Canadian Actor Jackie Torrens To Make Narrative Directorial Debut With Indie Flick ‘Baby’
Image
Exclusive: Veteran Canadian actor and writer Jackie Torrens has begun production in Nova Scotia on her narrative directorial debut, Baby.

The film’s official synopsis reads: Following the untimely death of her parents, Baby Bagnell struggles to find her place in the world–that is, aside from the local roller rink, hell on wheels.

Baby is a frequent visitor to a quiet bucolic graveyard where her parents rest, while unrequitedly hungry for love and guidance. Finding herself in a potentially disastrous relationship with an older man, the teenage Baby dreams of finding her way out of her circumstances by any means necessary. After all, living with a drunk step-mom, being bullied at school, and failing all her classes isn’t what it’s cracked up to be.

Baby is produced with the participation of Telefilm Canada, with the assistance of the Government of Nova Scotia Film Incentive Fund, the Screen Nova Scotia Content Creator Fund,...

'Nobody 2' Footage Has Bob Odenkirk Paying Tribute to Jackie Chan at Collider's Exclusive Sdcc Panel
Image
Bob Odenkirk is only a few short weeks away from finally stepping back into the ass-kicking shoes of Hutch Mansell for Nobody 2. Before he sets off for his violent vacation in theaters, however, he swung by San Diego Comic-Con for a conversation with Steve Weintraub at Collider's Inside Hollywood panel. While the Better Call Saul star was there delivering some behind-the-scenes stories from his impressive career, we were also able to debut a convention-exclusive sneak peek at the carnage his workaholic assassin will be caught in during his attempts to have a normal family outing. Collider's Samantha Coley was in attendance, describing an action-packed and hilarious homage to the movies of Jackie Chan that's filled to the brim with fun gags.

In the lengthy sequence, Hutch sends his family off on a duck boat ride before a few suspicious individuals arrive with bad intentions. With a clearly fake story about a tummy ache,...

Image
Bob Odenkirk is likely to need a vacation after his vacation, as seen in the first trailer for the action sequel film Nobody 2.

Henry Winkler and Lena Headey Join Bob Odenkirk in Action Movie ‘Normal’ (Exclusive)
Image
Henry Winkler and Lena Headey have joined Bob Odenkirk in the upcoming action movie “Normal,” from the producing team behind the 2021 hit “Nobody.”

In “Normal,” Odenkirk plays Ulysses, who is appointed substitute sheriff in the tiny Minnesota town of Normal, populated by friendly Midwesterners. When the local bank is sacked, Ulysses “unknowingly uncovers something far more explosive than a simple bank robbery,” per the logline.

Winkler, star of “Happy Days” and “Barry,” will play the mayor of Normal, while “Game of Thrones” and “300” favorite Headey is the local bartender, Moira.

“Normal” is directed by Ben Wheatley from a screenplay written by “John Wick” creator Derek Kolstad, who shares a story credit with Odenkirk. Producers are Marc Provissiero (“Nobody,” “No Hard Feelings”), Odenkirk and Kolstad, who all recently wrapped “Nobody 2.”

Principal photography on “Normal” began Oct. 21 and will continue in Winnipeg, Canada, through December. Rounding out the cast are Ryan Allen,...

Netflix's The Silence Ending Explained
Image
The Silence movie features a family using silence to survive Vesps, similar to A Quiet Place. The Hushed cult in The Silence represents adaptation to new predators in a post-apocalyptic world. The Vesps in The Silence use sound to hunt, reproduce quickly, and cause widespread devastation.

The Netflix The Silence movie follows a family trying to survive an apocalyptic outbreak of monsters. Called "Vesps," these flying creatures hunt by sound, so the only way to survive is to stay absolutely silent. This tactic is easier for the Andrews family, who all learned sign language after Ally (Kiernan Shipka) lost her hearing in an accident. However, not everyone survives until the movie's ending. It sounds familiar because A Quiet Place also features monsters that hunt by sound, a deaf daughter, and a family that knows sign language.

However, The Silence predates A Quiet Place, adapted from Tim Lebbon's 2015 novel. John R. Leonetti directed the film,...

‘Nobody’ Review
Image
Stars: Bob Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen, Alexey Serebryakov, Christopher Lloyd, RZA, Michael Ironside, Colin Salmon, Billy MacLellan, Gage Munroe | Written by Derek Kolstad | Directed by Ilya Naishuller

Mild-mannered Bob Odenkirk goes all John Wick in this gleefully violent action thriller that has a few surprises up its sleeve. How violent is it? Well, director Ilya Naishuller’s previous feature was first person shoot-’em-up Hardcore Henry and it’s from both the writer (Derek Kolstad) and producer (David Leitch) of, yep, John Wick. In other words, it’s pretty goddamn violent.

Nobody opens with a teaser of what’s to come, as a blood-spattered Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk) sits across a table being questioned. “Who are you?”, comes the question, and the title card provides the answer. The rest of the film unfolds in flashback, opening with a terrific loser’s montage, establishing exactly what the week-to-week life of suburban dad...

Nobody Review: Hollywood Has a New Action King and It's Bob Odenkirk
Image
Hollywood has a new action king, and drumroll please, it's Bob Odenkirk. Nobody puts the venerated comedian, writer, and award-winning actor in pure ass-kicking mode. Russian director Ilya Naishuller unleashes a taut, darkly humorous, and bone-crushing spectacle of violence. A seemingly innocuous and mild-mannered patsy turns out to be the ultimate wolf in sheep's clothing. Odenkirk's casting was a truly inspired choice. Nobody is an action bonanza that will delight audiences.

Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk) is the definition of a boring family man. He's the guy that's always overlooked and disrespected. His daily routine is a snooze festival of banality. Hutch makes breakfast for his kids, gets berated by his wife's (Connie Nielsen) father (Michael Ironside) and brother (Billy MacLellan) at work, and then comes home to a sexless marriage. Vanilla pudding has more going on in life.

Everything changes after a terrifying incident at the family home. Hutch's teenage...

‘The Silence’ Review (Netflix Original)
Stars: Stanley Tucci, Kiernan Shipka, Miranda Otto, Kate Trotter, John Corbett, Kyle Breitkopf, Dempsey Bryk, Billy MacLellan, Gregory Waters | Written by Carey Van Dyke, Shane Van Dyke | Directed by John R. Leonetti

The Silence – directed by John R. Leonetti – is the latest Netflix horror released with zero prior knowledge and fanfare for its consumers.

The film stars Stanley Tucci, Kiernan Shipka and Miranda Otto to name a few, as a family fighting a monstrous newly emerged enemy and to add insult to injury mysterious religious cult. If you’ve seen Bird Box or A Quiet Place you’ve already had the pleasure – or displeasure depending on your disposition – of seeing this underwhelming semi-horror protocol. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka impresses in a film that has little bite or intrigue, with very little emotional engagement or even horror elements for that matter.

The Silence is sadly just profoundly underwhelming...

‘The Silence’ Trailer: Flying Monsters Are Hunting Kiernan Shipka and Stanley Tucci by Sound — Watch
Stanley Tucci and Kiernan Shipka in The Silence (2019)
“The Silence” is capitalizing on the latest trend for post-apocalyptic stories with creatures that prey on humans by curtailing basic functions. First there was “A Quiet Place,” in which John Krasinski and Emily Blunt had to evade blind extraterrestrial creatures with an acute sense of hearing. Then came the Netflix movie “Bird Box,” where Sandra Bullock had to blindfold herself so that she could avoid looking at creatures with the ability to drive a person to suicide.

Now, Netflix is combining all of these elements and throwing in some of its go-to stars for an extra synergistic push. In the movie, flying critters who kind of look like bats have destroyed the world by going after humans if they make any sound. That’s a familiar premise! The film also pulls from its Netflix stable of stars, including “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” actors Kiernan Shipka and Miranda Otto and “To...

"I've known you for years, Maud, and I'm still trying to figure out what makes you tick." Sony Classics has finally revealed an official Us trailer for the indie biopic Maudie, telling the story of famed Nova Scotia folk painter Maud "Maudie" Lewis. Talented actress Sally Hawkins plays the role of Maudie, a spunky woman with severe arthritis who takes up housekeeper work for a reclusive man. It's there she begins to hone her painting skills, despite barely being able to move her hands, becoming beloved in the community for her positivity and innate talent. The film also tells a love story between Maudie and Everett Lewis, played by Ethan Hawke, a man who is not that easy to love.
