Chelsea Handler-Produced Comedies in the Works at Peacock and HBO Max
Chelsea Handler
A pair of Chelsea Handler-produced comedies are in the works at a pair of streaming services, one at NBCUniversal’s Peacock and the other at WarnerMedia’s HBO Max.

“Blair,” a series based on the Mo Welch comic strip, has received a script sale at HBO Max, while the Charles Morris-created “Wiped Out” has been purchased by Peacock, a spokesperson for Universal Television — the studio producing both projects, and where Handler has a first-look deal — tells TheWrap.

Welch created and wrote “Blair” based on his own comic strip. Gay Soccer Star Robbie Rogers on His New Memoir, ABC Sitcom and Boyfriend Greg Berlanti
Greg Berlanti
It’s been quite a year for soccer star Robbie Rogers. Ever since the 27-year-old athlete first came out as gay in 2013 and subsequently announced his retirement from the sport, he’s been making headlines -- for all the right reasons. Not only did he help lead the charge for gay athletes to come out -- his announcement was quickly followed by NBA player Jason Collins and, earlier this year, NFL prospect Michael Sam -- Rogers signed with the La Galaxy to become the first openly gay player in a major U.S. sports league and helped change the landscape for Lgbt athletes.

In the months since, Rogers has become a star himself and expanded his reach beyond sports. In addition to starting a men’s fashion line, Halsey, he has also dabbled in modeling, teamed up with author Eric Marcus to write his new memoir, Coming Out to Play, which is in stores...

'How To Live With Your Parents' Has Died
Elizabeth Perkins, Brad Garrett, and Sarah Chalke in How to Live with Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life) (2013)
"How To Live With Your Parents" has been canceled.

ABC has decided not to pick up the comedy, which starred Sarah Chalke as a newly-divorced mom who moves back in with her mom (Elizabeth Perkins) and step-father (Brad Garrett), for a second season.

Creator Claudia Lonow, whose life inspired "How To Live With Your Parents," tweeted about the cancellation with some humor:

'How to Live With Your Parents' Sarah Chalke: 'I relate to it so much'
Sarah Chalke, who became known from "Roseanne" as the second Becky as well as nine seasons of "Scrubs," returns to sitcoms Wednesdays on ABC's "How to Live With Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life)."

The blonde Canadian was a teen when she played Becky, and now her character, single mom Polly, has a daughter of her own on this sitcom, modeled after creator Claudia Lonow's life.

"It is a really cool experience as an actor because there is so much info there, and there is so much more to draw from," Chalke tells Zap2it. "Claudia was telling me about the script and her life, and basically she showed up on her parents' doorstep and said, 'I hope it's not a bad time for you. It is for me.' "

Polly's parents, Elaine and Max (Elizabeth Perkins, Brad Garrett), had been sexually engaged, and are not thrilled to see Polly.

Sarah Chalke On Her Return To A Starring TV Role
John C. McGinley, Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, Neil Flynn, Ken Jenkins, and Judy Reyes in Scrubs (2001)
Sarah Chalke makes her regular return to TV with "How To Live With Your Parents (For The Rest Of Your Life)" this week.

The "Scrubs" alumna completes her TV career 180 with the ABC comedy: Chalke, who played eldest Connor child Becky on "Roseanne," is now playing a TV mom.

"How To Live With Your Parents" follows Chalke's Polly, who's just recently divorced her irresponsible husband Julian (Jon Dore). Due to financial struggles, she and her five-year-old daughter Natalie (Rachel Eggleston) move in with her vulgar mom Elaine (Elizabeth Perkins) and uber-chill stepfather Max (Brad Garrett). But the uptight young mother's parenting ideals clash with Elaine and Max's improvisational and eccentric lifestyle. (As you've probably seen in previews, there is underwear in lunchboxes and coffee at bedtime when Natalie is under Elaine and Max's rule -- or lack thereof.)

Below, Chalke opens up to The Huffington Post about her return to TV,...

Seitz: How to Live With Your Parents Is a Charming Study of Arrested Development
Jason Bateman, Jeffrey Tambor, Will Arnett, Portia de Rossi, Michael Cera, David Cross, Tony Hale, Alia Shawkat, and Jessica Walter in Arrested Development (2003)
Arrested Development’s influence is all over ABC’s likable but unfortunately titled How to Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life) (ABC, Wednesdays, 9:30). Fast cutting, cute onscreen I.D. tags, plinky-plonky music, winsome narration: It’s all here, plus Modern Family’s conventional-unconventional view of suburban life. One of the show’s three executive producers is Arrested Development vet Brian Grazer, but I doubt his presence alone explains the affinity; more likely this is just how creator-executive producer Claudia Lonow (Rude Awakenings, The War at Home) saw the story. Whatever the motivation, the result is quite likable, if knowingly obnoxious at times.Sarah Chalke plays the heroine and narrator, Polly, a recent divorcée with a young daughter named Natalie (Rachel Eggleston). She moves back in with her mom, Elaine (Elizabeth Perkins), and stepdad, Max (Brad Garrett), thinking it’ll be a temporary safe harbor, but...

Scrubs Lady Changing Into Grey’s Anatomy Scrubs?
Sarah Chalke and Judy Reyes were for a long time the first ladies of the Zach Braff starring medical comedy, Scrubs as Elliot and Carla. Now Chalke has found her way back into the halls of a busy hospital. This time she’ll appear at Seattle Grace for ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. The big question is this one: Will she be wearing scrubs again?

The answer is: It’s possible. Grey’s will welcome Chalke as a guest star sometime this spring, as we learned from TV Line. Details about her character, however are severely lacking. Perhaps we’ll learn more soon. Either way, seeing this actress pop up on a new series is always very charming.

Chalke’s stint on How I Met Your Mother in the role of Stella was quite memorable. More recently she enjoyed a four-episode run on Cougar Town as Angie LeClaire. You will...

'How to Live With Your Parents' creator: I still live with my parents
ABC's midseason comedy "How to Live With Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life)" has by far the longest title of any new show this season. It also may have the most autobiographical title.

Series creator Claudia Lonow ("Accidentally on Purpose," "Less Than Perfect") says she has lived with her folks for the past 15 years, and she plans on mining her own life for the show for as long as she can.

For instance, as relates to the lead character's (Sarah Chalke) dating life: "I would say that being a divorced woman with a child who lives with her parents is not a selling point," Lonow says. "I had a couple guys drive me home and want to come in, and I'm like ... 'Well, I'm going to break this to you now' ... and they kind of ran to the car to get away."

That said, Lonow does see the...

Leah Remini On ‘Family Tools’: TCA
Diane Haithman contributes to Deadline’s TV coverage. Last August, Leah Remini’s name was in the news as she was ousted from CBS daytime’s The Talk along with Holly Robinson Peete. Now she’s at ABC in the new comedy Family Tools. And at today’s TCA panel on the comedy, she was relentlessly upbeat about the change. “I do believe things happen for a reason, it’s a blessing”, she said. “I started at ABC in 1989 with Living Dolls. My mother said: ‘What part are you playing?’ Yeah”, she cracked. “But it is a blessing to be here, I love being back at ABC, I’d like to stay here and get comfortable”. Remini seems determined to deflect any negatives and called her ouster from the daytime talk program “a learning experience”. After the session, she acknowledged that in hindsight “there were a lot of things I wish I didn’t say,...

Producer Claudia Lonow On ABC’s ‘How To Live With Your Parents’: TCA
Diane Haithman contributes to Deadline’s TV coverage. One of the first questions at today’s TCA panel on the new ABC comedy How To Live With Your Parents (For The Rest Of Your Life) was: Why is the title so long? Not exactly Twitter-friendly, according to the questioner. Is there a line between long, and too long? “This. This is the line”, joked writer/executive producer Claudia Lonow, who appeared on the panel with series stars Brad Garrett, Elizabeth Perkins, Sarah Chalke and executive producer Francie Calfo (executive producer Brian Grazer did not attend). Added Lonow: “I’m sorry, I like it. Do you like it”? The questioner didn’t like it. But Lonow likes it because the show is the story of her life. Just like the lead character Polly (Chalke), Lonow moved back in with her parents after a divorce with a young daughter in tow. Her...

Emmys: Lena Dunham & Amy Poehler Score Rare Double For Female Comedy Writers
The momentum for female TV comedy writers continues. On the heels of the recent success of comedy series created/co-created by women — including Fox’s New Girl, ABC’s Suburgatory and CBS’ 2 Broke Girls – and a second consecutive upfront with multiple pickups of new series from female creators including Fox’s The Mindy Project from Mindy Kaling and ABC’s How To Live With Your Parents from Claudia Lonow, female comedy writes are now making big strides in the boy’s club known as the writing for a comedy series Emmy category. Lena Dunham, creator-star of HBO’s new comedy series Girls, and Amy Poehler, star of NBC’s Parks And Recreation, today landed comedy series writing Emmy nominations alongside Parks & Rec co-creator Michael Schur, Louie creator-star Louis C.K., and Community’s Chris McKenna. Film prodigy Dunham is nominated for the Girls pilot, while Poehler is recognized for writing ”The Debate” episode of Parks & Rec.

'How to Live with Your Parents' Creator Claudia Lonow Will Never Leave Home (Q&A)
Claudia Lonow
For producer Claudia Lonow, How To Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of your Life) is not just the title of her mid-season comedy but also her reality. The showrunner, who got her start in front of the camera as Diana Fairgate on Knots Landing, has been living with her college-bound daughter in her parents’ home for some 15 years. Come spring, that "life crisis situation"-turned-long-term reality wil prove fodder for her long-awaited ABC comedy starring Sarah Chalke as a version of her. ABC Announces Fall Schedule – Get A Peek At What’s Coming
Terry O'Quinn as Gavin Doran in "666 Park Avenue" (ABC/Andrew Eccles)

ABC‘s slate of new shows for fall has a strange flavor to it, and it’s going to be a bumpy ride. The network has about as many new shows as returning ones (if you count all the midseasons), and a good percentage of the returning offerings are a year old or less, making this look a bit like a rebuilding year.

Not only is it a rebuilding year, but it’s the year of bringing back every actor and actress who ever had a decent run on a show before. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a network’s new season slate that was so crammed with people returning from something else. If you can’t make it good, I suppose, make sure viewers recognize the faces.

It’s tricky to get a solid feel...

Light-Hearted First Trailer for How To Live With Your Parents with Scrubs’ Sarah Chalke
Sarah Chalke (Scrubs) is returning with a new programme in January next year, taking the lead in ABC’s How to Live with your Parents (For the Rest of your Life).

After Mad Love was cancelled after a short-lived season, following Chalke’s leading role in Scrubs, we heard earlier this year that she’d signed on for a new comedy which has just had its first trailer debut.

Julie Anne Robinson (Weeds, One for the Money) is directing the pilot, from a script by Claudia Lonow (Accidentally on Purpose), with Elizabeth Perkins, Brad Garrett, and Orlando Jones, and Rachel Eggleston playing Chalke’s young daughter.

“Polly (Sarah Chalke) is a single mom who’s been divorced for almost a year. The transition wasn’t easy for her, especially in this economy. So, like a lot of young people living in this new reality, she and her daughter, Natalie (Rachel Eggleston...

Sarah Chalke learns 'How to Live With Your Parents' on ABC
Single mom Polly (Sarah Chalke) needs a fresh start, and so she seeks help from her mom and dad. Whoops.

Chalke ("Scrubs," "Mad Love") plays a woman determined to be the "best single working mom in the universe" in "How to Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life)," which easily takes this season's crown for longest show title. She looks to her folks (Elizabeth Perkins and Brad Garrett) for support and a place to live, but mom and dad are pretty happy with their empty-nest life, and they don't see much upside into changing their ways for Polly and her daughter, Natalie (Rachel Eggleston).

Chalke is an expert at playing tightly wound characters, and Perkins is working some of the same self-centered vibe she did on "Weeds" (though without the nasty streak). Garrett, meanwhile, gets to work his deadpan in a single-camera comedy instead of playing to...

Primetime Pilot Panic: Which Pilots Look Good At ABC
Update Friday Am: I’ve started hearing that drama pilot Zero Hour is heating up again and looks promising for a series order. Previous Thursday 8Pm: With NBC and Fox pretty much done with their new series pickups, ABC, which presents its fall schedule right after them on Tuesday, is at bat next. Here is my last take on the ABC pilot field heading into tomorrow, when the network is expected to make its picks. On the drama side, Nashville is on the schedule. Fellow soaps Americana and Red Widow (formerly Penoza) also look strong, along with the male-skewing Last Resort, which I hear may be launched as a limited/midseason series. In the magical series face-off between 666 Park Ave and Gotham, (Beauty & The Beast has dropped out of contention), 666 seems to have the upper hand but that could change. I hear Marc Cherry’s Devious Maids is fading fast...

ABC Pilot ‘Counter Culture’ Not Going Forward Following Delta Burke’s Injury
Delta Burke at an event for What Women Want (2000)
I’ve learned that ABC’s comedy pilot Counter Culture is being shelved following last week’s injury suffered by one of its stars, Delta Burke, who fell on the set during pre-shoots two days before the multi-camera pilot’s main taping in front of studio audience. The producers had been hoping for a quick recovery that would allow the pilot to shoot and be in consideration for fall but that didn’t happen. I hear the matter is now in the hands of the insurance company, which has to sort out a host of issues surrounding the shutdown, including compensation for the cast and crew. The actors have not been formally released, allowing the network and producer Sony Pictures TV to film the pilot after the upfronts, though that doesn’t appear likely.

Written and executive produced by Stephnie Weir and executive produced by Claudia Lonow, Counter Culture was...

ABC Pilot ‘Counter Culture’ Halts Production After Star Delta Burke Injured
Delta Burke at an event for What Women Want (2000)
I’ve learned that production on ABC’s comedy pilot Counter Culture has been stopped because of an injury suffered by one of its stars, Delta Burke, who had a fall on the set yesterday. The multi-camera pilot had been doing pre-shoots, with the main taping in front of a live audience scheduled for tomorrow. Word is Burke will be sidelined for at least a week, but producers are still hoping to finish the pilot in time for fall consideration. Written and executive produced by Stephnie Weir and executive produced by Claudia Lonow, Counter Culture revolves around three sisters — Billie (Kerri Kenney), Nonie (Burke) and Joyce (Margo Martindale) — running their family diner together in West Texas who find that sibling dynamics are always getting in the way of getting the job done. The pilot, produced by Sony Pictures TV, co-stars Doris Roberts as the sisters’ aunt.

Ken Howard Joins ABC’s ‘Counter Culture’
Exclusive: Veteran actor and SAG President Ken Howard has landed one of the last regular roles this pilot season — he is set to co-star in the ABC comedy Counter Culture. The multi-camera pilot, written and executive produced by Stephnie Weir, executive produced by Claudia Lonow and produced by Sony TV, revolves around three sisters, Joyce (Margo Martindale), Nonie (Burke) and Billie (Kerri Kenney, running their family diner together in West Texas who find that sibling dynamics are always getting in the way of getting the job done. Howard, repped by Greene & Associates and manager Randy James, will play Joyce’s working-class husband Ken who is the caretaker of the diner. Ironically, Counter Culture is produced under AFTRA jurisdiction. However, as SAG president, Howard has been leading the charge for merging the two actor unions. Howard, who has been recurring on 30 Rock, is currently filming Acod opposite Catherine O’Hara is...
