The parents of terminally ill British baby Charlie Gard announced their decision to end their legal fight over treatment of their 11-month-old son on Monday.
A lawyer representing Chris Gard and Connie Yates told the High Court that “time had run out” for Charlie after a U.S. doctor said it was too late to give him nucleoside therapy. The parents were given the test results from Charlie’s most recent scans on Friday.

Mary MacLeod, who has died aged 78, was a prolific character actor whose face was more familiar than her name. She left her most lasting impression in two of the establishment-baiting films of the director Lindsay Anderson.
First, she secured herself a place in screen history when she played the housemaster’s wife Mrs Kemp in the private school satire If …. (1968), starring Malcolm McDowell, in which she walked naked down a corridor and into the boys’ dormitory. It was only the second time that the British Board of Film Censors, as it was then named, had passed full-frontal female nudity (the first was in Blow-Up in 1966). The BBFC did a trade-off, agreeing to allow this in exchange for the deletion of male full-frontal nudity from a shower scene.

Bill Nighy, one of Britain’s best loved character actors, is to star in Hurricane Films’ Triple Word Score, a new feature scripted by Frank Cottrell Boyce (Hilary and Jackie, 24 Hour Party People).
The film is in the growing slate of features to be executive produced by Gibson & MacLeod - the outfit behind Hurricane Films’ Emily Dickinson biopic, A Quiet Passion.
Triple Word Score will mark the directorial debut of Carl Hunter who has collaborated extensively with Cottrell Boyce on various other ventures including an award winning children’s book and an online narrative project.
The supernatural comedy-drama follows the story of a father (Nighy) searching for his missing son, with whom he shared a passion for the board game Scrabble. The film is a journey of mystery, self-discovery and hope.
Shooting will take place this summer in the UK - in Liverpool and West Lancashire.

If….(1968) directed by Lindsay Anderson and winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 1969 premiered one year following the May ’68 protests in France. The screenplay was written by David Sherwin who based the narrative off his experiences at Tonbridge School in Kent. The script made its way to Nicholas Ray who was interested in making the film but felt that a British director should direct it. Anderson was approached and accepted the project. He wanted to make a film similar to Jean Vigo’s Zéro de conduite (1934) and even screened the film to his screenwriters in the pre-production stage. If… was given an X-rating upon release for nudity and violence. Aside from the more graphic scenes the censor board was probably put off by the ideological message of the film.
Like Vigo’s film, If…. is about authority figures...
