Every time you try to rewatch something from the ’90s, you’re either hit with a dead end or greeted by the usual suspects: Friends, The X-Files, Frasier, rinse, repeat.

But believe it or not, a bunch of lesser-known or long-forgotten series from the same era are available to stream — and some of them are actually worth the dive.

Others? They’re a beautiful mess. Either way, they all offer a slice of what the ’90s felt like: weirdly experimental, syndicated to hell, and somehow full of stars we either forgot or miss seeing on our screens.

These shows might not be on every nostalgia list, but they ran for multiple seasons, had loyal followings, and still carry that unmistakable ’90s energy.

Jack Ryan's season 3 plot distanced itself from seasons 1 and 2, bringing John Krasinski's titular character partially on the run from the Central Intelligence Agency. However, Amazon Prime Video's political spy thriller also had Ryan rely on the U.S. Navy's help to continue pursuing his plan despite CIA director Miller being against it.

Although USS Roosevelt's Captain Bennett (Marc Menchaca) already appeared in Jack Ryan season 3 episode 1 offering his vessel as a base from which Ryan's recon mission in the Black Sea could start, his attitude shifted completely in Jack Ryan season 3 finale's ending.

We are big fans here of Dutch director Yfke van Berckelaer's short film Lili. And we're not the only ones: since its appearance at festivals a year ago, the short has been making a victory lap around the world, picking up awards all over the place for its direction and its star Lisa Smit. Reviewing a short can be a difficult endeavour, especially one which is only nine minutes long. At that length, it's hard to tell people what a film is about without spoiling it almost entirely. So rest assured I will keep the description of Lili to a minimum. Mirjana Karanovic’s A Good Wife wins best first film; audience award goes to Iciar Bollain’s The Olive Tree.

The 14th edition of the Brussels Film Festival closed with the Golden Iris award going to Maren Ade’s Toni Erdmann, with a prize of €10,000 to distributor September Film. The film also won best screenplay and the Rtbf Vt Prize of best film.

The jury was comprised of Flemish actress Natali Broods, Italian director Emanuele Crialese, Belgian actor Pierre Dherte, Dutch actor Derek De Lint and Croatian director Ivona Juka.

The White Iris award for best first film in competition went to A Good Wife by Mirjana Karanovic.

The jury award went to Callback by Carles Torras; best photography went to Giorgos Arvanitis for Blind Sun; the Cineruopa award went to Pikadero by Ben Sharrock; Ups cinephile award went to Suntan by Argyris Papadimitropoulos.

Toronto – On July 31st, the 37th annual Toronto International Film Festival announced its second wave of features and documentaries to be added to this year’s already promising lineup.

The ‘Midnight Madness’ programme, which showcases up and coming genre films, will return for a second year, with The Raid winning the inaugural audience choice award in 2011.

Tiff Programmer Colin Geddes says that the audience should expect “everything from outrageous horror comedies to mock-doc-eco-apocalypse thrillers, featuring trans-dimensional bugs, lewd Catholic priests, meat monsters and dog-snapping psychopaths that will animate the Ryerson Theatre when the clock chimes 12.”

Returning for its fourth edition this year is the ‘City to City’ programme, which puts a spotlight on filmmakers working and living in a certain city, introducing audiences to local independent films from around the world. This year’s city of choice is Mumbai.
