They thought it was safe to go back into the water….
There’s been a bit of a feeding frenzy over Dangerous Animals, the new horror title from Australian director Sean Byrne (The Loved Ones, The Devil’s Candy). The “shark-meets-serial killer” movie stars Hassie Harrison (Yellowstone), Jai Courtney (Suicide Squad) and Josh Heuston (Dune: Prophecy).
Harrison plays Zephyr, a free-spirited surfer, who is abducted by Courtney’s shark-obsessed serial killer and held captive on his boat, awaiting a gruesome end in which he will ritualistically feed her to the sharks below. Her new lover Moses (Heuston) goes looking for her, only to be caught by the deranged murderer as well.
Mister Smith Entertainment, which is handling international rights to Dangerous Animals, has sold the picture across much of the world, signing deals for most of Europe, as well as the Middle East and Asia. Major deals included a U.K.

Shooting is underway in Rome on Anton Corbijn’s thriller “Switzerland,” starring Helen Mirren as American crime novelist Patricia Highsmith, with Alden Ehrenreich (“Oppenheimer”) and Olivia Cooke (“House of the Dragon”) confirmed to have joined the cast.
The hotly anticipated film – which takes its cue from Highsmith’s Tom Ripley novels – marks the first feature in more than nine years from the Dutch photographer-turned-director. Corbijn is known for helming music videos for U2, Coldplay and Nirvana as well as films including “Control,” the biopic about Joy Division singer Ian Curtis, as well as “A Most Wanted Man” and “The American.”
The fictional “Switzerland” story sees Mirren playing the aging queen of thrillers fading away in Switzerland, where a young literary agent named Edward (Ehrenreich), tries to coax her out of retirement to pen one last installment of her popular “Ripley” series. It soon becomes clear that the charming agent is on a more sinister mission.

Playwrights Horizons, the longstanding and prominent Off Broadway theater company that launched the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit Stereophonic, has appointed a new managing director as it steers its way through what one exec calls “seismic” economic change for the nonprofit world.
Casey York, Managing Director of the incubator and producer Ars Nova, has been named Playwrights’ new Managing Director. She succeeds Leslie Marcus, who announced in December that she was stepping down after serving in the position since 1993.
York takes on her new role as the Off Broadway institution enjoys one of its highest profile seasons in years. Stereophonic, the David Adjmi play that chronicles the fraught recording session of a 1970s Fleetwood Mac-like band, originally opened in 2023 at Playwrights Horizons prior to its commercial transfer to Broadway, and Teeth, a dark musical comedy based on the 2007 cult horror film, will receive a commercial transfer to Off Broadway’s New...

Watching the science-fiction space thriller I.S.S., I couldn’t help but get the feeling that maybe this claustrophobic and talky material might be better suited as a stage play than as a movie, where audiences might be anticipating something a bit more compelling along the lines of a Gravity or an Alien.
Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s competent direction of Nick Shafir’s Black List script never manages to set the screen on fire as it is more focused on the increasingly tense relations between two trios – one American astronauts, the other Russian cosmonauts — aboard the International Space Station just as war between the two countries breaks out on Earth, causing great complication and conflict for the six.

The Ariana DeBose and Chris Messina-led sci-fi thriller “I.S.S” has been picked up by Bleecker Street. Per the official logline, “’I.S.S.’ follows two crews of scientists – one group American, the other Russian, aboard the International Space Station conducting research towards the betterment of humanity. Most people spend their entire lives avoiding physical altercations, but in Miguel’s case, all he can think about is giving someone the gift of chin music in the Hulu Original film Miguel Wants to Fight. Hulu debuted the first Miguel Wants to Fight trailer on Tuesday, teasing the next film from American High. The light-hearted coming-of-age comedy taps into the curse of peer pressure, self-doubt, and the mystery of knowing if you can hold your own in a schoolyard scuffle.
Here’s the official synopsis for Miguel Wants to Fight:
Despite living in a neighborhood where fighting is stitched into the fabric of everyday life, high school junior Miguel (Tyler Dean Flores) has never found himself in one. And, to be honest, he’s perfectly fine with that. But when a combination of events turn his life upside down, Miguel and his three best friends —the stoic David...

Updated, 9:09 a.m.: “Miguel, have you ever gotten into a fight?” Tyler Dean Flores’ high schooler is asked in the first trailer for the Hulu Original Film, Miguel Wants to Fight. “It’s like what everyone does.”
He once got into an altercation outside of a grocery store, involving “aggressively hugging,” he recalls. But realizing that this doesn’t count, he succumbs to a bit of peer pressure, embarking on a series of misadventures with his three best friends — the stoic David (Christian Vunipola), the rowdy Cass (Imani Lewis) and the quick-tongued Srini (Suraj Partha) — as he tries to get into his first real brawl.
Read more about the film, arriving on Hulu on August 16th, below. Check out the trailer above.

Following the success of their years-long partnership that spawned seven original films including Natalie Morales’ “Plan B” and “Crush,” Hulu Originals has renewed its first look deal with comedy production company American High. Jason Zaro (“Brigsby Bear”) will serve as co-producer across the new slate of films for Hulu.

Ready for growing hair, sprouting teeth, and howling at the moon that is a Werewolf horror movie?
Director Sean Ellis’ gothic thriller The Cursed will be released in theaters on February 18, 2022. Written and helmed by Sean Ellis, The Cursed stars Boyd Holbrook, Kelly Reilly and Alistair Petrie in a reimagining of the werewolf legend.
Ellis said: “The Cursed was born from the desire to reimagine and update the Werewolf legend for a modern day audience. I wanted to play on the known folklore of the legend and give it a fresh approach to the cliched story devices that have been copied from the original 1941 film, The Wolf Man.”
In the late 1800s, a once-peaceful remote country village is under attack—but by who or what, no one knows. Villagers spread rumors of a cursed land, supernatural forces, and even demonic creatures, as the disappearances and killings continue. Pathologist John McBride arrives to investigate the danger,...
