die. The story is based on the 1988 novel of the same name written by Glendon Swarthout.
For the cast, Jones was able to assemble some huge names.

Kevin Costner and Kurt Russell have long been two of Hollywood’s biggest action stars, and their collaboration in 3000 Miles to Graceland should have been the ultimate combination. Both actors had long been considered A-listers, with Costner enjoying a prime run of hits like The Untouchables, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and Dances with Wolves, while Russell’s filmography included Tombstone, Big Trouble in Little China, and Tango & Cash. So, when they teamed up for 3000 Miles to Graceland, it seemed like a surefire way to give audiences an unforgettable ride of mayhem, heists, and revenge. However, the film’s tone and execution resulted in one of the most divisive action films of the early 2000s.
However, while the film’s critical reception was scathing, it found a cult following among audiences who appreciated its over-the-top action, wild plot twists, and absurd humor. Many fans have since embraced...

Kevin Costner's sudden exit from Taylor Sheridan's "Yellowstone" might have left fans reeling, but one of the reasons behind the split can be traced back to an ever-evolving Sheridan-verse rife with prequels and spin-offs. Of course, there are a ton of variables to consider regarding the situation, such as alleged scheduling conflicts with a Costner passion project or time-consuming production schedules and the lack of a workable script for the series' "season 5B." A clash of statements and perspectives prevents us from understanding what truly happened here, but this is not the first time Costner has butted heads with a coworker -- as something incredibly unexpected happened on the set of "3000 Miles to Graceland," a 2001 action-comedy in which the actor starred alongside Kurt Russell.
The thing about "3000 Miles to Graceland" is that it is a heist film that wants to be ultra-violent and amusing all at once,...

As far as brief internet research has uncovered, Kurt Russell is the only actor in history to have acted next to Elvis Presley, to have played Elvis Presley, and to have played an Elvis Presley impersonator. The first was in "It Happened at the World's Fair" in 1963, when the 12-year-old Russell infamously kicked Elvis in the shin. The second was in the biographical miniseries "Elvis," release in 1979 and directed by John Carpenter. The third, as easily the least popular, was Demian Lichtenstein's 2001 heist movie "3000 Miles to Graceland," a largely forgotten and critically lambasted piece of scuzz cinema on the latter-edge of Quentin Tarantino knockoffs.
And we all likely remember the post-"Pulp Fiction" era with clarity. Many filmmakers tried to capture the flippant violence and ultra-witty banter that Tarantino pioneered, to largely mixed results. "Thing to Do in Denver When You're Dead," "2 Days in the Valley," "Goodbye Lover,...

In Norman Taurog's 1963 film "It Happened at the World's Fair," Elvis Presley plays a crop-duster pilot named Mike whose crop-dusting plane was just repossessed by the local sheriff. While hitchhiking home, wondering how he'll get the money to buy back his plane, Mike comes upon the Seattle World's Fair. There, he instantly becomes smitten with a local nurse named Diane Warren (not to be confused with songwriter Diane Warren) played by Joan O'Brien.
To manufacture a reason to see the Fair's nurse, Mike pulls an 11-year-old boy out of the crowd and offers to pay the kid a quarter in exchange for a really, really hard kick to the shin. The kid is thrilled to have the money and dutifully thwacks the stranger. As Mike limps away, the kid mutters to himself "Adults. They're all nuts." The unnamed character was played by an uncredited Kurt Russell making his feature film debut.

It's not just a simple bank heist in the first episode of this web series based on the upcoming "Payday 2" directed by filmmaker Demian Lichtenstein.
Developers 505 Games (a spinoff of "Syndicate" remake studio, Starbreeze) collaborated on the series of "Payday 2" shorts which, at this stage, have a real paranoid vibe to them, with a little bit of a Robin Hood angle for its bank robbing antiheroes. It's a real departure from the essentially amoral first game, which borrowed its aesthetic and mood from the career criminal action flicks like "Heat" or "Thief."
You can look for new episodes of "Payday 2" every two weeks leading up to the release of the game in August.

The $25 million movie will star Kiwi actor Karl Urban. It will shoot this September in Puerto Rico, produced by Eric Mitchell. Its the story of four extreme sports professionals who survive a plane crash in the Amazon jungle, and must use all their survival instincts as they are hunted by a group of homicidal natives. I can only hope that these natives are thirsting for some human flesh, if not... we won't cover this any more (wink).
