Dolly Parton Once Wrote A Love Song To Hulk Hogan
Image
It has not been an easy week for members of the Gen X generation who grew up in the 1980s. The entertainment industry suffered three huge losses within days of each other. Actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner drowned on July 20th. He played Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show.

The next loss was metal singer Ozzy Osbourne, who just played his last show earlier this month. Dolly Parton shared a wholesome tribute to the Black Sabbath singer’s last show. The details of his death are still under wraps.

Professional wrestler Hulk Hogan passed away on July 24th. He reportedly went into cardiac arrest and couldn’t be resuscitated. Dolly Parton fans may be surprised to know that there is a connection between the singer and the wrestler. She once wrote a love song for him and married him on TV. Keep reading for more details.

How Cmat Invented Her Own Kind of Country Music — and a Dance Craze
Image
If you assembled a focus group of today’s country artists and asked them to list their biggest influences, a few names would probably rise to the top: Johnny Cash and Hank Williams; Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn. More contemporary icons like Shania Twain and George Strait would come up, and even underappreciated legends like Billie Joe Shaver and Tanya Tucker. But even if you sat this focus group down and locked them in a room for 24 hours, it’s likely not a single one of them would utter the...

Carrie Underwood Reveals Iconic Grand Ole Opry Transformation
Image
To country music artists, performing at the Grand Ole Opry is the ultimate sign of success. The iconic Nashville landmark celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. Carrie Underwood made her debut at the Grand Ole Opry in 2005 after winning American Idol. She’s returned to perform many times since then. But during her latest appearance, she revealed a stunning transformation to the famed stage.

The Grand Ole Opry Turns 100

Fiddle player Uncle Jimmy Thompson was the first performer at the Grand Ole Opry in 1925. The Nashville music venue has seen the most famous country music stars take the stage, from Loretta Lynn to Dolly Parton, and more recently, Lainey Wilson.

Performing in the famed circle is a rite of passage for any musician. A six-foot circle of wood was taken from the show’s old home, the Ryman Auditorium, in 1974 and placed in the center of the stage at the new Grand Ole Opry House.

Emmy Russell Leaves Special Message For ‘Memaw’ Loretta Lynn

Emmy Russell is the granddaughter of country music legend Loretta Lynn. The American Idol contestant shared a heartfelt message for Memaw. Grab some tissues and keep reading to find out the special message.

Emmy Russell’s American Idol Journey

Emmy Russell made headlines last year for her American Idol audition. She revealed to the judges that she’s the granddaughter of country music icon Loretta Lynn. But the young singer was determined to make her own way and not rely on her family name. During her time on the ABC singing competition, she performed several original songs, as well as taking on her grandmother’s famous song “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”

Despite massive support from fans, Emmy Russell only made it to the Top 5 on American Idol. After she was eliminated, she opened up about how grateful she was for the opportunity. Then she went back to her ‘normal’ life as a young mother,...

Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan in American Idol (2002)
Baylee Littrell gets American Idol assist from famous father
Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan in American Idol (2002)
American Idol had quite the premiere, including a contestant with a boy band connection.

The show had a new vibe, with Katy Perry no longer at the judges’ table.

However, her replacement, Carrie Underwood, meshed well with Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

It was like going home again for Carrie, who won American Idol Season 4

The hit ABC singing competition featured some stellar singers who impressed the judges.

One of those contestants was the son of Backstreet Boys member Brian Littrell.

Baylee Littrell leaves American Idol judge in tears

The second Baylee walked out onto the American Idol; there was something familiar about him. Carrie was the first to mention it, prompting Baylee to reveal his famous family connection.

“My dad is Brian Littrell from the Backstreet Boys,” Baylee expressed.

Lionel’s jaw dropped to the floor at the news, while Luke used the moment to poke at Carrie for...

‘American Idol’ Nepo Contestants, From the Son of a Backstreet Boy to a Country Legend’s Grandchild and More
Image
American Idol kicked off Sunday night with its annual promise: to serve as a launching pad for aspiring young musical talent. But some contestants already have a head start with a familiar advantage: the lineage of a famous family.

Season 23 rolled out its first “nepo baby” with Baylee Littrell, son of Backstreet Boys member Brian Littrell, who auditioned in front of judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

“There’s something about you that looks familiar,” Underwood said to the 22-year-old Georgia hopeful.

Idol didn’t hide Baylee’s background, it leaned into it: showing footage of dad Brian introducing him onstage and performing, and a photo of Underwood with Backstreet Boys posters on her wall.

Brian Littrell made the case for his son, saying that being the progeny of a famous singer isn’t exactly a perk. Still, it didn’t hurt his chances either, as he earned...

The 13 Best Music Biopics to Watch After ‘A Complete Unknown’
Image
Let’s face it. Theatre has been the most successful place for stories about popular musicians. Alicia Keys’ “Hell’s Kitchen” is selling big on Broadway, as is “Mj.” “A Beautiful Noise,” about Neil Diamond ‘s professional and personal history, had a nice run there, and is touring the country after its run in Los Angeles. We’ve had “Tina,” “Jersey Boys,” The Temptations’ “Ain’t Too Proud,” Carole King’s “Beautiful” and others. A new musical is being tested now about Frank Sinatra. But the most exciting news arrives this spring, when recent Tony winner Jonathan Groff portrays Bobby Darin.

But movies about musical stars? A mixed bag. (including Kevin Spacey in a bad one about Bobby Darin) Documentaries have been the safest form to chronicle the life of famous musicians: Ones about David Crosby, Joan Baez, Springsteen, and Linda Ronstadt. And, of course, “Woodstock” and Martin Scorsese’s “Last Waltz.

For years, Dolly Parton has been known as a country music icon. Most of her Grammy nominations and awards have been for country albums, collaborations, and songs. ‘A Complete Unknown’ Welcomes Timothée Chalamet to the Oscar Race

You don’t need to be a Bob Dylan aficionado to appreciate Timothée Chalamet’s transformation into the iconic folk singer. Even if your knowledge of Dylan’s career is limited to a few famous tracks or a vague recollection of his controversial shift to electric guitar, Chalamet’s performance in “A Complete Unknown” is undeniably a career best. Here’s why Kate Middleton was invited to Dollywood by Nashville royalty Dolly Parton
Roger Taylor, Brian May, Freddie Mercury, John Deacon, and Queen
What could be better than the Queen of Country music, Dolly Parton, inviting the future Queen of England, Kate Middleton, to visit Dollywood?

Dolly extended an invitation to Kate Middleton, her husband, Prince William, and her children for a special reason pertaining to some good old southern hospitality.

Dolly Parton has long been recognized as the Queen of Country Music, even coming in on top of others like Reba McEntire or Loretta Lynn, according to Country 102.5.

Meeting Kate Middleton is one of Dolly’s goals, and this could happen if she and Prince William accept the invitation to bring their family to visit Dollywood.

Dolly Parton has owned and operated Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, since 1986, with each year better than the one before in terms of improved rides and the overall family atmosphere of the park.

Dolly Parton has always been “fascinated” by the Royal family according to the Express,...

That was apparent on Monday night at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, where A-listers like Eric Church, Jelly Roll, Luke Bryan, Lainey Wilson, and Keith’s fellow Oklahoman Carrie Underwood gathered to perform his songs at a briskly-paced, but expertly-staged tribute concert. Oscars Playback: When ‘Ordinary People’ knocked out ‘Raging Bull’
Image
Welcome back to Oscars Playback, in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng revisit Oscar ceremonies and winners of yesteryear. In our Season 3 premiere, we cover the 53rd Academy Awards in 1981, honoring the films of 1980.

If you were waiting on pins and needles back then to see who would win, you had to wait an extra day. For the first time since 1968, the Oscars were postponed following the attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan. Once the ceremony was underway, which included a video message from the actor-turned-potus taped weeks earlier, it was an extraordinary night for “Ordinary People.” The Robert Redford-helmed drama collected four awards, including Best Picture, but now receives undue hate as the film that beat Martin Scorsese‘s “Raging Bull.”

See Oscars Playback: Revisiting the 2010 ceremony when Kathryn Bigelow made history and Best Picture expanded to 10

It wasn’t a full sweep for “Ordinary People” though.
