Lightning McQueen and friends are returning to Radiator Springs in the next entry in the Carsfranchise, but it won't be in theaters.

Cars has become one of Disney and Pixar's biggest brands, with the franchise making $10 billion in merchandise sales within its first five years. It's already spawned multiple films, spinoffs, and an entire themed area in California Adventure with Piston Peak National Park coming to Walt Disney World in the future, and its next venture will reintroduce the soon-to-be 20-year-old franchise to a new generation.

Variety reports that Disney Junior and Disney Television Animation are developing Cars: Lightning Racers in association with Pixar for a 2027 premiere date. Disney Jr., which currently dominates preschool television with the top three shows on streaming for Kids 2-5 — Bluey, Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse — unveiled a slate of new series, specials, casting news, and premiere dates today.

The announcements were made by Ayo Davis, president, Disney Branded Television, at the “Disney Jr. Let’s Play!” fan celebration at Disney California Adventure Park, which will also be taking place at Downtown Disney District in Anaheim, California, throughout the weekend.

Disney Jr. today unveiled its upcoming slate, which includes the greenlight of two new series, Cars: Lightning Racers, inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Oscar-winning Cars films, with the films’ original cast returning to reprise their roles, and Marvel’s Avengers: Mightiest Friends, the first-ever preschool Avengers series.

Additionally, the network handed an early two-season renewal to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+ (seasons 2 and 3). The series — a revival of the 2000s animated staple — debuted July 22 on Disney+ as the biggest original Disney Jr. launch on the platform to date and was also the #1 streaming series in average audience for Kids 2-5 in its premiere week, per Nielsen.

“Cars: Lightning Racers,” which sees Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy reprise their roles from the beloved movie alongside Tony Shalhoub, Cheech Marin, Bob Peterson, John Ratzenberger, Leah Lewis, Yuri Lowenthal and Sheryl Lee Ralph, and “Marvel’s Avengers: Mightiest Friends,” which evolved from “Marvel’s Iron Man and his Awesome Friends,” will both debut in 2027 on Disney Jr. and Disney+.

The new series were unveiled Friday as part of the Disney Jr. “Let’s Play” event, alongside a two-season renewal for “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+” following a successful first season, with Season 2 and 3 slated for a 2027 and 2028 release, respectively. “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+” joins returning series “SuperKitties,” which will debut its third season on Sept. 22 on Disney Jr. and Oct. 1 on Disney+.

Another original Persona 4 voice actor has confirmed that she will not be part of the rumored Persona 4 remake. Yesterday, Yuri Lowenthal, who played Yosuke in the original game, confirmed he was not part of the unannounced P4 remake project, despite reportedly "begging" to be a part of it. The post has since been removed, but now, with another original voice actor also confirming she isn't a part of the supposed remake, the evidence is continuing to grow for a potential P4 remake announcement soon.

According to a Bluesky post from Erin Fitzgerald, she will not be reprising her role as Chie in the alleged Persona 4 remake (via Vgc). Her post went on to say she is grateful to have played Chie in several games, writing: "I am blessed to have recorded as many Persona 4 games as I did playing her." A remake of P4 has not been confirmed by Atlus or other official sources yet.

Earlier this year, the website domains for the P4 remake were registered, and singer Shihoko Hirata, who was a vocalist for the original game, revealed she was recording for an unannounced game. Martella has been acting for more than 20 years now, getting his start in projects such as Cracking Up and Stacked before also playing Greg Wuliger in Everybody Hates Chris. Martella has been voicing Phineas on the hit TV series for nearly 20 years now after first entering the booth in 2007, starring alongside other show veterans such as Dan Povenmire and Ashley Tisdale. 2008-2012 was a great yet frustrating era to be a fan of Marvel cartoons. That brief period of time saw the premiere of some of the very best television that's ever adapted Marvel Comics: "The Spectacular Spider-Man," "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes," and "Wolverine and the X-Men." With the game recently debuting on PC, the series' leading man Yuri Lowenthal provided a small, but promising update for his character Peter Parker, who, after the events of his most recent adventure, decided to take a break from being Spider-Man, leaving the duties of being New York City's primary webslinger to Miles Morales. However, while his protégé is expected to take on more of a leading role in the next entry, Lowenthal teases that Peter Parker will still be part of the next main game and it sounds like he'll have a significant role to play.

MultiCon is putting the final touches on its schedule, which will benefit recovery from the Los Angeles wildfires when it rolls into the Preserve LA on Saturday.

The panels (listed in full below), include a conversation with Kevin Smith, Rob Liefeld and Robert Kirkman, while newly announced guests include All That and Good Burger star Kel Mitchell and Vivien Lyra Blair, known for playing the young Leia in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

They join guests that include David Dastmalchian, Seth Green, Sean Gunn and others.

Liefeld will also sign art from his property Young Blood that will only be available at the convention. There are no less than ten animated series dedicated to the superhero Spider-Man, along with two animated films, and that doesn’t count the appearances that the hero has made in crossover shows and other characters’ shows. With the release of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, we wanted to look back on what we think are the best animated versions of the superhero.

The upcoming month will see the return of some of HBO’s brilliant original satirical dark comedy-drama anthology series, The White Lotus, as well as the streaming release of Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh‘s beautiful romantic drama film We Live in Time. Just like every month, Max is ready to overload you with great content. So, we’re here to tell you about the 5 new movies and TV shows coming to Max in February 2025.

We Live in Time (February 7) Credit – A24

We Live in Time is a romantic comedy-drama film directed by John Crowley from a screenplay by Nick Payne. The 2024 film follows the relationship of a young couple over the course of a decade as they go through the ups and downs of life together while learning and growing with each other.

A number of comic convention regulars are banding together to help victims of the Los Angeles wildfires.

On Feb. 22, names such as Kevin Smith, David Dastmalchian and Seth Green will assemble at MultiCon, taking place at The Preserve LA. There will be the normal trappings of a comic convention, including panels and autograph signings, but with a twist: fans can donate money to get autographs and selfies with talent.

Others attending include Rob Liefeld, Jackie Tohn, Daniel Logan, Yuri Lowenthal, Tara Platt, Isaac Robinson Smith, Monique Coleman and Kaycee Stroh. More will be announced as the date gets near.

Proceeds benefit United Way of Greater Los Angeles.

Even though it’s just been a month since the release, it’s clear that Marvel Rivals is a game that’s here to stay for years. Developer NetEase Games has recently dropped the highly anticipated Season 1 update into the hero-shooter, and gamers are absolutely loving every second of it.

Since Marvel Rivals is a live-service game, NetEase can make various balance changes to ensure that characters don’t wreak havoc in matches. For example, developers have nerfed Hawkeye and Hela as they were simply too strong. However, now gamers believe that NetEase needs to take a look at Moon Knight and nerf his ultimate.

In celebration of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 coming to the PC platform, NetEase Games’ developers thought it was the perfect time to include the Advanced Suit 2.0 as a cosmetic item for Spider-Man. Marvel Rivals has been growing steadily, and aside from the impressive combat, the players are interested in the cosmetics.

The Mobile Suit Gundam franchise has existed for nearly 50 years and in that time, it's had several entries and spinoffs. While most of the anime are set in the Universal Century timeline, others are in their own continuities. One such series is now getting a new tie-in project, but it's not the only one of these shows that should receive this type of continuation.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury is now getting a spinoff manga in an alternate universe, capitalizing on the success of that show. While this makes sense, there are other works which are just as deserving of this treatment. This could take the form of sequels or alternate takes, all of which would expand upon previously seen Gundam anime.

Besides the more powerful Gundam in the franchise, there are several mobile suits that are used as grunts and foot soldiers in these mecha anime.

It’s been more than a year since the release of Spider-Man 2, the third installment of Playstation and Insomniac's video game series following Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, provided what many would say is the best adaptation of Venom outside of the comics (sorry Tom Hardy). Hot Toys is helping to commemorate the gooey symbiote, who uses Harry Osborn (Graham Phillips) instead of Eddie Brock as a host in an unconventional story turn, by releasing a new Venom figure based on his appearance in the hit PS5 video game, showing him achieving full symbiosis by using his body as an array of weapons. Hot Toys even feature figures for Peter Parker (Yuri Lowenthal) and Miles Morales (Nadji Jeter) in the first images for Venom, showing him facing off against his two arch nemesis.

This article touches on only a few reasons why each fandom described is toxic, and it is not a critique of any anime mentioned.

A "fandom" is a term used for a sizable collective of people who've fallen in love with the same piece of media, and getting involved in one is an excellent way for fans to gather and share ideas as well as gush about their favorite characters. It's an experience that can give many a sense of camaraderie and belonging. A good deal of mainstream anime — like Naruto, One Piece, and Dragon Ball—can raise communities large enough to overflow a city. But, unfortunately, fandom toxicity becomes an inevitable occurrence because of the sheer number of people partaking in discussions centered on a subject of passion.

Fans can be passionate; it's as simple as that. And there is nothing wrong with loving a work of fiction so ardently.

Voice acting is a tough job to nail in the anime industry, already soured by the less-than-generous pay the actors get. Only a selected few English voice actors have truly made a name for themselves in this industry and Aleks Le is one of them. Bagging roles such as Sung Jinwoo from Solo Leveling and Zenitsu Agatsuma from Demon Slayer have gained him fame and popularity. His chaotic humor has also given some traction in the anime community.

The voice actor gets honest about how challenging yet rewarding it is to have such diverse roles in his hands. Aleks Le isn’t one to stick to a single archetype in voice acting but diversity comes with its own obstacles. Voicing Jinwoo and Zenitsu are as different as they get.

Every anime fan loves a great protagonist. However, there are instances where the antagonist is as compelling if not more compelling than the heroes. Multiple series hinge upon the actions of their villains and the sprawling narratives that come with the dynamics of right and wrong.

The interest level for a villain may differ, dependent on the villain's morals, ethics or, most times, their backstory. When the viewer is able to sympathize with the villain or the reasons behind their actions, they can become a great villain in the eyes of many. Fans love a good hero, but some of these villains give just a bit more of a reason to keep the viewer engaged.

The original Watchmen graphic novel was first published monthly through 1986 and 1987, before being compiled into a single volume in 1987. The comic was written by famed author Alan Moore, illustrated by artist Dave Gibbons and published by DC Comics. In the years since, Watchmen has had three major adaptations – a theatrical live action film directed by Zack Snyder in 2009, an HBO miniseries set in the universe of the comic in 2019, and most recently, an animated two-part film released this year.

This newest adaptation was directed by Brandon Vietti and produced by Warner Brothers. Isekai's rise to dominance has been the most noticeable anime trend of the last decade. Not an anime season goes past without a new isekai series launching, be it a new original show or a sequel to an existing one. The same is true for isekai anime movies, as they have become increasingly common since the early 2000s, with several new isekai movies arriving at the box office every year.

The downside of this isekai ubiquity is that many good movies get overshadowed by projects with bigger marketing budgets, leading to them getting lost in the shuffle.
