Put Michael Myers in a Trump Mask and You’ve Got ‘President Evil,’ the Wacked-Out Slasher Movie of Our Time
Image
All movies are political, especially horror, as Terrifier's Damien Leone recently found out the hard way. The sociopolitical message of Art the Clown might not be very overt, but for other horror films, it's right out in the open. Such is the case for a 2018 horror comedy cleverly titled President Evil. This low-budget film, co-written and directed by Richard Lowry, is part loving tribute to John Carpenter's Halloween, and part highly political satire, as its Michael Myers-esque killer stalks his minority victims while wearing a Donald Trump mask and carrying a butcher's knife with the American flag painted on the blade. President Evil will make you smile if you're a big Halloween fan. It'll also make you laugh, as well as angry, no matter which side of the political aisle you sit on. And that's the point.

‘After the Pandemic’ Review
Image
Stars: Eve James, Kannon Smith, Lelyn Mac | Written and Directed by Richard Lowry

Until the Scott Adkins actioner Seized I had never heard of writer/director Richard Lowry – who penned the 2020 related film – but I enjoyed that film so much that when I saw he’d not only written After the Pandemic but also directed, I had to check it out… Yeah, judging by this film however, it turns out Seized’s success may have been more down to veteran director Isaac Fiorentine rather than Lowry’s script.

The well-timed After the Pandemic follows Ellie (Eve James) a survivor of a global pandemic who spends her days roaming the empty streets, exploring houses foraging for food and keeping one step ahead of infected and the strange cadre of hazmat-suit wearing stalkers that are searching for survivors. During one confrontation with the stalkers, Ellie is saved by Quinn (Kannon Smith) and the two soon bond,...

‘Seized’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Scott Adkins, Mario Van Peebles, Karlee Perez, Steven Elder, Matthew Garbacz | Written by Richard Lowry | Directed by Isaac Florentine

Let’s get this out of the way first… Seized contains three things I love in my action movies 1) Scott Adkins kicking, punching and shooting his way through the film; 2) Isaac Florentine in the directors chair; and 3) An unexpectedly awesome turn from Mario Van Peebles!

If I have said it once I have said it a million times! I am a sucker for a Scott Adkins movie. I mean how the hell could you not be? He is a super awesome Brit who is super awesome at the punches and kicks. The good thing is you rarely have to wait long for your next fix because Adkins is a workhorse and likes to keep himself busy. Add in the fact this is an Issac Florentine movie and these guys have...

A top Trump of evil

Sad!

It was more Fake News from the liberals.

Apocalypse Rising tells that story of Mia, an extrasensory teenage girl living on the planet Rathe. A planet which has the technology of today, with the dress sense of the Roman Empire. Horror Highlights: Domhnall Gleeson Reads from The Little Stranger, Apocalypse Rising on VOD and DVD, Chris Whitworth’s Pumpkin Patch Panic
Ahead of the release of The Little Stranger in theaters this Friday, one of the film's stars, Domhnall Gleeson, reads from the novel by the same name, and we have the clip to share with our readers at the top of today's Horror Highlights. Also: VOD and DVD release details for Apocalypse Rising and news on the first book in Chris Whitworth's new children's horror novel series, Frightmares.

Domhnall Gleeson Reads from The Little Stranger: "The Little Stranger tells the story of Dr. Faraday, the son of a housemaid, who has built a life of quiet respectability as a country doctor. During the long hot summer of 1948, he is called to a patient at Hundreds Hall, where his mother once worked. The Hall has been home to the Ayres family for more than two centuries. But it is now in decline and its inhabitants - mother, son, and...

They’re Kids! They’re Police! They’re Kid’s Police!
When happens when you take a gritty, hard boiled crime story and fill it with children? You get the oddly amusing action flick “Kid’s Police.” The full-length motion picture is based on the Japanese television program of the same name. Instead of adult actors, all of the roles are played by kids. Pretty original, huh? Eh, not really. Director Richard Lowry covered similar territory with his forgotten 1988 buddy cop flick “Hawk Jones.” Although the film is doomed to languish in obscurity, it is worth mentioning that “Kid’s Police” isn’t the first to employ this particular cinematic gimmick. By the way — if you haven’t seen “Hawk Jones,” I strongly recommend tracking down a copy as soon as possible. The big screen adaptation of “Kid’s Police” is set to arrive in Japan next March. While you’re waiting for that day to get here, why not take...

Forgotten Action Cinema: Hawk Jones
Sometimes the motion pictures I choose to watch for this column leave me utterly speechless, and the 1986 action flick “Hawk Jones” is one of them. Not because it’s horribly violent, disturbingly sexual, or outrageously foul, mind you, but because it features a surprisingly competent all-child cast. Directed by Richard Lowry and co-written by his brother Tor, “Hawk Jones” follows the adventures of a pint-sized police detective as he embarks on a mission to take down the mob. Along with his mouthy, strong-willed partner, the kids set out to clean up the streets the only way they know how: by kicking an incredible amount of ass. Valiant Duhart stars as the titular hero, a bespectacled do-gooder who goes out of his way to avoid confrontation, that is, until you say something about his dear old mother. Then all hell breaks loose. The film plays like a Pm Entertainment-style thriller produced...
