In an interview with Digital Spy, Alan Tudyk revealed that he almost turned down starring in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story because of scheduling conflicts. When the director of the film, Gareth Edwards, approached him for the role of K-2So, Tudyk was already working on a series called Con Man. Due to this, the actor had to tell Edwards that he would have to turn the film down if it were to begin filming in June. Making this call certainly wasn’t an easy one, since even being offered the role was surreal for the actor.

According to his interview with Forbes, Adriano Goldman, cinematographer for the upcoming HBO Harry Potter reboot, announced that he’s bringing big changes to the show (reported via Collider). One of the biggest updates is that the TV series will look a lot brighter and more colorful than the Og movies.

Honoring the most popular and fan-obsessed genres, the Critics Choice Association announced all the winners in television and film.

The HBO series The Penguin won all of the categories in which it was nominated, including Best Superhero Series, Limited Series, or Made-For-tv Movie. Actor Collin Farrell won two awards for his portrayal of The Penguin, taking the Best Actor trophy as well as the Best Villain category. Fresh off his first Emmy nomination for The White Lotus, Jason Isaacs is heading to Texas — 1974 Texas, to be exact — for the upcoming hostage thriller Eleven Days. Isaacs will star alongside Taylor Kitsch and Diego Luna in the tense indie drama from Parkland and Concussion director Peter Landesman.

Based on the real-life Carrasco Prison Siege, Eleven Days unfolds during a sweltering Texas summer when ruthless prisoner Federico Carrasco (Luna) seizes control of Huntsville Penitentiary. Isaacs plays Father Joseph O’Brien, a prison priest who steps directly into harm’s way, joining forces with Texas Department of Corrections head Jim Estelle (Kitsch). By offering himself as a hostage, O’Brien hopes to outmaneuver Carrasco and save the lives of the other captives trapped inside. The screenplay, written by Kevin Sheridan with revisions by Landesman, adapts William T. Harper’s nonfiction account Eleven Days in Hell: The 1974 Carrasco Prison Siege at Huntsville, Texas.

Exclusive: Hot on the heels of his first Emmy nomination for The White Lotus, Jason Isaacs has come aboard to star opposite Taylor Kitsch and Diego Luna in Eleven Days, the indie hostage thriller from Parkland and Concussion helmer Peter Landesman.

The film takes place in the sweltering heat of a Texas summer in 1974, watching as ruthless prisoner Federico Carrasco takes control of the Huntsville Penitentiary. The prison’s priest, Father Joseph O’Brien — played by Isaacs — joins forces with Jim Estelle (Kitsch), head of the Texas Department of Corrections, by entering the eye of the storm and offering himself as a hostage to out-game Carrasco and his men, in an attempt to save the lives of the other hostages that have been taken.

Script is by Kevin Sheridan with revisions by Landesman, based on the book Eleven Days In Hell: The 1974 Carrasco Prison Siege at Huntsville, Texas by William T. Harper.

Saturday Night Live has set a return date, announcing the season 51 premiere date. And with it comes speculation on who will host and reports about potential cast changes under Lorne Michaels.

SNL returns to NBC on October 4. It's slightly later than season 50's late September start date, but falls in line with the premiere dates for past seasons. With just over two months until showtime, Lorne Michaels has a few decisions to make regarding the cast.

According to Deadline, Michaels has yet to make any decisions about new cast members. The outlet reports that the first round of applications for new performers came prior to July 4. Sources also tell Deadline that Michaels is focused on hiring "character-driven performers" rather than stand-up comedians.

Comic-Con fans attending the Hall H panel for Prime Video’s Gen V on Friday got a treat when a sneak peek at Season 5 of flagship series The Boys was shown in the room.

Berlin-based sales outfit M-Appeal has picked up international rights to David Pablos’ “On the Road” (“En El Camino”). The film, a bold, tender Mexican road movie, will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival’s Horizons section.

Adria Arjona is set to star in Amazon MGM Studios’ Michael B. Jordan-directed reimagining of “The Thomas Crown Affair” following Taylor Russell’s exit from the project.

Star Wars actor Diego Luna has lined up his next big role. He is set to be one of the leads in Eleven Days, an indie thriller that's set to start shooting in September.

Per Deadline, Luna has boarded the cast of Eleven Days. Directed by Peter Landesman (Concussion), the film also stars Taylor Kitsch. Kevin Sheridan wrote the screenplay with revisions by Landesman, though the movie takes inspiration from William T. Harper's original book, Eleven Days in Hell: The 1974 Carrasco Prison Siege at Huntsville, Texas. Vincent Newman and Vance Howard are producing.

Every year, the Emmys reveal which shows, actors and producers are up for awards, and each year, there are always some worthy candidates who get left behind. This year, there's a lot of stink about Diego Luna not getting a nod in the Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series category for his performance as the title character in Star Wars: Andor, definitely one of the most arresting dramas of 2025. The battle for television’s most prestigious awards just got even fiercer. The Television Academy has announced the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations, which will be held on September 14, 2025, in California.

Leading the pack with an impressive 27 nominations is the Apple TV+ dystopian sci-fi thriller Severance. Close behind are Colin Farrell’s crime drama The Penguin, which has 24 nominations, followed by satirical comedy The Studio and dark comedy The White Lotus, tied at 23 nominations each.

With the 2025 Emmy Awards announcing their nominees this morning, we’ve finally had time to catch our breath and read over the nominees. In the process, we found several snubs that are not only surprising but will age terribly in the years ahead. Check out our list and let us know if any big ones are missing.

2025 Emmy Snubs and Surprises Snub: An Only Murders Lead Bloodbath

The duo of Martin Short and Steve Martin gained new life with the arrival of Selena Gomez. The trio has become one of the great comedic teams in recent memory, allowing Gomez to shine by offering a laconic humor compared to the massive performances from Short and Martin. However, with only Short grabbing a nomination for the 2025 Emmys, we’re a little baffled. It’s possible both could have made the list in a year of six nominees, but unfortunately, we can never know if that is true.

Andor's showrunner, Tony Gilroy, has commented on the show's many Emmy snubs, claiming an ultimate victory in light of this. Andor season 2's ending was a monumental moment in the Star Wars franchise. Not only did it end a stellar season of TV, but it culminated the best Star Wars TV show ever made.

Despite how revered the show is, though, some disappointing news about the central performances from Andor season 2's cast has been brought to light recently.

In an interview with Deadline, Gilroy was asked for his thoughts on Andor cast members like Diego Luna, Stellan Skarsgård, Elizabeth Dulau, Genevieve O'Reilly, and Adria Arjona being snubbed at this year's Emmys. Gilroy stated, “There are a lot of performances that I wish were recognized," before going on to claim the ultimate victory for the show:

The 2025 Emmy Nominations have been revealed and, shockingly, Squid Game is not among them. The K-drama phenomenon debuted on Netflix to massive audience popularity and critical acclaim in 2021, showcasing an incredibly tense story in a disturbingly vibrant world, all serving as a scathing indictment of capitalistic practices.

For its first season, Squid Game was nominated for 14 Primetime Emmy Awards and won six, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Lee Jung-jae as Gi-hun) and Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. Squid Game season 2 was eligible for the 2025 Emmys, and received no nominations.

Per Variety, Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria expressed her own disappointment at Squid Game season 2 being snubbed for the Emmys. "I am disappointed for Director Hwang and the cast," says Bajaria, finding it "surprising" that this "excellence in television and excellence in storytelling" was not "recognized." Twenty-eight actors and reality hosts from diverse backgrounds were recognized by the Television Academy with Emmy nominations on Tuesday, not only an 18% drop from last year’s 34 but a near-low since 2019, when there were 26 non-Caucasian actors and hosts.

At its highest, the most diverse year for actors and reality competition/talk show hosts was 2021 per Deadline stats with a massive 49 nominees.

While there were only two categories last year devoid of nominees from diverse backgrounds, this year there were three.

The 2025 Emmy nominations are out, and while Andor soared with 14 total nods, one name was shockingly missing: Diego Luna. The actor, who delivered a career-defining performance as Cassian Andor, was snubbed for Best Actor in a Drama Series, leaving fans and critics alike scratching their heads.

Luna's performance in Andor season 2 was widely hailed as one of the best in modern Star Wars storytelling. The nominees for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced this morning, and the HBO limited series The Penguin earned a total of 24 Emmy nominations for the 2025 awards. 

While a substantial amount of the 24 come from the technical and craft categories, the major awards the show is up for includes a top-tier nomination for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

The show's cast received major acclaim as well, with Colin Farrell nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor and Cristin Milioti for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Additionally, Deirdre O'Connell was honored with a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress. 

'Severance' and 'The Penguin' received the most Emmy nominations this year...

My biggest takeaway, as I’m picking my way through the nominations for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, is how top-heavy the list is. Twenty-seven nominations for Severance! Twenty-four nominations for The Penguin! Twenty-three nominations apiece for The Studio and The White Lotus!

So many of these juggernauts received nominations so completely across the board — the dominance of White Lotus and Severance in the supporting categories is especially impressive — that I found myself more distracted by the standouts from those casts who didn’t get nominated than those who did. Where’s Rhenzy Feliz for The Penguin? Or Chase Sui Wonders for The Studio? Or Lisa from Blackpink for The White Lotus (or Carrie Coon’s vacation buddies, I suppose)?

It’s a myopia that leads to the consistent impression that...

The 2025 Emmy Awards nominations were announced on Tuesday, July 15, and one might assume the job of Emmy voters is much more difficult now than it was 20 years ago. While there have always been a good number of series being shown, with all the streaming services currently, there are almost too many to choose from.

Some series or actor is going to be snubbed in the awards process. Perhaps some smaller-budget show doesn't get the flowers it deserves. Maybe an overlooked actor performing in a quality PBS Masterpiece program gets forgotten.

It happens every year, and snubs will continue to occur. Not everyone can get nominated, of course, but many series should have been. Popularity isn't the mark of quality, after all. Only quality marks quality.
