Image
After his heroics in Season 1, The Night Agent’s Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) has a new role in Season 2 — and his work is all the more complicated. “Like anyone in a new job, he’s figuring it out,” executive producer Shawn Ryan said in TV Insider’s digital cover story. “Only in this line of work, one mistake can get you killed.” Before streaming Season 2, which drops on Netflix on Thursday, January 23, you might need a briefing on Season 1. Here’s where went down in The Night Agent’s debut season… The series picks up with cybersecurity entrepreneur Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) escaping two assassins who kill her aunt and uncle, Emma (Simone Kessell) and Henry Campbell (William MacDonald), both of whom are members of the Night Agent spy program. Before their deaths, the Campbells tell Rose a phone number and a codeword that leads her to the undercover operation.

“He’s done it! He’s done it!” shouted Lakers play-by-play announcer Bill Macdonald.

— NBA (@NBA) February 8, 2023

It was a made-for-tv moment as The King moved past fellow Lakers great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with Jabbar in attendance to see the record broken. Once the basket was made, play stopped and James flashed his trademark broad smile as his sons Bryce and Bronny, daughter Zhuri and wife Savannah rushed the court followed by a phalanx of camerapeople .

Then came Kareem and NBA commissioner Adam Silver to present...

Chris Pratt in Early Talks to Star in ‘The Saint’ Movie Reboot
Paramount Pictures is in early negotiations with Chris Pratt to star in a movie reboot of “The Saint,” two decades after Val Kilmer’s thriller and 50 years after Roger Moore’s TV series.

Pratt’s deal is not closed. He became a worldwide star after headlining Disney-Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies and “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018) and its upcoming sequel (2019). He also starred in “Passengers” with Jennifer Lawrence, and long-running NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation.”

The studio secured a deal for book series rights in 2016 and set up a producing deal with Lorenzo di Bonaventura with the goal of starting an action franchise.

“The Saint” is based on Leslie Charteris’ book series, which follow the debonair Simon Templar character first introduced in the 1928 novel “Meet the Tiger,” followed by “Enter the Saint” in 1930. Templar stole from corrupt politicians and warmongers, leaving a calling card of a stick figure with a halo.

Last weekend was pretty sad, but hopefully a few of this weekend’s movies will fare better.

The movie that stands the best chance at finding an audience this weekend is the tech industry thriller The Circle...

Cold Blooded (2012)
FEARnet Movie Review: 'Cold Blooded'
Cold Blooded (2012)
There's always something to be said for a quick and efficient crime thriller that introduces its characters and premise in an efficient manner, and then keeps throwing you bloody curve balls before jolting to a finish in less than 90 minutes. The new Canadian flick Cold Blooded isn't exactly deep, dense, or swollen with subtext, but it does offer a great female lead, a rather novel plot hook, and it keeps you interested in between the action bits. That last part is always important in a low-budget thriller, and it's something that writer/director Jason Lapeyre is aware of. It only takes some simple but strong dialogue, a few interesting characters, and something the audience can root for (or against), and then they're putty in a filmmaker's hands.

It's a simple flick, but Cold Blooded is also a very fun flick. It's about a young cop (Zoie Palmer) who is assigned...

Best of the Fantasia Film Festival 2012
Ricky D, Michael Ryan and Edgar Chaput are quite familiar with the Fantasia Film Festival, having attended the event for years (some of us since the very beginning); so we thought it would be wise to list our favorite films from the 2012 line up. Enjoy!

Edgar Chaput’s Top 3

3-Game of Werewolves (2012, Juan Martinez Moreno)

A review for this film has already has already been published (link here), but the short version is that director Martinez Moreno and his stellar cast deliver one of the most engaging, hysterical, action packed and wonderfully shot werewolf movies in years. Not this Wolf has a film involving these nightmarish hunters been so entertaining. Its greatest flaw is the script, which makes some bizarre decisions as to character motivations, yet any qualms about why certain people are doing what are squashed by the joy out of seeing Moreno’s interpretation of the universe of lycanthropy…...

Fantasia 2012: ‘Cold Blooded’ is one of the year’s best thrillers
Cold Blooded

Directed by Jason Lapeyre

Written by Jason Lapeyre

Canada, 2012

When it comes to leading parts for female actors in cop and action films, the landscape is relatively barren. Even where such parts exist, rare as it is to begin with, all too often the roles are sexed up to the point where the believability factor is wiped out. Indeed, there appears to be no place for women in films where the grit and the grime are prominent, films that get really down and dirty and require the protagonist to go through hell before reaching the finish line. If things are to change, some filmmaker and some actress will have to rise to the challenge and prove audiences that such a film can be made and be credible. Enter director-writer Jason Lapeyre and star Zoie Palmer, who collaborated on Cold Blooded, shot in Toronto (making it one of the...

There Be Blood in The Trailer for Jason Lapeyre’s Cold Blooded
I’ll give him this: Jason Lapeyre sure didn’t skimp on the blood for his intense looking crime flick “Cold Blooded”. I’m not entirely sure how hygienic it is for the film’s lead to be walking around what seems like half the movie with her face caked in blood, though. It certainly makes for a startling visual, I’ll give the film that, especially considering what a pretty lady in Zoie Palmer they have underneath all that blood. If that’s what they were going for, mission accomplished? Anyways, check out the first trailer for “Cold Blooded”, people who enjoy checking out movie trailers on the web. A female police officer has to keep a prisoner from escaping a nearly abandoned hospital unit at the same time his violent partners come looking for him. The film stars Ryan Robbins, Zoie Palmer, Bill MacDonald, Sergio Di Zio, Huse Madhavji,...

Vilmos Zsigmond
UCLA cinematographer in residence chosen
Vilmos Zsigmond
Vilmos Zsigmond has been named Kodak Cinematographer in Residence for the spring quarter at UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television. "McCabe & Mrs. Miller," which he shot, will screen at UCLA's James Bridges Theater on May 11.

"Vilmos Zsigmond overcame seemingly impossible odds to become one of the defining film artists of our times," Professor William McDonald, who inaugurated the program with the support of Kodak in 200, said.

"Leonard Maltin hit the nail on the head when he wrote, 'Recognition for cinematographers in general is long overdue. When it comes to Laszlo Kovacs and Vilmos Zsigmond, it's clear that the American New Wave of the late 1960s and early '70s wouldn't have flowered as it did without them.' "

Zsignmod won an Oscar for "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" in 1978 and has also been nominated for "The Deer Hunter," "The River" and "The Black Dahlia." The American Society of...

Eartha Kitt dies at 81
Eartha Kitt
Eartha Kitt, who used her seductive purr and sultry style to charm audiences as an actress, singer and cabaret star, died Thursday of colon cancer. She was 81.

The cancer was detected about two years ago and treated, but it recurred after a period of remission. Kitt recently had been treated at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York.

"She came back strongly; she had been performing until two months ago," said Andrew Freedman, a longtime friend and publicist. "We had dates booked through 2009."

Among Kitt's hits was the Christmas tune "Santa Baby," lending poignancy to her Christmas Day death. The song went gold this year, and she received the gold record before she died, Freedman said.

Slinky and catlike, Kitt described herself as a "sex kitten": She followed Julie Newmar in the role of Catwoman on the TV series "Batman" during the 1960s.

But the seductress also could be a political provocateur.

An Obit That's Not Fit To Print
Staffers at The New York Times are dismayed the newspaper snubbed the brilliant and funny writer Monique Yazigi by refusing to run her obituary. Yazigi died last week at age 45 of breast cancer.

FoxNews.com columnist Roger Friedman credited her with writing "many memorable pieces," creating buzz for the broadsheet's Style section and "good will for the paper everywhere."

And Friedman posted the "snippy" letter Times obit editor William McDonald sent to Yazigi's friend James Markarian declining to run her obit.

"We have to run every candidate for an obit on a common scale, with complete impartiality, and...
