DC Studios has been at the top of its game for the past few years. With a plethora of projects being lined up, there is a lot of upcoming content from the franchise, and they are certainly doing a lot of fan service in the process. While the live-action shows are well known, the animated projects from the franchise have been consistently good for a very long time, even though they do not get the same amount of mainstream love.

Creature Commandos is officially entering its writers' room phase, marking a major change from how Season 1 was developed.

Responding to a fan comment about Creature Commandos on Threads, James Gunn confirmed that Season 2 will be written by a full team, though he didn't list any official names. This stands in contrast to Season 1, where Gunn wrote all seven episodes of the animated series, kicking off his tenure in the newly-created Dcu timeline under Gunn and Peter Safran's guidance.

According to Gunn last year, Creature Commandos being the Dcu's first major release was largely a matter of convenience, stating, "I kind of wanted to do something animated and I wanted to do something with Creature Commandos for a while, and so I just started writing this thing. We didn't have a deal, we didn't have anything. I just wrote seven episodes of this TV show and was into it.

While we wait for “Crystal Lake,” fans have continued to keep Friday the 13th alive with merchandise.

It’s one and done for CBS’ comedy series Poppa’s House, starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., which is not being renewed for a second season. It was CBS’ only freshman scripted series on the bubble and the only one to get canceled. The others — dramas Matlock, NCIS: Origins and Watson and comedy Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage — all have been picked up for next season.

As Deadline reported last month, Poppa’s House had been vying for a single remaining comedy slot on CBS’ 2025-26 schedule with three half-hour pilots: the single-camera Dmv, the multi-camera Zarna, and The Neighborhood planted spinoff. It come down to Dmv, Zarna and Poppa’s House, with Dmv ultimately getting the spot with a series order. It was the end of the road for the others.

According to Deadline, the Based on a True Story actor will lead the forthcoming suspense drama series, which AGC Television is launching sales for this week at Series Mania in Lille. Also attached to the television project are The Hunger Games alum Sam Claflin, three-time Cesar winner Karin Viard, and Army of the Dead star Matthias Schweighöfer. Harley Quinn is making a big splash with a daring new Superman-inspired costume, and it’s bound to get cosplayers excited. Her twist on the iconic Man of Steel look comes as part of a special variant cover for Harley Quinn #51, set to drop on May 28, 2025. In an exclusive interview with The Direct, writer Dean Lorey hinted at what is to come for a potential Season 6. Currently, the acrobatic anti-hero of Gotham, voiced by Kaley Cuoco, has taken her business to Metropolis, the homestead of Superman himself. While fans wait to hear about renewal news for the next season, Lorey and his team are already thinking of new and exciting prospects for Harley and Poison Ivy (Lake Bell).

Fans of Harley Quinn on Max have been eagerly awaiting news about a possible Season 6, and co-creator Dean Lorey has finally given an exciting update.

Season 5 has already taken the show in a bold new direction. Instead of causing chaos in Gotham, Harley and Poison Ivy have found themselves in Metropolis, a city known for its perfection and towering skyscrapers. This shift in setting has changed the dynamic of the series, throwing the anti-heroes into unfamiliar territory.

Last year, the official start of the rebooted DC Universe came in the form of an animated series following a ragtag group of superpowered inmates with monstrous abilities forced to do dirty work for Amanda Waller. Despite the fact even the most die-hard DC readers might not have been overly familiar with the show's leads, Task Force M quickly struck a chord with fans. Now, creator and writer James Gunn has revealed some familiar - and not-so-familiar - names who failed to make the cut.

"I definitely considered Wolfpack, and, especially, Man-Bat (one of my faves)," the filmmaker told a fan on Threads. "But I knew I wanted to tell Weasel's story so it felt like too many rabid and fuzzy characters."

"I considered Vincent Velcoro but wanted to choose a 'creature' far outside the usual roster from another part of DC - so I went with Dr. Phosphorous instead. I also considered Solomon Grundy, another favorite, but was pretty set on Frankenstein," Gunn concluded.

After a rocky past, the DC universe is set to hit that soft reboot. And while this red-and-black clothed psychopath has been banished to the Elseworlds, Harley Quinn may well prove to be the best DC project of the year.

Debuting in 2019, Harley Quinn is the wild and irreverent adventure of the one and only Harley Quinn. Having broken up with the Joker, Harley sets out to discover herself through impassioned acts of mischief and mayhem. Because if she can’t be at the side of the world’s greatest villain, maybe she can be the greatest villain herself.

In Creature Commandos, Rick Flag Sr. and Eric Frankenstein squared off with Clayface, and the former seemingly killed the shapeshifter after electrocuting him.

Clayface's remains were still splattered across the room when Amanda Waller showed up and he looked very dead. However, Creature Commandos was produced before James Gunn greenlit Mike Flanagan's Clayface movie - set for release on September 11, 2026 - and that now complicates things somewhat.

There have been multiple versions of the villain and Gunn has set the record straight by suggesting Clayface managed to survive that run-in with his fellow monster.

"The reports of Clayface’s death have been greatly exaggerated," he told a fan on social media. "He is quite mushy though."

Harley Quinn returns for its fifth season on Max, continuing its unconventional take on DC’s most chaotic anti-hero. Despite DC struggling for over a decade, the unapologetic form of Dr. Harleen Quinzel has thrived, branching out three Margot Robbie movies in the DC Extended Universe and now surpassing even Batman: The Animated Series’ four-season run. Not to mention, it has also gotten a spin-off, Kite Man: Hell Yeah!

While it is devotedly followed by a strong fanbase, early reviews suggest cracks in Harley Quinn’s continued success. Once again voiced by The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco, the latest season debuted with an 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes—a notable drop from its earlier highs. While 89% seems respectable, it pales compared to the show’s perfect 100% ratings for Seasons 2 and 3. Even Season 4 saw a dip to 96%, making this consecutive decline in critical reception hard to ignore.

The new year of the TV show makes a good case for why James Gunn should keep it around for years to come as an Elseworlds project.

Developed by Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, and Dean Lorey, Harley Quinn is a Max original series focusing on Harley Quinn, the former therapist led astray by the Joker. The show sees Harley learn that the Joker truly doesn't love her and decides to find her place in the world without him - and cause a little mayhem along the way.

With Creature Commandos having wrapped up its first season, fans are asking: "What's next?" They will have to wait more than seven months until Superman hits theaters, and there aren't many more confirmed releases after that. Crafting the Dcu isn't going to be easy, but Creature Commandos is an example of how James Gunn could keep viewers' attention between big, marquee projects. While promoting the adult animated series about DC's unlikely heroic monsters, Gunn promised Dcu releases will be driven by "the writers" first.

Creature Commandos debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a perfect 100% score which, at the time, was based on just 10 reviews. Well, the first season has concluded and we now have a final score for the first Dcu TV series: a "Certified Fresh" 95%.

The Max TV series has received widespread acclaim from the start and this leaves Creature Commandos level with The Penguin (95%), another series James Gunn's DC Studios played an active role in developing.

95% also means Creature Commandos is in the same ballpark as The Dark Knight (94%), Superman: The Movie (93%), Peacemaker (93%), and The Suicide Squad (90%). DC Studios' documentary, Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, sts at 98%.

Rest in peace, Princess Ilana Rostovic and Nina Mazursky, DC Universe fans hardly knew you both. Mario Bakalova, who voiced the former heiress to the Pokolistan throne, recently unpacked the shocking Creature Commandos deaths, wishing that both could have made it out of Season 1 alive.

While speaking with Screen Rant about the Season 1 finale, Bakalova remarked that it didn't feel fair for Nina to be killed off. "It's not fair to kill Nina...but I wish both of them survived somehow, and [that] we see them again," she lamented. "Because, to be honest, I think these are my two favorite...it's difficult to say my favorite characters, but I felt very empathetic towards Nina, and I do want to know more about Ilana. I do want to know why is she like that [laughs] like,...

In the Creature Commandos season finale, as Princess Ilana goes for a morning swim, The Bride tells Nina that she's the one who must go into the water and kill the woman destined to bring about the end of the world.

However, just as Nina is about to deliver the killing blow, Weasel runs into the water to warn the Princess. The distraction is enough for Ilana to spot Nina, disarm her, and repeatedly stab the most pure-hearted member of Task Force M to death.

It's a tragic end for a great character and actor Zoë Chao has now broken her silence on Nina's shocking demise.

"I'm like, what compelling storytelling, James Gunn, does it again," she said of her reaction to learning Nina would die in the finale. "He gets you right in the heart. You often, in stories like this, lose your favorite characters sometimes, or the ones...

In the season finale of Creature Commandos, Amanda Waller has The Bride take charge of Belle Reve's "Non-Human Internment Division" as the new leader of Task Force M.

With Rick Flag Sr. busy elsewhere and Nina sadly gone, the team now looks a little different and filmmaker James Gunn broke down that roster in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes.

"Nosferata, King Shark - who we met in The Suicide Squad so it's basically that King Shark - The Bride, of course," he started. "A new and improved G.I. Robot; he's not dead after all, he's a robot."

"Khalis...we've got a mummy happening. I'm pretty interested in how we do a mummy. I've never been a big mummy guy. I'm a werewolf guy, to be honest with you. And Weasel, of course, and Phosphorus," the DC Studios boss continued, confirming the identity of each new member.

Before the first DC Universe movie is released, there is another DC project coming this year that has already proved how James Gunn's plans for the franchise are perfect. 2024 saw the first release of the Dcu's Chapter One. Now, Creature Commandos season 1 has ended after a successful 7-episode run, and the series was renewed for season 2. 2025 will be a major year for DC as the studio releases the next two projects from its new shared universe.
