Taylor Sheridan's 'Tulsa King' Spin-Off Starring Samuel L. Jackson Loses Showrunner
Image
Taylor Sheridan's work can be seen everywhere, from being the co-creator of the hit neo-Western drama series Yellowstone to the crime drama Tulsa King on Paramount+. Now, the writer is preparing for Tulsa King's spin-off, Nola King, starring one of the greatest actors of all time, Samuel L. Jackson. While the upcoming series is highly anticipated, production hit a major snag recently that puts a temporary dent in its timeline. According to Variety, Dave Erickson, who co-created Fear the Walking Dead, signed on as the spin-off's showrunner but had to depart due to a scheduling conflict. The series hasn't been greenlit by Paramount+ yet, but the search for another showrunner is active as the series is a high priority.

Erickson is still the showrunner for Mayor of Kingstown (joined in the second season) and Tulsa King (joined in season 3). The good news is that there are a variety of great showrunners in the industry,...

Christopher Nolan Reveals Being Inspired By Dominic West’s Gem For Lifestyle Choice
Image
The longstanding murmur in Hollywood has been that Christopher Nolan is a creative genius who doesn’t believe in mortal distractions like cellphones. Surprisingly, however, he is not disconnected from humanity!

As it happens, the Oscar-winning filmmaker does carry something similar to a cellphone (not exactly so), if and when need arises. Nevertheless, the British-born director admitted once that this lifestyle choice did not come impromptu, but rather he got inspired by one of Dominic West’s cult classics that premiered more than two decades ago.

The show the Oppenheimer director was referencing was, of course, the popular crime drama that caused a storm on television screens when it first premiered – The Wire.

Christopher Nolan admitted to using ‘dumb phones’ to maintain secrecy

As Christopher Nolan was busy doing the promotional tour for his Oscar-winning Oppenheimer, the 54-year-old director stopped by the sets of Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

‘Tulsa King’s Sylvester Stallone Stares Down His Captor in New Season 3 Image
Image
Trouble is never too far from Sylvester Stallone's Dwight Manfredi in the Paramount+ crime series, Tulsa King. For all intents and purposes, since getting out of prison in Season 1, New York mafia capo, Dwight, has attracted trouble even when he doesn't go looking for it. Despite his triumph over Neal McDonough's Cal Thresher and Rich Ting's Jackie Ming in Season 2, Dwight ended the season by being abducted from his bed in the middle of the night by unknown gunmen. Season 3 of Tulsa King is officially filming, and while there is no release date yet, the legendary star has taken to Instagram to share an image from the new season.

Taking to his personal account, Stallone shared a photo of Dwight in the same interrogation room he was bundled into by the masked operatives who broke into his home in the Season 2 finale. Dwight was slightly shaken by...

Tulsa King Season 3: Everything We Know So Far
Image
Sylvester Stallone might have a new title as President Trump's "special ambassador to Hollywood," but he's still sitting on the throne as the "Tulsa King." Yes, the Paramount+ juggernaut, one in a long line of Taylor Sheridan produced series, will be returning for a third season.

It makes sense that actor turned prolific TV creative has been able to create so many of these shows (considering he wrote the "Tulsa King" pilot in less than 24 hours), and yet, despite the quick script, some say "Tulsa King" may be Sheridan's best work (or at least the most entertaining of the bunch). The tale of Dwight "The General" Manfredi (Stallone) and rise from exiled New York mafia soldier to kingpin of Tulsa, Oklahoma has produced some of the funniest, strangest characters in the entire Sheridan universe. It has also helped turn the show into a hit for Paramount+, which has...

4 top Taylor Sheridan shows to binge over a weekend
Image
If you're here, then one or more of the following three things are true: It's the weekend, you're looking for something to watch, and you're a fan of Taylor Sheridan's shows. Thankfully, you have come to the right place for a recommendation of which of his shows to binge-watch this weekend. There's a lot of them, so it's entirely possible that you haven't watched them all.

Since debuting Yellowstone on the Paramount Network in 2018, Sheridan has expanded his television universe quite a bit in the following year, branching out with an extension of the franchise on streaming. Even beyond the Yellowstone series, Sheridan has additional star-studded shows like Lioness and Lawmen: Bass Reeves that are also worthing binge-watching.

But we're narrowing the list down to the four shows that will soon be returning with new seasons (or spinoffs) and can be binge-watch in a weekend. Since Yellowstone's five...

Sylvester Stallone Teases “Devious” Season 3 of Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Tulsa King’
Image
We might not have a release date yet, but Tulsa King Season 3 is officially underway — and Sylvester Stallone is already stirring the pot. The action legend took to Instagram to tease what's coming next for his fish-out-of-water mobster Dwight “The General” Manfredi, and according to Stallone, the plan for the new season is nothing short of devious. That’s right — Dwight’s return to Tulsa isn’t going to be smooth sailing. But did anyone really expect it would be?

“This is my friend, Frank Grillo,” Stallone says in a new behind-the-scenes video, as filming for Season 3 continues. “We’re about to do something a little devious in the name of commerce. It’s not like we’re thieves, right? We’re actually trying to retrieve what belongs to us. I have a feeling it’s going to go sideways.” Grillo — who joined the series in Season 2 as dangerous businessman Bill Bevilaqua — added,...

In a recent interview with Collider, McDonough reveals that Thresher comes back in a big way in Tulsa King season 3, now serving as the governor of Oklahoma. The star explains that this evolution for Thresher was actually his idea, and executive producer David Glasser ended up writing it into the show. Check out McDonough's explanation below:

Quirkiest action movie on Netflix is sadly leaving soon
Image
In the early days, before movies became talkies, it was easy to show foreign films in the USA. Just insert new title cards in English, and film fans in St. Louis could watch and understand the latest offering from France or Germany. But then sound came and changed everything.

Of course, distributors in the United States could add subtitles or dub in new voices, but if they really wanted to sell the movie to an American audience, they could also just go ahead and make a new, English-language version.

Whether it is repurposing the Japanese classic Rashomon as The Outrage or taking Spain’s Abre los ojos and turning it into Vanilla Sky, producers in the USA are constantly scouring the globe for some hot property to acquire, rewrite, recast, and in so doing, capture a whole new audience.

‘Tulsa King’ Season 2 Continues To Build Record Viewership As Taylor Sheridan’s Dominance On Paramount+ Persists
Image
Exclusive: Tulsa King is still pulling its weight over at Paramount+ as Season 2 has become one of the three biggest domestic originals in the streaming service’s history.

The second season, which wrapped up on November 17, has reached 13.6M global households to date, according to Paramount Global. It trails only behind Taylor Sheridan’s other hit 1923 and its own first season.

(It’s common for Paramount+ to tout global households rather that viewers, since the company can’t determine how many people are watching via a single stream, or if anyone is actually watching at all.)

This is a victory not only for Stallone and Sheridan, but for MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, which have been on a winning streak as of late. They also produce 1923 as well as Landman, which recently had the biggest global series premiere for Paramount+ in two years.

The Sylvester Stallone-led series has...

Image
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Tulsa King season 2, episode 10.The ending of Tulsa King season 2 tied up quite a few loose ends in Dwight Manfredi's (Sylvester Stallone) story, but it also left some major questions unanswered. Jackie Ming (Rich Ting) and Chickie Invernizzi (Domenick Lombardozzi) were both dead, Cal Thresher (Neal McDonough) had gotten out of the weed business, and Bill Bevilaqua (Frank Grillo) had partnered with Dwight. Dwight found a new enemy in the season's final moments, though, when he was kidnapped by a secretive group.

“Dwight didn’t even blink at the headshot”: Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King Season 2 Episode 10 Secretly Turned Dwight into a Criminal Mastermind
Image
Coming off the back of several underwhelming episodes, the final episode in Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King season 2 had some big boots to fill. Although the finale doesn’t quite succeed in leaving an indelible mark on the medium of television, one thing that this episode, and the show in general, has got continuously right is Sylvester Stallone’s Dwight.

While Dwight has proven to be a lot more humane than some other notable gangsters in fiction, which helps his character to stand out, the finale does briefly touch on his coldness, proving why he is the rightful king of Tulsa.

The Finale Briefly Sheds Light on Dwight’s Ruthlessness in Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King

Although Reconstruction did tie up a lot of loose ends, a lot of it was pretty underwhelming, whether it be Thresher’s exit or Chickie’s death. Even though the...

Chickie Just Explained Exactly How A Tulsa King Spinoff Show Can Work
Image
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Tulsa King season 2, episode 10.Chickie Invernizzi (Domenick Lombardozzi) perfectly explained how Tulsa King can explain future spinoff shows, and how Dwight Manfredi's (Sylvester Stallone) criminal empire can expand well past Oklahoma. Tulsa King and Dwight's criminal empire have already grown significantly since he first went to Oklahoma. The cast of Tulsa King has expanded to include new allies and enemies, and Dwight's businesses have gone from simple extortion to an inter-state marijuana industry. Now, as Tulsa King season 3 draws nearer, the show is likely looking for another way to expand.

Luckily, Chickie gave Tulsa King the perfect way to continue getting bigger and better, and it's not with a simple continuation of Dwight's story. Like several other Taylor Sheridan TV shows, Tulsa King could begin to create spinoffs. The only problem with that plan is that Tulsa King has largely relied on Sylvester Stallone's star power,...

Image
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Tulsa King season 2, episode 9.The finale of Tulsa King season 2 likely has a few surprises left in store, and one of them could concern Chickie Invernizzi (Domenick Lombardozzi). Even though the cast of Tulsa King season 2 has grown since the show started and Dwight Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) has gotten more enemies, Chickie has remained a thorn in the gangster's side. Even though Dwight killed his main opponent, Jackie Ming (Rich Ting), he'll still have to deal with Chickie in the finale of Tulsa King season 2. Chickie, however, may have a surprise up his sleeve.

Throughout Tulsa King season 2, Chickie has been on a downward spiral. He was losing control of his gang from the very beginning, and he was almost completely ousted by Vince (Vincent Piazza). Chickie has been almost completely ineffective as both a mob boss and a villain for the entire season,...

The second season of Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King is yet to find its groove, and with two more episodes to go, things aren’t looking any brighter. While many aspects of this season have been underwhelming, compared to its predecessor, excluding Sylvester Stallone’s Dwight, the character of Jay Will’s Tyson is arguably one of the series’ biggest disappointments so far.

While the two concurrent shows Tulsa King and The Penguin have some parallels on paper, including the characters of Vic and Tyson, on execution, the former has certainly prevailed. Although Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King isn’t exactly notable for its critical prowess, as the show doesn’t shy away from leaning towards more absurd territories, there has been a notable letdown in terms of writing.

It’s not unusual for actors with big stature to get typecast into physically dominating roles, and similar has been the case for Domenick Lombardozzi throughout his career. Since hitting it big in the early 2000s, following his stint in the highly acclaimed The Wire, the actor has continued to star in projects that fed into his tough guy onscreen persona.
