Why Gossip Girl Recast Blair Waldorf's Mother, Eleanor, After The Pilot Episode
Image
Although Gossip Girls pilot episode does a pretty good job of introducing its main characters and their key relationships, producers werent convinced about the actress portraying Blairs mother. Compared to the rest of the best romance teen shows, Gossip Girls first episode accurately sets up some of its most popular and lasting dynamics; mainly, between the teenagers, but also those with their parents. Workaholic fashion designer Eleanor Waldworfs estranged relationship with her daughter is key to Blair Waldorfs popular character arc in Gossip Girl, but the first actress cast in the role offered a very different Eleanor.

Florencia Lozano was originally cast to play Eleanor Waldorf but was quickly replaced by Margaret Colin who went on to play the character for Gossip Girls six seasons. Though both were tapped for the same character, a sizable gap separated them, with Colin being 12 years older than Colin. Notably, the young actress version...

Gossip Girl’s Huge Recast of 1 Character is Something Only The Most Eagle-eyed Fans Would’ve Noticed
Image
During the late 2000s and early 2010s, Gossip Girl was a staple on every teenager’s television set at home and its success speaks through fans who still love binging the show regularly. The show particularly resonated with teenagers as it portrayed the intricacies of navigating through high school drama, young love, and friendships.

Leighton Meester and Blake Lively as Blair and Serena in Gossip Girl | Credits: The CW

While Blake Lively and Leighton Meester’s Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf were the biggest pieces of the show’s entire plot, there was another character that captured the hearts of its fanbase from seasons one through six, Eleanor Waldorf. While Eleanor sprung up into the limelight due to Margaret Colin’s acting excellence, she wasn’t the first one to be cast for the role.

Florencia Lozano was initially cast as Eleanor Waldorf before Margaret Colin took over...

One Life To Live Spoilers – AMC Fans Are Excited

Fans of soap operas are thrilled about the news surrounding Lifetime’s potential revival of All My Children; but what about other canceled favorites like One Life To Live and Another World? Keep reading to discover the possibilities of these shows returning to our screens.

The idea of characters coming back from the dead is a hallmark of soap operas, making the current discussions about All My Children’s revival feel especially appropriate.

The show, along with One Life To Live, was axed in 2011 to make way for an afternoon talk show and a cooking series, neither of which enjoyed much success.

10 TV Shows That Recast A Major Character After The Pilot
Image
Unaired pilots have led to important recasts that vastly improve iconic TV characters. Replacements like Emilia Clarke as Daenerys redefine the portrayal of iconic roles. Talented actors like Alyson Hannigan were the second choice to bring beloved characters like Willow to life.

Several major TV shows featured a certain actor in the pilot episode that was recast for the rest of the series. This may have been an unaired pilot shown to network executives before the show officially aired many TV show spinoffs that never aired met their end at this stage. An early pilot like this allows producers to see what they have so far and decide if the series is worth pursuing, or if some changes need to be made before filming the rest of it such as finding an actor more suited to the character.

Some TV recasts were even better than the actor they replaced, whether...

‘Keep Breathing’: Melissa Barrera Shares Her Real Reactions in Liv’s Survival Story
Image
Melissa Barrera braves the elements in Keep Breathing, a gripping tale of survival coming to Netflix July 28. The In the Heights star shows herself in a brand new light in the rugged six-episode story, most of which she acted in alone. In Keep Breathing, Barrera plays New York lawyer Liv, a workaholic who doesn’t let anyone in. After her private plane crashes in the remote Canadian frontier, she finds herself as the lone survivor. Liv must battle both an unforgiving wilderness and past personal demons to stay alive in the survival thriller. Barrera had her work cut out for her in this show. As if plunging into freezing cold water and exerting her body to the point of exhaustion weren’t daunting enough, she had to deliver a compelling emotional performance to boot. Here, Barrera breaks down the work put into Keep Breathing and why ...

‘Keep Breathing’ Review: Melissa Barrera Can’t Save Netflix’s Sketchy Survival Drama
Image
Click here to read the full article.

For TV critics, this week’s theme is less-buzzy new versions of some of the buzziest shows of the past year. It will be a fun game to see how many reviews discuss Peacock’s The Resort without mentioning HBO’s The White Lotus in the first paragraph (when the more apt comparison is actually Apple TV+’s Acapulco) or Amazon’s Paper Girls without mentioning Netflix’s Stranger Things (when the more apt comparison is actually Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club).

The answer may be close to “zero.” (I won’t even try when it comes to Paper Girls.)

I have at least successfully avoided mentioning Showtime’s Yellowjackets until several sentences into my review of Netflix’s Keep Breathing, a so-called limited series that is unquestionably most easily described as a one-woman version of Yellowjackets without any of the sensationalistic — or “fun,...

Netflix’s ‘Keep Breathing’ Forces Melissa Barrera to Confront the Wild, and Past Pain: TV Review
Image
Say this much about “Keep Breathing”: It’s admirably immune to streaming-era bloat.

Could its story, of a woman confronting the pain of her past while trying to stay alive after a plane crash, have been told in a ninety-minute film? Well, sure. But in six episodes that hew pretty close to the half-hour mark, the series makes its points, underlines them a couple of times, and then moves on.

Here, Melissa Barrera plays Liv, who is clinging to life (get it?). Liv had the misfortune to wheedle her way into a seat on a small plane headed into a remote area of Canada, which — after an astoundingly unconvincing crash that indicates just how little Netflix is spending on its non-marquee content — becomes her new home. Like a grown-up, corporate-lawyer version of the protagonist of the YA classic novel “Hatchet,” Liv is surprisingly adept at delving into her own...

Canadian Wilderness Survival Series 'Keep Breathing' Official Trailer
Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy in Breathe (2017)
"There's nobody coming for you... because nobody cares about you." Ouch. Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a new survival series titled Keep Breathing, formerly known as simply Breathe. When a small plane crashes in the middle of the Canadian wilderness, a lone survivor must battle the elements — and her personal demons— to stay alive. The series stars Melissa Barrera as Liv, a New York lawyer who has to figure out how to survive. I'm not sure if this is based on a true story, it doesn't mention it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's inspired by a true story about someone surviving. It was filmed up in the forests of British Columbia, and in Vancouver. In addition to Barrera, the cast includes Joselyn Picard, Jeff Wilbusch, Juan Pablo Espinosa, Austin Stowell, and Florencia Lozano. Ooh this series looks like it might be good, not only the survival...

Wagner Moura in Narcos (2015)
‘Narcos’ Review: Season 2 Finds Its Path To the Future — And Its Real Star
Wagner Moura in Narcos (2015)
Here’s a theory: For any TV creators who get more than a season to prove themselves, it’s Season 2 where they really figure out what kind of show they’re making. And with “Narcos,” we see some pretty clear proof of that.

Season 1 of Netflix’s fact-based drama — about how cocaine created criminal empires in Colombia and beyond — was jam-packed with over 15 years of drug cartel history, and the result, unfortunately, was not consistently engaging for anyone other than the most passionate fans of the subject matter. But from the first moments of Season 2, the Netflix series shows new focus. Thanks to a much narrower scope — the 18-month hunt for Pablo Escobar, following his escape from La Catedral prison — characters are allowed to breathe more. The power struggles have real weight. And the potential for seasons to come becomes clear.
