LONDON -- Kate Fulton on Friday resigned as director general of industry body British Music Rights, saying she was unable to devote sufficient time to the job. British Music Rights (BMR) promotes the interests of composers, songwriters and publishers in areas including policymaking, intellectual rights and compensation. It represents the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters, the Music Publishers Assn., the Performing Rights Society and the Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society. Fulton is a working mother who took the job on a 4-day-a-week basis in September, taking over from Frances Lowe, who worked full time. "I have really enjoyed my time with the organization but find that currently I am unable to dedicate enough time to working delivering the community's key messages," Fulton said. BMR chairman Alistair Hunter said he was extremely disappointed by Fulton's resignation. "However, British Music Rights has a strong team who will continue to carry the creator community messages forward," he added. "The board is currently considering options for a successor." General manager Henri Yoxall will be acting director general until the post is filled, Hunter said.
