The 2024 U.S. elections had to be one of the most entertaining elections in the United States history. While I know that many people are taking it very seriously as they should it is also true that at the end of the day, you have to believe that everything will be fine. So, with that sentiment and because of my love for any media about the complex nature of politics we compiled a list of the best political TV shows that you should watch right now.

If Tim Curry's going to do anything, it's chew the scenery with such relish that he'll be picking chunks out of his teeth after. His oeuvre is littered with delectably animated, over the top performances, and justly so for an actor who lives and breathes theatricality. Still, if we're talking about the most Tim Curry performance ever ... it would be Dr. Frank N. Furter in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." But Wadsworth, the wily butler in "Clue," wouldn't be all that far behind.
Jonathan Lynn's cult 1985 mystery-comedy, which he both wrote and directed, remains the gold standard for board game movies. Much as "Knives Out" and the wave of whodunnits spawned by Rian Johnson's hit owe a hefty debt to Agatha Christie, they also share a lot of their zany energy and sensibilities with "Clue." The national tour of ‘Clue: A New Comedy’ remixes the classic murder mystery with farcical physical comedy and impassioned old-fashioned sensibilities.
“It’s all part of the game.”
There’s a strong relationship between mischievous murder mysteries and the horror genre. Murder mysteries inherently hinge upon death – it’s baked into the name – so it’s not surprising that horror has embraced this secretive subgenre and really emphasized the murder in murder mysteries. Murder mysteries have been popular in pop culture for nearly a century. However, there’s been a recent renaissance on this front with playful films like Knives Out, A Haunting in Venice, Bodies Bodies Bodies, the Scream franchise, and the prominence of the true-crime genre and armchair detectives. That being said, an underrated and evergreen source of murder mystery hijinks that’s entertained audiences for 75 years is Hasbro and Parker Brothers’ Clue.

Sony is the latest player that would like to make an accusation. The studio has won the rights to develop a reimagining of the Hasbro board game “Clue,” and the studio intends to bring the murder mystery game to the screen for both film and television.
Hollywood has been trying to remake “Clue,” first adapted in Jonathan Lynn’s cult classic screwball comedy “Clue” from 1985, for years. Most recently, a project was set up at 20th Century Studios, and it had Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman circling to star along with “The Muppets Movie” filmmaker James Bobin directing. In 2022, Oren Uziel (“The Lost City”) stepped up to rewrite the original draft of the script from Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (“Deadpool”), but it too went nowhere.
No cast or creative talent is attached at this stage of development. Sony is the only studio developing anything based on “Clue” at this time,...

The film and TV rights for Clue have landed at Sony, with Hasbro Entertainment closing a deal with TriStar Pictures and Sony Pictures Television to develop adaptations of the classic murder mystery board game.
Clue, the game, has players figure out who is responsible for a murder in a cast of characters that includes Professor Plum, Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White and Miss Scarlet. The location of the murder (dining room, kitchen, ballroom, etc.) and weapon (velvet rope, lamp, knife, etc.) also must be deciphered.
The board game was previously adapted into a 1985 comedy that starred Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn and Christopher Lloyd, among others. While the film performed poorly at the box office and debuted to lukewarm reviews, Clue, which was written and directed by Jonathan Lynn, has since reached cult status. Over the years, other versions were in the works, with Ryan Reynolds at one point attached to star...

Knives Out has become iconic in many different ways. Not only did its cast break the internet, but its approach to the whodunit genre was so unique and intriguing that fans could not help but fawn over its genius. As if Daniel Craig playing the role of Benoit Blanc wasn’t enough, the cast also includes Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Michael Shannon.
Knives Out
The mystery genre has been around for a very long time, which has made it quite difficult to do something new. Everything has already been done and every twist has been turned far too many times. When something becomes this familiar to audiences, many filmmakers and creators draw inspiration from preexisting works to get what they think are the best parts and make something new.

The murder-mystery renaissance really is in full effect right now. The likes of Only Murders In The Building, Poker Face, and Apple TV’s The Afterparty have been making armchair detectives of us all on the telly side of things, but it’s the big screen sleuthing boom that’s had genre fans flocking to the multiplexes with their magnifying glasses and (presumably) deerstalkers most recently. With whodunnits as wildly varied as Park Chan-wook’s sensual Decision To Leave, the superbly silly See How They Run, Rian Johnson_ – which leans hard into the ‘D’ of DC Comics – on offer, it’s not exactly hard to see why, either.
Now, as we prepare to take enough champagne to fill the, erm, canals of Venice with us to see Kenneth Branagh_, we at Empire HQ have put our tan raincoats on and launched an investigation into the very best the genre has to offer.

Jonathan Lynn's Clue (1985) has become a cult classic loved by multiple generations. Yet there has never been a documentary to tell the behind the scenes stories... until now. Solve the mystery of how Clue, based on original "Cluedo" board game, was murdered at the box office but, in a shocking twist, found a fan-base with a passionate appreciation for the movie’s hilarious dialogue and incredible cast. Even though it bombed, the film has gone on to earn its status as a comedy favorite. The doc features interviews...

In the spirit of The Shark Is Still Working (Jaws) and Back In Time (Back to the Future), Who Done It: The Clue Documentary is lensed by filmmaker fans who want to know the entire story of the production.
The doc features interviews with writer/director Jonathan Lynn and cast members Colleen Camp (Yvette), Michael McKean (Mr. Green), Lesley Ann Warren (Miss Scarlet), and Lee Ving (Mr. Boddy), among others.
“Clue is one of the most enjoyable, quotable and rewatchable films of the past 35 years,” director Jeff C. Smith originally stated when the project was announced. “When I couldn’t find the answers to questions I have always wondered (like who came up with Madeline Kahn’s amazing ‘Flames on the side of my face’ speech), I decided to go find out for myself.

The movie Clue features an incredible cast of actors and Madonna was almost among them. Despite this, the Queen of Pop was denied a role in the film. Subsequently, another actor explained why she landed the part instead.
Madonna lost a part in the movie ‘Clue’ to an actor who wore a maid outfit to her audition
Colleen Camp played Yvette, the French maid in Clue. During a 2023 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Camp discussed getting the role. “From what I understand, a number of people wanted the part, like Julianne Moore and Madonna,” she said. “But Jennifer Jason Leigh was the choice, and when she did not do the movie, my manager [whom I shared with Jennifer] suggested me. And I went full out — I dressed up in a maid’s outfit; I created this French accent. I basically got the part in the room.”

There are so many motives, characters, actors, and sets, but we finally figured it out…It was Tim Curry, with exhaustion, on the set of Clue. The actor, who played butler Wadsworth in the classic 1985 comedy (still the best board game adaptation ever), recently sat down to discuss his work on Clue.
Speaking with Empire, Tim Curry remembered the chaos involved in shooting Clue, particularly in the final scenes since his character is tasked with explaining to the guests and audience Who killed Mr. Boddy with What and Where – multiple times, as Clue had various endings. “It was a bit scary, because he never draws breath!” he said of his delivery in Clue. “It was exhausting…Actually, when we finished that sequence, I had to go to the company nurse. My blood pressure was through the roof!” Indeed, it remains a sort of masterclass in delivering revelatory monologues.

Hollywood is always looking for the next big source of entertainment. Right now, it seems that video game adaptations are finally on the verge of legitimacy due to the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and HBO’s The Last of Us. Before that, it was superhero movies. And on and on it goes. However, the industry’s endless search for intellectual property (IP) has for decades led to false starts and brief flirtations with the world of toys and board games. When looking across the chronology of those attempts, a few key flaws stand out as to why the concept has still yet to catch on quite as strongly as comic books or video games.
Adaptations of products are notoriously difficult to get right, because they are not necessarily attached to a narrative that people know. The basic premise of a toy’s brand might be established, but...

It can be hard at times to separate Rupert Grint from his "Harry Potter" roots. Even now, over a decade after the last film in the franchise was released, Grint's name is still synonymous with Ron Weasley, the clumsy boy wizard with a heart of gold. But Grint's acting career definitely has roots outside of Hogwarts. Over the years, he's appeared in various other films including Jeremy Brock's "Driving Lessons," Jonathan Lynn's "Wild Target," and 2009's "Cherrybomb" directed by Lisa Barros D'Sa and Glenn Leyburn.
"Cherrybomb" is a British drama about two teenagers who both fall for the same girl. In increasingly more serious attempts at getting her attention, they eventually find themselves in over their heads and headed for disaster. Grint plays one of the teens, Malachy McKinney, an employee at a local movie theater. In the film, Malachy is the exact opposite of Ron Weasley, eager...

Of the many TV-to-movie adaptations, the diciest propositions have always been the films based on series that were tailored to the personality of their stars. Dan Aykroyd made "Dragnet" work (until its lame action finale) because he was doing a dead-on, deadpan parody of Jack Webb's Sergeant Joe Friday, whereas the great Jim Varney struggled as Jed Clampett in 1993's "The Beverly Hillbillies" because, when it came to playing TV rednecks, he was too defined by his Ernest P. Worrell persona to approximate Buddy Ebsen's interpretation and/or add his own flourishes.
It gets dicier when you're adapting a show named after the actual star. Even if creator James L. Brooks went nutzoid and decided to revive "The Mary Tyler Moore" show starring Sydney Sweeney, there would be an audience of exactly zero for it. Fans of the show would be aghast at the notion of anyone trying...

The first draft for the Ryan Reynolds movie based on the popular whodunnit Hasbro game was by Rheet Reese and Paul Wernick. James Bobin is attached to direct.

Ben Stiller wishes he could sever any memory of auditioning for one 1992 comedy.
The Emmy-nominated “Severance” director revealed during a Q&a panel for the AppleTV+ series that he tried out for “My Cousin Vinny” in a role that went to Ralph Macchio. (It was revealed earlier this year in a Rolling Stone oral history of the film that Stiller was considered for Macchio’s role.)
“I tanked my third callback for ‘My Cousin Vinny’ to play the friend,” Stiller said. “It still bothers me. You go in as an actor and you do your thing and you sometimes feel really good about it and it just doesn’t work.” The conversation was moderated by Kumail Nanjiani.

Bulgaria’s Cash Rebate Backs First Projects
Bulgaria has officially introduced its 25% cash rebate program, and the first three projects to shoot under the scheme have now been set. Each project will be eligible to recoup €1.1M from the rebate. The scheme is operated by the Bulgarian Film Commission Foundation, which was formed in September 2021. “This is a long awaited step in the further development of the film industry in Bulgaria. Social media was set ablaze Thursday afternoon when Rudy Giuliani gave a rambling press conference in which he inexplicably invoked My Cousin Vinny.
While once again claiming the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump — but offering no evidence of any fraud — the president’s personal attorney brought up the beloved 1992 comedy starring Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei.
Director Jonathan Lynn is aware of the random moment.

Monty Python creator, writer and director Terry Jones threw away punchlines to refresh comedy.
Screenwriter, director, and author Terry Jones, a founding member of Monty Python, died at the age of 77, according to Variety. He had been suffering from frontotemporal dementia, which his son Bill revealed publicly in September 2016. The disease left the comedian unable to speak.
"Over the past few days his wife, children, extended family and many close friends have been constantly with Terry as he gently slipped away at his home in North London," Jones' family said in a statement. "We have all lost a kind, funny, warm, creative and truly loving man whose uncompromising individuality, relentless intellect and extraordinary humour has given pleasure to countless millions across six decades."
Terence Graham Parry Jones was born in North Wales on Feb. 1, 1942. He met his long-term collaborator Michael Palin while studying English at Oxford University.

The board game Clue is being set for a new adaptation with Ozark's Jason Bateman directing and Ryan Reynolds starring.
Two corpses, everything's fine. Jason Bateman of Arrested Development is in early talks to direct a live-action Clue remake for Fox/Disney, according to Deadline. Bateman may also star in the film alongside Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool). The project was first announced in early 2018. The new movie is not connected to the 1985 Paramount version directed by Jonathan Lynn.
Bateman, who won a directing Emmy for the Ozark episode “Reparations,” will develop the script with Reynolds. When the project was first announced, the film was based on a screenplay written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers of the first Deadpool movie. Bateman recently began production on Ozark season 3, which will include two episodes he will direct as well as reprise his role as drug cartel financial advisor Marty Byrde.

Jason Bateman is in early negotiations to direct and star in Ryan Reynolds’ feature film based on the board game Clue for Fox and Disney.
Reynolds boarded the project last year as part of a three-year first-look deal he had signed with Fox. Reynolds’ Maximum Effort banner announced at that point that it would develop “Clue” as a possible starring vehicle for the actor with Allspark Pictures, the film division of Hasbro, also producing. The “Deadpool” writing team of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were hired to pen the script.
The game, first developed in 1949, is a contest to determine who of six suspects murdered the game’s victim, where the crime took place and which weapon was used. Each player assumes the role of one of the six suspects, and attempts to deduce who the culprit is. Paramount released a film version of “Clue” as a mystery-comedy in 1985 with...

Jason Bateman, the newly-minted Emmy winner for directing “Ozark,” is in talks to direct the live-action remake of “Clue” based on the Hasbro board game set up at Disney and Fox, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap. Bateman is also in early talks to star in the film alongside Ryan Reynolds.
“Clue” is a comedy and murder mystery inspired by the popular board game from Hasbro, but it’s not connected to the 1985 “Clue” film starring Tim Curry.
The writers on Reynolds’s “Deadpool,” Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, were hired to write the screenplay back in 2018 as the first project as part of a three-year, first-look deal with Twentieth Century Fox. Reynolds’s Maximum Effort is producing the film alongside Hasbro Studios’ film division Allspark Pictures, and Bateman will also work in developing the script.

For Ralph Macchio, things have a way of coming full circle.
In the early '90s he found himself reading for a role in My Cousin Vinny. Director Jonathan Lynn liked him for the part, but the studio didn't, seeing him simply as "that guy from The Karate Kid."
It turns out that among those up for the role of Bill Gambini was Will Smith, still a few years away from becoming the biggest movie star in the world with 1996's Independence Day.

“Life after death is as improbable as sex after marriage!”
Clue plays midnights this weekend (June 22nd and 23rd) at The Tivoli Theater as part of the Reel late at The Tivoli Midnight series.
Way back in 1985, before we were translating literally every board game, video game, or action figure into a movie, there was Clue.
As in the Parker Brothers board game, seven suspects find themselves in a mysterious mansion with the body of someone who has been murdered by one of them. Was it Colonel Mustard (Martin Mull) with the revolver in the conservatory? Or was it Miss Scarlett (Lesley Ann Warren) with the rope in the billiards room?
Could it be both?
Clue was filmed with three possible endings. That’s 321 fewer endings than the board game permits, but two endings more than offered by most movies.
“What are you afraid of, a fate worse than death?...

Ryan Reynolds and his production banner, Maximum Effort, has cemented his relationship with Twentieth Century Fox for another three years. The deal will see Reynolds first movie come in the form of a revamped Clue. Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will pen the script.
Reynolds will take a starring role in the venture which will also see him producing the film.
The 1985 movie, to which this bears no relation, was directed by Jonathan Lynn. It starred the majestic Tim Curry as a butler leading Colonel Mustard, Miss Scarlet, and the other characters from the famous board game on a chase to discover which one of them killed Mr Boddy. The film also starred Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, and Lesley Ann Warren.

Was it Colonel Mustard in the ballroom with a candlestick? Or was it Miss Scarlett in the study with a revolver? 20th Century Fox is looking to head back to the mansion for a macabre mystery in a new Clue movie based on the classic board game.
Deadline reports that Ryan Reynolds' studio Maximum Effort has signed a three-year first-look agreement with 20th Century Fox, and the first project under the new deal is a live-action adaptation of the murder mystery board game Clue, created by Anthony E. Pratt.
In addition producing the new Clue movie, Reynolds could potentially star in the film, although it's yet to be announced if he will officially be involved in front of the camera (or what character he would play).
Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the scribes behind Deadpool, Life, and Zombieland, are expected to pen the screenplay for the new Clue movie.

Don’t let the ugly Italian poster art on the disc box throw you — The Internecine Project is a clever plot-driven murder tale in an espionage vein that gathers a string of B+ stars from the early 1970s for ninety minutes of suspense. It’s not the kind of suspense that makes you wonder what’s going to happen next, but the kind that points to a finish that we know will employ a big surprise, a killer-diller last-minute twist. Or three.

Believe it or not, the classic Hasbro board game Clue was previously the subject of a stage adaptation in the mid 1990s with Clue The Musical, an interactive Off-Broadway production that closed after 29 performances and 17 previews. It was, um...not beloved, with New York Daily News critic Fintan O'Toole quipping in his review: "Making a musical from a board game is the kind of bizarre task that only a genius or a fool would undertake. And there is no sign of genius here." Fintan O'Toole, in print, with a poison pen. So what makes this latest stab/whack/shot at a stage version of Clue different? For one thing, it's based directly on the cult 1985 movie adaptation of the same name that starred Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, and Lesley Ann Warren. For another, it was penned by that film's writer-director Jonathan Lynn. Lastly, it is not a musical,...

It wasn't long ago that we heard 20th Century Fox is rolling the dice on a film remake of Clue, the 1985 cult classic murder mystery comedy based on the beloved board game. But now Variety reports that Jonathan Lynn, the writer/director of the '85 film, has written a stage play adaptation and is bringing it to regional theater next year before the play embarks on a nationwide tour.
This project reportedly came to happen through a partnership between a company called the Araca Group (Wicked) and toy/game company Hasbro, who apparently also have a musical in the works based on another board game, Monopoly. Plans are being made for a United States tour as well as touring in the United Kingdom, but no Broadway run is planned at this point. Plans are being made for a United States tour as well as touring in the United Kingdom, but no Broadway run is planned at this point. They're still so far away from launching that we don't have any casting news yet, but we'll keep...

There's always an exception to a general rule. In the case of "you can't make a great movie out of a board game," the exception is obviously 1985's Clue. Director Jonathan Lynn found a fantastically entertaining way to turn the whodunit murder-mystery guessing game into a movie, and while it didn't become a massive box office hit, good luck finding anyone born in the '80s or early '90s who had cable TV and isn't a big fan. Naturally, as is the case with...

Naturally, as is the case with all things '80s and pop culture, Clue is now being remade. Or, rather, we should say an earlier attempt to remake it has just gotten new life. A second movie based on the boardgame Cluedo is on the way…
The 1985 movie adaptation of the game Cluedo – which went by the its American title of Clue – was one of those films infamous for failing to set the box office alight on its original release, but went on to find a sizeable audience afterwards. That’s not a surprise, either: Jonathan Lynn’s movie remains a real treat, with a cast led by the peerless Tim Curry.
Still, it’s remake time. 20th Century Fox has picked up the rights to make further films based on Cluedo, and it has a new movie on the way. Josh Feldman is producing, and the plan this time is tell the story of a ‘worldwide mystery’, this time with ‘action-adventure elements’. Furthermore, if all goes to plan, then expect an ongoing franchise of films.

If you count “Battleship” among your favorite movies of the last few years and are inordinately excited for the upcoming “Ouija” sequel, prepare for good news. The Tracking Board is reporting that 20th Century Fox is remaking “Clue” along with Hasbro, most likely to the dismay of fans of the 1985 adaptation — a cult classic that, whatever its flaws, was certainly ahead of the board-game-adaptation curve.

Josh Feldman will produce from Hasbro’s end, with Daria Cercek of Fox also onboard; Ryan Jones is serving as executive producer. TB further reports “a desire to move the story out of the parlor and make it a game of ‘worldwide mystery’ with action-adventure elements, potentially setting up a possible franchise that could play well internationally.” Because when you think “Clue,” the phrase that first...
