The final three-episode arc of “Arcane” Season 2 is just as bold, experimental, and fiercely character-driven as the rest of the Netflix animated series, in no small part because it reflects the show’s construction. Showrunner Christian Linke and the rest of the writing team based with Riot Games were constantly opening hexgates (and/or Zoom calls) with the directors and animators at Fortiche Studios to amp up the visual expression of the emotional journeys.

A key example is the first episode of this last arc, “Pretend Like It’s The First Time.” It transports Ekko (Reed Shannon) into a parallel universe where the undercity of Zaun gets to look more utopian, like its sister city of Piltover, and where many of the characters we’ve lost are still around, and where Vi’s sister Powder has never become Jinx (Ella Purnell). Arcane started and ended with a bang, with fans claiming it was one of the best video game adaptations ever. However, fans are mourning the loss of their beloved characters since the showrunners aren’t vying for a new season.

But there is no need to grieve for long since Christian Linke has revealed his plans for the future. The showrunner confessed that they had been working on a different series based on the popular multiplayer game that will hit the screens soon. After three long years, Arcane has finally returned on Netflix. The first three episodes of the hit animated show's second and final season have dropped, returning viewers to the twin cities of PIltover and Zaun, which stand on the brink of a brutal war. And now that it's airing, we can safely say: Arcane season 2 was very much worth the wait.

Based on the video game League of Legends, Arcane made waves when it first premiered in 2021 with its sweeping storytelling, stylistic animation, and top-notch soundtrack. It became the first animated show on any streaming platform to win the Emmy for Best Animated Series, and in my opinion, the hype has been very well-deserved.

Arcane season 1 ended with a massive cliffhanger. As the gathered nobility of Piltover met to discuss whether to grant the undercity of Zaun sovereignty, Jinx (Ella Purnell) launched a rocket across the river and directly into their audience chamber.

Progress and power both have a price. Three years after its Season 1 debut, Netflix’s “Arcane” returns to close out the story as Vi and Jinx battle it out, rich utopia versus dystopian underbelly (a tale as old as time). “One Day” star Leo Woodall swaps TV presenting for complex math problems in his latest series, “Prime Target.”

In first-look images from the upcoming Apple TV+ thriller, Woodall is dressed up as math postgraduate Edward Brooks, complete with tweed jacket and leather-bound notebook, while co-star Quintessa Swindell (“Black Adam”) plays no-nonsense Nsa agent Taylah Sanders.

“Prime Target” follows Brooks, who is on the verge of a major computational breakthrough, as he realizes someone is trying to destroy his idea – while Sanders has been ordered to spy on him and report on his behavior. White Lotus and One Day breakout Leo Woodall is leading an Apple TV+ thriller opposite Black Adam star Quintessa Swindell about a young maths graduate who discovers the secret to prime numbers, with Ridley Scott producing.

Woodall will play Edward Brook in Prime Target and Scott’s indie Scott Free is producing with New Regency. The show is created by Sherlock scribe Steve Thompson.

Woodall, who is having a moment following performances in HBO’s White Lotus and new Netflix adaptation One Day, is a maths graduate on the verge of succeeded in finding a pattern in prime numbers, which would hold the key to every computer in the world. Soon he begins to realize an unseen enemy is trying to destroy his idea before it’s even born, which throws him into the orbit of Taylah Sanders (Swindell), a female Nsa agent, who’s been tasked with watching and reporting on mathematicians’ behavior.

Fresh off his work in Netflix’s One Day, Leo Woodall is now set to lead Prime Target, a conspiracy thriller ordered at Apple TV+ on Wednesday.

Spanning eight episodes, Prime Target stars Woodall (who also made a splash in The White Lotus‘ sophomore season) as Edward Brooks, a brilliant young math post-graduate on the verge of a major breakthrough: If he succeeds in finding a pattern in prime numbers, he’ll hold the key to every computer in the world.

“One Day” star Leo Woodall and “Black Adam’s” Quintessa Swindell are set to lead a new thriller series for Apple TV+ titled “Prime Target.”

Created by Steve Thompson (“Sherlock”) and produced by New Regency with Ridley Scott’s Scott Free, the eight-episode drama follows a mathematical genius as he’s plunged into a troubling conspiracy just as he’s about to make a major computational breakthrough.

Woodall plays math post-graduate Edward Brooks, who’s on the verge of working out how to access every computer in the world via a unique mathematical pattern when he realizes an someone is trying to stop him. Swindell takes on the role of Nsa agent Taylah Sanders, whose job is to watch and report on mathematicians with world-changing ideas.

“Together they start to piece together the troubling conspiracy Edward is at the heart of,” reads the logline.

The much-maligned Richard III finally gets the royal treatment in Stephen Frears’ The Lost King as amateur historian Philippa Langley unearths the monarch’s five-century-old remains in a parking lot in Leicester, England, in 2012. Two books and a documentary later, IFC Films presents the feature film version in 750+ theaters.

“It took eight years from starting the search to cutting the tarmac. To see it telescoped into a hundred or so minutes made it really powerful for me,” Langley, who’s played in the film by Sally Hawkins, told Deadline.

Returning showrunner Russell T Davies has spoken in the past about how the previous Doctor Who spin-offs came too soon. You're probably familiar with the old saying "History is written by the victors." A more accurate sentiment would be "History is written by the conquerors." Those that end up on top have the desire to justify and celebrate their conquering, and if that story gets passed along through time, it becomes an accepted fact rather than a propagandistic perception. Only in the last few years has there been major pushback from folks of all stripes on the historical perception of Christopher Columbus, who for hundreds of years has been hailed as the founder of the "New World," which isn't true at all. Most stories need heroes, and if you've silenced those who oppose you, you can claim to the hero yourself.

The true lives of so many kings, queens, and emperors have been lost to history – their faces scratched off coins, their names scrubbed from the record, and, in the case of Richard III, their stories turned into villainous pageantry by one William Shakespeare. Separating fact from historical propaganda is steady and ponderous work, a series of slow-motion spats confined to lecture theatres and academic annuals. It’s hardly the stuff of celluloid dreams. That’s what led to the hypocrisy of The Lost King, Stephen Frears’s comedy drama about the discovery of Richard III’s skeleton. Its self-congratulatory crusade to restore its subject’s reputation has, for the sake of entertainment, distorted reality to the point that it borders on farce.

After the success of their Oscar-nominated collaboration on the 2013 drama “Philomena,” starring Judi Dench, director Stephen Frears and star-screenwriter Steve Coogan were eager to team up once again — similarly this time on a true-life-inspired tale about amateur sleuthing.

“The Lost King” tells the story of Philippa Langley (Sally Hawkins), a self-guided historian who seemingly stumbles upon the remains of Richard III, only to be thwarted by various forces that doubt her discovery, much of them in academia.

Frears and Coogan stopped by TheWrap and Shutterstock’s Interview and Portrait Studio at the Toronto International Film Festival to discuss what drew them to work together on this unique project, which also rejoined them with “Philomena” composer Alexandre Desplat, co-writer Jeff Pope and producer Christine Langan.
