The Television Academy’s inaugural Televerse festival, a celebration of TV past and present that will roughly coincide with the start of the final round of Emmys voting, has followed its initial announcement of programming — which included master classes taught by Henry Winkler and Beau Willimon, a 20th anniversary reunion of the cast and creators of Bones and this year’s TV Academy Hall of Fame induction ceremony — with an additional slate of programming.

The event, which will be open to TV Academy members and non-members, and will run Aug. 14-16 at the Jw Marriott at L.A. Live, will now also include a “State of the Industry” talk with TV Academy president Cris Abrego; a 25th anniversary reunion of the creators and stars of Queer As Folk; the premiere of the USA Network’s new series The Rainmaker, adapted from the John Grisham novel; and more.

Joining the previously programmed Bones 20th-anniversary panel and Henry Winkler's acting class, the cast of Queer as Folk will reunite to celebrate the groundbreaking series' 25th anniversary. Creators Daniel Lipman and Ron Cowen will be joined on stage by cast members Peter Paige, Gale Harold, Scott Lowell, Sharon Gless, Michelle Clunie, and Thea Gill for a look back.

Additionally, USA Network will be bringing its upcoming legal drama The Rainmaker for a special advanced premiere screening. After the episode, executive producer Michael Seitzman will participate in a conversation along with stars Milo Callaghan, Lana Parrilla, Madison Iseman, and P.J. Byrne.

To close out a lively and, at times, heartfelt Q&a featuring a handful of actors and the key creative team responsible for Showtime’s Queer as Folk, moderator Frank DeCaro asked the panelists the night’s most profound question timed to the milestone anniversary: “Looking back over the last 25 years, what influence do you think Queer As Folk had on television and the world?”

A new Pride festival celebrating LGBTQ representation in entertainment is coming to Los Angeles, just in time for the 25th anniversary of Queer as Folk.

Cast members of the Showtime series will reunite for the first ever Pride Live! Hollywood, running June 11-29, also featuring a Golden Girls 40th birthday and a tribute to the late Norman Lear, among other events at venues around Hollywood.

“It’s more important than ever that we celebrate the fabulous light of programs like Queer as Folk, not to mention Pride Live! Hollywood’s other offerings,” said Scott Lowell, who played Ted Schmidt in the 2000-’05 series. “Especially during Pride Month in LA at a festival that not only acknowledges the past but shows us the path forward.”

Lowell will reunite with co-stars Hal Sparks, Robert Gant, Michelle Clunie, Thea Gill, Peter Paige and Sharon Gless, as well as creators Ron Cowen and Daniel Lipman for the festival.

The inaugural Pride Live! Hollywood festival has added several events to its lineup.

A number of screenings have joined the schedule, including The Big Johnson, about queer punk legend Dean Johnson, with nightlife impresario Mario Diaz and filmmaker Lola Rocknrolla discussing the film and its subject afterward.

Additionally, organizers have added screenings of Happy Clothes: A Film About Patricia Field, focusing on the Sex and the City costume designer; the comedy Things Like This, with writer-director and star Max Talisman in conversation to follow. In addition, the Los Angeles premiere of the U.K. feature Unicorns, starring Ben Hardy and Jason Patel, will be preceded by Remi Gabriel’s short Barbie Boy.

And two free-admission events will take place at Amoeba Music: Power-pop band L.A. Exes will perform and sign their album Get Some at Amoeba Music, and a Pride weekend kickoff event will feature Long Beach-based DJs wonderfulbryan and speakandspel spinning LGBT favorites.

In the last couple of decades, LGBTQ+ characters have become more and more common on television, though this history goes further back than you might think. As Shayna Maci Warner writes in "The Rainbow Age of Television," The first "expressly named gay character" appeared on the first episode of "N.Y.P.D." in 1967. Meanwhile, the first lesbian couple appeared on "The Bold Ones: The New Doctors" in 1972, though the first lesbian kiss on TV didn't occur until 1991 in an episode of "L.A. Law."

A new Los Angeles-based event will celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride and pop-culture milestones next month.

The producers of L.A’s Infinity Festival, which celebrates the intersection of technology and entertainment, have teamed up with The Hollywood Partnership and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to present Pride Live! Hollywood, a monthlong celebration of “LGBTQ+ creativity in media and entertainment.”

The lineup will feature a tribute to Norman Lear’s pioneering television work, anniversary celebrations of TV series The Golden Girls and Queer as Folk, documentary premieres, film screenings, panels, parties, interactive events and presentations of disco-era films, along with participation by stars and creatives. Events will take place at venues in and around Los Angeles, including the W Hollywood, the Montalbán Theater, LA Explained, Emerson College, Amoeba Music, the Aster and Lemon Grove, Whisky Hotel Hollywood, NeueHouse Hollywood and more.

Organizers explained that with more than 150,000 people attending the annual L.

Starzplay has acquired Stephen Dunn’s reimagining of groundbreaking British series “Queer as Folk” for a slew of territories including the U.K., several continental European countries, and Latin America.

The Peacock-produced reboot of the Russell T. Davies series from the ’90s about three clubgoing men in Manchester’s gay village, has been acquired by the streaming service for Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Latin America, Luxembourg, Spain, Netherlands, the Nordics and the U.K.

The eight-episode show will premiere in the U.K. on July 1, with other local premieres rolling out exclusively in the other territories on July 31. Two new episodes will be available each week.

Peacock placed a straight-to-series order on Thursday for a new series that will focus on a diverse group of friends in New Orleans.

Their lives are changed dramatically in the aftermath of a tragedy.

Stephen Dunn (Little America) is on board as creator, writer, and executive producer.

What's more, Dunn will also direct several episodes of the new series.

As for Davies, he will be heavily involved in the project, taking an Executive Producer credit.

Channel 4 aired the original Queer as Folk in the UK. It lasted 10 episodes and was subsequently remade for U.S. audiences on Showtime.

It had a five-year run from 2000-2005, concluding after five seasons.

The Peacock version is described as a vibrant reimagining of the groundbreaking British series created by Russell T. Davies, exploring a diverse group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy.

Davis will executive produce, and Stephen Dunn will create and write the series. Dunn will also direct the pilot episode. The series is from UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. Additional executive producers include Lee Eisenberg, Emily Brecht, Nicola Shindler and Richard Halliwell on behalf of Nent Studios UK, which distributes the format.

The network announced a straight-to-series order of the reboot, which is described as a modern take on the original UK series that will chronicle the lives of a diverse group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy. Variety exclusively reported that a “Queer as Folk” reboot was in the works at Bravo back in 2018, with the project eventually moving over to Peacock.

“’Queer as Folk’ was more than just a show, it was a ground-breaking and necessary voice for so many people. Stephen’s new version for Peacock arrives at yet another pivotal moment in our culture,” said Lisa Katz, president, scripted content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, in a statement.

The gang from Queer as Folk is getting together again later today for an online reunion set to benefit Lgbtq community centers impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Scott Lowell, Sharon Gless, Peter Paige, Michelle Clunie, Hal Sparks, Randy Harrison and Robert Gant were initially announced to appear in the event. Members of the writing staff, guest stars from the show's run, and others may also appear on the reunion, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Written and directed by Dunn, the new version, which will feature new characters in a new setting, is described as a modern take on the original British series that centers on a group of club-going friends who find support in the gay community following a tragedy.

Dunn and Davies executive produce with Nicola Shindler of Red Productions, who executive produced the original show, along with Lee Eisenberg of Quantity Entertainment. Since he first appeared as medical student John Carter in the Emergency Room of County General Hospital, Ill., Noah Wyle has specialised in playing a particular type of brainy hero. During his record-breaking tenure in ER, Wyle was notably the first to portray a fictional version of Steve Jobs in biopic Pirates Of Silicon Valley, a part that earned him an invitation from Mr Jobs to play a prank on the audience at the 1999 Macworld Expo.

Among a host of stage and screen roles, Wyle also played the small but memorable role of Dr Monitoff, a science teacher with an interest in parallel universes in 2001's Donnie Darko, followed in 2004 with the part of Flynn Carsen, perpetual student-turned-Indiana-Jones-type in three The Librarian television movies.

According to Gless, who talked to TheBacklot last week, the answer is yes.

After a tumultuous season interrupted by heartbreak, frustrations and well, interruptions, we enter a seven-episode stretch of new "Bones" that will take us to that potentially game-changing finale.

Dare we think of what that might mean? Not yet. There are two way too disgusting things that demand our attention first: feet (gross in any context) and a body farm.

The closest thing to Disneyland for Brennan (Emily Deschanel), body farms are real facilities, run by universities, in which human remains are studied in various states of decomposition. The fact that this is our first time hearing of them six seasons is another shining example of the kind of restraint our "Bones" crew possesses. 

Romance, pregnancies and interpersonal issues within the Jeffersonian gang are almost completely sidelined tonight, so it's going to be a squint-heavy recap. Onward!

Lets face it, as television viewers we grow attached to the gay characters that resonate with us on the small screen, and with the actors that bring life to these roles. We also find ourselves growing fond of out-and-proud actors that have opted to play it straight thats why its called acting, people and vice versa.

So when their shows are cancelled or taken off the air before they wear out their welcome (whatever, I still miss Sex and the City on Sunday nights, ok?), it can be a little bit difficult to see them slide into other TV roles easier than Lindsay Lohan checking into another rehab (Im rootin for you, girl).

Alas, sometimes that isnt always the case, which might have you asking yourself, Where are they now? In some cases for these actors, it could be taken as a query of, Where did they disappear to?

But for curiosity's (and manner's) sake,...

We asked you which gay or bisexual TV characters you think are the best, and you told us – with tens of thousands of votes cast.

Now we have the results.

But first, a few interesting statistics.

We have quite a few familiar faces – characters who made our last poll of the best gay and bisexual characters two and a half years ago – and a few missing ones, namely Vince D’Angelo (from Will & Grace), George Huang (from Law & Order: Svu), and Waylon Smithers (from The Simpsons), all of whom didn’t even make the top 50 this time around.

Meanwhile, we also have many new faces – from shows that have debuted since our last poll.

Every single character except two comes from a show that ran in the 00s (although some shows, like Will & Grace, did debut in the late 90s). The exceptions? Jodie Dallas, played by Billy Crystal, on Soap...
