Nearly three decades ago, James Olivas’ mother and father met during a production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s political musical Evita.
“It’s a fun little coincidence that we have going on,” the theater star tells The Hollywood Reporter. “And it makes me doing the show now especially exciting for them.”
As if by fate, Olivas now finds himself as one of three leads in the West End production of Evita that’s taken London by storm since mid-June: he plays husband to Rachel Zegler‘s Eva Perón, Argentine president Juan Perón, who rose to power in 1946.
Director Jamie Lloyd — best known for his Tony-winning Sunset Boulevard revival as well as the Tom Holland-starring Romeo and Juliet — breathes new life into the 47-year-old Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice musical with a sharp, sexy take on Eva’s life and career. It's not news that "Cats" is a bad movie. Directed by Tom Hooper, the movie uses Andrew Lloyd Webber's inscrutable and mostly plotless Broadway musical as its source material, and to say it's jarring, bizarre, and outright terrible is an understatement. Also, Taylor Swift is in it.
Let me backtrack for a moment and say this: The Broadway musical "Cats" is not my personal cup of tea, but I'm not here to crap all over it. It's one of the highest-grossing musicals in history, and to be absolutely fair, the fact that the stage version is plotless isn't a technically bad thing. Making it into a movie, though, was a patently terrible idea, and I say that with no due respect to Hooper ... and unfortunately for Swift and her co-stars Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson, and, uh, James Corden, it's a part of their creative histories now.

Adam Lambert is championing Cynthia Erivo in Jesus Christ Superstar, despite backlash surrounding her casting as the titular role.
In Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s musical, the Tony Award winner portrayed Jesus alongside the American Idol alum as Judas at the Hollywood Bowl for the first three nights of August.
When news of Erivo’s casting was announced, it was criticized because she is a Black queer woman. However, Lambert doesn’t share the same concerns, and admitted in an interview with Billboard that he was “excited by the challenge” of the Oscar nominee leading Jesus Christ Superstar.
“Cynthia’s brilliant. Her voice, presence, and simultaneous power and vulnerability absolutely blows my mind and working with her has been a dream,” he said. “I’m excited by the challenge of presenting the audience with a production led by a female, Black ‘Jesus’ and encourage the audience to expand their minds a bit.

As Cynthia Erivo channels the Son of God, her Judas is coming to her defense.
Ahead of this weekend’s star-studded Jesus Christ Superstar concert at Hollywood Bowl, Adam Lambert defended the casting of Erivo in the eponymous biblical role, which has drawn backlash from some circles over the Tony-winning actress being a Black LGBTQ woman.

Originally utilizing rock and roll, Jesus Christ Superstar is supposed to provoke and challenge, that’s the point. And shouldn’t the teachings of Jesus transcend gender?”
Erivo was cast as Jesus back in February, the actress addressed the discourse in an interview.

John Stamos Replaces Ailing Josh Gad As King Herod In ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ At The Hollywood Bowl
John Stamos is sliding into the golden slippers of King Herod just hours before the curtain comes up on Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl.
Stamos’ last minute casting comes after Josh Gad announced yesterday that he would no longer occupy the throne on Friday night.
“It is with enormous heartbreak that I inform you all that unfortunately, I have contracted a virus known as Covid (remember that little bastard from season one of ‘Earth really sucks right now’?)” Gad wrote in on Instagram.
Stamos is not just a pretty face. Beyond his acting chops, he’s been a musician for decades, most famously playing with the Beach Boys on a regular basis. He also participated in the Broadway revival of Bye Bye Birdie and played Corny Collins in Hairspray at the Bowl in 2011.
“I am grateful for the chance to step into the gold lamé,” wrote Stamos on Instagram.

As book adaptations go, the "Harry Potter" movies are fairly unimpeachable. They stick as closely to the story as seems possible -- Alfonso Cuaron played with structure a little bit for "The Prisoner of Azkaban," but not in any way that betrays the novels -- they feature many of the greatest British actors of their day, and most seem perfectly cast in the roles assigned. The theme tune is also arguably John Williams' last absolute banger of a timeless classic. So why remake them as a TV series?
There are several possible answers to that question. One is so that all the subplots that had to be cut for time when adapting to two-hour-plus movies can now be dramatized. Another is that Warner Bros. wants to keep monetizing the "Harry Potter" IP for nostalgia, and the "Fantastic Beasts" prequel trilogy just wasn't doing it. Yet another is that the franchise's one surefire potential money-maker,...

Music is an integral aspect of Arcane‘s storytelling, and the opening sequence of season 2 gives this belief a whole new meaning. It features famous scenes or references from classic tragedies like William Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Gaston Leroux’s Phantom of the Opera, as @flowchartkenYT pointed out in a YouTube short. Many fans noticed these similarities when the opening was first released.
All these references suggest a tragic future for the characters, which hasn’t come true yet.
