Biography

    • Nick Long Jr. was born on August 14, 1906 in Greenlawn, Long Island, New York, USA. He was an actor and production designer, known for King of Burlesque (1936), When Love Is Young (1937) and The Oakdale Affair (1919). He died on August 31, 1949 in New York City, New York, USA.

Trivia

  • Many of Long's contemporaries considered him a potential rival to Fred Astaire, but despite his terpsichorean talents (best showcased in Broadway Melody of 1936) Long never caught on with movie audiences, and ended his career appearing in nightclubs rather than on the silver screen or on the Broadway stage.
  • Son of actor Nick Long.
  • Long died as the result of serious head injuries incurred in a 1949 automobile crash which occurred at 2am in Manhattan. The other driver survived, suffering only a broken leg.
  • Grandson of famous American minstrel performer, Ben Cotton.
  • Performed in the pioneer BBC Television Broadcast, "Autumn Laughter" September 21st and 23rd, 1938 with Danny Kaye.
