The Parent Trap: Days of our Lives, Young and Restless & More…
Image
We are always happy to see flashbacks on soaps, and though we’re unhappy about the reason for them on Days of our Lives — John’s inevitable death — Carrie’s reminiscing with Marlena about how, even though she is Anna and Roman’s biological child, Marlena and John are the ones who actually raised her, reminded us of other times a soap opera kid has ended up with a completely different set of parents.

Days Death’s Door

Roman only met Carrie when she was 4 years old, and her presumed-dead mother, Anna (Leanne Hunley), turned up in Salem. Anna handed the little girl over to Roman and Marlena (Deidre Hall) to raise.

Then Roman “died,” and Carrie ended up primarily in Marlena’s care. Then Marlena met John (Drake Hogysten), who was determined to be Roman. Then Marlena “died,” and Carrie (Christie Clark), along with Sami (Alison Sweeney) and Eric...

Judith Chapman To Direct Larry Parr’s ‘Shunned’ And ‘Sundew’ At The Palm Canyon Theatre
Image
“The Young and the Restless” actress Judith Chapman (Gloria Fisher) is set to direct two productions at the Palm Canyon Theatre in Palm Springs, California this fall.

First up is the stage production of “Shunned,” a play by Larry Parr that provides audiences with a realistic portrait of Amish life and philosophy, and the problems facing the community in today’s world, including growing pressure to adapt to changing technologies and curiosity from tourists about how they live their lives.

Janice Lynde

Howard Wise/Jpi Studios

Janice Lynde takes on the poignant role of Katherine Yoder, as she brings an exceptional presence to the evocative production that lifts the veil on Amish life, highlighting the universal feeling of isolation faced by its characters.

Each performance invites a dialogue about marginalized experiences, challenging societal norms and prompting reflection on the impacts of exclusion.

“Shunned” performance dates are Friday, October 4 at 8:00 p.

To celebrate its 45th anniversary, CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless is bringing back original cast members Jaime Lyn Bauer and Janice Lynde, who starred as Lorie and Leslie Brooks when the show premiered in 1973. Lynde stayed with the series until 1977, while Bauer continued until 1982 with appearances in 1984 and 2002. According to EW.com, Meg Bennett will also reappear as Victor's ex-wife, Julia Newman.

All three actresses are scheduled to appear during the week of March 26. They begin taping their episodes today at the Y&R studio in Los Angeles.

Are you as excited about the returns of the Brooks sisters as I am?...

Flashback: August 1973, 1974, 1975 - What Was Popular In The Soap World
What was popular in the soap world in the mid-1970s? Daytime TV magazine used to do a fan poll each month and soap fans would check the polls as soon as they got their copies to find where their favorites ranked. They also included a Nielsen ratings update which was always interesting to compare to the fan poll. In the Flashback pages below, we take a look at what shows and actors were popular in August 1973, 1974 and 1975. Fyi: It was a different soap each August.

Some of the actors are now indie soap stars (Janice Lynde, Denise Alexander) while some are still popular on daytime soaps (Susan Flannery, Bill and Susan Hayes). Other has passed away. They all were making an impact with fans at the time.

“Diary Of A Single Mom” – Robert Townsend’s Web Series
I had no idea Robert Townsend was knee-deep in the web series game. Then again, I really shouldn’t be surprised. The web is the next frontier! I thought maybe we’d previously mentioned it on this blog, but a search negated that.

It’s called Diary of A Single Mom, and it’s already halfway through its second season. I completely missed the first. It stars Monica Calhoun as Ocean Jackson, a single mother of two striving to keep her family afloat while working to fulfill her own ambitions of finishing her Ged, going to college and opening her own business. Along her journey, she befriends and joins forces with two other single moms, Lupe (Valery Ortiz), a mother juggling different fathers for each of her two children while facing health concerns that will change her life, and Peggy (Janice Lynde), a once married, wealthy 50-something who suddenly finds herself widowed,...
