Beyoncé and Jay-Z to Compete Against Each Other for an Emmy This Year
Image
Beyoncé is facing some particularly familiar competition for an Emmy this year: her own husband.

As the 2025 Emmy nominations were announced on Tuesday, both Queen Bey and Jay-Z (real name Shawn Carter) were listed as nominees in the outstanding variety special (live) category; Beyoncé for her Beyoncé Bowl halftime show for the NFL’s Christmas Day game on Netflix, and Jay as one of the executive producers for Kendrick Lamar’s Apple Music Super Bowl Lix Halftime Show.

It’s hard to track how many times a husband and wife have ever competed against one another in the same Emmy category in the past, though it’s certainly not a common occurrence.

Both Beyoncé and Lamar’s halftime shows were critically lauded and groundbreaking. Beyoncé performed the first-ever Christmas Day NFL halftime show, while Lamar broke records for the most-viewed Super Bowl halftime show of all time with over 133 million viewers.

Emmys’ Music Nominations: Father-Daughter Duo Thomas and Julia Newman Make History; Hans Zimmer Could Finally Score a Win
Image
A father-daughter composing team was nominated, Hans Zimmer could win his first Emmy, and a music supervisor was nominated for three different shows — just some of the surprises among nominations for the 2024-2025 Emmys unveiled Tuesday morning by the Television Academy.

Thomas Newman and his daughter Julia Newman were nominated for their music for Netflix’s miniseries “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” a first in Emmy history for a two-generation, same-family collaboration on a single television score. And in another musical-family story, Oscar and Emmy winner Michael Giacchino’s son Mick Giacchino was nominated for his original music for HBO’s “The Penguin.”

Zimmer, who has two Oscars and four Grammys, has never won an Emmy but could this year with his nomination in the documentary music category for NBC’s “The Americas” (shared with fellow composers Anze Rozman and Kara Talve).

Music supervisor Gabe Hilfer dominated the...

She was nominated in the outstanding directing for a variety special category for “Beyoncé Bowl.” The Netflix special landed a total of four nominations including outstanding variety special (Live). Co-directors of photography Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki and Bruno Delbonnel, prosthetics makeup artist Barrie Gower, and songwriter Nicholas Britell were among the industry heavyweights who led the Creative Arts Emmy nominations on Tuesday morning.

Alfonso Cuaron’s go-to cinematographers Delbonnel and Lubezki were recognized for their work on the AppleTV+ limited series “Disclaimer.” Britell scored a nomination for writing “We are the Ghor” (Planetary Anthem) from Disney+’s “Andor.”

Cinematographers behind the oner trend this season were also nominated. Netflix’s four-part limited series “Adolescence” uses one continuous shot per episode to create intense emotion as it follows 13-year-old schoolboy Jamie Miller, played by newcomer Owen Cooper, who is arrested on the suspicion of murdering his classmate.

'The Princess Bride' Musical Adds 'Frozen' "Let It Go" Songwriters and 'Hamilton' Producer
Image
If there is a movie that perfectly fits the term “beloved,” then The Princess Bride is pretty much it. The 1987 comical fantasy adventure by Rob Reiner has been a favorite movie of multiple generations and also has the honor of being a movie that both audiences and critics completely agreed is one of the best movies of all time. However, attempts to expand the franchise to the stage have been in theatrical development hell for almost 20 years, but have taken their first big step forward with the appointment of two very familiar and successful songwriters.

The Princess Bride stars Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, and an array of comical talent in minor roles, and, of course, Peter Falk and Fred Savage in the wraparound story. For anyone who does not know what The Princess Bride is about, the synopsis (which does not do it justice) reads:

‘The Princess Bride’ Musical: Egot Songwriters Robert Lopez & Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Director Alex Timbers And Producer Jeffrey Seller Join Stage Adaptation In Development
Image
Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony-winning songwriting duo Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, two-time Tony winning director Alex Timbers and Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller have joined the in-development musical stage adaptation of the beloved cult classic 1987 film The Princess Bride, based on the novel by William Goldman.

In development since 2019 – at least this iteration – The Princess Bride‘s then-producer Disney Theatrical Productions was teamed with Tony-winning composer David Yazbek.

Other changes since 2019: director Alex Timbers has come aboard, and Jeffrey Seller is now producing. Still with the project: book writers Bob Martin and Rick Elice and music supervisor Tom Kitt.

It’s unclear exactly when or why Disney Theatrical and Yazbek left the project. Disney Theatrical declined comment; Deadline has reached out to Seller for further information.

The arrival of the new composers, director and producer was made public in an Equity...

‘Frozen: The Hit Broadway Musical’ Is Now Streaming, Here’s How to Watch It at Home
Image
For the first time in forever, it’s now possible to watch the live stage version of “Frozen” from the comfort of your own home.

That’s because “Frozen: The Hit Broadway Musical” is now streaming on Disney+.

Samantha Barks and Laura Dawkes star as Elsa and Anna, respectively, in the taped West End production of the musical. Craig Gallivan, Jammy Kasongo, Oliver Ormson and Richard Frame also star.

The musical is, of course, based on Disney’s hit 2013 animated film, “Frozen.” Oscar winners Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez returned to write the music and lyrics for the theatrical adaptation, which ran from 2018 to 2020 on Broadway. The West End version then ran from 2021 to 2024.

Friday’s debut echoes Disney’s previous move of streaming a live stage recording of “Hamilton” in 2020. That movie went on to win an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded).

Elsewhere, “Frozen 3” is currently in...

How ‘Agatha All Along’ Songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez & Robert Lopez Built A History For “The Ballad Of The Witches’ Road”
Image
After their Oscar-winning Frozen song “Let It Go,” husband and wife team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez are used to their songs becoming part of pop culture. But with Agatha All Along, for which they wrote “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road,” things became a bit more surreal. “They ended up naming the show after our song from WandaVision, and then each episode of the show was named after lyrics from the ballad,” says Lopez. “It’s the most composer service I’ve ever seen.”

Not only did they need to come up with a song for the new series, they had to write it in eight different styles, from ancient folk to ’70s-style pop. “We wrote the ’70s version first, but it had to feel like a hit and have a love song element to it,” says Anderson-Lopez. “Then we could peel back the layers as we wrote different iterations,...

Frozen 3 Release Date Cast And Story Tease ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

“There’s a reason the movie is coming out in 2027. And that is because no one wants to rush this,” says Josh Gad and boom, that’s your headline (via People). Olaf himself just melted the silence around Frozen 3, and it’s not just some icy rehash. According to IMDb Disney’s animated giant returns on November 24, 2027, almost eight years since Frozen 2, and the long gap? It’s not laziness, it’s legacy.

Gad made it clear during The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw podcast that the team’s all in on quality over cash-grab. “They want this to be absolutely worthy of the story we set out to make in 2013… They have something incredible in store.” Now that’s how you build hype without giving anything away.

Hollywood Insider - Beyond the Spotlight: What Earning an Egot Really Says About a Star

From Audrey Hepburn to Elton John, these icons have claimed the ultimate showbiz honor — but an Egot is more than just a trophy shelf flex. The Most Exclusive Club in Entertainment Winning an Egot — the acronym for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony — represents one of the rarest and most prestigious accomplishments in the world of entertainment. With fewer than 25 stars in history having pulled it off through competitive wins, joining this club is more than collecting awards — it signals an artist’s ability to transcend mediums, reinvent themselves, and remain relevant across decades (explaining Audrey Hepburn’s spot in victory). The latest artists to join the Egot club are Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. They secured their Emmy in September 2024 for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for ‘Only Murders in the Building,’ completing their Egot...

How the ‘Agatha All Along’ Anthem Spawned 8 Versions
Image
When the married composing duo of Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe to write the Emmy-winning “WandaVision” banger “Agatha All Along,” it was predetermined that if Disney+ wanted a spinoff series focusing on Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness, the witchy wildwoman neighbor of Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany), they’d be on call. But what if you were entrusted with not merely writing a song, but coming up with eight different variations on it?

“This song was almost like the MacGuffin and the road map of the whole project,” said Anderson-Lopez of the instant earworm “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road,” the omnipresent anthem of “Agatha All Along,” the series named after their song from WandaVision. “And we knew we were going to be tasked with adding layers, having different lyrics that mean different things in different episodes, which was so exciting.” The...

Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez on how the ‘Agatha All Along’ cast ‘became a coven’ when recording ‘The Ballad of the Witches’ Road’
Image
When it came to Agatha All Along , it was the songwriters who may have cast the most tantalizing spell.

"The crew was telling us, 'I don't usually say this to songwriters, but wow, I had hairs standing up on the back of my neck,'" Robert Lopez says of the reactions to the cast recording the show's haunting song "The Ballad of the Witches' Road." As the double-egot winner's multiple award-winning partner and spouse Kristen Anderson-Lopez tells Gold Derby, "When Agatha got a spin-off, [creator Jac Schaeffer] knew instantly that she wanted it to be based around a song, and built it into the very fundamental architecture of the show, which was a huge gift to us. We would work with her for the rest of our career if we could, because she understands music and it gave us this chance to do this thing that we love." (Watch our full interview above.

Pixar's 'Coco' Director Pays Tribute to Abuelita Actress Renée Victor
Image
Lee Unkrich, the director of Disney and Pixar's Coco, has paid tribute to Abuelita actress Renée Victor following the news of her death. It was reported over the weekend that Victor, the TV and film actress best known for playing Miguel's grandmother in the 2017 animated feature film and starring as Lupita in Showtime's dark comedy-drama Weeds, among many other roles throughout her decades-long career, had died at her home in Sherman Oaks, California, on May 30 surrounded by her family after a battle with lymphoma. She was 86.

Unkrich honored Victor with a post on Instagram, sharing a side-by-side image of the actress and her fan-favorite character in Coco, who went by the name Elena Rivera, but was often addressed as Abuelita (an affectionate Spanish word for "grandma"). The caption read: "I've just learned the heartbreaking news that Renée Victor, the actress who voiced Abuelita in Coco, has passed away.

Renée Victor, Voice of Abuelita in ‘Coco,’ Dies at 86
Image
Renée Victor, the actress known for voicing Abuelita in Disney and Pixar’s Coco and starring as Lupita in Showtime’s Weeds, has died. She was 86.

Victor died at her home in Sherman Oaks on Friday night surrounded by her family after a battle with lymphoma, her representative told The Hollywood Reporter.

After being born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1938, she moved to Los Angeles in the 1960s where she grew her career as a musician. Victor worked alongside the likes of Xavier Cugat and Perez Prado, who helped popularize Latin music in the States before she and her husband began performing as the duo named “Ray & Renée” from 1963 to 1973.

She began her pivot into television in the 1970s when she hosted Pacesetters, a Ktla program that spotlighted the Chicano movement. Victor went on to be featured in an episode of Masquerade in 1984, Scarecrow and Mrs. King in 1985 and Matlock...

Lady Gaga wins Sports Emmy, placing her just a Tony Award short of Egot
Image
At Tuesday night's 2025 Sports Emmy Awards, Lady Gaga took home her first Emmy. She won for Best Music Direction of "Hold My Hand" for the Super Bowl Lix pregame show. With previous victories at the Oscars and Grammys, that places her just a Tony Award short of Egot.

This marked her fifth try at winning an Emmy following nominations for her variety specials Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour: At Madison Square Garden, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga: Cheek to Cheek Live!, and One Last Time: An Evening With Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, plus the special class program Super Bowl Li Halftime Show Starring Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga won her Academy Award for the song "Shallow" from the 2018 film A Star Is Born. She is a 14-time Grammy Award winner, with the first for The Fame and "Poker Face" in 2010 and the most recent earlier this year for...

See the Tricks ‘Agatha All Along’ Used to Walk the Witches’ Road
Image
Part of what makes “Agatha All Along” an interesting character study is picking up with Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) when she’s lost her power and seeing just what she’ll do to get it back, especially when she needs others. Specifically, she needs a group of other witches — and one familiar teen (Joe Locke) — to walk with her down the Witches’ Road, a magical, constructed path, of a sort, that offers deadly trials to those who summon it but also power and the fulfillment of desire to those that survive to its end.

Assembling a creative coven for the Disney+ miniseries wasn’t nearly so difficult for showrunner, writer, and director Jac Schaeffer as it is for her main character. “ We’re doing TV, we’re doing music, we’re doing film. We’re doing different eras. We’re doing different tones. And my true north became witches,” Schaeffer told IndieWire.

Coco 2 Officially Confirmed By Pixar - Here's Why That's A Bad Idea
Image
Remember when Pixar changed animation forever with the bold, inventive, and otherwise creative "Toy Story?" How about when the studio continued to release original movies that pushed the medium of animation forward while exploring vastly different stories and genres? Sure, there were sequels even in the earlier days, but not only did movies like "Toy Story 2" actually provide something new and different from their predecessors, but they were also balanced out by twice as many original Pixar movies.

Well, say goodbye to the good old days! Pixar, like its parent company Walt Disney Studios, is now all about chasing the mighty and elusive dollar with artistically-dubious sequels that parents will go to movie theaters to see because there is virtually nothing else to entertain kids with at the movies. We already knew Pixar was making not just another "Toy Story" sequel, but also a third "The Incredibles" movie. Now,...

A sequel to Coco is in development at Pixar Animation Studios, Disney CEO Bob Iger said Thursday.

Speaking at Disney’s Annual Shareholder Meeting, Iger announced the title, Coco 2, and said the film is still in early stages of development. The theatrical release is set for 2029.

The sequel will bring back members of the creative team from the original film, including director Lee Unkrichn and co-director Adrian Molina. Mark Nielsen Toy Story 4, Inside Out 2) will produce.

“While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart and adventure, and we can’t wait to share more soon,” Iger said.

Coco was released in 2017, and follows a 12-year-old boy who dreams of becoming a musician, and is accidentally transported to the Land of the Dead. While there he seeks out his great-great-grandfather, a deceased musician, to help him convince their...

'Joke's On Them': Lady Gaga Speaks Out on Joker 2's 'Hurtful' Razzie Win in SNL Monologue
Image
Joker: Folie à Deuxis infamous for how much it underperformed upon release last year, bombing at the box office and garnering rather harsh reviews. It was even given several Golden Raspberry Award (Razzie), including Worst Sequel along with Worst Screen Combo for Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix.

On Saturday night's episode of Saturday Night Live, Gaga appeared to pull double duty as the show's host and musical guest. In her opening monologue, she took some time to address the Joker sequel coming up short. After sarcastically remarking that people thought the film was "awesome," she then suggested she was happy about her Razzie win, explaining that this will help make her an "Egort."

“I’ve been very diligent about selecting films that would showcase my craft as a serious actor. Films such as Joker 2. Apparently, people thought it was awesome," she said. "Joaquin and I even got nominated for a Razzie,...

Frozen's Elsa is a Legendary Disney Princess, But I Think She Would've Worked as a Disney Villain More

Quick LinksElsa Had the Potential to Rival Maleficent in Disney’s FrozenHans’ Villain Twist In Disney's Frozen Felt ContrivedDisney Paid Homage to Elsa’s Villain Origins in Once Upon a Time

While I found it personally surprising that Frozen could even hold a candle to Tangled when I first saw it in theaters, ticket sales proved me wrong. There was a ton the movie could have done better. From its tacked-on feeling villain reveal to its eye-catching opening with plenty of narrative vagueness -- Frozen felt every bit as rushed as it actually was. At least in its final form. And while it's gone on to become one of Disney's biggest hits in its history of animation, I think there's a good chance they missed a creative opportunity to make it even better.

There has been some buzz in recent years about how Disney (and Pixar) have simply done away...

“I had no idea that they were being announced,” Hahn tells Gold Derby. “I just was blissfully not looking up times. I woke up to a bunch of texts, but I had a gyno appointment, and it wasn’t until I was in the car on the way that it started to all click into place.” She continues on, “I was running so late to this gyno but I had to pull over because I was flipping out. I really was taken aback and just so emotional that it was for this particular part in this particular show. I’m taking the win of just that.”

Agatha All Along is Disney+’s highly anticipated spin-off of WandaVision (2021), with Hahn returning in her role of a centuries-old,...

Awards shake-up: ‘Agatha All Along’ and Kathryn Hahn to submit in comedy categories
Image
It’s time to update your awards predictions at Gold Derby, because a major TV contender has just announced its strategy for the upcoming 2025 kudos. “Agatha All Along,” Disney Plus’ spin-off of “WandaVision” starring Kathryn Hahn as a centuries-old, sassy witch, will submit in the comedy categories at the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and next year’s Emmys, per our sister site Variety. The show was originally designed to be a limited series with a beginning, middle, and end.

Two years ago, Hahn received nominations for “WandaVision” at the Emmys and Critics Choice Awards in the limited series races for playing Agnes The Nosy Neighbor, aka Agatha Harkness. The quirky song “Agatha All Along” by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, which won the Best Music & Lyrics Emmy, told the tale of how Agatha was actually responsible for everything that had happened in the fictional town of Westview.

Hahn’s character...

Agatha All Along Composer Michael Paraskevas Talks Making The Marvel Cinematic Universe A Spookier Place
Image
Warning: Minor Spoilers for the Agatha All Along finale.By many accounts, Agatha All Along has successfully cast its spell over audiences with a two-part finale that concluded its story in epic fashion. Even before the finale, though, the series charmed viewers with a fittingly spooky aesthetic that evoked everything from classic spooky season films to beloved musicalsnotably with a major nod to Wicked in episode 7. Through it all, a musical underscore colored the story with shades of whimsy, horror, and musical theater.

For this, audiences have composers Michael Paraskevas and Christophe Beck to thank. The two composers have worked together on a number of projects prior including Hawkeye and WandaVision and brought elements of the latter to bear in Agatha All Along. The composers also worked on incorporating The Ballad of the Witches Road by Frozen 2 songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Andersen-Lopez into their orchestral score for the series.

‘Agatha All Along’ Soundtrack: All The Songs You’ll Hear Along The Witches’ Road
Image
If you still haven’t heard the earworm that is the “Ballad of the Witches’ Road,” from Marvel’s Agatha All Along count yourself lucky, because it is catchy. There are even multiple versions of the song, an original masterpiece by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez with various lyrics, which are fun to decipher. For example, Lorna Wu’s version of the ballad contains different verses than the original one sung by Agatha’s ragtag coven. Japanese Breakfast even covered a new pop version of the ballad, produced by Jack Antonoff.

Florence + the Machine’s song “Seven Devils” was used in a teaser trailer for the show. Showrunner Jac Schaeffer even made a musical nod to Dolly Parton’s song “Jolene,” hinting that Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha was the inspiration for that song in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

For all the needledrops in the witchy Marvel series — from...

A24's Animated Horror Comedy Hazbin Hotel Has A Secret Weapon – And Amazon Has Noticed
Image
The first season of A24 and Prime Video's smash-hit animated series "Hazbin Hotel" ended on February 2, 2024, and while the creative team is hard at work on season 2, the show's popularity hasn't decreased. "Hazbin Hotel" earned the largest global debut viewership for a new animated title on Prime Video, surpassing other hot commodities like "Invincible" and "The Boys Presents: Diabolical." The series doesn't boast the same recognizable IP as its contemporaries, but that hasn't stopped it from becoming a phenomenon. In the months since the season's end, convention circuits have shown that "Hazbin Hotel" has become one of the most popular shows for cosplayers to emulate, fanart floods social media feeds on the daily, but thanks to the death of the monoculture, the popularity often feels like it exists in a vacuum.

I've previously described "Hazbin Hotel" as adult animation, but too edgy for the constraints of something like "The Simpsons.

‘Agatha All Along’: Yes, More Versions of ‘The Ballad of the Witches’ Road’ Are on the Way
Image
If you’ve had “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road” stuck in your head for weeks, well, sorry, but it’s not going anywhere. In fact, it’s likely going to stick around for awhile because according to the “Agatha All Along” songwriters, there are indeed more versions on the way.

Fans first got a taste of the ballad at this year’s D23 Expo, when series star Kathryn Hahn and her coven performed it live on stage. In Episode 2 of the Marvel series, now streaming on Disney+, we got the full “sacred chant” version, as we learned it’s a spell that literally opens the door to the witches’ road.

Then in Episode 4, we got two more iterations: Lorna Wu’s version and Agatha’s coven’s cover. It’s also worth noting that there is indeed a “true crime version” early on in the season — but yes, there...

Agatha All Along Producer Reveals How 70s Rock Band Scene Came Together
Image
The following contains spoilers for Agatha All Along, Episode 4, "If I Can't Reach You/ Let My Song Teach You," now streaming on Disney+.

Agatha All Along's cast and crew are very happy with how the in-universe cover version of its iconic musical number turned out.

In a conversation with Marvel.com, Agatha executive producer Mary Livanos discussed the signature set piece of Agatha's fourth episode "If I Can't Reach You / Let My Song Teach You" and how bringing back WandaVision composers Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez was crucial to making Agatha Harkness' music scenes work. "We were so lucky to have them, and they brought their magic to the process and really gave the actors even more to hold on to, Livanos said, describing 'The Ballad of Witches' Road' song as "incredibly catchy, and anyone who ends up watching the show ends up singing it. I can't tell you how...

‘Agatha All Along’ Team on Reprising ‘The Witches Road’ as a Rock Ballad and Singing With Patti LuPone: ‘It Was So Intimidating’
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story mentions plot developments in Season 1, Episode 4 of “Agatha All Along,” currently streaming on Disney+.

Although “Agatha All Along” isn’t a musical per se, music serves as the show’s literal plot device, when the coven led by Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) sings “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road” together in Episode 2 in order to conjure the titular mystical pathway, all in the hope of making their wishes come true. The importance of “The Ballad” resonates throughout the show; each episode title comes from the song’s lyrics, and, as executive producer Mary Livanos explains to Variety, “the song will continue playing an incredibly significant role in the show.”

Case in point, Episode 4, titled “If I Can’t Reach You / Let My Song Teach You.” Once they reach the road, the coven — comprised of Agatha, Teen (Joe Locke), Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone), Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza...

Patti LuPone, Debra Jo Rupp, Kathryn Hahn, Joe Locke, Aubrey Plaza, Ali Ahn, and Sasheer Zamata in Agatha All Along (2024)
Marvel Is Already Telling You The Next Big MCU Death Is Coming
Patti LuPone, Debra Jo Rupp, Kathryn Hahn, Joe Locke, Aubrey Plaza, Ali Ahn, and Sasheer Zamata in Agatha All Along (2024)
Marvel may have already revealed the next big death in the MCU in Agatha All Along. Agatha Harkness' solo series opened with two episodes that concluded with Agatha and her cobbled-together coven venturing down the Witches' Road, setting the main narrative thread in motion. Meanwhile, many questions loom over such details as Agatha's relationship with Rio Vidal, the fate of the Scarlet Witch, and the identity of Joe Locke's Teen, whose attempts to elaborate on himself have been seemingly blocked by a spell.

The end of Agatha All Along episode 2 saw the coven open the door to the Witches' Road just as the Salem Seven descended on Agatha's Westview residence. Each of the coven's members has an express reason to tread the Witches' Road, which will grant successful travelers their greatest desire, save for Sharon Davis, whose presence was shoehorned by Agatha in her attempt to avoid Rio Vidal.

Josh Gad Has One Big Regret About Voicing Olaf In Disney's Frozen
Image
When Josh Gad joined the voice cast of Disney's animated movie "Frozen," which came out in 2013, he probably didn't think that he was about to become part of one of the biggest pop culture juggernauts in recent history. Both the original and its 2019 sequel, "Frozen II," made buckets of money at the box office, while the first movie also scored an Academy Award for best original song (thanks to the inescapable earworm "Let It Go"). Plus, Gad's character Olaf, a living snowman who wants to experience summer, became a breakout success on his own. So does Gad have any regrets about his "Frozen" experience? Yes, actually. He wishes he'd changed his voice a little more for the character.

"If I could do it all over again, I would not have lent that snowman my voice. I would've created a different voice," Gad said while participating in an interview at Fan Expo Canada,...

Trey Parker and Matt Stone Gave the Lead of ‘The Book of Mormon’ A Comedy Masterclass With This Advice
Image
What’s the secret acting trick to nailing a part in a Trey Parker and Matt Stone project? Shut the hell up and say the lines Trey Parker and Matt Stone wrote, of course.

When the South Park creators’ long-awaited comedic musical about their favorite friendly religious order, The Book of Mormon, premiered at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in 2011, it was an instant hit. Critics and audiences praised the playwriting and the performances, specifically that of Frozen star Josh Gad in the role of Elder Cunningham. Then, when Gad left the show in 2012, the Book of Mormon producers scrambled to find an actor who could handle the chaotic script from Parker and Stone while most closely imitating Gad’s immaculate performance, hiring future Miracle Workers star Jon Bass to do his best Gad impression.

Very quickly, the creative team of The Book of Mormon realized that no one could...

Agatha All Along's New Original Song Isn't Just A Gag, And It's Still Quite An Earworm
Image
Marvel Studios' first official entry into the streaming world came with "WandaVision" in 2021. It still stands as one of the better small screen chapters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, providing a compelling mystery and a meta spin on the television framework that spanned decades of sitcom tropes. In the series, Wanda Maximoff is trying to live a picture-perfect life with Vision, who was believed to have perished in "Avengers: Infinity War." Their relationship plays out across a variety of sitcom styles, ranging from "I Love Lucy" to "Modern Family," and it's in that last chapter where we learn that a powerful witch named Agatha Harkness has been manipulating Wanda.

What made the reveal especially memorable was that it played out musically in the form of a TV theme song and opening credits sequence for a faux show called "Agatha All Along," which is now a real show on Disney+. Written...

‘Agatha All Along’ Review: Kathryn Hahn Leads a Witchy Extravaganza That’s More Disney Than Marvel
Image
Marvel puts centuries-old witch Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) on the road to redemption in “Agatha All Along,” a thoroughly enjoyable if slightly revisionist Disney+ spinoff of its hit 2021 show “WandaVision.”

Wacky neighbor turned black-hearted Wanda antagonist Agatha morphs here into someone who is less evil than simply incorrigible. Smack-talking, self-involved and a natural (yet reluctant) leader, Hahn’s Agatha is a blast to watch as she plays off fellow witches almost as compelling as herself.

Hahn struts through “Agatha” with an impermeable comedic self-confidence that further demonstrates her remarkable versatility. Although Hahn excels at playing searching, insecure women, Agatha’s comedic arrogance suits her even better.

“WandaVision” and “Agatha” creator Jac Schaeffer played with fire — and air, earth and water — by casting Aubrey Plaza as Agatha’s antagonist, a witch named Rio who helps free Agatha from being cursed by Wanda into magic-free anonymity in Westview, N.J. Comic arrogance is Plaza’s bit,...

Agatha All Along EP Addresses the Challenges of Redeeming the WandaVision Villain
Image
WandaVision is getting a spinoff series with Agatha All Along, the new Disney+ series that brings back Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness. Putting the character into the spotlight may be coming with a redemption story for the villainous Agatha, but going down that road appears to have been a bit of a challenge.

Ahead of the Disney+ premiere of Agatha All Along on Sept. 18, executive producer Brad Winderbaum spoke about the series with Cbr's Kevin Polowy. Winderbaum delved into the creation of the spinoff, explaining what made Agatha deserving of her own show after her debut as an antagonist in WandaVision. Villain or not, Agatha's MCU debut made a big impact with Marvel fans, thanks in part to her iconic song that influenced the title of the spinoff series. Winderbaum confirmed that the fan response to Agatha quickly led to plans to develop a new series centered on the character.

Kathryn Hahn on the Return of Agatha and Her MCU Future: “Who Are You Calling a Side Character?”
Image
The already-beloved Kathryn Hahn exploded to a new level of stardom in 2021 with her show-stealing turn as the campy ancient witch Agatha Harkness on WandaVision — winking, cackling, and even singing her way to the most enjoyable MCU performance since Robert Downey, Jr. in the original Iron Man. She’s spent the years since taking on very different roles, including her many-layered, Emmy-nominated portrayal of a grieving mom turned advice columnist, Clare, in Hulu’s Tiny Beautiful Things.

But the whole time, she was also getting ready for her return to the MCU,...

‘Frozen 3’ Sets Thanksgiving 2027 Release Date
Image
“Frozen 3” will glide into theaters in time for Thanksgiving… of 2027.

Disney has added the third Arendelle-set animated adventure to the film release calendar on Nov. 24, 2027. Both of the first two “Frozen” movies were also released around Turkey Day, on their way to becoming back-to-back $1 billion blockbusters.

The studio also planted a new Pixar movie, “Hoppers,” on the schedule for March 6, 2026. Jon Hamm and Bobby Moynihan will lead the voice cast of “Hoppers,” a body-swap comedy about a young girl who uses technology to understand the inner thoughts of animals.

The original “Frozen” became a massive sensation in 2013, generating nearly $1.3 billion worldwide and winning a slew of awards, including two Oscars. The 2019 sequel was even more commercially successful with $1.45 billion and, until recently, stood as the highest-grossing animated film in history. The movies about the adventures of royal sisters Anna and Elsa (voiced by Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel) produced...
