Note: Carole Bruce was the first actress to play (and sing) the role of Julie in a Broadway production of the show after it had been played by the legendary Helen Morgan. Ms. Morgan, who died in 1941, virtually owned the role and had played it in the original 1927 production, the first (1932) revival and Universal's hit 1936 movie Show Boat (1936)_. Ms. Bruce withstood favorable comparisons to Helen Morgan. Film remade by MGM as Show Boat (1951).
