95-Year-Old ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ Actor Bill Walker Talks Fighting Racism in Hollywood in Unearthed Interview

The SAG-AFTRA Foundation kicked off Black History Month by launching the fourth season of its Legacy Collection, a series of more than 200 never-before-seen career retrospective interviews.

This season focuses on trailblazing Black film and TV actors — beginning with the late Bill Walker, whose career spanned nearly 50 years and more than 100 films and TV shows, including “The Killers,” “The Long Hot Summer” and “Our Man Flint.” Remember Reverend Sykes, who urges Scout a.k.a. Jean Louise to “stand up, your father’s passin’” as Gregory Peck’s Atticus Finch leaves the courtroom near the end of “To Kill a Mockingbird”? That’s Walker in action.

Ron Masak, the familiar character actor who as Cabot Cove Sheriff Mort Metzger was the beneficiary of Jessica Fletcher’s crime-solving prowess on the last eight seasons of Murder, She Wrote, has died. He was 86.

Masak died Thursday of natural causes at a hospital in Thousand Oaks, his granddaughter Kaylie Defilippis told The Hollywood Reporter.

The Chicago native appeared six times on Police Story, five times on Bewitched and four times on Webster and also showed up on everything from The Flying Nun, Get Smart, I Dream of Jeannie, Ironside and The Mary Tyler Moore Show to Magnum, P.I., The Rockford FIles, Columbo, Falcon Crest and Cold Case during his six-decade career.

Archie Bunker Show Star MacLachlan Dead At 77
Janet MacLachlan in The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970)
U.S. TV star Janet MacLachlan has died at her home in Silver Lake, California. She was 77.

The actress had key supporting roles in TV series like The Archie Bunker Show, I Spy and Cagney and Lacey.

She died on 11 October after suffering a "cardiovascular incident".

MacLachlan also had film roles in Sounder, tick… tick… tick and The Man.

But she'll be best known for her longtime portrayal of housekeeper Polly Swanson on The Archie Bunker Show.
