Lost Star Terry O’Quinn Shares Intriguing Revival Idea 15 Years Later
Image
Fifteen years after the finale, Loststar Terry O'Quinn shares an intriguing idea about a revival. The veteran performer was instrumental to the early success of the game-changing ABC series. In his role as the enigmatic Locke, O'Quinn portrayed the one character that many on the island looked to as their hope of surviving and returning home safely.

O'Quinn would remain part of the Lost cast throughout the show's six seasons, including the divisive series finale that premiered in May 2010. That unforgettable final episode has received something of a reclamation in the years since, with viewers and television scholars arguing that the polarizing ending is actually underrated.

During an interview with ScreenRant for Resident Alien season 4, O'Quinn shared his pitch for revisiting Lost. The actor, who recurs as Peter Batch in Resident Alien, was asked about reuniting with former co-star Harold Perrineau on the horror drama From. O'Quinn responds that he hasn't seen the MGM+ series,...

Christopher is set to play Young Noah, a polite and charming small-town kid. Quite gifted for his age and effortlessly good at whatever he tries, he’s happiest when passing a football.

He joins the previously announced cast: Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly MacDonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Ulrich Thomsen, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Sherman Augustus, J. Alphonse Nicholson, Jason Ritter, Nathan Fillion, Chris Coy, and Paul Ben-Victor.

What A 'Cold Open' Means In Television
Image
Who could forget the opening scene of "Lost" — in J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof's masterpiece of a pilot episode — where our hero, Jack (Matthew Fox), awakens in a jungle on a seemingly uninhabited island to find the wreckage of his Oceanic flight and its survivors screaming and wandering about in shock? It's one of the most effective, mysterious, and captivating cold opens ever made. But what's a "cold open" exactly?

In television, a cold open is the very first scene of an episode that always appears before the title card (or opening credits) of any given series. It's one of the greatest storytelling tools TV writers have. It can come in many different forms and shapes, taking up usually five to ten minutes to immediately capture the viewer's attention as potently as possible.

Essentially, they serve as teasers, attempting to establish the show's tone, atmosphere, and vibe before we...

'Lanterns' Actor Ulrich Thomsen Teases Dcu Future as Sinesto
Image
The Dcu is in full-swing thanks to Superman hitting theaters this summer, and DC Studios looks to ride that momentum with a long-awaited series. Expected to debut in early 2026, HBO's Lanterns has reportedly wrapped production. The show follows John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) as a pair of space cops investigating a mystery, but it will also introduce perhaps the most iconic Green Lantern villain of all time.

Lanterns star Ulrich Thomsen took to social media to share an image of himself with his mustache half-shaved, seemingly teasing his transformation as Sinestro. The Green Lantern villain will make his Dcu debut in the HBO series in 2026, but the actor teases a bright future is ahead for the character. His caption reads,"Bye for now [Sinestro] – I'll keep one side for later. Hope too see you again." It seems he has wrapped filming his scenes as Sinestro, which coincides...

7 Best Prestige Dramas Streaming on HBO Max Right Now
Image
Television has evolved a lot over the course of the last 25 years. The success of shows like “The Sopranos,” “The Wire” and “Breaking Bad” throughout the late ’90s, 2000s and early 2010s made many viewers start taking the medium and its possibilities a lot more seriously than they did before. That, combined with the explosion of streaming services in the 2010s, resulted in a boom of expensive, complex, ambitious and sometimes star-studded ongoing and limited series.

That means most streaming platforms are bursting with countless worthwhile prestige dramas for you to watch. Here are seven of the best that you can stream right now on HBO Max.

One of the Greatest Sci-Fi Television Shows of All Time is Leaving Netflix Very Soon
Image
August will be a pretty distressing month for fans of Lost, but those in the U.S. have nothing to worry about — yet. The award-winning series remains one of the greatest of all time, having impacted numerous subsequent TV projects and popular culture at large. Comprising six seasons and 121 episodes, Lost ran from September 22, 2004, to May 23, 2010, and was eventually released on a few streaming platforms, including Netflix. Sadly, the sci-fi drama’s time on the streamer is about to come to an end globally, with only a few months left for subscribers in the U.S. as well.

Netflix acquired the rights to Lost in July 2024, as part of a deal with Disney, covering both the U.S. and worldwide markets. What’s on Netflix has now announced that all six seasons of the series will be removed from the streamer in international regions on August 15, as the last day...

Netflix Takes on Captain Planet with Live-Action Series from Greg Berlanti and Leonardo DiCaprio
Image
Netflix is bringing back the classic 90s environmental hero Captain Planet, but this time as a live-action series. The streaming giant is developing the show with big names behind it, including Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions, Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way, and Warner Bros. Television, according to Deadline.

Tara Hernandez, co-creator and executive producer of the show Mrs. Davis, is set to write the new adaptation. The original Captain Planet and the Planeteers was an animated series that ran for six seasons in the 1990s on TBS and in syndication. It told the story of five teenagers who join forces with the superhero Captain Planet to fight environmental disasters.

Before this, Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way had tried to make a live-action Captain Planet movie. The project was first started at Paramount Pictures in 2016, with actor Glen Powell involved in writing and possibly starring, but it never got off the ground.

Damon Lindelof's Extremely Controversial 5-Year-Old Action Movie Is Blowing Up the Streaming Charts
Image
The Damon Lindelof-produced horror movie The Hunt is having a major streaming resurgence more than five years after its release. Lindelof produced and co-wrote the action horror movie for director Craig Zobel.

Per FlixPatrol, The Hunt has suddenly shot back up on Peacock's Top 10 Movies list and is ranked as the streaming service's #4 most popular movie, as of Sunday, July 13. The movie impressively jumped six places on the list as of this writing and is currently ahead of much more memorable blockbusters like Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Despicable Me 3 and Legally Blonde.

The Hunt now only ranks behind the 2025 thriller Drop, the true-crime documentary The Idaho Student Murders and recent horror hit The Woman in the Yard among all of Peacock's movies. This feat is particularly impressive since The Hunt was first made available on Peacock in May 2023, whereas all three films leading it on Peacock's top movies...

Nathan Fillion Teases Mature Tone Of Lanterns - "Dropped More F-Bombs" Than Any Other Project
Image
As more details emerge about HBO's Lanterns, it sounds more and more like the TV series will be more of a John Stewart-centric show, despite the fact that Kyle Chandler is set to appear as Hal Jordan.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Nathan Fillion, who has a scene-stealing appearance as Guy Gardner in Superman, discussed his appearance on the show, revealing that he only has scenes with Aaron Pierre's John Stewart, not Hal.

"Aaron, he's got a voice like butter. And he's statuesque, like he's carved out of marble," Fillion told EW.

"He's very, very specific about his character and what his character's going through. His character's clearly going through something. And then along comes this gregarious, smug son of a bitch in Guy Gardner."

"And in that show...boy, Guy Gardner. I've dropped more F-bombs in that project than I have in, I think, my entire career put together,...

5 mind-bending sci-fi series that actually stick the landing
Image
There are tons of science fiction shows out there advertised as "mind-bending" experiences, and while that might be true for many of them, it's pretty rare to find one that actually delivers on its convoluted storylines all the way through to the end.

Most people remember the big, flashy sci-fi shows like Lost and Westworld, but even more recall that both series had very divisive endings (or seasons). Then you have great shows like Archive 81 and The Oa that simply got canceled before they had the chance to wrap everything up. The following list aims to highlight the few sci-fi shows out there that stay true to their mind-bending premise through the conclusion.

21 Years Later, a Sci-Fi Masterpiece With 1 of the Most Controversial Finales in TV History Is Quietly Dominating the PVOD Charts
Image
One of J. J. Abrams' most acclaimed (and divisive) series is dominating the VOD charts. A new report indicates that Lostis still quiet popular.

Per FlixPatrol, Lost has quietly found a foothold on the video-on-demand charts via iTunes. Lost continues to gain traction, rising two spots in recent days to reach the number ten spot on the list. Currently, the number one spot is held by Superman & Lois, with Rick and Morty and Arrested Development following behind in second and third place, respectively.

Lost premiered in 2004, and quickly it cemented its place as the then-latest television sensation. Created by J. J. Abrams, Jeffrey Lieber, and Damon Lindelof, the latter of whom served as showrunner alongside Carlton Cuse, Lost featured a star-studded ensemble cast who, for various reasons, found themselves stranded on a strange, secluded island filled with all manner of monsters and mysteries. The series' first season kicked off with...

‘Superman’ Director, 58, Reveals the Surprising Filmmakers Who Gave Notes on the First Dcu Movie [Exclusive]
Image
It turns out Superman isn’t just flying solo behind the scenes. While director and DC Studios co-head James Gunn has made it clear that Superman is his creative baby, he’s also been open about bringing in outside voices to help shape the first film in the new DC Universe. In an exclusive interview with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff, Gunn revealed that a few familiar filmmakers quietly played a critical role in fine-tuning the upcoming 2025 superhero blockbuster.

“I try to make other people become the studio for me, if that makes sense,” Gunn explained, noting the challenge of directing Superman while also acting as the studio head. “I really go to Peter Safran and Chantal Nong, and other directors. I showed this to Drew Goddard and Jason Reitman, and Damon Lindelof, and all these people to get their input on what works and what doesn’t, and they were so helpful.

Lanterns Casting Details Reveal Surprising Plans To Explore Hal Jordan's Dcu History - Possible Spoilers
Image
DC Studios' approach to Lanterns has been interesting, to say the least. While it's hard to fault the decision to make John Stewart the Dcu's main Green Lantern, casting a 59-year-old Hal Jordan (and a 54-year-old Guy Gardner) wasn't something anyone saw coming.

Still, it means those characters have a built-in history in the Dcu, and Nexus Point News has today confirmed that Hal's past will be explored in the upcoming HBO Max TV series.

Lanterns has already cast younger and older versions of John's parents, as well as a child version of the character and his brother. That's led to speculation about a flashback episode for the hero, and the same may be in the works for Hal as his parents, Martin and Jessica Jordan, are also being cast.

According to the site, "Martin is described as handsome, confident, charming, but hides a deep sadness. Similar to the comics,...

Superman Star David Corenswet Talks Benefit Of "No Plan" For Dcu As James Gunn Teases Scrapped "Dark" Ending
Image
In case it wasn't obvious, DC Studios only has a loose plan for the Dcu. While it would be unfair to say James Gunn is making it up as he goes, a glance at how little from the "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" slate has come to fruition confirms there's no definitive slate in place.

Various projects have been added to "Chapter 1," while many have fallen by the wayside or been the victim of creative issues. That's not to say they won't happen, but DC Studios currently has no movies or TV shows officially announced for 2027.

Talking to Screen Rant, Superman star David Corenswet shared his take on why DC Studios not having a set plan is ultimately better for this franchise.

"I mean, [I know] essentially nothing. Essentially just that he means it when he says that no plan is better than the quality of the scripts and the directors who...

The Sci-Fi Movie That Killed Guillermo Del Toro's At The Mountains Of Madness Adaptation
Image
There's no movie I'm more excited for in 2025 than Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein." The sumptuous-looking trailer hints that del Toro's "Frankenstein" could be the truest adaptation yet of Mary Shelley's "The Modern Prometheus," but it's also unmistakably his movie; he considers this to be part of a thematic trilogy with "Nightmare Alley" and "Pinocchio."

Del Toro is one of the foremost fantasy and horror directors we have working today. "Frankenstein" will bring him back to directing outright science-fiction for the first time since 2013's "Pacific Rim."

Besides "Frankenstein," there's another classic sci-fi story that del Toro has long wanted to adapt: H.P. Lovecraft's "At The Mountains of Madness." Published in 1936 (shortly before Lovecraft's death), the story follows a university research team in Antarctica. When some of the explorers are found brutally murdered, geologist William Dyer and his student Danforth investigate and come across a prehistoric city, home...

Producer Scott Budnick Details How Hollywood Got California Lawmakers To Agree On Film & TV Tax Credit Program Expansion
Image
The California production community will be keeping a close eye on the state Capitol on Friday as lawmakers are set to seal the deal on the expansion to the Film & TV Tax Credit Program, offering some crucial amendments to the current initiative and boosting its funding to $750 million annually.

The Legislature is expected to vote ahead of the weekend on a trailer bill to make the legal changes needed to implement the budget they agreed upon earlier this week.

This is a win for both Gov. Gavin Newsom, who made the ambitious proposal in October, and the state’s struggling film and television industry — but it took quite a lot of people to make it happen. The industry has coalesced in recent months around this issue, bringing together production workers, union leaders and prominent filmmakers to plead their case to the decision makers in Sacramento.

Ron Perlman's Gritty Crime Thriller Series On Prime Video Is An Underrated Gem
Image
When Kurt Sutter's Shakespearean crime drama "Sons of Anarchy" ended in 2014 after seven seasons, we as fans were all trying to find something that could fill the gap it left behind. Perhaps that search is still ongoing — and no offense to the "Sons of Anarchy" spin-off, "Mayans M.C.," but that show was never able to live up to its predecessor — because nothing can replicate the vibe of the twisted motorbike brotherhood that Samcro had to offer. Ben Watkins' "Hand of God," which kicked off in the same year that "Sons of Anarchy" wrapped up, wasn't the answer, but at least it gave us the mighty Ron Perlman back in another leading role, this time as morally-bankrupt judge Pernell Harris.

In retrospect, the main issue that "Hand of God" suffered from and got subsequently slammed for by critics was that it tried to be deadly serious and wanted viewers to treat it as such.

The 10 Best HBO Miniseries, Ranked
Image
HBO has long been a cornerstone of consistently compelling and well-made programming, whether it's movies, documentaries, TV shows, or, perhaps the best of both worlds, a miniseries. The premium network is well known for their particularly impressive roster of miniseries since its inception in 1972, and they've continued to up the ante with what they've produced even in just the last five years. In fact, it seems like every year there's at least one major miniseries achievement for the channel.

There have been so many excellent series over time that it actually seems quite daunting to choose only 10 in a list of the best HBO miniseries, but honestly, if we didn't, this list would just end up encompassing quite literally most of the HBO miniseries catalog. Plus, it can at times feel impossible to put them in a definitive order because they're all so good, but someone's gotta do it.

Here are the 10 best HBO miniseries,...

Daisy Ridley's Rey movie reportedly "on hold," joins pile of other stalled Star Wars films
Image
For a while now, we've known that Disney is developing a new Star Wars movie that would follow up with Rey (Daisy Ridley) after the events of the sequel trilogy; that means this movie would be set later in the Star Wars timeline than any other film or TV show. But now, entertainment news hound Daniel Richtman is reporting that the movie is "on hold":

The Rey movie is on hold once again, as both the Shawn Levy and James Mangold Star Wars films are moving forward first. The project is not canceled — just temporarily on hold.

Shawn Levy is working on a Star Wars movie called Starfighter; that one will star Ryan Gosling and will also be set after the sequel trilogy. Meanwhile, James Mangold is taking things back with a movie called Dawn of the Jedi, which sounds like it'll be a prequel set long before any of the Star Wars movies.

Daisy Ridley's 'Star Wars' Rey Movie Reportedly Put "On Hold" by Lucasfilm
Image
The Daisy Ridley-led Star Wars film is reportedly facing another major hurdle during development as Lucasfilm begins to focus on other upcoming feature-length projects. The next chapter in Rey Skywalker's storyline is currently set to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel), but it appears that Star Wars fans will have to wait even longer to hear good news about the film.

According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Lucasfilm has put the long-gestating Rey Star Wars film on hold. Rumored to be titled New Jedi Order, the project has seen a rotating crew of writers, with the latest being George Nolfi. However, it seems other Star Wars films are taking precedent at the studio, including Shawn Levy's Starfighter and James Mangold's Dawn of the Jedi. Richtman states that the Rey movie is "not canceled," but it is now on the backburner for the foreseeable future. Of course,...

'Lanterns' Director Reveals How "Intergalactic" The New Dcu Series Will Be
Image
Lanterns might finally give the Green Lanterns the live-action adaptation the comic book organization deserves. James Hawes (The Amateur) is directing the series, which is currently in production and is expected to be released sometime in early 2026, although this has not been confirmed. When the show was announced, Hawes drew comparisons between the Dcu's new series and HBO's timeless crime-thriller anthology, True Detective, among some other beloved series and movies. With Lanterns now shooting, and fans getting more and more excited to see what's in store from the show, Hawes has confirmed just how closely the Dcu series flies to HBO's hit show, and the major way it's different.

During a recent interview with the Phase Hero Podcast to promote his new action movie, The Amateur, James Hawes teased what fans can expect from Lanterns. Of course, he didn't give any plot details away, but the director confirmed the tone of the eagerly anticipated series,...

Lanterns Pilot Director James Hawes Says The Series Starts Off Grounded And Then Goes Cosmic
Image
Earlier reports about Lanterns being grounded may have been misconstrued by fans.

Recently, James Gunn tried to clarify those comments, and now, James Hawes, who directed the Lanterns pilot, is doing the same.

Hawes recently spoke to Phase Hero about the release of The Amateur but also touched on his work on the Dcu's upcoming Green Lantern drama.

"The scripts have so much with, so much character, it's a buddy cop movie, played out in a True Detective, Fargo, No Country For Old Men naturalistic [way] and then somebody flies," exclaimed the British television director.

Addressing previous reports and comments about the series being grounded and the assumption that everything is set on Earth, Hawes stated, "I'm going to talk very obliquely about this because there are excitements to come," teased Hawes.

"It won't disappoint the classic fans. I think it will invite in a whole new audience as well, " Hawes said.

The Boys creator is terrified about getting the ending right
Image
The fifth and final season of The Boys is on its way to Prime Video; according to cast member Jensen Ackles (Soldier Boy), filming wraps up next month. Then all there is to do is edit the episodes together, add in special effects and watch as the reactions roll in.

If you're showrunner Erik Kripke, that's a scary prospect. "I am in a fair amount of terror about a series finale," Kripke told The Night Agent and The Shield creator Shawn Ryan on an episode of the Creator to Creator podcast. According to Kripke, there are not that many great finales in the history of television, and being a fan-favorite show means nothing if you're unable to stick the landing. "You can count in one, maybe two hands, the truly great series finales. Of which, by the way, well done, I think The Shield is one of them. And, conversely,...

The Highest-Grossing Zombie Movie Ever Made Finds New Streaming Success 12 Years Later
Image
The zombie horror genre has always been popular, but some films did it better than others. Ahead of a new zombie film, the addition in the 28 Days Laterfranchise, 28 Years Later, set to premiere on June 20, the highest-grossing zombie film of all time is making a splash on streaming.

In 2013, Brad Pitt starred in World War Z, which is now having a resurgence on streaming. The film recently headed to a new streaming home, its studio Paramount Pictures' streaming platform, Paramount+. However, it didn't make an imminent impact on the streaming platform, but World War Z reached the Top 10 globally on Netflix,Tudum reports.

World War Z has had a long, complicated relationship with Netflix. The zombie film left the streaming service in October 2024, but it's still available internationally. For the week between June 9 and 15, World War Z debuted in the charts again in seventh place. It received 3.8 million views and 7.4 million hours viewed.

Hollywood Heavyweights Hound Sacramento for a $750 Million Lifeline

On June 11, as protests raged in Los Angeles over the escalating immigration crackdown and California legislators furiously attempted to address a $12 billion budget shortfall, state Sen. Ben Allen issued a gentle reminder to top Hollywood creatives that politicos had a lot more on their minds than movies and TV shows.

“Keep in mind the pressures that everyone is under right now,” the legislator told a group of industry players in the Capitol’s swing-space office building. Substantive cuts to healthcare, social and public services were on the table — in fact, the chants of protestors outside the building were echoing as he was speaking. “You’re under a lot of pressures; we’re under a lot of pressures.”

His rapt listeners wouldn’t have looked out of place at a glamorous Oscars after-party, and they had been tasked with doing the kind of delicate politicking and advocacy that on the West Side of L.

J.J. Abrams Believed ‘Lost’ Was a Lost Cause: “I could see that as a movie”
Image
For the fans, Lost wasn’t just another show. In fact, it was a bold experiment that reshaped how audiences viewed network television. So, when ABC fast-tracked the series in 2004, they turned to the iconic J.J. Abrams, who, in turn, helped in shaping the show as well as its iconic pilot.

But behind the scenes, he had some serious doubts before taking over the project and wasn’t convinced it would work. In fact, he initially thought the idea felt more like a movie than a long-running series. But what seemed like a risky project to him at first soon became a cultural landmark. Let’s dive deeper!

J.J. Abrams initially doubted the Lost’s potential and hesitated to fully commit to the show J.J. Adams in a still from an interview with Stephen Colbert | Credits: The Late Show with Stephen Colbert/YouTube

12 Years Later, the Steamy Star Trek Scene J.J. Abrams Had to Apologize for Remains the Only Memorable Thing About the Movie
Image
J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot started well with the 2009 film starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. However, it quickly lost momentum with Into Darkness, and after Beyond, the Kelvin timeline seems to be stuck in limbo. The filmmaker has admitted to many mistakes on his part in Into Darkness, but one scene is living on in infamy.

Abrams’ decision to show actress Alice Eve in nothing but her undergarments in one scene in the movie seems to be the most memorable (in a bad way) moment from Into Darkness. The filmmaker and writer Damon Lindelof apologized for it after fans criticized them for using female characters only for the male gaze.

HBO's Lanterns Will Wrap Filming In July Ahead Of Its Early-2026 Premiere
Image
The highly anticipated HBO series Lanterns is set to be a cosmic cornerstone of James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe (Dcu), offering a fresh, grounded take on the iconic Green Lantern mythology.

Unlike previous adaptations, this series is described as a detective story with a gritty, True Detective-esque tone. It will follow two legendary Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart, as they unravel a dark, Earth-bound mystery.

The plot centers on a seemingly isolated murder in the American heartland, specifically Nebraska. This local crime will draw the veteran Green Lantern Corps member Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and his new recruit, John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), into deeper, more sinister revelations.

The series, consisting of eight episodes, promises to connect this Earth-based investigation to the larger narrative of the Dcu's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

In a recent interview, actor J. Alphonse Nicholson, who portrays John Stewart's father in the upcoming space drama,...

Image
When you purchase through our links, we may earn an affiliate commission.

Books and TV shows have had a special relationship for over a century now. There have been countless TV adaptations of popular books, and even if we count this year (which isn’t over), there have been over seven or eight. While there have been many brilliant books that were adapted through the years, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the TV shows are also good, and that’s why we decided to compile a list of the absolute best TV shows that were based on books. As a side note, we also decided not to include Game of Thrones and Dexter, mainly because of how they ended.

'Superman' Star Nathan Fillion Teases Guy Garnder Role in HBO's 'Lanterns'
Image
With just a handful of projects in development, James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios have already displayed impressive levels of interconnectivity with their franchises. A vision of a possible future in the animated series Creature Commandos featured Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. The trailer for the second season of Peacemaker included an appearance by the Justice Gang that will debut in Superman. And finally, Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner is set to make an appearance on the HBO series Lanterns, with the actor having revealed how his character changes in between projects.

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fillion talked about his role in Lanterns. The actor's involvement felt inevitable, given that he is also a Green Lantern. However, it wasn't until recently that Gunn confirmed Gardner would appear alongside Aaron Pierre's John Stewart and Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan. As Fillion told the magazine, Guy...

“As Good as a Show Gets”: ‘The Boys’ Showrunner Reveals Which Series Finale He’s Learned From the Most
Image
Though The Boys won’t be Eric Kripke’s first rodeo into series finales, it’s the one he’s dreading the most. After successfully rounding out beloved titles like Supernatural after an incredible 15-season run, the Prime Video production is the thing that’s now keeping him up at night. Luckily, he has plenty of other masterful titles to look to for inspiration. During a recent installment of Sony’s Creator to Creator podcast, the showrunner chatted with The Night Agent’s Shawn Ryan about the series of yesteryear that informed his approach to what will essentially be the biggest episode The Boys has ever delivered.

First and foremost, at the top of his list of importance is ensuring the audience gets the well-rounded finale they’re looking for, telling Ryan,

“How do you tie up the stories? How do you do it in a way that is emotional and satisfying?...

Every Season Of The Good Place, Ranked
Image
If you somehow missed "The Good Place," an existential afterlife comedy from "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Parks and Recreation" creator Michael Schur, I implore you to fix that immediately. The series premiered in September of 2016 and introduced audiences to Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell), Chidi Anagonye (William Jackson Harper), Tahani Al-Jamil (Jameela Jamil), and "Jianyu," whose real name is Jason Mendoza (Manny Jacinto in arguably his best role). When these four humans die on Earth, they end up in an afterlife that they're told is the "Good Place" by the specific "heavenly" neighborhood's architect, Michael (Ted Danson). Michael, who's flanked by his not-a-robot, not-a-girl assistant Janet (D'Arcy Carden), guides Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, and Jason through this seemingly idyllic celestial neighborhood, until a twist late in the show's first season reveals something absolutely enormous. Also, there is a Bad Place, and Michael says the core four do not want to end up there.

“My favorite trope is when people act rationally and the danger is still just that much”: Alien: Earth’s Radical All-Synthetics Premise Earns Praise
Image
After decades of uncertainty, Alien: Romulus was a return to form for the long-dormant franchise, which hasn’t had a steady run since James Cameron exited the ship after delivering one of the greatest sequels of all time. With FX now bringing the IP to the small screen with Alien: Earth, a subsection of fans was initially skeptical about it, especially after a successful mainline entry.

The premise and the official trailer, however, have vastly alleviated the consensus surrounding the show, as the premise, at least on paper, seems enticing enough to draw eyes.

Alien: Earth premise promises rationality A still from Alien: Earth | Credit: FX

Rationality is often thrown out the window in the realm of horrors. Not only is the genre oversaturated with the same old cliched story that keeps on relying on cheap scares, but mainstream horrors tend to undermine viewers’ intelligence.

While this isn’t inherently a bad thing in itself,...

Ridley Scott says he’s done directing the Alien franchise
Alien (1979)
The Alien franchise was determined to get back on track while honoring the whole series with last year’s Alien: Romulus. A new entry in the universe is also on the way with the TV series, Alien: Earth. A trailer just dropped for the FX show and creator Noah Hawley explained his vision for the project, “The alien stories are always trapped… Trapped in a prison, trapped in a space ship. I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of ‘What happens if you can’t contain it?’ are more immediate.“ Alien: Earth will “explore the formation of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation and the race to create android life.”

While Ridley Scott helmed the 1979 original (as well as a couple of series prequels), he lent his involvement to Romulus and Earth as an executive producer. But will Scott continue to explore the horrors of space?...

Ridley Scott Says ‘I’ve Done Enough’ With ‘Alien,’ Thought ‘F— That’s the End of the Franchise’ After Bad Sequels: This Series ‘Should Be as Important’ as ‘Star Wars’
Image
Ridley Scott said in an interview with ScreenRant that “I’ve done enough” when it comes to the “Alien” franchise, which he started 46 years ago. Scott produced last year’s well-reviewed “Alien: Romulus” movie, and he’s an executive producer on Noah Hawley’s upcoming FX series “Alien: Earth.” But it appears Scott’s days of directing “Alien” projects is over. As he summed up: “Where it’s going now, I think I’ve done enough, and I just hope it goes further.”

Scott said the “Alien” franchise is “spreading like wildfire,” which he’s more or less amazed at considering there was a time when he thought the series was as good as dead. Scott directed 1979’s “Alien” before handing the franchise to James Cameron for 1986’s “Aliens.” The series then took stumbles with divisive entries from the likes of David Fincher (“Alien 3”) and Jean-Pierre Jeunet (“Alien Resurrection...

The Leftovers Broke A Major Rule That HBO Followed For Decades
Image
"The Leftovers" broke a major HBO rule that the channel had followed for decades upon its release. Damon Lindelof's beloved TV series was the first project developed outside of HBO's owned studios. Back in 2013, The Hollywood Reporter highlighted "The Leftovers" as a part of a massive push for new shows from HBO. Lindelof's show would stand alongside "Game of Thrones" and "True Blood" on the network. It's amazing to think of how much this move altered the "prestige TV" landscape.

Before that moment in 2013, HBO liked to keep the production of these series in-house. Warner Bros. Television would handle a lot of the duties. But to attract big fish, you have to loosen up the rules sometimes. "The Leftovers" had a who's who roster of producers at the time. Names like Peter Berg, Tom Perrotta, and Sarah Aubrey were hot commodities. If this is what it took to secure...

“Stop F***ing Watching!”: The Leftovers Creator Reflects On The Show's Divisive First Season
Image
Damon Lindelof, the co-creator of The Leftovers, has recently spoken about the show’s rather divisive season 1. Despite its critical acclaim, The Leftovers ended after 3 seasons in 2017, but has since been introduced to many new viewers. HBO’s The Leftovers is an adaptation of co-creator Tom Perrotta’s 2011 novel of the same name, and focuses on a global event that causes 2% of the world’s population to suddenly vanish, as well as the loved ones of those who disappear. While The Leftovers season 1 was well received, one common criticism is that it was rather bleak.

While in attendance at a reunion panel for The Leftovers at Atx TV Festival (via EW), Lindelof commented on The Leftovers season 1 and the show’s global response, stating, “One of the things that made it so special was that it wasn’t for everyone." He continued with, “So much of the work that we...

'I think I've done enough': Sir Ridley Scott is finished with Alien
Sir Ridley Scott is finished with the 'Alien' franchise. After directing the eponymous 1979 sci-fi/horror flick, the 87-year-old filmmaker walked away from the 'Alien' series until returning for the 2012 prequel 'Prometheus' and its follow-up 'Alien: Covenant' in 2017, though Scott now thinks he's "done enough" with the 'Alien' franchise.Speaking with Screen Rant, he said: " A number of years after ['Alien'], I said, 'I'm going to resurrect this',[and wrote] 'Prometheus' from scratch–a blank sheet of paper. Damon Lindelof and I sat then hammered out 'Prometheus'."It was very present and very welcome. The audience really wanted more. I said, 'It needs to fly.' No one was coming for it, [and] I went once again [and made] 'Alien Covenant', and it worked too. "Where it's going now, I think I've done enough, and I just hope it goes further."After Scott's...

'Alien' Director Ridley Scott Thinks He's "Done Enough" With Horror Franchise
Image
Ridley Scott, the director behind classics like Gladiator, Blade Runner and the 1979 groundbreaking film, Alien, says that he's "done enough" for the horror sci-fi franchise. 2024's Alien: Romulus proves that the franchise does have life without Scott at the helm, and he agrees with this, saying, "Where it's going now, I think I've done enough, and I just hope it goes further."

Scott was only involved in the first film, and then took a (very long) break. Eventually, he returned in 2012 to make the prequel Prometheus, and in 2017 he made his last Alien film, Alien: Covenant. The director was only involved as a producer in Romulus, as he gave Fede Álvarez a much-deserved opportunity to try his best at making an Alien sequel. The result was a critically acclaimed blockbuster that many believed came close in spirit to what Scott had done with Alien.

In a conversation with Screen Rant...

A Severance Actor's Audition Made The Creators Change The Character
Image
Undoubtedly, creator Dan Erickson's "Severance" was able to capture audiences quickly when the show premiered in 2022 because of its sprawling mystery. First and foremost, the series' premise and plot presented a thrilling and virtually indecipherable enigma that was, at the least, matching the sensation that "Lost" created almost two decades before it. But just like in J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof's classic, we also fell in love with the show because it gave us intriguing, funny, and relatable characters to watch and root for week by week. As much as it was addictive to speculate what Lumon's purpose and ultimate evil plan were, it's also been crucial that we could do that alongside likable and charming characters we inevitably grew close to in the debut season and its follow-up.

Zach Cherry's Dylan, the loudmouth employee of the Macrodata Refinement department, is very much a pivotal member of...

‘One of the things that made it so special was that it wasn’t for everyone’: ‘The Leftovers’ EPs and cast on the show’s legacy
Image
Damon Lindelof is the first to admit that The Leftovers was a bit of a hard sell.

The critically acclaimed show, which ran for three seasons from 2014 to 2017 on HBO, attracted a devoted, passionate but relatively small fan base, who were drawn in by the haunting exploration of grief and its aftermath.

Lindelof reunited with executive producers Tom Perrotta (whose novel inspired the series) and Mimi Leder and cast members Carrie Coon (Nora), Amy Brenneman (Laurie), and Ann Dowd (Patti) at the Atx TV Festival in Austin to "reheat" The Leftovers, sharing their first impressions of each other and the series, the most “terrifying” scene, and the show’s lasting legacy.

Lindelof revealed he was nervous before his first meeting with Perrotta. “It was a job interview in a lot of ways, but you just completely and totally put me at ease, and by the end of the meeting, that...

Brad Pitt had the year 2013 on lock when World War Z premiered in theaters.
