Cape Fear Set Photos Reveal First Look At Javier Bardem As Max Cady And Amy Adams As Amanda Bowden
Image
"Granddaddy used to handle snakes in church. Granny drank strychnine. I guess you could say I had a leg up, genetically speaking."

Filming is now underway on the Apple TV+ Cape Fear series at Chevron Station in Atlanta, Georgia, and some set photos (via Just Jared) reveal our first look at Javier Bardem as Max Cady and Amy Adams as Amanda Bowden.

At first glance, this new take on the psychotic murderer/rapist looks quite a bit different to the clean-shaven, heavily tattooed version of the despicable character Robert De Niro played in Martin Scorsese's '90s adaptation, but closer shot reveals that the Dune: Part Two star is sporting a few tats and possibly some piercings.

The 10-episode series has Nick Antosca on board as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. The project also has two filmmaking legends involved, with Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese set to executive produce.

The Hit Apple TV+ Series That Stephen King Called 'Deliriously Nasty'
Image
This article contains a discussion of suicide.

Put that Rolex back where it came from. Spoilers for season 1 of "Friends and Neighbors" lie ahead!

Legendary horror writer Stephen King has many delightful qualities as a public figure, but perhaps his best is that he genuinely enjoys pop culture and consumes it just like the rest of us. On the social media platform Bluesky, King weighed in on a recent Apple TV+ series with a pretty positive verdict: "Deliriously nasty. It's like a John D. MacDonald novel from 1962 with a lot more sex and no good guy. Enjoyable."

The series in question is "Your Friends and Neighbors," which premiered on the streamer in April 2025 and stars "Mad Men" veteran Jon Hamm as Andrew Cooper, a finance guy usually called "Coop" who, in the first episode, gets fired over a fling with a subordinate employee and doesn't know how to keep his expensive life afloat.

Patrick Wilson & Jessica Biel's 9-Year-Old Murder Mystery Movie Moves to Max
Image
The Conjuring and Aquaman star Patrick Wilson's psychological thriller, A kind of Murder, will soon hit Max. The underrated murder mystery movie, which stars The Sinner and Blade: Trinity's Jessica Biel opposite Wilson, debuted in 2016 to less-than-stellar reviews from critics.

Audiences will have another chance to re-experience and re-evaluate A Kind of Murder when it arrives on Max on April 1. Directed by Andy Goddard from a screenplay by Susan Boyd, the film adapts Patricia Highsmith's 1954 novel The Blunderer. Wilson plays Walter Stackhouse, an architect and aspiring writer of short-story crime fiction, fascinated by the recent murder of the spouse of local bookstore owner Marty Kimmel. Biel portrays Walter's wife Clara Stackhouse, who apparently commits suicide not far from the restaurant parking lot where Kimmel's wife was murdered. A police investigation led by Detective Lawrence Corby ensues, as both husbands are suspected of being involved in the deaths of both women.

Danny Trejo Had A Cameo In A Bones Backdoor Pilot That Spawned A Failed Spin-Off
Image
Hart Hanson's procedural series "Bones" was never a runaway hit for Fox, but thanks to its devoted fan base it had a high Nielsen ratings floor, which made it one of the network's most reliable shows over its 12-year run. Viewers dug its out-there plotlines and, of course, the will-they-or-won't-they chemistry between forensic genius Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and FBI Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) -- something that spilled over to the supporting players, who struck up romantic sparks of their own (most notably between Michelle Conlin's Angela Montenegro and T.J. Thyne's Jack Hodgins).

Indeed, "Bones" had a deep bench of supporting characters who were immensely appealing, so it's kind of surprising that Hanson and Fox never managed to generate a spinoff series for one or more of them. Surely, they could've taken a chance on one of the series' squinterns? Okay, there was "Bones: Skeleton Crew...

The Conjuring (2013)
Cape Fear | Patrick Wilson joins Amy Adams, Javier Bardem
The Conjuring (2013)
The star of The Conjuring films looks set to join Amy Adams and Javier Bardem as the leading trio in the new Cape Fear.

When we heard last week that Amy Adams is to move into TV to join Javier Bardem for the upcoming small screen take on Cape Fear, the key question was over who would take on the final role in the leading trio of characters. Adams has joined Javier Bardem in a new take on the story of Max Cady, an ex-prisoner who seeks revenge on the lawyer who put him in prison. In the latest version, the story’s changed a little to make both Sam Bowden and his wife Anna into the legal eagle targets in Cady’s sights.

With Bardem set to play the deranged Cady and Adams playing Anna Bowden, the next question mark lay over who would play her onscreen husband. It...

The Spooky Character That Stephen King Knows Will Outlive Him
Image
Through the 65 books adorned with Stephen King's name and the 200 short stories sprinkled among them, there are good, bad, and truly monstrous characters filling the worlds he's created and cracked open to spill into others. With such a wide variety, everyone has a favorite that has more often than not, jumped from the page and onto the screen to gain a second life. There's one above all, however, that the author feels will outlive them all and be a name that will perhaps even outlive his own, long after he's gone so long as there's fear to feast on.

In an interview with The New York Times, King predicted that Pennywise the Clown, the nefarious child-eating monster from "It" will stand the test of time, even if he doesn't. "When I was growing up, the big paperback writer was John D. MacDonald. When he died, his work pretty much disappeared,...

Cape Fear TV Series Remake: Cast, Scorsese, Spielberg, & Everything We Know
Image
The classic thriller Cape Fear is once again getting remade, but this time it is going to be on the small screen with Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg back on board. Cape Fear is an adaptation of John D. MacDonald's novel The Executioners, and tells the story of a recently-released criminal who exacts his revenge against the lawyer who originally defended him. The story was first adapted into a 1962 film starring Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck but was also remade by Martin Scorsese in 1991.

Noted for its classic suspense and brilliant score, both versions of Cape Fear captured the imaginations of their respective generations and put a spin on MacDonald's original vision. Now, the underrated Scorsese movie is returning, but it is destined to be remade as a TV series that aims to modernize it in a distinctly 21st-century context. Though the project is still in the very early stages of development,...

Cape Fear: Javier Bardem To Play Max Cady In Apple TV+ Series; Steven Spielberg & Martin Scorsese Producing
Image
"Come out, come out, wherever you are!"

We first heard that Cape Fear was being adapted for the small screen last year, and the trades have now announced that Apple TV+ has ordered a 10-episode series with Nick Antosca on board as writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

The project also has two filmmaking legends involved, with Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese set to executive produce.

One of the lead roles has been cast, with Javier Bardem set to play Max Cady.

Bardem has some experience playing remorseless killers after his Academy Award-winning turn as Anton Chigurh in No Country For Old Men. Cady is undoubtedly an even more twisted and vile character, however, so it will be interesting to see what Bardem brings to the role following Robert De Niro's iconic performance.

The show will be based on the John D. MacDonald novel The Executioners, which inspired both the...

Javier Bardem to star in Cape Fear TV remake
Steven Spielberg at an event for The 79th Annual Academy Awards (2007)
Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese’s planned remake of Cape Fear is set to star Javier Bardem, it’s been revealed.

The first ever television collaboration between cinema giants, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg is moving forwards with a mighty casting announcement: Javier Bardem will be taking the lead role in an upcoming small screen remake of Cape Fear.

The report, courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, states that Bardem will take on the role of the unhinged stalker Max Cady, the narrative’s charismatic but psychopathic antagonist. Bardem’s casting sees him join a short but distinguished list of actors who have graced the role: Robert Mitchum played Cady in the 1962 film and Robert De Niro portrayed the character in Scorsese’s pulpy 1991 take.

We’d imagine that Bardem was one of the very first casting suggestions to spring to mind. His take on the equally menacing antagonist Anton Chigurh...

Cape Fear coming soon to television, Apple TV+ orders project with Javier Bardem
Image
Apple TV+ is developing its next high-profile television project with the recently announced Cape Fear, produced by Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. Deadline reports that Academy Award-winning actor Javier Bardem will star in the series as killer Max Cady. He will also executive produce alongside Scorsese and Spielberg.

Cape Fear has been reimagined a few times now, with the story based on John D. Macdonald's 1957 novel The Executioners, which was adapted into the 1962 movie from director J. Lee Thompson. Thompson was heavily inspired by Alfred Hitchcock in the creation of his film, and the Apple TV+ series has been described as a "Hitchcockian thriller."

In 1991, Scorsese made his own version of Cape Fear. Scorcese's movie featured a stacked cast of actors like Scorsese's frequent collaborator, Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange, and Juliette Lewis. In that version, Cady was a convicted rapist seeking vengeance against his public defender,...

Javier Bardem To Lead Cape Fear TV Series From Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese And Nick Antosca
Image
Javier Bardem is a wonderful actor, a man whose filmography is filled with a diverse array of characters whose appearances span the genre spectrum. He is also, it would be fair to say, an actor who's really good at playing villainous psychopaths — be it No Country For Old Men's Anton Chigurh, Skyfall's Silva, Pirates Of The Caribbean's Captain Salazar, or Lyle, Lyle Crocodile's mendacious Hector P. Valenti. And according to Deadline, another unhinged wrong'un is now in Bardem's sights, as he has signed on to play the notorious killer Max Cady in the latest retooling of Cape Fear, which Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and Nick Antosca are currently setting up at Apple TV.

Created by The Act's Nick Antosca and set to be executive produced by Spielberg and Scorsese (as well as Bardem), this latest take on Cape Fear — previously adapted from John D. MacDonald's book...

The new adaptation is a 10-episode series set to debut on Apple TV+. So far, only Bardem is confirmed as a cast member and executive producer. Variety reports that Nick Antosca will be the showrunner and writer. Javier Bardem Joins ‘Cape Fear’ TV Series with Spielberg and Scorsese Producing!
Image
Back in 2023, Apple TV+ officially ordered a series adaptation of ‘Cape Fear.’ The show is set to adapt Universal’s 1991 remake of a 1962 film under the same name, which was in turn based on the 1957 novel ‘The Executioner’ written by John D. MacDonald.

The film is about a convicted rapist who uses his knowledge of the law and its loopholes to seek revenge on a former public defender. He blames the lawyer for his 14-year prison sentence, claiming the lawyer purposely sabotaged his defense during the trial.

The series is being developed by UCP and Amblin. It will be the first TV project that Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg worked on together. They are executive producers along with showrunner Nick Antosca, who has worked on shows like ‘Channel Zero’ and ‘The Act.’ Other executive producers include Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey from Amblin, and Alex Hedlund from Eat the Cat.

Bardem is set to play the villain of the piece, the sinister Max Cady.
