The Amityville Curse trailer: Hans Holzer adaptation is now on Tubi
Image
There’s another Amityville movie to watch! And this one actually has some connection to the early days of the franchise. These days it seems like every indie filmmaker in the world has made something with Amityville in the title, but the new film The Amityville Curse is based on the novel of the same title, which was written by Hans Holzer. Holzer was a parapsychologist who invested the supposedly haunted house in Amityville in the ’70s and went on to write the books Murder in Amityville (which served as a source of inspiration for Amityville II: The Possession), The Secret of Amityville, and yes, The Amityville Curse. The new adaptation of Holzer’s work has been released through the Tubi streaming service as a Tubi Original – and you can check out the trailer for it in the embed above.

This is actually the second movie to be called The Amityville Curse.

‘The Amityville Curse’ Trailer – Brand New Amityville Movie from Tubi Adapts Hans Holzer’s 1981 Novel
Image
A new film adaptation of Hans Holzer’s The Amityville Curse, which was published in 1981, brand new Tubi Original horror movie The Amityville Curse is now streaming.

Hans Holzer’s book, it’s interesting to note, ended up serving as the basis for official franchise movie The Amityville Curse, which was released back in 1990.

Tubi previews, “The new adaptation of Hans Holzer’s novel is a modern take on the ever popular franchise with a fictionalized story that remains true to the novel.”

Further ensuring an authentic approach, Incendo secured the underlying rights to Hans Holzer’s titular original novel from the estate.

In The Amityville Curse, “A group of friends purchase an infamous home with the intention of flipping it, only to discover a deadly paranormal presence bent on destruction.”

The film was adapted by Dennis Heaton (“Motive”) and directed by Éric Tessier (“You Will Remember Me”), with Graham Ludlow...

TIFF: Tubi Nabs ‘Amityville Curse’ Novel Adaptation, ‘Marry F*** Kill’ Genre Pics
Image
Click here to read the full article.

Fox’s Tubi is adding to its horror library after picking up two Canadian genre pics — Dennis Heaton’s adaptation of Hans Holzer’s The Amityville Curse novel and Marry F*** Kill from writers Ian Carpenter and Aaron Martin — at the Toronto Film Festival.

Indie production banner Incendo will shoot both productions later this year for Tubi in the U.S. market where it faces stepped-up competition in the free, ad-supported online space against Paramount’s Pluto TV, Amazon’s Freevee and the Roku Channel.

The latest genre pic deals for the Fox-owned streaming platform were unveiled on Tuesday at TIFF as part of its informal film market. Marry F*** Kill sees five estranged college friends reunite for their friend’s funeral after her suicide, only to see an innocent game of “Marry, Fuck, Kill” turn into something far more sinister.

With her unsuspecting husband, a Garda detective, hunting for the murderer, Shelly has to contend with the pressures of a tightening noose as well as continuing to care for an ailing son, her unfaithful husband...

The best in show just got even better.

“The American Rescue Dog Show” has added Paula Abdul, Leslie Jordan and Yvette Nicole Brown as celebrity “ex-paw-t” judges, ABC announced Thursday.

The show features rescued pups from around the country as they “strut their fluff” and compete for a series of titles, including best in underbite, best in snoring, best in belly rubs and more. For each winning dog in the seven categories, a 10,000 donation will be made by Petco Love to a local animal welfare organization. Each category winner will compete for the title of best in rescue, which will culminate in a 100,000 donation.

“During these challenging times, animals have never had such an important impact on our wellbeing,” said “American Rescue Dog Show” creator and EP Michael Levitt. “Now more than ever, it’s time to give rescue dogs their moment in the spotlight. The cuteness overload on this...

Written by Annelies Kavan, the romantic comedy follows Tilly Monterey (Tammin Sursok), a compliance and outreach manager at the Animal Discovery Institute in San Diego, who realises her dream to work in the field after hearing the Crystal Bay Penguin Sanctuary is threatened with closure and its colony of Little Blue Penguins is scheduled to be relocated 2,500km away.

'O.C.'s' Kelly Rowan to star in mystery telefilms
Kelly Rowan
More Mipcom news

Toronto -- Kelly Rowan ("The O.C.") is to star in a series of TV mystery movies from indie co-producers Breakthrough Entertainment, Salient Point Prods. and Colossal Entertainment.

The "Rebecca Kane" wheel of mystery telefilms, created and written by Los Angeles-based Donald Martin, will feature Rowan as a secretary/sleuth to the chief of police in a sleepy fishing town.

The deal was unveiled at Mipcom by Marina Cordoni, executive producer of movies at Breakthrough.

Colossal Entertainment’s Graham Ludlow is producing the TV mystery movies, now in development.

Salient Point and Colossal Entertainment in 2007 collaborated on an earlier Kelly Rowan-starring TV movie, “In God’s Country,” this time with third partner Shaftesbury Films and for Canadian broadcaster CTV.

Other Canadian deals unveiled at Mipcom include FremantleMedia Enterprises picking up the international distribution and licensing rights to the live-action series "My Babysitter's A Vampire" from indie producer Fresh TV,...

Film review: 'The Call of the Wild'
A well-received world premiere selection at last month's Palm Springs Film Festival, "The Call of the Wild" is a pleasant surprise. Much more faithful to Jack London's 1903 classic than the two Hollywood versions (1935, 1972), Peter Svatek's vigorously mounted adventure deserves to be seen on the big screen, although video and cable are its most likely venues for striking it rich.

A friendly movie for school-age children, although there is plenty of frontier violence and tragedy, the appeal of "Call" is not limited to young boys or families. Joining the likes of "The Secret Garden" and "Black Beauty", "Call of the Wild" takes a chance with old-fashioned storytelling and is heavily narrated by Richard Dreyfuss.

Like "Black Beauty", the period story is episodic and presents a credible scenario that romantically and realistically incorporates a four-legged hero who has a soul and destiny, friends and enemies, and a history that becomes a legend.

Filmed splendidly in Quebec, with many exteriors involving animals and frigid conditions, "Call" is the story of Buck, a Leonberger (a cross between a St. Bernard, Labrador and Great Pyrenees) who is shanghaied one day and put to work on a sled in the wild gold-rush era of Alaska and the Yukon.

Strong but not used to the cruelty of man and fellow animals, Buck learns rapidly that the harsh but fair laws of nature control the destinies of men and dogs. The howling of wolves in the forest and several encounters where Buck must fight and even kill his foes awaken primal instincts, but the stupidity and carelessness of greedy humans almost does Buck in.

Rutger Hauer as John Thornton, Buck's bearish friend in the wilderness, heads the fine cast, which includes Luc Morissette as the French-Canadian courier who first treats Buck with kindness.

Portrayed in the past by Clark Gable and Charlton Heston, Hauer's character is a dreamer and a survivor. When he saves Buck from a group of desperate gold-seekers and sure death, the injured dog learns of the power of love.

Proud of his new friend, loner Thornton wins a big bet in town when Buck pulls a heavily loaded sled. The pair then go in search of a lost gold mine. Buck's ultimate embracing of the wild life is beautifully evoked, but the kill-or-be-killed laws of the north are brutal.

Prague-born director Svatek ("Witchboard: The Possession"), who was raised and still lives in Montreal, and cinematographer Sylvain Brault provide many memorable scenes in the well-realized project.
