Brooklyn Nine-Nine Reunion Gets Disappointing Update After Terry Crews' Perfect Idea
Image
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of the rare sitcoms that only gets better with time. Not only was its storyline intriguing and rewarding, with amazing writing and a great cast, but the character development, diversity, and approach to sensitive themes stood the test of time.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine aired between 2013 and 2021, and wrapped up after eight seasons. The sitcom had an ensemble cast led by Andy Samberg, and also starred Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio, Chelsea Peretti, Dirk Blocker, Joel McKinnon Miller, and the late Andre Braugher. Conversations about a reunion have been going on since the series finale, and in ScreenRant's new video series Debunking AI, Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz weighed in on Terry Crews' suggested reunion idea.

The actress is promoting the new season of Twisted Metal, where she stars as Quiet, and fact-checked several questions answered by AI on search engines. There were several related to Brooklyn Nine-Nine,...

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Star Recalls Creating The Show's Greatest Dynamic With The Late Andre Braugher
Image
Brooklyn Nine-Nine features great character dynamics throughout its eight seasons, and one star recently recalled creating one of the best bonds of the show with the late Andre Braugher. Braugher played the serious but lovable Captain Holt in the NBC sitcom. He passed away in 2023, but his legacy remains with both fans of his work and his co-stars.

And Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg reflected on his time working with Braugher in an interview with People. The upbeat and lighthearted personality of Samberg's Jake Peralta created the perfect contrast to Braugher's police captain, delivering plenty of comical moments on-screen.

According to Samberg, the actors clicked instantly at their first table read, which explains a lot:

"Our dynamic worked immediately. It was like one of those things where you’re just like, ‘Okay, this is kismet.' I don’t know how to explain it."

It's clear that the Brooklyn Nine-Nine...

Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Andy Samberg Remembers 'Good Person' Andre Braugher
Image
Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher formed a great comedy partnership on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Braugher shockingly passed away in 2023, and now Samberg is sharing his memories of working with Braugher.

Samberg spoke about his relationship with Braugher with other comedians. He made the comments on Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast, via Entertainment Weekly. Poehler said of Braugher, "I never had the pleasure of meeting him, he seemed like he was just playful and fun,” to which Samberg answered, “He was, and just a good person," before going more in-depth.

Braugher played Captain Raymond Holt, a police captain who takes Samberg's Jake Peralta under his wing and forms an almost father-son-like relationship with him. Samberg described him to Poehler as “so deeply moral and kind and pleasant and smart,” before saying, “We all absolutely loved him. I miss him a lot.”

Brooklyn Nine-Nine had a memorable cast. In addition to Samberg,...

‘Long Live The State’: An Examination Of The MTV Sketch Group’s Enduring Legacy In Comedy – Comedy Means Business Podcast
Image
In the arts, it’s always fascinating to look at the phenomenon of the “scene” — a cluster of creative talents emerging in one place, at one particular time, before shooting off to success on their own separate trajectories.

In 2000s New York alone, you saw multiple examples between music and film. On the music side, you had the convergence of indie artists like The Strokes, Interpol, and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, as illustrated in the 2017 book and sequent 2022 documentary Meet Me in the Bathroom. At the same time, on the film side, you saw the rise of artists like Noah Baumbach and Darren Aronofsky who remain some of today’s most prominent. In the world of comedy, there have been many scenes, but one of the most interesting would have to be the group of writer-performers emerging from New York University in the late 1980s who came to be known as The State.

Why MTV's The State Ended And Created A Rift Between The Alternative Sketch Comedy Group
Image
Back in the 1990s, sketch comedy was mostly dominated by "Saturday Night Live." After a rough patch in the 1980s, the series rose to prominence again thanks to the talents of "Wayne's World" stars Mike Myers and Dana Carvey, Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Cheri Oteri, Molly Shannon, and more. But during this time, there were also a series of worthy, alternative sketch comedy competitors that offered a nice change of pace from the mainstream network laughs of "SNL."

From the delightfully Canadian comedy of "Kids in the Hall," to the diverse hilarity of "In Living Color," the short-lived but brilliant "The Dana Carvey Show," to the madness of "Upright Citizens Brigade," there was a sketch comedy show for everyone. But perhaps the series that would go on to have the biggest impact in pop culture's future was MTV's "The State," named after the comedy troupe of the same name.

‘The Four Seasons’ Standout Kerri Kenney-Silver Talks Learning to Do Everything Yourself | ‘What No One Tells You’
Image
Building your professional toolkit is not an overnight task. For actress/writer/comedienne Kerri Kenney-Silver, even though she continues to adapt with more dramatic work like “The Four Seasons,” she still holds true to what she learned when pursuing sketch comedy in college: Know how to do it all.

Speaking to IndieWire’s Future of Filmmaking for the latest episode of “What No One Tells You,” Kenney-Silver said of her early years in comedy, “You are doing everything. You are the prop master. You are doing your own makeup. You’re slapping on wigs. You’ve got Ziplocs full of mustaches.”

The sketch group Kenney-Silver joined at New York University would go on to become the beloved comedy troupe The State, which also featured David Wain, Joe Lo Truglio, Thomas Lennon, Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter, and Ken Marino. When they were just starting out in 1992, every aspect of their performances were self-curated.

The One ‘Brooklyn 99’ Duo That Deserved a Spinoff, And No It’s Not Gina and Jake
Image
Brooklyn Nine-Nine features some brilliant characters who gel pretty well together. Be it Rosa and Amy, Jake and Boyle, or even Hitchcock and Scully, fans have loved every combination and permutation of the cast as duos. However, there is one that has not received a lot of screen time but is arguably one of the funniest pairs in the whole show.

If there was ever a spin-off based on one of these relationships, it should have been between Captain Holt and Charles Boyle, which would have resulted in some epic hilarity. Holt’s overtly stoic demeanor would have contrasted perfectly with Boyle’s over-emotional eccentricities.

After Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Netflix Revives Andy Samberg’s $9M Cult Comedy Flop
Image
Over the years, Netflix has cultivated a reputation for providing a new lease of life to movies and shows that met with an unfortunate fate initially. While some actors get the second once, for Andy Samberg, the scope of a Netflix revival came twice.

After the streaming giant stood beside Samberg’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine since 2014, Netflix is now reviving the 46-year-old actor’s 2016 box-office disaster, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

When the Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping was released in 2016, it made only $9.7 million after being made on a budget of $20 million. However, over time, the film has gained moderately positive reviews and is now eyeing a second life on Netflix.

Andy Samberg’s Popstar is coming to Netflix nine years after its release

Almost nine years after its initial theatrical release, Andy Samberg’s music comedy has come on Netflix, and the streaming service took to its social media to announce the news.

Jon Hamm, John Slattery, Zoey Deutch Join David Wain's New Comedy
Image
Jon Hamm has been on fire lately, isn't he? The Mad Men actor has found success with his new AppleTV+ show, Your Friends and Neighbors, and is playing a private eye in a new Audible Original. And now that he's filled up our televisions and audio queues, he's determined to head back to the big screen as well, in a new movie that will reunite him with writer/actor/director David Wain. It's a film so audacious as to be described as "off-the-rails," that producer Anthony Bregman claims the script made him laugh harder than the time he read Wet Hot American Summer (a film Wain co-wrote) for the first time.

In a new report from Variety, it was revealed that the film will star Zoey Deutch and co-writer Ken Marino (another longtime Wain collaborator). Sabrina Impacciatore (of The White Lotus Season 2 fame), Ben Wang, and Miles Gutierrez-Riley are also in the ensemble.

Mad Men (2007)
Grab a pack of Lucky Strikes, and pour yourself some Canadian Club rye because a Mad Men reunion (of sorts) is on the horizon. According to Variety, Jon Hamm and John Slattery will star alongside Zoey Deutch for an untitled R-rated comedy from Wet Hot American Summer and Childrens Hospital director David Wain.

The project, which has a placeholder title of Untitled Celebrity Pass Movie, is described as an “off-the-rails odyssey through modern day Hollywood.” David Wain directs the film from a script he co-wrote with Ken Marino, who also stars in the comedy with Sabrina Impacciatore, Ben Wang, and Miles Gutierrez-Riley.

In the untitled film, “a Midwestern bride-to-be, Gail Daughtry (Deutch), has a celebrity hall pass agreement with her fiancé… who uses it. With their relationship in crisis, Gail sets out on an epic journey through Hollywood to even the scales.”

“I have been excited about working with David...

12 Best TV Shows Like The Office

In 2015, there's countless more channels that existed in those days, but even with an endless amount of content to watch at any given moment, many viewers always find themselves drawn back to one particular modern classic: "The Office."

The mockumentary sitcom was adapted for American audiences on NBC in 2005, swapping out Gervais for Steve Carell, then known for his work on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart." The show also boasted a supporting cast including future Hollywood icons like John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, and Mindy Kaling.

All 3 The Big Bang Theory Actors Who Appear In Night Court
Image
Several The Big Bang Theory stars appear in the revival of Night Court. The remade version of Night Court shares several things in common with the original version, which starred Harry Anderson as Judge Harry Stone and dealt with a variety of quirky courthouse employees and visitors to the court. The new version of the series is connected to The Big Bang Theory in several ways, chief among them that the leading role, Judge Abby Stone, is played by Melissa Rauch, who played Bernadette on the popular sitcom about a group of scientists.

Although Rauch is the only The Big Bang Theory alum in the Night Court season 3 cast, the series has other connections to her previous sitcom. Notably, two of Rauch's fellow co-stars have visited Night Court so far. These actors did not play their characters from The Big Bang Theory, but the episodes were considered reunions because of...

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 9 - Will It Ever Happen?
Image
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" first aired on Fox in the fall of 2013, immediately cementing itself as yet another classic from Michael Schur ("Parks & Recreation") and Dan Goor — so why did it end, and will we ever get another season?

The comedy, which was led by "Saturday Night Live" alum Andy Samberg alongside a perfect ensemble cast including Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Lo Truglio, Dirk Blocker, and Joel McKinnon Miller, focused on the 99th precinct in Brooklyn and their constant misadventures in policing — and that description alone might give you a clue as to why the series ended if you've, say, watched or read any news since 2020 or so. The show came to a close in the fall of 2021 with its eighth and final season after facing delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but even getting to eight seasons wasn't easy for this little show that could...

House Creator Addresses What House Is Up to Today, Talks Potential of Spinoff or Revival
Image
Two decades after the debut of House M.D., creator David Shore is keeping the door open for a potential revival. Making that happen, however, would require certain conditions to be met.

Shore opened up about House in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. In the series finale, House (Hugh Laurie) faked his death and was last seen going on a motorcycle road trip with Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard), whose cancer diagnosis left him with a handful of months to live. Over 12 years after the final House episode aired, Shore was asked about what House is up to in 2024. However, he doesn't want to be specific, as he's still thinking about actually checking back in with House by pursuing a new story. Even if that never happens, Shore also appreciates how the ambiguity keeps the fans guessing.

Much of his work is the result either of his own creative will or that of his former troupe-mates, the group having spread through the industry to wreak hilarious havoc. They often explore absurd angles on popular genres such as medical dramas and reality dating shows. At the same time, he's a familiar face on a smorgasbord of network sitcoms, as well as a few audacious dramedies you'll certainly want to add to your watch list.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Actor Says Series Revival Is Unlikely
Image
Police procedural sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine aired its eighth and final season in 2021. While fans have been clamoring for more comedic shenanigans, a revival is not on the cards.

Melissa Fumero, who played Amy Santiago, recently told ScreenRant that while the concept of a revival is exciting, they would not be able to shoot more episodes without the late Andre Braugher. "We've definitely all played with the idea, and we definitely all miss each other so much, and miss spending our days together," she said. "I don't think we could ever do it, though, without Andre, so I don't know that that would happen. But, yeah, I hope to work in other things with everyone," the actor explained.

Ryan Reynolds Parodies Netflix's Holiday Hit 'Hot Frosty' For Aviation Gin
Image
Ryan Reynolds is bringing his own (grim) twist to the holiday season with a hilarious spoof of Netflix's hit film, Hot Frosty. In a new ad for his Aviation Gin, Reynolds voices a muscular snowman who bears a striking resemblance to himself. The commercial playfully parodies the Netflix holiday rom-com that follows a widow who brings a handsome snowman to life. While Hot Frosty focuses on said snowman finding love, Reynolds' ad takes a more comedic approach and sees a different outcome for its snowman. This time, the protagonist isn't interested in romance with a chiseled snowman, but rather a bottle of gin.

Reynolds and his Maximum Effort banner have a knack for creating clever ads for his gin brand. Last year, they delivered two memorable holiday ads. For Just Friendsgiving, Reynolds reunited with his Just Friends co-star Amy Smart; for the brand's Christmas ad, Gingle Bells, Reynolds taps...

Hot Frosty Ending, Explained: How Come Jack Doesnt Melt?
Image
The days are shorter, the air is chilling, and Netflix just released Hot Frosty the perfect Christmas rom-com to keep viewers warm and cozy throughout the upcoming holiday season. The film stars Lacey Chabert (Mean Girls) as Kathy, a widow unable to move past her husband's untimely death. She puts all of her energy into taking care of everyone around her, hoping to be distracted from her grief and just make it through each day. All that changes when she is gifted a magic scarf that transforms a hunky snowman contest entry into a real-life suitor, Jack, played by Dustin Milligan (Schitt's Creek).

This reimagining of a classic Christmas fairy-tale endears audiences (and makes them sweat). It gets away with cheesy jokes and the superficial oggling of a snowman come-to-life through its heartwarming sincerity and messages about spreading joy to find one's own. However, snowman stories of the past usually...

4 Years After Schitt's Creek's Ending, Dustin Milligan's New Netflix Christmas Movie Is A Great Replacement For Season 7
Image
Although it will be difficult for anything to replace Schitt's Creek for the cast, Dustin Milligan's 2024 Netflix Christmas movie comes pretty close. The Canadian sitcom, created by Dan Levy and Eugene Levy, revolves around the (formerly) rich Rose family, who are forced to move to Schitt's Creek once they lose their fortune. The family previously bought the town as a joke, but it completely alters their lives over the course of Schitt's Creek's six seasons. In the comedy series, Milligan stars as Ted Mullens, the veterinarian in Schitt's Creek who serves as one of Alexis Rose's love interests.

Schitt's Creek won various awards over the course of its run, including nine Primetime Emmy Awards.

Throughout Schitt's Creek, Alexis and Ted have an on-and-off relationship. While it was always obvious that they were meant to end up together, the final season of Schitt's Creek ends with Alexis and...

Netflix's Christmas Movie With 89% Rt Score Becomes No. 1 Movie As The Holiday Begins
Image
Netflix's new Christmas movie with an 89% Rotten Tomatoes score becomes the streaming service's No. 1 movie as the holiday season begins. Netflix has been producing original Christmas movies since 2017, starting with A Christmas Prince. Since then, the streaming service has solidified its reputation as a go-to platform for holiday films with titles like The Princess Switch starring Vanessa Hudgens, The Christmas Chronicles starring Kurt Russell, and Klaus, an Oscar-nominated animated movie, exemplifying the diversity of Netflix's Christmas movie catalog.

In 2024, Netflix already had the holiday romantic comedy, Meet Me Next Christmas, top its Global Top 10 chart for the week of November 410 with over 18 million views. The holiday season is just beginning, so there should be plenty more Christmas movies appearing on Netflix's global chart before the year's end. This includes Netflix's new romantic comedy Christmas movie starring Lacey Chabert, a frequent star of Hallmark's Christmas movies, which has become the streaming service's new No.

'Hot Frosty' Star Dustin Milligan Talks About Awkward Nude Scenes
Image
Schitts Creek star Dustin Milligan has been turning heads on Netflix recently with his turn as a hot snowman in the holiday rom-com Hot Frosty, but it seems that he was not quite comfortable with the attention being given to him on set. The newest addition to the streamers festive movie line-up has been dominating the chart since its release, and for now it doesnt show any signs of giving up the top spot easily.

Starring Milligan and original Mean Girls star Lacey Chabert, the whimsical, if at times steamy rom-com, about a woman who brings a snowman to life with the use of a magical scarf, is proving that even the most ridiculous sounding movies can be successful especially when the film landed a perfect critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. While the film is proving to be another huge Netflix hit, for its buffed up male lead, that success...

This Year's Goofiest, Strangest Christmas Movie Has Taken Over Netflix
Image
For many years, the Hallmark Channel seemed to have a monopoly on the made-for-tv Christmas rom-com subgenre. But as streamers like Netflix continue to become the main source of entertainment for millions of people across the globe, they've been expanding their original offerings to include these silly, saccharine, and undeniably addictive movies that people can't seem to get enough of during the holiday season. Sure, there are some that simply hate-watch these types of stories about high-powered women who visit their humble hometowns for the holidays and decide to give it all up to fall back in love with their now-hunky high school sweethearts who own farms and exclusively wear festive flannels, but there are plenty of people who genuinely, unapologetically love these movies.

Netflix hasn't been afraid to embrace even the most absurd set-ups for these movies, establishing its own very real and legitimate multiverse of holiday movies. However,...

Hot Frosty 2 Already Has A Huge Jack Mystery To Solve That Netflix's Christmas Movie Shockingly Ignored
Image
Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from Hot Frosty.

If a Netflix Christmas movie is successful, it usually gets a sequel, meaning a second Hot Frosty film is a likely possibility, and it can answer one of the story's unanswered mysteries. The holiday fantasy romantic comedy centers around a widow who accidentally brings a snowman to life. Over the course of Hot Frosty, the two characters fall in love and must find a way to be together before he inevitably melts.

Other Hot Frosty cast members include Craig Robinson as Sheriff Hunter, Joe Lo Truglio as Deputy Sheriff Schatz, Katy Mixon Greer as Dottie, and Sherry Miller as Mel, the catalyst for the entire tale. Mel is the one who gives Kathy the red scarf that turns Jack into a human. Kathy stumbles upon him (as a snowman) in the town square, where a snowman-building contest takes place. She...

Lacey Chabert & Dustin Milligan Reveal That Hot Frosty Has More Layers Than Any Netflix Christmas Movie Should
Image
Hot Frosty takes the concept introduced in the song Frosty the Snowman to brand-new heights, turning it into a romantic comedy. The Netflix original is one of several Christmas movies coming to the streaming service this holiday season, with this entry adding a festive dose of magical realism to the platform. The film stars Mean Girls Lacey Chabert and Dustin Milligan of Schitt's Creek as the romantic leads, alongside comedic powerhouses like Brooklyn 99s Joe Lo Truglio and The Offices Craig Robinson.

Chabert plays Kathy, a woman still mourning the death of her husband that happened two years prior as Christmas approaches. One night, she places a scarf on a snowman displayed in the town center, only for him to come to life overnight. Assuming the name Jack (Milligan), the now-sentient snowman struggles to adjust to his corporeal form as he grows closer to Kathy. However, his existence is in...

Netflix's 'Hot Frosty' Delivers a Perfect Christmas Rom-Com with 'Mean Girls'' Lacey Chabert
Image
Netflix subscribers love of big, brash action movies has been put on ice as Christmas approaches, with another new festive movie landing a perfect debut on the platform. Meet Me Next Christmas is still topping the global chart (at the time of writing), but the U.S. chart is being dominated by another offering that screams Hallmark Channel in the well-formed Hot Frosty. And there is a good reason why this movie comes with all the hallmarks of the cable network, as it stars the queen of Hallmark movies and Mean Girls star Lacey Chabert in the lead role.

Judging a book by its cover, Hot Frosty has a cheesy, ludicrous, destined-to-fail plot about a widowed woman who, with the use of an enchanted scarf, turns a regular snowman into a hunk with abs, and they spend a romantic Christmas together. Even the overly happy poster art leans into this being another schmaltzy,...

There’s a famous New York café called Serendipity 3 that serves a monstrously sugary dessert called a frozen hot chocolate. This similarly contradictory title hides an equally over-sweetened centre to Netflix’s latest piece of hunky Christmas junk. A snowman comes to life in a small town, warms the cockles of all who meet him and strikes up a non-steamy romance with a comely widow. This will only rise above your expectations if you keep them well below freezing.

Our big-hearted hero is Lacey Chabert’s Kathy, who owns a “kafe” (a Kardashians fan?) and is kind to everyone – even, it turns out, inanimate snow sculptures (snow that looks a lot like polystyrene), one of which she adorns with a red scarf that’s expressly been given to her. This regifting has the unexpected consequence of bringing the sculpture to six-packing life. The tall glass of vanilla ice goes...
